The World Health Organization warned on Tuesday, farmers should severely limit their use of antibiotics in animals. This in order to stop the growing threat of antibiotic resistance to the human population. Antibiotics are routinely used today to protect the health of the herd and promote animal growth. New guidelines issued by WHO call for an end to those practices in order to maintain the effectiveness of the current supply of antibiotics. This and to quell the rise of superbugs. They are resistant to almost all forms of medication. According to a report published in The Lancet on Monday, limiting the antibiotics given to food-producing animals ― such as chickens, cows and pigs ― can reduce antibiotic-resistant bacteria in those animals by up to 39 percent. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/who-antibiotics-farm-animals_us_5a01fa3be4b0920530585dd9?section=us_healthy-living http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Worried Of snakes These Plants Will Repel Snakes From Your Garden Certain plants like marigold, wormwood, West Indian lemon grass, Sarpgandha and garlic are natural repellent against snakes. These plants have bitter tastes and strong smells that cause discomfort and disorientation to snakes when they slither over them. They can be planted around homes and gardens to chase away serpents which cannot tolerate their strong odours. Snakes do not actually damage the garden -- in fact, common varieties prey on other pests such as slugs, mice, voles and beetles. However, poisonous species are a serious threat to green thumbs and pets, and even nonvenomous snakes can bite or just plain scare to gardeners. Different types of store-bought repellents affect only certain types of snakes, but some organic tricks help keep your garden serpent-free, regardless of the species. Marigolds The Mother-in-law’s tongue (Variegated snake plant ) The plant is so named because of its sharp leaves. Snakes don’t like its appearance. Pink agapanthus The Pink Agapanthus is of the onion family. Zulus plant it around their homes to deter snakes. Sarpagandha Known by a variety of names such as Sarpagandha, Indian Snake root and Insanity herb, this plant is known for its ability to repel away snakes. Lemon Grass (Cymbopogon citratus) Snakes don’t like the citrus smell from the leaves. The leaves or the tips can turn brown in extreme heat in summer. It requires very little care. An added advantage of Lemon Grass, is that is contains citronella which is the base for most mosquito repellents; Soucrce - https://wiki.nurserylive.com/t/worried-of-snakes-these-plants-will-repel-snakes-from-your-garden/166 -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Music - Santo Rico by Twin Musicom is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Artist: http://www.twinmusicom.org/ -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- ►Facebook Page : https://www.facebook.com/DailyHealthTipsu ►YouTube Channel : https://www.youtube.com/c/DailyHealthTipsu ►twitter Page : https://twitter.com/DdailyHealthTip ►google+ : https://plus.google.com/b/101580818052247826185/101580818052247826185/videos?gmbpt=true&hl=en ►Pinterest : https://www.pinterest.com/HealthTipsu ►Blogspot : http://ddailyhealthtips.blogspot.com

What is an abscess and what do you do about it? An abscess is a pocket of pus building up inside the body's tissue. It can be caused by an injury -like getting bit by another animal- or it could be caused by an infected tooth. This is what's wrong with Scrubby. Treatment, generally speaking, is to drain the abscess and give the animal antibiotics. Scrubby will also have to have his bad tooth removed. This video isn't about cute kittens & it's a little long & boring. BUT I thought it might be helpful to some people who might be dealing with this too. Scrubby is my original 'Foster Fail'. His litter was my very first foster litter. There was no Mama cat and I raised the 3 of them from about 1-2 days old. That was 18 years ago and Scrubby is still with me. One of these days I'll share his story. But for now, we just need to get him healthy again. As soon as he is well we will pick up another foster litter! I get a lot of questions about how to care for an illness at home when you have no access to a vet. There are some great options but sometimes the vet is just the best option. Period. I know how hard it can be when funds are low and you desperately want to do what's right by your pet. I understand that struggle. I'm including a couple links here that talk about possible options for getting that vet appointment when you think there's no way you can afford it. There is no shame in asking for help with payment plans, etc. Your fur baby is worth it! We foster through our local shelter. The cats come into the shelter as strays or owner surrenders. *ALL cats are vaccinated, spayed and neutered before the shelter allows them to be adopted *YES, their bedding is changed and litter boxes are scooped throughout the day. A few days ago we noticed a few blood drips around Rey's penis, so I we looked into this matter, and took him to the vet asap. Bleeding from the penis is never normal, and if you see this you should ask for immediate diagnosis and start treatment as soon as you can. In this video we discuss the possible reasons of bleeding from the penis. Thanks for watching this video my animal lover friend! This is a video of me drawing blood from a live chicken, which is one of the many cool things I get to do in my animal science classes here in South Africa. The blood samples are collected in these special tubes that separate the blood contents (cells and serum). Once separated (serum on top and cells on bottom), we'll then be able to take them to the lab for a further analysis. More specifically, we can perform an antibody count of the serum. This information is vital within the world of animal science, especially when it comes down to properly vaccinating animals.

In Australia we consider ourselves a nation of pet lovers and yet, studies show pet populations are actually in decline, could the reason be Australia is just not pet friendly enough? Dr Chris Brown, Australian Veterinarian, says, “Owning a pet brings happiness to people’s lives and bonds communities together, so why are we making it so hard for people? I believe pet ownership should be encouraged as they give us simple joys that can help us in so many ways”. So with the help of Mars Petcare Australia, Dr Chris Brown is taking the campaign to government, the Australian community and social media to #keepauspetfriendly. With pets considered part of the family in most Australian households and growing fear that we’re on the way to regulating them out of our lives, Dr Chris Brown will share his vision into how we can #keepauspetfriendly.

Watch on LabRoots at https://www.labroots.com/ms/webinar/webinar-automated-assays-protein-engineering-vitro-vivo Enzyme engineering is a powerful technology now widely used in laboratories around the world. The goal is to obtain improved proteins that will serve as better biocatalysts, biosensors or as a tool to understand protein evolution, which is at the core of many societal problem, such as antibiotic resistance. Enzyme engineering entails the initial generation of libraries of mutants that will then be screened for improved properties (for example: better selectivity or specificity towards a substrate of interest, improved stability, etc). Obtaining good quality libraries is becoming routine thanks to the availability of molecular biology tools and computational simulations. The bottleneck of the experiment remains at the screening level. The bigger the generated library, the more stringent the requirement for the high-throughput screen. In our work we tackle both aspects: library generation and screening throughput by using the enzyme Candida antarctica lipase A (Cal-A) as a model. Cal-A has the potential to be applied in the food industry for the hydrolysis of saturated short-chain fatty acids (C4 and C6) vs. saturated C10-C16 fatty acids - a very useful tool for the dairy industry. Upon generation of several libraries of mutants using a novel Golden Gate-based strategy, we developed two screening methods (in vivo and in vitro) that give us the required high-throughput capacity. The two screening methods, one carried out on agar plates and the other in liquid, are completely automated and they are both optimized for our Biomek NXP system.
