Allergy Awareness Week 13 - 19 May 2013 - Allergy New Zealand

00:31
At least 1 in 10 babies born in New Zealand today will develop an allergy. Go to http://www.allergy.org.nz/Allergy+Awareness+Week+2013.html to find out more! Allergies affect up to a third of New Zealanders and if untreated have a significant impact on quality of life, particularly for children. Symptoms of asthma, eczema and/or allergic rhinitis (hayfever) can cause poor quality sleep, leading to irritability, fatigue and an inability to concentrate which has an adverse effect on children's learning and development. Some allergies, such as to food, insect venom and drugs, can also put people at risk of a life-threatening reaction (called anaphylaxis). Major indoor allergens in New Zealand include house dust mites and mould. They can be a cause of asthma, allergic rhinitis and eczema. A drier, warmer home is a healthier home. Allergies are increasing in prevalence globally and New Zealand has some of the highest rates of allergies in the world. There is no cure. Management requires effective treatment of symptoms, and avoidance of the allergens triggering them. Reactions usually happen very quickly and those at risk of anaphylaxis and their family, friends and communities need to know the signs and how to respond to this emergency. Allergy Awareness Week is proudly supported by: Freedom Foods HRV Nilfisk Wiggles

Help Im Allergic To Everything!

Are you one of those people who appear to be allergic to so many foods? A subscriber posted this question, many may be familiar with this question. If you want to do any comprehensive stool testing or food allergy testing click HERE: https://bit.ly/2qmrnY6 Your FREE Candida Report here: https://www.yeastinfection.org/free-candida-report Greetings, Eric Bakker, New Zealand naturopath. Thanks for checking out my video. I've got an interesting question here. I've got lots of questions to go through again, as usual. So here's a question from a subscriber. "Eric, do you have any suggestions for people who have allergic reactions to a lot of healthy foods. I've been on the strict candida diet for four months and my allergic reactions to things like nuts and seeds, lemon juice I get mouth tingling, eggs I get gut and nasal, nightshades and the achy joints, et cetera. I never had such reactions to these things when I was healthy. Could it be the long term allergies or simply because of leaky gut candida? Should I avoid all of these things strictly and try again when I am healed?" That's a great question. Well, the first thing I'd recommend you probably do is check out ... do a stool test on yourself to see what the heck is going on inside. You know, a stool test generally will give you a lot of good information. It's gonna show you what the microbiology of the gut is like, where the imbalances are, where your strengths are, where your weaknesses are. You don't need to do a leaky gut test if you do a stool test because that will give you a pretty good idea on how permeable the gut is. You'll be able to pick that up through the secretory IgA, through the bacterial levels, all sorts of different things. So that would be probably a smart thing to do if you've been sick for this long. You could also consider food allergy testing, you know, a blood based test for IgG, IgE antibodies to see if you're reacting to any kind of foods. That's probably maybe the first test that you may want to consider, will be the food allergy before you do a stool test. Now let's say you can't afford any testing at all. Well, fair, fair enough. Okay, if you can't afford any testing, I can appreciate that. What I recommend you do then is write down all of the foods that you're currently consuming ... all the foods! So just get a piece of paper, my piece, my love allergy sheet for example. Say you were, for example, here. You'd write all your foods down in a column here, every food that you eat. Okay? This is quite a smart thing to do. So you write nightshades, you write lemon juice, you write nuts and seeds. Define the nuts and seeds. Do you eat almonds? Do you eat brazil nuts? Do you eat poppy seeds? Do you eat sunflower seeds? I write everything down, preferably in categories: meats, dairy, vegetables, fruits, condiments, grains, all that kind of stuff, and then itemize all those. You could do it on Excel Spreadsheet. And then you've got columns on the right of that. What you wanna do then is write your severity index. All right? So meaning one, mild reaction, two, moderate reaction, three, bad reaction. So just put a tick in those columns. And then have a look at that list and then date it. So now you've established all the foods you eat, how strong a reaction is, and when you got those reactions. All right? This is a very smart thing to do, because then over time, as your gut heals, you should notice that those things are going from a strong reaction down to a moderate to a mild reaction. So, I hope that answers your question. Thanks for the question, I appreciate it.

Untreated allergic reactions caused by food can be fatal

01:49
Experts warn the public to be cautious of allergens, substances that can cause allergic reaction to the body, as allergies can sometimes be life-threatening. Allergy causes can vary from person-to-person. According to experts, common allergens are food, molds, insect bites, pollen, and drugs. Allergies are 'abnormal' responses of the body triggered by the immune system. Normally, the immune system fends off foreign substances known as antigens. As a combat mechanism, the body produces antibodies and other chemicals. However, during an allergic reaction, the body inappropriately reacts, releasing chemicals such as histamine to attack protein. When this occurs, common symptoms of allergies occur. Allergic symptoms include rashes, asthma, reddening of the eyes, among others. According to experts, most allergies are not serious and can be treated with various over the counter or prescription drugs. However, there can be times when allergies can result to severe illness, demanding immediate medical attention. If not immediately treated, it can result to death. Anaphylaxis is the life-threatening allergic reaction which causes a sudden release of chemicals by the body's immune system. When this occurs, chemicals cause the body to undergo shock, causing a sudden drop in the blood pressure and difficulty breathing. When undergoing anaphylaxis, experts said a patient must be immediately rushed to the hospital emergency room and be injected by epinephrine. This holiday season, experts warn the public to be extra cautious of food allergens as some may be present in dishes served during gatherings. According to infectious disease expert Dr. Rey Salinel, some allergens can be 'hidden' in cooked dishes. "Minsan nga hindi mo mamamalayan, pero nag-manifest sayo [ang] allergy. Ibig sabihin nakakakuha ka (Sometimes you won’t notice the food allergen until the allergic reaction manifests in your body)," he said. Common food allergens include seafood, peanuts, and eggs. Experts also added, if food is not handled properly, food allergens can be potentially cross contaminated. Cross contamination can occur if proteins from one food directly make contact with another, or indirectly transfer via utensils or hands. Cleaners such as kitchen sponges can also act as a contamination agent if microscopic allergens are transferred to plates. If plates are not washed properly, the allergens can contaminate food during next use. However, US-based National Center for Biotechnology Information clarified, allergic reactions from cross contamination depends on the amount of exposure, frequency, and the individual’s threshold dose. According to experts, ample knowledge of your specific allergen is the first step towards avoiding allergic reaction. Once you have identified what substances you are allergic to, as much as possible, avoid these. Also, when preparing food this holiday season, experts said it would help to properly label food in order to avoid unwanted allergic reactions. Further, preparing and serving food that can possibly cause allergies separately can decrease chances of contamination. Using clean utensils specifically designated for only a single food type is also recommended by experts.

There are currently over 5000 fragrances in use in cosmetics and body care but also in things you wouldn't expect such as nappies and rubbish bags! Fragrance is one of the top allergens that causes ACD (Allergen Contact Dermatitis). Unless products specifically state they are Fragrance Free they will most likely have a fragrance added to them, even if it just a 'masking' scent to cover the smell of the formulation. Because of his severe allergies, Ethan was missing a lot of school, like months of school at a time and he could barely breathe. His mother tried a variety of different medications and natural treatments but nothing alleviated Ethan's allergies. When Ethan came to see Dr. Dean Mitchell at Mitchell Medical Group in NYC, we did a simple allergy test on him and discovered that Ethan is allergic to dust mites. We created sublingual immunotherapy allergy drops for Ethan which would, over time, desensitize him to dust mites. After taking 4 drops orally each night before bed, Ethan started to feel a lot better. This year, he has only missed 2 days of school as a result of his allergy treatment. Their faeces are so light that they float in the air when disturbed by our everyday activities. It is inhaling these minute particles that can cause allergic reactions and frustrating fits of sneezing. The good news is that Dyson is here to help. Dyson vacuums are designed to help keep your house clean and free of household dust, and more importantly, dust mites.

Is Sulfur Intolerance Making You Sick?

06:44
Do you have sulfur intolerance? Many people mistake a histamine intolerance for a problem with sulfur foods in fact. Your FREE Candida Report here: https://www.yeastinfection.org/free-candida-report/ Greetings. Eric Bakker, naturopath from New Zealand. Thanks for coming back. I often get asked by people about histamine reactions, about feeling sick or flushed in the face or nauseous and brain fog and many people think that they've got a problem with the histamine reaction. In fact, they could have a reaction with sulfur in their body. Sulfur is quite a natural compound found in a whole bunch of different foods. It's found especially in foods like garlic and onions. It's found in brassicas. You find it a lot in cauliflower and broccoli. You can even find it and watermelon. A quick Google search will show you a whole list of sulfur-containing foods. Eggs, for example, contain a lot of sulfur in them. Some people know that they react to these foods, other people don't. If we look at the structure of amino acids, or if you look in the amino acids, protein break down to building blocks. We've got carbohydrates, we've got proteins, we've got fats. But if we look at proteins and break them down, we've got 21 different amino acids. Now, two of these amino acids contain sulfur, methionine and cystine. All right? If we try and understand this, we're gonna go a little bit into chemistry here to explain, by chemistry to explain a few things to you. Sulfur's very important for the body, particularly for detoxification, because methionine and cystine drive three main detoxification pathways in your liver. Your liver has two main ways how it breaks foods down to detoxify, two filtration stages, phase one and phase two. Phase one works by virtue of a whole bunch of different enzyme systems called P450 enzymes. Phase two works with five different regulatory systems, five different pathways, I think, how it breaks foods down, or breaks toxins down. Three of those pathways rely on methionine and cystine to really help to drive them properly. Let's just have a look at those three systems. I wonder if you can see my chart here. Here we've got phase one and phase two. Sulfation, glucorodiation, and glutathione as transference. Those three pathways rely on cystine and methionine. They plug into that system. If you've got a problem with sulfur, you can have a problem with detoxification, and it can make you feel quite sick. How do you get around this? What are we gonna do about all this? What's the solution? Well, you can't really completely avoid sulfur. It's very hard to get it out of your diet. There are a couple of reasons why sulfur could be playing up with you. Let me just go back to my notes here. What you could be looking at, for example, is a genetic mutation. Some people have this. We know that, for example, with B12, we've got the MTHFR gene, so you can be homozygous or have two bad copies of the gene and that can cause a problem called CBS, or cystathionine beta-synthase. You can actually do an online search for CBS to see if you've got a problem with this particular pathway. And then, if you have, you can do that test, I believe, online, and it will allow you then to make up your mind if you wanna avoid the highest sulfur containing foods or not, which is probably not a bad idea. But, one of the most common ways people get a sulfur sensitivity is through heavy metal toxicity. If we look at the four main metals that affect people, if they've got a sulfur problem, lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury. These are sulfhydryl metals. These metals, in particular, can make some people really sick if they've got a buildup of them, due to their sulfur sensitivity. You can do a hair analysis to determine what your level of heavy metals are like in the body, and particularly mercury can be a really big problem if you got a sensitivity towards sulfur. That's something that you might wanna have a look at. One way you can test, if you've got a big sulfur problem, is through the organic acids test, so the O test, that's a urinary metabolite test. That will give you an idea. And the markers you're gonna find that could come back could be high sulfates, ammonia, orotate, citrate, isocitrate, or vitamin B6. These could be really affected if you've got a sulfur problem. I mentioned about the genetic test. You can do those. What do you do if you got a sulfur sensitivity? How do you get this fixed up? Well, go to Google and then do a Google search for the list of the highest sulfur-containing foods, and then try and eliminate some of those from your diet to see if it does really make a difference. If it does, and that's the only thing that you've done, you can put some of the higher sulfur-containing foods back in to see if you get aggravated and feel sick again. I hope that answers a few questions. Thanks for tuning in.

New Zealand Colostrum - 100% pure, undiluted, minimally processed, 24 hour colostrum

03:10
http://www.antlerfarms.com Colostrum is known as Mother Nature’s First Food because it is the pre-milk fluid that newborn mammals consume within the first few hours of birth. Colostrum delivers a high concentration of 90 biologically active substances including vitamins, minerals, enzymes and amino acids. But by far the most beneficial components in colostrum are its immune factors and growth factors. Colostrum is the only natural product that contains active immune factors. Immune factors make up our body’s immune system to provide defense against pathogens. The primary immune factors in colostrum are immunoglobulins, also known as antibodies. Immunoglobulins protect us by binding to and eliminating pathogens. They prevent viral and bacterial infections, allergies, and the growth of yeast and fungus. 70% of the cells that comprise our immune system are located in the gut. Most pathogens that invade our bodies do so through our mucosal lining. Therefore, having a healthy gut is the best defense against disease. The regular use of colostrum keeps active antibodies in our gut which combat pathogens we ingest. In addition, it seals, reinforces and heals the gut lining, acting as a barrier to prevent pathogens from entering our bloodstream. That’s why many scientists believe that colostrum is the most powerful preventative food substance that we can consume. Colostrum is also beneficial to athletic performance. The key lies in its rich growth factor matrix, led by IGF-1. IGF-1 is a highly anabolic hormone that activates cell growth and repair. Colostrum helps build lean muscle, improve strength and boost endurance. Colostrum also cuts recovery time and speeds the healing of muscle, tendon, and ligament injuries. The regenerative effects of colostrum’s growth factors extend to nearly all the body's structural cells, which makes colostrum a powerful anti-aging food. Antler Farms® New Zealand colostrum is collected from healthy, grass fed cows within 24 hours of calving. During this period the nutritional and therapeutic value of colostrum are at their highest. Note that the needs of newborn calves are always met first. This is essential to the health of calves and the preservation of the herd. Because a cow produces much more colostrum than a calf can drink, we are not taking anything away from the calf. Our colostrum is 100% pure, undiluted and minimally processed. Immediately after collection, it is transported in a chilled container to a processing facility where it is flash pasteurized and spray dried. At Antler Farms®, we are very careful to preserve all of colostrum’s biological components during each step of processing. We conduct tests to be sure that our colostrum is free of hormones, antibiotics, GMOs, chemical residues, heavy metals and other pollutants. Antler Farms® New Zealand colostrum is produced in one of the purest places on earth. As the most advanced dairy producer in the world, New Zealand is the best source for clean, high quality, grass fed colostrum. Best Diet For Seborrheic Dermatitis

03:32
Hi there, Eric Bakker, a naturopath from New Zealand. We're coming back, we're talking about Seb Derm. Let's look at the best diet for Seb Derm, what are the best foods you can eat if you've got this condition? If you've got this condition and you're watching this video now, chances are you've already made changes. You've already put away those cans of soda, and energy drinks, and you put away all the candy, the ice cream, all the kind of junk. So probably the best advice I can give you if you want a really good diet for Seb Derm is to go and look at some of my videos on this channel regarding healthy eating. There are many videos regarding that. The best foods for Seb Derm are anti inflammatory foods, low allergy foods, and anti inflammatory foods. So what are anti inflammatory foods? They're the colorful vegetables in particular. Beef is prone inflammatory, be careful with red meat in particular, like beef. Beef can be egg yolks or eggs can be a bit inflammatory. So if I had a bad skin condition I would probably really focus on proteins like fish, maybe free range chicken. I'd be looking at the brassicas, excuse me, like broccoli, cauliflower, kale, brussel sprouts. I'd be looking at spinach, celery, what other foods would I look for? Nuts and seeds, maybe some almonds, brazil nuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds. I'd be looking at flax seed oil in the diet, maybe a couple of capsules of omega-3 each day. Particularly omega-3 very high in DHA, and EPA. Make sure you get a fish oil that have got both these components in it, but particularly the EPA. The EPA's the anti inflammatory one. So I would take two capsules a day of that because that's going to be anti inflammatory. I'd be looking at garlic in the diet, I'd be looking at ginger in the diet. I'd be talking out as much processed and refined foods as possible. Especially grain foods but you should be fine to eat quinoa, brown rice, they're all chia seeds, these are good foods to eat, no problem at all, white fish, but check out my videos on the healthy eating. I'm pretty sure I would've completed some videos on the anti inflammatory, the best anti inflammatory foods to eat and also the low allergy foods like cows milk and dairy's not a great food to consume if you've got a skin condition like Seb Derm. I would absolutely recommend that you take out cheese, milk, cream, all those sorts of foods from the diet. They're too congesting, they're too inflammatory, they can have a potential really for blowing that skin right up. So I would treat a Seb Derm case diet wise, the same as a psoriasis case, it's an anti fungal diet wise. All my psoriasis patients go on the candida crusher diet approach. I think that's the best approach also for Seb Derm because there are, you know there are certainly a potential there for the , for the yeast occurring on the skin surface for that to go haywire. So if we want to contain the yeast and make it behave, we need to look at an anti fungal diet. For internally, it's also going to affect the external. So don't kid yourself, what you eat very much affects your external skin. So that's probably a good approach for you, your candida diet is the one to really look at and focus on when it comes to Seb Derm. Plenty of information on this channel. Thanks for tuning in.
