Please watch: "LET'S GIVE VINEGAR RUST REMOVAL A REAL TEST ~ 100 YR OLD 2 INCH BARN AUGER " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odi7uXWJ0Xg --~-- A quick, simple, and inexpensive method for sharpening a file. Subscribe for more videos: https://www.youtube.com/user/OldSneelock?feature=mhee Since publishing the video I've received a few offline questions and will attempt to answer them here. My method is to use sulfuric acid. I'm comfortable with it in the intended use and if you follow the recommendations in the video it is safe to use. Sulfuric acid based drain cleaners can be purchased at Menard's, Home Depot, and probably your local hardware store under a variety of names. The type I use is called Rooto. Please see the link below. I pick it up at the local Meijer's store. https://picasaweb.google.com/115986798754245019244/ChemicallySharpeningFiles?authkey=Gv1sRgCOjSpdD2suXSHQ The 10% solution that I use can be used to sharpen multiple files and stored in a sealed container between uses. In my case I only find the need for it once a year or less and not wanting to deal with storage I simply pour the solution down the drain where it is intended to be used. DIY Tips & Short Cuts ~ Replacing My Pitchfork Handle

Please watch: "LET'S GIVE VINEGAR RUST REMOVAL A REAL TEST ~ 100 YR OLD 2 INCH BARN AUGER " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odi7uXWJ0Xg --~-- Fall means leaves falling. My house is surrounded by trees. Maple, Mulberry, Cherry, Catalpa and they all drop a ton of leaves. My township has made burning leaves impractical with restrictions and huge fines for violating them. That means I get about 4 truckloads of leaves each year. The best way to load them into the truck is with a pitchfork. I broke the handle on mine. Now that you’ve had a chance to visit and look around the place why not comment on what you see. Sharpening a One Man Crosscut - Pt 1 - What is a One Man Crosscut Saw? by Old Sneelock's Workshop

Please watch: "LET'S GIVE VINEGAR RUST REMOVAL A REAL TEST ~ 100 YR OLD 2 INCH BARN AUGER " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odi7uXWJ0Xg --~-- There are many types of saws. One Man Crosscut Saws are unique in that they are designed to be an intermediate saw between wooden frame buck saws and two man crosscuts. Not to be confused with a carpenter’s crosscut saw the one man crosscut is bigger, thicker, has a different tooth design, and cuts on both the push and pull stroke. The unique function requires some special handling. In this series of videos I will demonstrate how I sharpen a Champion Tooth Pattern One Man (Person) Crosscut Saw. Tinkers Work - Soldering On A Patch - a video tutorial by Old Sneelock's Workshop

Please watch: "LET'S GIVE VINEGAR RUST REMOVAL A REAL TEST ~ 100 YR OLD 2 INCH BARN AUGER " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odi7uXWJ0Xg --~-- As I work through my pile of projects I come across items that need more repairs just to begin their useful life. One of those items is a military surplus five gallon container called a Jerry Can. The purpose of the container was to be a gasoline storage can. The design of the can is robust. with a thick skin and strong fittings it was meant survive multiple insults to its integrity. Unfortunately this can had been left open to the elements and developed rust on the bottom. When I set about painting the can red in preparation for use as a gas can I found the hole. Nothing for it but to attempt a repair. I considered JB Weld as a solution but it is brittle and with the expected rough handling this container of explosive fuel was expected to see over during future use I didn't want there to be any leaks. I settled on soft solder. It is strong, ductile, and easily applied. Any fuel tank that has contained gasoline is a potential bomb. The fumes from traces trapped in seams and even pores in the metal itself are enough to ignite with extreme force. This tank had been used to hold water. That was the cause of the rust. So now that you know the history of why I set about fixing the jerry can you can watch how I set about doing it. For more information you can go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerrycan for a description of this utilitarian design. Sharpening A One Man Crosscut - Pt 3 - Jointing & Setting Raker Depth - by Old Sneelock's Workshop

Without jointing the blade becomes unbalanced and very hard to push or pull through the kerf. Setting the raker depth performs a similar function. The rakers have to be set to work with the crosscut teeth. Once they are teamed up the saw is ready. Making A Case For Bee's Wax - A Video Tutorial from Old Sneelock's Workshop

Please watch: "LET'S GIVE VINEGAR RUST REMOVAL A REAL TEST ~ 100 YR OLD 2 INCH BARN AUGER " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odi7uXWJ0Xg --~-- Bee's wax has long been a staple in the woodworkers tool box. It is used to lubricate wood screws for easier installation, rubbed on drawer rails to make them slide easier and my favorite, rubbed on hand saws to help them cut better. The only problem is the chunk of was in the tool box is soft and slightly sticky. It soon becomes dirty and some the original purpose is lost due to the embedded trash. I read an article somewhere about putting wax in a tube to keep it clean and easier to use. I took it one further and put it in an applicator tube that I use nearly every day. After saving a few empty deodorant stick holders I made this video of how you can make your own.

Description of the challenge and rules here: http://www.womadeod.co.uk/p/blog-page_3.html Launch video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVqnXJ6lXMQ I wanted to enter. While casting about for a possible quick tool to make that would have value and be useful for me and anyone else who might be interested I settled on a sharpening station. Why that? Everyone has one and they all are different. I wanted to show the cheapest, easiest, best working way to build a tool to make tools. A quick trip to the store room, then some time spent playing in the water, and Bobs your uncle. Now that you’ve had a chance to visit and look around the place why not comment on what you see. Please watch: "LET'S GIVE VINEGAR RUST REMOVAL A REAL TEST ~ 100 YR OLD 2 INCH BARN AUGER " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odi7uXWJ0Xg --~-- In response to a question of why an auger would only cut 1/4" deep before stripping out the pilot thread. Subscribe for more videos: https://www.youtube.com/user/OldSneelock?feature=mhee I've taken an auger that was in extremely rough shape and brought it back to usable. Make boring an 1 1/4" hole quick and simple. No cord, no batteries, faster than setting up with power tools, and can work underwater. Well okay you might not want to but it will work!

Please watch: "LET'S GIVE VINEGAR RUST REMOVAL A REAL TEST ~ 100 YR OLD 2 INCH BARN AUGER " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odi7uXWJ0Xg --~-- Have you ever watched someone with a brace and bit trying to bore a hole? Were they pushing down on the button? A sharp pilot screw on an auger bit will pull the bit into the wood so well the button is only needed to stabilize the cranking motion during the beginning of the hole. PORCH ROOF ~ PT 1 ~ CUTTING CORRUGATED TRANSLUCENT FIBERGLASS PANELS

07:21
Please watch: "LET'S GIVE VINEGAR RUST REMOVAL A REAL TEST ~ 100 YR OLD 2 INCH BARN AUGER " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odi7uXWJ0Xg --~-- Another job is done but the work continues. The back porch was roofed with translucent corrugated fiberglass panels. The panels have become etched from the weather and sunlight. Ultraviolet light causes the resin to break down. The surface becomes roughened and porous. That gives lichen a place to attach and begin growing. The result was the roof was no longer translucent. It also was no longer water resistant. Drips were constant and annoying in the extreme. To replace the damaged panels I had to remove the old ones and make new panels. Sharpening a one man crosscut saw Pt 4 shop made depth gage

Please watch: "LET'S GIVE VINEGAR RUST REMOVAL A REAL TEST ~ 100 YR OLD 2 INCH BARN AUGER " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odi7uXWJ0Xg --~-- One Man Crosscut Saw There are many types of saws. You can find a great written explanation of sharpening both one and two man cross cut saws here. www.fs.fed.us%2Feng%2Fpubs%2Fpdfpubs%2Fpdf77712508%2Fpdf77712508dpi72.pdf A good overview of the use of manual tools in clearing and maintaining trails is available at: http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/environment/recreational_trails/publications/fs_publications/04232822/page26.cfm
Restoring A Two Man Saw ~ Pt 9 ~ Hunting For The Etch ~ By Old Sneelock's Workshop

Please watch: "LET'S GIVE VINEGAR RUST REMOVAL A REAL TEST ~ 100 YR OLD 2 INCH BARN AUGER " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odi7uXWJ0Xg --~-- The best and clearest way to know who made your saw and when is to read the information etched into the side of the blade. If the saw is rusty it might take a bit of work to find the etch. It might be totally rusted away. Either way it doesn’t take much time to decide if there is an etch. Look in the center of the blade. On a two man crosscut there isn’t a defined side to look for so look first on one side and then if you don’t find it there it might be on the other. BLACK & DECKER #7980 DRILL SHARPENER ~ PART 1 ~ TESTING

Please watch: "LET'S GIVE VINEGAR RUST REMOVAL A REAL TEST ~ 100 YR OLD 2 INCH BARN AUGER " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odi7uXWJ0Xg --~-- There are as many gadgets as there are inventors with an idea. Some good. Some not so much. When I was an apprentice machinist, I was taught to sharpen twist drill bits on a bench grinder. Some of the apprentices had a real problem getting it right. Most hobbyists have the same problem. Drill bit sharpeners were invented to solve the problem of being able to hold the bit in your hand at the right angle and move a tiny bit of steel against a stone turning at 3000 rpm while dodging sparks and without grinding your fingers. Not so easy. Drill bit sharpeners should be designed to hold the bit at the right angle and keep the wheel covered so there aren’t any sparks and the operators fingers are safe. When I found this B&D Drill Bit Sharpener I thought it would be interesting to see just how it works and why so many people have problems sharpening twist drills. 😊 Now that you’ve had a chance to visit and look around the place why not comment on what you see. The tote has been cleaned and given a good coating of BLO and wax. The saw is assembled. All that remains is testing the cut. Then the saw is off to Burgess Antiques where it will be on display for the next 30 days or until sold. Having the display be the same dreary items for more than 30 days means people stop looking because there is nothing new. I don’t intend to fall into that trap. I have enough stock to change everything every thirty days for the next year without repeating. Hopefully I will soon run out of inventory because the point of the exercise is to create room for more projects not become a retail tycoon. 😊 I already have enough work thank you. 😊 Now that you’ve had a chance to visit and look around the place why not comment on what you see.
