Baby Shower Ideas - Easy Onesie Bouquet | Parents

02:01
Flowers make a lovely centerpiece at a baby shower, but instead of the real thing, give the mother-to-be a bouquet of blooms from baby onesies and wash cloths as a gift. For this project you'll need short-sleeved onesies, wash cloths, rubber bands, floral tape, Styrofoam, large popsicle sticks, a flower pot, and artificial leaves. Start by folding the onesie into a long rectangle, place a popsicle stick at the bottom of the onesie and roll until completely wrapped. Secure the bloom with a rubber band around the rolled onesie and fold down the edges. Next, wrap floral tape half way down to create a green base. Do the same with the wash cloth by first folding it into a long rectangle and then repeating the same steps. Arrange the flowers in the Styrofoam. Finally, fill in the spaces with artificial leaves. Pregnancy Workouts: Second Trimester Fitness | Parents

02:12
Watch as Parents tells you about second trimester pregnancy workouts! These well-rounded pregnancy workouts will allow you to stay fit during your second trimester as your baby continues growing and developing inside you. Start out the deadlift with a tall posture, tight abs, and bent knees. Place your hands behind your head and slowly hinge forward before coming back up. This exercise for pregnant women allows you to strengthen your upper body as you use it to move up and down. For the second exercise during pregnancy, simply widen your base of support by placing one foot out to your side then bringing it back to the beginning stance. These leg exercises are perfect for working out while pregnant because as your belly gets increasingly heavier, you're going to want that extra leg strength. Using a chair for balance purposes, extend out one leg slightly behind you and then slowly lower to maintain a tight butt. Completing these three pregnancy exercises for three sets makes one completed workout routine. Try to do the routine at least twice a week will to keep your body healthy and strong. As your pregnancy progresses, continue working out while pregnant in the best ways you can to stay in shape for the labor of delivery! Parenting Tips - What is Positive Discipline? | Parents

03:19
What is positive discipline? Watch as Parents Magazine defines different methods of discipline for some easy parenting tips to try. Discipline means "to teach," and through discipline, your child learns self-control. Positive discipline means you show respect, listen, reward good behavior, and remind your children that you love them when teaching them right from wrong. Negative discipline, such as spanking, leads to fear and low self-esteem. There are eight key points to positive child discipline -- be a good role model, be consistent, be calm and brief, be quick, pick your battles, be realistic, catch your child being good, and remind your child that you love him. Your child's behavior won't change immediately, but it's important to start utilizing these discipline techniques early on for effective parenting. Pregnancy Workouts: Third Trimester Fitness | Parents

02:27
Watch as Parents tells you about third trimester pregnancy workouts! Now that you've reached the final stage of your pregnancy, finding workouts you're still able to complete can be a challenge. These pregnancy workouts for your third trimester will help keep you in shape until your baby arrives. After your doctor gives you the go-ahead to workout while pregnant, these four moves will help your entire body stay as conditioned as it can be. The first pregnancy exercise you can try is alternating reverse lunges. Begin by standing behind a chair to use for balance. Slowly alternate reaching back onto one leg and standing back up. Keep your upper body tall, using the chair for assistance if necessary. Continue these exercises for pregnant women behind the chair with a side leg lift. Extend one leg out to the side, alternating to the other leg to maintain balance in your muscles. This move will keep your gluts active. As your belly grows increasingly larger to expand for your baby, you'll begin to feel more stress than ever on your body. This stretch will help alleviate and open up your ligaments, along with helping you achieve some pregnancy fitness. Take a seat on a chair and place your hands behind your head and lean over one side of your body. Hold the stretch before moving to the other side. Holding this pose, shift into an oblique exercise. Rather than holding the pose, continue leaning side to side. Exercising during pregnancy and your third trimester doesn't have to become obsolete; do whatever makes you feel the most comfortable and fit! Trying to Conceive: Tips for Getting Pregnant Faster | Parents

01:37
Watch as Parents tells you tips for getting pregnant faster! Now that you've made the life-changing decision to start or grow your family, you're probably looking for the best tips for increasing your chances of getting pregnant. Maintaining a healthy, balanced weight is necessary for ovulation to occur. To ovulate normally, a minimum of 22% body fat is needed, but being overweight can also alter your hormone levels, thus affecting ovulation. Eat right to ensure that you are getting the necessary vitamins and minerals to prime your body for getting pregnant. If you've been looking to kick a smoking habit, trying to conceive is the perfect time to do so. Smoking is associated with early miscarriages and low birth rates, among other things, and isn't good for you, anyway. Know your ovulation cycle and make sure to have sex the day before, the day of, and the day after for one of the simplest, fastest ways to get pregnant. Finally, skip the lube the next time you have sex with your partner. Lube creates an extra barrier sperm will have to get through and can even damage individual sperm. Trying to get pregnant is easier as your relax, so try not to worry if it doesn't happen right away. Focus on appreciating this alone time with your partner! Trying to Conceive: How to Increase Fertility | Parents

01:34
Watch as Parents tells you about how to increase fertility! If you and your partner have been trying to conceive and are having trouble getting pregnant, avoid these common fertility mistakes the next time you try to create a baby. There's a myth that certain positions in sex lead to more conceptions, but you don't have to worry about restricting your positions during sex. If you're ovulating and his sperm count is normal, the possibilities of conceiving are the same no matter which position you're in. Take into account that infertility can be your man's responsibility as well as your own. Have your doctor perform a fertility test for men to make sure that his sperm count is normal and can swim to the egg. If you're trying to increase fertility while you're ovulating, don't have sex multiple times a day. This actually decreases the sperm count and makes it even more difficult for you if you're trying to get pregnant. Do not douche, as this changes the pH of your vagina and decreases your natural fertility. Maintaining the natural pH of your vagina is important so that it's ready for when the sperm does come along, plus douching creates the chance for infections. Try not to stress about all the tips for getting pregnant you've been told. Studies have found that worrying about how to increase fertility decreases your chances for getting pregnant, so try relaxing during the lovemaking. Give these tips for getting pregnant a shot, and enjoy all the steps that lead up to conceiving a baby! How to Relieve Colic in Babies | Parents

01:44
Watch as Parents Magazines tells you about the symptoms of colic in babies and how to relieve them! All babies cry, but if your healthy baby cries for long periods of time, especially in the evening, he may be experiencing symptoms of colic. For colic relief, swaddle your baby on his side in your arms, make a "shush" noise, and give your baby a pacifier to suck on. Gas can also cause colic. Hold your baby's legs up to his chest for a minute to relieve. Burping your baby frequently during feeding or switching his bottle for one that minimizes the amount of air he takes in also helps. Keep these colic relief tips in mind to help soothe your baby! What is SIDS? | Baby Care Basics | Parents

01:39
Watch as Parents Magazine explains these baby care basics! Sudden infant death syndrome, also known as SIDS, is the unexplained death on an infant under age one. As a parent, there's nothing scarier than the idea that your baby could suddenly stop breathing while she's sleeping. There are a few things you should know about how to prevent SIDS. First, always put her to sleep on her back. When she's awake, she can spend some time on her side or tummy to encourage muscle development, but not while she's sleeping. Keep soft items, such as pillows, stuffed animals, and blankets out of her crib. In the baby crib, use only a firm mattress and tightly fitted sheets. Bumper pads can restrict your baby's breathing if she presses her face against them, so keep them out. The crib's slats should be spaced no more than 2 and 3/8 inches apart. Offering her a pacifier at night can prevent SIDS. Second-hand smoke can also increase a baby's risk of SIDS, just like smoking during pregnancy. Lastly, don't sleep with your baby anywhere. A loose blanket, pillow, or an accidental roll could suffocate her. If you want to stay close while still preventing SIDS, consider a co-sleeper that attaches to your bed! Parenting Tips - How to Give Time-Outs | Parents

03:24
Learn how to give time-outs as a punishment for children with Parents Magazine! Time-outs are time away from you. Kids crave attention from their parents, so losing it is a big deal. Reserve time-outs for behavior that could endanger your child or someone else. Time-outs can happen anywhere that's away from you. Just make sure it's someplace safe. Put your child in time-out for one minute for each year of your child's age, but don't give your child a time-out for having a temper tantrum. Just ignore them. If you're in a public place, don't wait to do a time-out. Be creative with your discipline techniques by stepping outside or using the restroom. Utilize these time-out parenting tips when disciplining children! Pregnancy Workouts: Best Arm Exercises | Parents

02:21
Watch as Parents shows you the best arm exercises in pregnancy workouts! After doing these arm exercises throughout your pregnancy, you'll be able to lift your baby with ease once he or she arrives. Begin by doing posture bicep curls using five pound weights. If your arms are fairly strong, use 7 1/2-pound weights. What makes these exercises for pregnant women different is keeping your elbows in close to your ribs and alternate lifting your arms fast and strong. Make sure your posture is not slouchy and your spine is completely stable for 20 to 25 reps. The next exercise for pregnant women is another take on bicep curls, but this time you're going to bend both up to 90-degree angles before lowering. After ten reps from the bottom up, hold that position. Finish the rep all the way up, then back down. Completing 15 to 20 reps of these arm exercises in your pregnancy workouts will leave you feeling stronger and leaner. Moving on to the back of the arms, single tricep extensions are a great exercise during pregnancy. Putting one weight down, allow your free hand to use the back of a chair as support. Bend your knees and hunch over slightly as your back arm bends into a row. While your arm is there, do a full extension straight then bend back to the beginning position. Finish off 20 to 25 reps to complete this area of focus. Completing these pregnancy exercises two or three times a week will help keep you fit during any trimester! Before sending your little tyke off to school for the first time, make the transition to preschool activities easier by working on three different traits at home! By working on these aspects in a comfortable and familiar environment, your preschool-aged child is going to be able to pick up on life traits that are going to prepare him for interacting with his peers when school begins. What is Lead Poisoning? |Baby Care Basics | Parents

01:55
Watch as Parents Magazine explains these baby care basics! Many parents go unaware of one danger hiding in their walls: lead poisoning. Children under five had developing brains that are especially sensitive to the damage caused by lead. Lead poisoning could affect language development, attention span, and even IQ. Symptoms of lead poisoning are often undetected, so it's important to know if your child could have been exposed. Lead-based paint is common in houses built before 1978 and old toys. Stay up to date on recalls, and ask your doctor to test your child at both 12 and 24 months of age. Have a professional inspector test your home and drinking water, and cover peeling paint. If you renovate, use a lead-safe certified contractor. Leave shoes at the door and all household members should wash their hands regularly. If your child does test positive for a high lead level, a health care professional can help lower the level and watch for signs of lead poisoning! Pregnancy Workouts: Best 10 Minute Workout | Parents

10:37
Watch as Parents shows you the best 10 minute pregnancy workout! No matter which trimester you're in, these exercises for pregnant women will help keep you healthy throughout your entire pregnancy in just a short circuit. Start out these pregnancy exercises in a wide plie with your shoulders down and back. Using 3- to 5-pound weights, place your palms at your shoulders and do squats for 15 repetitions. Maintain good posture and wide, open knees to gain strength in your legs that will become beneficial in later trimesters when you are carrying a bigger baby. Shifting into exercises for cardio during pregnancy, you'll want to put the weights down and bring your legs into a narrower base. For 30 seconds, pulse your body up and down by bending your knees with your arms straight out in front of you. Working out while pregnant by doing these cardio exercises will get your blood pumping, but it also helps you stay fit before labor! Shift into dead lifts with 5- to 8-pound hand weights. Hinge forward and back up at the hips for 15 repetitions, keeping your knees slightly bent so you don't put too much stress on your body. If you get winded or tired during these pregnancy workouts, take a break. While working out is important for maintaining a healthy pregnancy, so is knowing your own body's comfort level! Adjust your posture by leaning for bent-over rows. Bend your knees nice and deep, then pull your arms back for 15 reps. Switching back to cardio exercises, you're going to pull a single elbow to your knee for 15 seconds before switching to the other side. Your hard-to-reach obliques are being targeted during this pregnancy workout along with your lower back. Move on to the bicep curls for 15 repetitions to tone your upper arms, then dive into bent over triceps. Bend your knees once again, bringing your arms behind you and back to the resting position. With your palms facing up, extend your hands outward and back in. Maintain strong posture during this pregnancy workout will help you to fight any slouching that your growing belly brings on. Start from the top with these exercises for round two to continue exercising while pregnant. Your complete workout is then wrapped up! Cool down with a bit of stability work. Widen your base of support and lift one leg up for two seconds, then switch to the other side. Exercising during pregnancy can be challenging, but with these workouts, pregnancy fitness becomes easier to maintain!
