Dolly the cloned sheep at The National Museum of Scotland

01:55
Dolly the cloned sheep at The National Museum of Scotland visited by Theresa Irene Wolowski and Ryan Janek Wolowski, Dolly (5 July 1996 -- 14 February 2003) was a female domestic sheep, and the first mammal to be cloned from an adult somatic cell, using the process of nuclear transfer. Dolly was cloned by Ian Wilmut, Keith Campbell and colleagues at the Roslin Institute and the biotechnology company PPL Therapeutics near Edinburgh in Scotland. The funding for Dolly's cloning was provided by PPL Therapeutics and the Ministry of Agriculture. Dolly was born on 5 July 1996 and she lived until the age of six, at which point she died from a progressive lung disease. She has been called "the world's most famous sheep" by sources including BBC News and Scientific American. The cell used as the donor for the cloning of Dolly was taken from a mammary gland, and the production of a healthy clone therefore proved that a cell taken from a specific part of the body could recreate a whole individual. On Dolly's name, Wilmut stated "Dolly is derived from a mammary gland cell and we couldn't think of a more impressive pair of glands than Dolly Parton's". Dolly lived for her entire life at the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh. There she was bred with a Welsh Mountain ram and produced six lambs in total. Puerto Rico port of Old San Juan

00:51
Puerto Rico (Spanish for "rich port") is officially named the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, which is an unincorporated territory of the United States, located in the northeastern Caribbean. Puerto Ricans became U.S. citizens in 1917, and the United States Congress legislates many aspects of Puerto Rican life. However, the islanders may not vote in U.S. presidential elections.Since 1947, Puerto Ricans have been able to elect their own governor. The official languages of Puerto Rico are Spanish and English, with Spanish being the primary language. The island's current political status, including the possibility of statehood or independence, is widely debated in Puerto Rico. A referendum on statehood, independence, or continuance of the status quo held on November 6, 2012. The terms boricua and borincano derive from Borikén and Borinquen respectively, and are commonly used to identify someone of Puerto Rican heritage. The island is also popularly known in Spanish as la isla del encanto, meaning "the island of enchantment". Columbus named the island San Juan Bautista, in honor of Saint John the Baptist. Eventually, traders and other maritime visitors came to refer to the entire island as "Puerto Rico", and "San Juan" became the name of the main trading/shipping port. Times Square NYC New Years Eve Ball Drop 2011 - 2012

01:10
Times Square NYC New Years Eve Ball Drop 2011 - 2012 Times Square NYC New Years Eve 2011 - 2012 Each year during the New Year's Eve celebration in Times Square in Manhattan New York City a time ball made by Waterford Crystal and electric lights is raised to the top of a pole on the One Times Square building at 6:00 pm and then lowered to mark the coming of the New Year. The ball descends 77 feet (23 m) over the course of a minute coming to rest at the bottom of its pole at midnight, then a sign with the digits of the new year lights up as the ball's lights turn off. Toshiba's Times Square billboard directly below the ball counts down to midnight as well. Every year up to one million people gather in Times Square to watch the ball drop and an estimated 1 billion watch the video of the event, 100 million of them in the United States. In 1904 The New York Times opens its new headquarters on Longacre Square (the city's second tallest building) and persuades the city to rename the triangular "square" for the newspaper. Owner Adolph Ochs initiates a massive celebration in the square for New Year's, which is so popular 200,000 came it permanently displaces the celebration from Trinity Church. There is no ball, but there are fireworks. 1907 Walter F. Palmer chief electrician for The Times creates the first New Year's Eve Ball in response to the behest of publisher Adolph Ochs to create some kind of spectacular midnight show that would draw attention to the Square. The New Year's Eve Ball first descended from a flagpole at One Times Square constructed with iron and wood materials with 100 25-watt bulbs weighing 700 pounds (320 kg) and measuring 5 feet (1.5 m) in diameter. At first it dropped 1 second after midnight. In 2012 the tradition continues here is a look at Times Square New York City in December 2011 for the New Years Eve for the big 2011 ball drop celebration. www.timessquarenyc.org Video by Ryan Janek Wolowski 12/31/2011 Times Square New York City USA

Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Tree Lighting 2012

04:54
Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Tree Lighting 2012 In honor of a family member we lost to breast cancer Theresa Irene Wolowski and Ryan Janek Wolowski, first lit this Kanzan tree in pink lights as a tribute to Maura Wolowski on 11-14-2010. The theme of the first lighting in 2010 was breast cancer awareness. After the tree was lit with pink mini holiday lights we said a prayer for Maura Wolowski and her surviving family members. She is still very much loved and not forgotten. Please encourage the ones you love to have a screening for breast cancer. During the holiday season we often gather and see family members. We are hoping this pink tree will make it easier and more likely that folks with be able to talk about breast cancer with their family members as well as their doctors. for example..Hey did you hear Aunt Theresa did a pink tree on her front lawn? Really why? She made a breast cancer awareness tree, instantly the whole room had an easy way to start talking about cancer, without it being a total downer and with early detection being your friend, we encourage everyone to get involved. This tree is planted on Long Island New York where the cancer rate is very high. The 2011 lighting took place on 11-12-2011 and was attended by Rich Wolowski, Theresa Irene Wolowski, Ryan Janek Wolowski, Girish Bhasin and John Erario. This years dedication was that of Cancer Recovery and we dedicated this to both Judy Wolowski and friend of the family Dorthy Phister who both were recently diagnosed with cancer. And with this early detection we are wishing them both a speedy recovery. Talk about this with your loved ones and make sure to get checked regularly. The theme of the second lighting in 2011 was cancer recovery The lighting of 2012 took place on December 1st 2012, the tree was lit again to honor Maura Wolowski, Updates for Judy Wolowski, Theresa Irene Wolowski, Dotty Phister, Terry Vlahos, and to all wishing and working to live cancer free in wellness. The theme of the third lighting in 2012 was wellness after cancer. Video Pink Flowering Kanzan Cherry Blossom Tree Ronkonkoma, Long Island, Suffolk County, New York, USA 12-01-2012
