Dolly the cloned sheep at The National Museum of Scotland

01:55
Dolly the cloned sheep at The National Museum of Scotland visited by Theresa Irene Wolowski and Ryan Janek Wolowski, Dolly (5 July 1996 -- 14 February 2003) was a female domestic sheep, and the first mammal to be cloned from an adult somatic cell, using the process of nuclear transfer. Dolly was cloned by Ian Wilmut, Keith Campbell and colleagues at the Roslin Institute and the biotechnology company PPL Therapeutics near Edinburgh in Scotland. The funding for Dolly's cloning was provided by PPL Therapeutics and the Ministry of Agriculture. Dolly was born on 5 July 1996 and she lived until the age of six, at which point she died from a progressive lung disease. She has been called "the world's most famous sheep" by sources including BBC News and Scientific American. The cell used as the donor for the cloning of Dolly was taken from a mammary gland, and the production of a healthy clone therefore proved that a cell taken from a specific part of the body could recreate a whole individual. On Dolly's name, Wilmut stated "Dolly is derived from a mammary gland cell and we couldn't think of a more impressive pair of glands than Dolly Parton's". Dolly lived for her entire life at the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh. There she was bred with a Welsh Mountain ram and produced six lambs in total. Good morning from Loch Lomond in Scotland

03:08
Loch Lomond in Scotland, is part of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Lake Lomond is a freshwater loch lying on the Highland Boundary Fault, often considered the boundary between the lowlands of Central Scotland and the Highlands. It is the largest loch in Great Britain. The loch contains many islands, including Inchmurrin, the largest fresh-water island in the British Isles, although the loch itself is smaller than many Irish loughs. Loch Lomond is a popular leisure destination and is featured in song "The Bonnie Banks o' Loch Lomond" a well-known traditional Scottish song first published in 1841 in Vocal Melodies of Scotland. The Bonnie Banks o' Loch Lomond is often the final piece of music played during an evening of revelry (a disco or dinner, etc.) in Scotland, a phenomenon not seen in other parts of the United Kingdom, similar to "Dancing Queen" or "Last Dance" by Donna Summer in the USA. Ryan Seacrest hosting the Times Square New Years Eve 2013 Ball Drop in NYC

00:54
Ryan Seacrest hosts "New Year's Rockin' Eve with Dick Clark" Times Square New Years Eve 2012 - 2013 Ball Drop in New York City USA Times Square, New York City, New Years Eve Ball Drop, 2012 - 2013 The Times Square Ball is a time ball located atop the One Times Square building in New York City, primarily utilized as part of New Year's Eve celebrations held in Times Square. Yearly at 11:59 p.m. EST on December 31, the ball is lowered 77 feet (23 m) down a specially designed flagpole, resting on the midnight to signal the start of the new year. The first ball drop in Times Square took place on December 31, 1907, and has been held annually since (except in 1942 and 1943 in observance of wartime blackouts). The ball's design has also been updated over the years to reflect new advances in technologies—its original design utilized 100 incandescent light bulbs, iron, and wood in its construction, while its current incarnation features a computerized LED lighting system and an outer surface consisting of triangle-shaped crystal panels. As of 2009, the ball is also displayed atop One Times Square year-round and is removed only for general maintenance. The Times Square ball drop is one of the best-known New Year's celebrations internationally, attended by at least one million spectators yearly, with an estimated global audience of at least 1 billion. The prevalence of the Times Square ball drop has also inspired other similar "drops" held locally in other cities and towns around the world. Puerto Rico port of Old San Juan

03:42
Puerto Rico (Spanish for "rich port") is officially named the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, which is an unincorporated territory of the United States, located in the northeastern Caribbean. Puerto Ricans became U.S. citizens in 1917, and the United States Congress legislates many aspects of Puerto Rican life. However, the islanders may not vote in U.S. presidential elections.Since 1947, Puerto Ricans have been able to elect their own governor. The official languages of Puerto Rico are Spanish and English, with Spanish being the primary language. The island's current political status, including the possibility of statehood or independence, is widely debated in Puerto Rico. A referendum on statehood, independence, or continuance of the status quo held on November 6, 2012. The terms boricua and borincano derive from Borikén and Borinquen respectively, and are commonly used to identify someone of Puerto Rican heritage. The island is also popularly known in Spanish as la isla del encanto, meaning "the island of enchantment". Columbus named the island San Juan Bautista, in honor of Saint John the Baptist. Eventually, traders and other maritime visitors came to refer to the entire island as "Puerto Rico", and "San Juan" became the name of the main trading/shipping port. Times Square NYC New Years Eve Ball Drop 2011 - 2012

01:04
Times Square NYC New Years Eve Ball Drop 2011 - 2012 Times Square NYC New Years Eve 2011 - 2012 Each year during the New Year's Eve celebration in Times Square in Manhattan New York City a time ball made by Waterford Crystal and electric lights is raised to the top of a pole on the One Times Square building at 6:00 pm and then lowered to mark the coming of the New Year. The ball descends 77 feet (23 m) over the course of a minute coming to rest at the bottom of its pole at midnight, then a sign with the digits of the new year lights up as the ball's lights turn off. Toshiba's Times Square billboard directly below the ball counts down to midnight as well. Every year up to one million people gather in Times Square to watch the ball drop and an estimated 1 billion watch the video of the event, 100 million of them in the United States. In 1904 The New York Times opens its new headquarters on Longacre Square (the city's second tallest building) and persuades the city to rename the triangular "square" for the newspaper. Owner Adolph Ochs initiates a massive celebration in the square for New Year's, which is so popular 200,000 came it permanently displaces the celebration from Trinity Church. There is no ball, but there are fireworks. 1907 Walter F. Palmer chief electrician for The Times creates the first New Year's Eve Ball in response to the behest of publisher Adolph Ochs to create some kind of spectacular midnight show that would draw attention to the Square. The New Year's Eve Ball first descended from a flagpole at One Times Square constructed with iron and wood materials with 100 25-watt bulbs weighing 700 pounds (320 kg) and measuring 5 feet (1.5 m) in diameter. At first it dropped 1 second after midnight. In 2012 the tradition continues here is a look at Times Square New York City in December 2011 for the New Years Eve for the big 2011 ball drop celebration. www.timessquarenyc.org Video by Ryan Janek Wolowski 12/31/2011 Times Square New York City USA
