But there are also some nutritional benefits when you pair certain foods together in the same meal. People often ask me if there are certain foods that they should or shouldn't eat at the same time. For the most part, your digestive system is designed to process pretty much anything you send its way, and in pretty much any combination. But sometimes, eating certain foods together can actually give you a bit more nutritional benefit than if you ate the foods separately. Here are a few examples of what's known as 'food synergy'. • Onions and garlic with whole grains. Sulfur compounds found in onions and garlic can help your body absorb minerals -- like zinc - from whole grains. Zinc is found in both animal foods and grains, but it's harder for your body to absorb from it plant sources. So next time you cook up some whole wheat pasta, toss it with some onions or garlic for a nutrition boost. • Colorful veggies with a little fat. Many fruits and vegetables contain antioxidant compounds called carotenoids -- found in abundance in carrots, spinach, tomatoes and other deeply colored foods. When you eat these foods with a little bit of fat, it helps your body absorb the healthy pigments. So, if you make a salad with deep green lettuce, carrots and tomatoes -- all of which contain carotenoids - adding a little healthy fat from avocado will help your body absorb these beneficial compounds. • Black pepper with fruits and veggies. Hi folks, I have not yet addressed this head on in any video yet but here are the personal reasons I prep. I prep to make sure I can feed my family in case of any crisis or SHTF situation. I like to think of us as "suburban survivalists". I plan to bug in at home as long as we can. If we need to, we have contingency plans to bug out ( locally, or to another state or country if needed). While I don't fear a zombie apocalypse, I can see how civil unrest can erupt quickly even in our homeland given the right circumstances. Whether it be solar flares, pandemic, economic collapse, earthquakes, natural disasters, nuclear attack or EMP etc., we never know what might happen or when. I do not want to be chicken little and the sky is falling nor do I want to be Pollyanna (all is well and nothing bad will ever happen). My goal is to be aware, educated on the matters having done my research and to be prepared for the unlikely events that might never happen. My Personal Reasons for Prepping (these are my drivers): 1. Concern Over Personal Income Loss/Loss of Job (I need 1 years worth of preps) 2. EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) which will quickly cut off supply chains. Losing weight is all abut being healthy, yet being healthy is not necessarily about losing weight. If you eat the right foods for you, you will be bouncing off the walls with energy. Transcript below. Today I would like to give you some of my everyday tips to good health and weight maintenance. Because I am a fit and healthy person and I am often asked how and why. So Here are my 11healthy body tips -- No 1 Find out you ideal weight for your body size and shape -- You can do this by using the standard BMI scale or you can talk to your doctor, naturopath, nutritionist or personal trainer. By finding out what is classed as healthy for you, you will be ensured you are focused on the right weight and size for maximum health. Don't be mislead by what is right for others, you are U-nique. No 2 Set a goal -- Having a goal gives your weight loss and health goals a reason for being. If there is no goal, there is no commitment and your plans are wishy washy. So, along with your ideal weight, look at what size clothing you wish to fit into and also the measurements you wish to be. Or you could focus on being able to climb that mountain that you struggle to do now, with strength and power. Just pick out some goals, write them down and become accountable to them. No 3 Exercise every day - It does not have to be hard core, just get your heart pumping and a bit of a sweat going on. I find that 20mins most days for me is enough, however once or twice a week, make it an hour workout. And mix it up, upper body one day, legs the next; a walk along the beach one day, climb a mountain the next; yoga one day, a cardio DVD the next. Keep it fresh and new to prevent yourself from getting board. Obviously have your health checked by a professional before you begin. No 4 Only drink water! Unless its vodka -- obviously I'm joking. Water is a fabulous detoxifier and it has zero fat or calories. If you are hungry, drink a BIG glass of water and wait 5 minutes and then see how you feel. The type of water you drink is important for maximum health, however ill save my water tips are for another clip. No 5 Focus on how far you have come, not how far you have to go -- This is HUGE!!! It's the essence of life -- we live what we think about most of the time. If you have lost a kilo and you are aiming for 10, praise yourself! Do a little happy dance as you are closer to your goals then you were before. On a vibrational level, every time you praise yourself and focus on your accomplishments, you become more of a vibrational match to your goal. This will in turn create more support and a universal push for more accomplishment. No 6 You can't exercise enough to work off a poor diet -- From my experience and understanding, food is 80% of the movement towards health and weight loss, exercise is only about 20%. Yes, you will need to exercise, but concentrate on a healthy diet more so then your exercise regime. Watching what you put into your mouth will benefit you in more ways than a dress size. You will look better, feel better, be healthier, live longer and enjoy your life more as good food creates a good mood. It makes you happy when you eat well. If you want a quick fix, you will quickly revert back to the weight you were. It's not ALL about losing weight, plus who ever said that skinny was healthy? No 7 Stop starving yourself to be thin and begin to nourish yourself with whole foods to be healthy -- HEALTHY, not thin! HEALTHY!! Concentrate 70% of your food shopping in the fresh fruit and veg department. If you eat what the earth gave us, closest to its natural form, your body will become closest to its natural form. You are what you eat. I know there is a lot of temptation out there, I shop in the same places you do, but if I can do it so can you. I hear people say "I love food to much to give up certain things." Yet it is not the foods that are driving you, it is your addiction to them. Weight loss explained. I believe you have everything it takes (love and motivation) to experiment and create your own delicious and nutritious recipes for your dog, recipes that are far more nutritious than the pablum that is served in most doggy bowls today. Homemade Dog Food Recipe Principles Thus, without further ado, here is the anatomy of a good homemade dog food recipe: 1) Begin with animal meat of some kind This can be beef, chicken, turkey or lamb ground up or served in chunks. If you wish to serve ground meat you can purchase whole and use the excellent Maverick Meat Grinder to prepare ground meat. In addition to these meats, you can feed fish (fillets) or even wild game such as rabbit, elk, venison, etc. (50% of your recipe should consist of one of these ingredients) 2) Add in organ meat of some kind This can include beef, chicken, turkey, lamb or pork liver as well as beef or lamb kidney. (10% of your recipe should include one of these ingredients) 3) Add other fresh ingredients. Add in either eggs, yogurt or cottage cheese. (15% of your recipe can include one of these ingredients) 4) Add a vegetable of some kind This can include broccoli, carrots, sweet potatoes, cabbage, zucchini, cabbage or cauliflower. NOTE: Vegetables must be mashed or puréed in a blender. (25% of your recipe can include one of these ingredients) 5) Supplement every meal with calcium. If you are not feeding raw meaty bones to your dog, which contain calcium, you must provide a supplement in your meals. (You can add ½ pound teaspoon of ground eggshell to every pound of food.) Feeding Suggestions Finally, feed once or twice a day (these would be ½ portions) at about 2-3% of your dog's body weight. For a 100 lbs. dog, this would be 2-3 pounds of food per day or 1 to 1 ½ pounds of food per meal if feeding twice a day. Conclusion And there you have it. Mix and match these various ingredients in the right amounts and your dog will receive great nutrition as well as healthy, homemade, delicious recipes. Vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants, low calorie, list goes on and on. Add it to your salads, or as a side with your lean meat, put them in an omelet, vegetable lasagna, add some protein with your greens and BAM you have one heck of a power combo. Don't neglect your veggies, you can't go wrong! Well, actually, let me clarify that... you can if you smother it with teriyaki sauce, or butter, or cheese, steamed is ideal.
