Parvovirus infection - Medical Definition and Pronunciation

https://word2speech.com/medical/ Parvovirus infection Parvovirus infection: Infection with one of a family of small single-stranded DNA viruses. (Parvovirus means small virus, from the Latin parvus, small.) One type, parvovirus B19, infects only humans. There are also animal parvoviruses, but they do not infect humans. A person cannot catch parvovirus B19 from a dog or cat. The diagnosis of parvovirus B19 can be confirmed by a blood test. Parvovirus infection in childhood: The most common illness caused by parvovirus B19 is fifth disease. It occurs most often in children. The child typically has a slapped-cheek rash on the face and a lacy red rash on the trunk and limbs. The rash may itch. The child does not usually seem very ill. The rash resolves in 7 to 10 days. Once a child recovers, he or she has lasting immunity and is protected against future infection. Parvovirus infection in adulthood: Adults can and do become infected with the virus. In adults, the flu-like symptoms are often more severe and the condition is called parvovirus infection, not fifth disease. Adults typically do not get a rash of the face, but can have the lacey rash of the body. Parvovirus arthritis: Adults with parvovirus commonly have joint pains and swelling. This form of arthritis usually resolves within weeks, but about 10% of patients can have a more prolonged arthritis that does mimic rheumatoid arthritis. (The rheumatoid factor blood test is usually negative, but can be positive.) Treatment involves medications that reduce inflammation in the joints. Parvovirus infection during pregnancy: Parvovirus B19 infection during pregnancy can cause a miscarriage or cause the baby to have unborn baby to have severe anemia. This occurs in less than 5% of all pregnant women who are infected with parvovirus B19, most commonly during the first half of pregnancy. There is no evidence that parvovirus B19 infection causes birth defects or mental retardation. Using Colloidal Silver to Cure Parvo in Dogs

02:15
Want more great colloidal silver videos? Just click SUBSCRIBE. For more info on using colloidal silver to cure Parvo in dogs, see the short article directly below... Using Colloidal Silver to Cure Parvo in Dogs While there's no clinical or published veterinary evidence that colloidal silver can be used to cure Parvovirus in dogs, there's TONS of anecdotal evidence. Indeed, people have been using colloidal silver on their "Parvo puppies" (and grown dogs with Parvo, as well) for many years, and often with great success, as this video attests. The key seems to be to keep the puppies (or grown dogs) well hydrated, because they don't like to eat or drink when they have Parvovirus. So Pedialyte for animals (available from the veterinarian, or local pet store), or some other hydrating fluid is given orally throughout the day. Because the dogs likely won't eat or drink voluntarily due to the effects of the virus, most of the time an eyedropper must be used to orally administer such hydrating liquids to small puppies. Or, for larger dogs a 10 cc plastic syringe (without the needle, of course) can be used. Even a simple turkey baster can be used for larger dogs if you can't find a plastic syringe at your local pharmacy. Some people recommend pouring a capsule full of Lactobacillus acidophilus (beneficial digestive microorganism available at any health food store) into the veterinary Pedialyte before administering it to the dog. That's because the beneficial digestive microbes will compete for space in the puppy's tummy with the Parvovirus (i.e., called "competitive inhibition") and will also help prevent some of the diarrhea, as well as help heal the damage to the stomach lining being done by the virus. Some people also recommend trying to feed the dogs with baby food (well strained chicken, for example) in order to get some nourishment into them, since their tummies will not be able to tolerate regular food. Others recommend a commercial product called Nutristat (available online), which is a gel-like paste that can easily be applied to the dog's gum line above the teeth, if he or she won't eat at all. It contains nutrients, electrolytes, fats and protein, and is used to help nourish the dog while eating is problematic due to the virus. Finally, colloidal silver is also administered orally, multiple times throughout the day until the dog's appetite returns and the Parvo symptoms are gone. This can take anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks. For "parvo puppies" in which the disease is caught early, some people administer up to five eyedroppers full of 10 ppm colloidal silver, up to five times a day. And for larger dogs some people use up to five, 10cc plastic syringes full (again, no needle) of colloidal silver, orally, up to five times a day, until the dog's appetite returns and Parvo symptoms are gone. See my video at the following link on how to administer colloidal silver orally, to dogs and other pets: http://www.thesilveredge.com/video-pets-and-colloidal-silver.shtml Colloidal silver is not a "guaranteed" cure for Parvo in dogs, as even veterinary treated dogs often die of Parvo (up to 80% of the time). But the anecdotal evidence for its efficacy is significant, as the example in the above video attests. Parvovirus B19

08:40
Primate erythroparvovirus 1, generally referred to as B19 virus, parvovirus B19 or sometimes erythrovirus B19, was the first known human virus in the family Parvoviridae, genus Erythroparvovirus; it measures only 23–26 nm in diameter. The name is derived from Latin, parvum meaning small, reflecting the fact that B19 ranks among the smallest DNA viruses. B19 virus is most known for causing disease in the pediatric population; however, it can also affect adults. It is the classic cause of the childhood rash called fifth disease or erythema infectiosum, or "slapped cheek syndrome." The virus was discovered by chance in 1975 by Australian virologist Yvonne Cossart. It gained its name because it was discovered in well B19 of a large series of microtiter plates labelled in this way. This video is targeted to blind users. Slapped Cheek Syndrome Symptoms

02:31
Slapped Cheek Syndrome Symptoms Symptoms of slapped cheek syndrome Symptoms of slapped cheek syndrome usually develop within a couple of weeks of being exposed to the virus. Initial symptoms Some people with slapped cheek syndrome won't notice any early symptoms, but most people will have the following symptoms for a few days: a slightly high temperature (fever) of around 38C (100.4F) a runny nose a sore throat a headache an upset stomach feeling generally unwell The infection is most contagious during this initial period. In adults, these symptoms are often accompanied by joint pain and stiffness, which may continue for several weeks or even months after the other symptoms have passed. Slapped cheek rash After a few days, a distinctive bright red rash on both cheeks (the so-called "slapped cheeks") normally appears, although adults may not get this. By the time this rash develops, the condition is no longer contagious. After another few days, a light pink rash may also appear on the chest, stomach, arms and thighs. This often has a raised, lace-like appearance and may be itchy. The rashes will normally fade within a week or two, although occasionally the body rash may come and go for a few weeks after the infection has passed. This can be triggered by exercise, heat, anxiety or stress.

Fifth disease - Medical Definition and Pronunciation

02:01
https://word2speech.com/medical/ Fifth disease Fifth disease: An oddly named disease caused by a virus called parvovirus B 19. (In the pre-vaccination era, fifth disease was frequently the fifth disease that a child contracted.) . Symptoms include low-grade fever, fatigue, a slapped cheeks rash, and a rash over the whole body. While the illness is mild in most children, some children with immune deficiency (such as those with AIDS or leukemia) or with certain blood disorders (such as sickle cell anemia or hemolytic anemia) may become seriously ill with fifth disease. Parvovirus B19 can temporarily decrease or halt the body's production of red blood cells, causing anemia. Moreover, fifth disease is of consequence in many adults. About 80% of adults with fifth disease have joint aches and pains (arthritis) which may become long-term with stiffness in the morning, redness and swelling of the same joints on both sides of the body (a symmetrical arthritis), most commonly involving the knees, fingers, and wrists. Pregnant women (who have not previously had the illness) should avoid contact with patients who have fifth disease. The fifth disease virus can infect the fetus prior to birth. And, while no birth defects have been reported as a result of fifth disease, it can cause the death of the unborn fetus. The risk of fetal death is 5-10% if the mother becomes infected. Fifth disease is also known as erythema infectiosum. For more information, read the article on Fifth Disease. Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis: Clinical Guideline for Diagnosis and Management

01:08:22
In Australia, at least 5,000 children are affected by Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis JIA at any one time. The prevalence is between one and four cases per 1000 children. It is a chronic, autoimmune, inflammatory joint disease and the most common rheumatic disease in children and adolescents. JIA carries the potential for longer term inflammatory activity and complications, leaving a lasting impact on the child's function, growth and quality of life. Accurate and early diagnosis along with appropriate management and referral are essential for maximising patient outcomes and quality of life. With good treatment, most patients with JIA are able to lead an active life. Deaths due to JIA are rare, but the condition may have considerable effects on quality of life because of the psychological impact of long-term illness, the effects it imposes on family life and the side effects of medications used to treat it. It is important that children presenting with JIA are diagnosed early and GPs commence initial management and refer promptly to a paediatric rheumatologist. Because of the relatively low prevalence of JIA in the general population, GPs often have little experience with its diagnosis or management. Guidelines have been developed to fill that gap and reflect the current evidence based approach to managing children with JIA. This program covers the recommendations for the early diagnosis and multidisciplinary management of JIA in the primary care setting. It examines the practice points related to early identification, referral, prevention of complications, minimisation of pain and joint damage and improved quality of life. This program is one of four in the Musculoskeletal Guideline Series. The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has developed national musculoskeletal clinical guidelines for general practitioners and other primary care health professionals for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and osteoporosis. The guidelines are approved by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). Produced by the Rural Health Education Foundation http://www.rhef.com.au/

Vaccine Schedule For Dogs ¿What Vaccines For Dogs Are Compulsory?

03:17
→ http://istheonlinedogtrainer.club ← IT IS RECOMMENDED As with humans, dogs also need to be vaccinated. It is a simple and practical way to protect them against common diseases that can endanger their health and even their very existence. The most important vaccines for dogs are obligatory, not putting them can also suppose an administrative sanction. There are many vaccines for dogs, but only some are compulsory. Many others are recommended and although it seems strange ... there are others that are not even recommended in some cases (in our opinion). We will explain what the vaccination schedule is and what they are for. What vaccines for dogs are compulsory and when they are put? The vaccines mentioned below are mandatory in Spain, although not all of them represent an administrative sanction in case of not having them in place. In most autonomous communities are required so it is advisable to consult your administration or veterinarian to be current. Puppy with a month and a half old: Vaccine of parvovirus, distemper and two polyvalent Puppy with two months: Polyvalent vaccine. Puppy with three months: Polyvalent vaccine (reinforcement) Puppy with four months: Rabies vaccine (usually the microchip is also placed at the same time) Dog with one year: Polyvalent vaccine (reminder) and Rabies vaccine (memory) Each year: Multipurpose vaccine (reminder) and Vaccine of rabies (in some autonomous communities, recall is required every two years, most of them every year). As with everything in medicine and science, the most recent medical advances indicate that some vaccines do not need to be put on an annual basis as a reminder, although given that no exact data have been provided yet, the most advisable course is to stick to the calendar of current vaccination. Each country has its own vaccination calendar and obligations. It is the owner of each dog who should be informed by his veterinarian of what vaccines he needs to acquire. What happens if I do not vaccinate my dog? If you have a puppy and do not vaccinate it, or an adult dog without vaccination, not only are you exposing it to a huge risk of contracting diseases that can be lethal, but you are also putting at risk other dogs in your community. Your dog can be a carrier of some disease and spread it to another dog that is in the process of being vaccinated or has a weak immune system. If you really care about your dog, if it's part of your family, you can not look for excuses. You must have your dog properly vaccinated since it is the only way to have it properly prevented from dangerous diseases. If you have a puppy that has not been vaccinated, do not mix it with other dogs or take it out on the street. The simple urination of an infected dog, cat or rat can infect your puppy and kill him. It is not a joke, you have to be very cautious when you are so small and vaccinate them when appropriate. Your veterinarian can advise you better than anyone about vaccines, their effects, prices and above all, vaccination schedule. → http://istheonlinedogtrainer.club ← CLICK FOR MORE INFO

Probably the most common reasons you will have to give injections to your pet would be to administer insulin to manage diabetes, allergy injections to help build your pets immunity against specific antigens, or subcutaneous fluids to help treat dehydration as is often necessary when managing pets with kidney disease. The principles of administering the subcutaneous injections are all the same-the key is to lift or, as we like to say, tent up the skin, introduce the needle at about a 45 degree angle all the way through the skin, then depress the plunger.

Poor Man's Colloidal Silver

33:48
Silver --An Ancient Remedy Silver is a powerful, natural prophylactic/antibiotic, used for thousands of years. Ancient Greeks lined their eating and drinking vessels with silver, as did many other cultures throughout the world. ref: 5 Pioneers of the American West would put a silver dollar in a jug of milk to keep it fresh without refrigeration. ref: 6 Did you ever wonder why silverware was made from silver? One of the properties of silver is that it kills bacteria on contact in six minutes or less. ref: 7 It may be that gold and silver were first used as valued currency because of their medical properties. Dr. Robert O. Becker, author of The Body Electric, recognized a correlation between low silver levels and sickness. He said silver deficiency was responsible for the improper functioning of the immune system. Dr. Becker's experiments conclude that silver works on the full spectrum of pathogens without any side effects or damage to the body. He also states that silver does more than kill disease-causing organisms. It also causes major growth stimulation of injured tissues. Burn patients and even elderly patients notice more rapid healing. And he discovered that all cancer cells could change back to normal cells. All strains of pathogens resistant to other antibiotics are killed by silver. What is Colloidal Silver? Colloidal Silver is the result of an electromagnetic process that pulls microscopic particles from a larger piece of silver into a liquid, such as water. ref: 8 These microscopic particles can more easily penetrate and travel throughout the body. Colloidal silver works as catalyst, disabling the enzyme that all one-celled bacteria, fungi and viruses use for their metabolism. Unlike with antibiotics, resistant strains have never been known to develop. In fact, antibiotics are only effective against perhaps a dozen forms of bacteria and fungi, but never viruses. Because no known disease-causing organism can live in the presence of even minute traces of the chemical element of metallic silver, colloidal silver is effective against more than 650 different disease-causing pathogens, ref: 9 as well as cancer! ref: 10 You'll also find colloidal silver very handy in the garden since it can be used against bacterial, fungal and viral attacks on plants. Simply spray diluted Colloidal Silver on the leaves, and add to soil water. It would appear highly unlikely that even germ warfare agents could survive an encounter with colloidal silver, since viruses like E Bola, Hanta, or even the dreaded "flesh-eating bacteria" are, in the end, merely hapless viruses and bacteria. Finally, colloidal silver is non-toxic, making it safe for both children and adults, as well as pets. ref: 11, 12 In short; anything bigger than a one-cell animal seems to like it. Nor does one have to worry about that FDA (Food and Drug Administration) fox being put in charge of this home remedy hen house. Colloidal silver is a pre-1938 healing modality, making it exempt from FDA jurisdiction under the grandfather clause. ref: 13 Some Uses of Colloidal Silver These are some of the 650 diseases and conditions that colloidal silver was used to treat successfully in the past. This list in no way should be construed or relied upon as medical advice. Always consult your health care professional if a serious condition exists. acne, eczema, psoriasis, allergies, fibrosis, rheumatism, appendicitis, gastritis, scarlet fever arthritis, gonorrhea, septicemia, athlete's foot, herpes, shingles, bladder inflammation, impetigo, skin cancer , blood parasites, indigestion, staph and strep, boils, keratitis, infections, bubonic plague, leprosy, syphilis, burns, leukemia, thyroid conditions, cancer, lupus, tonsillitis, candidiasis, lymphagitis, toxemia, chilblains, Lymes disease, trachoma, cholera, malaria, dermatitis, colitis, meningitis, warts, conjunctivitis, neurasthenia, whooping cough, cystitis, pneumonia, yeast infections, dermatitis, pleurisy, stomach ulcers, diabetes, prostate problems, tuberculosis, dysentery, pruritus ani, --in other words, bacterial, fungal, and viral infections. It had also been used against canine parvovirus and other veterinary diseases.

What to add to your Medicine Cabinet and Heal Yourself

24:32
Thank you for watching! For more information about Candace Jones check out her site: http://www.cjssweetlife.co or Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/candacejoneshc Top Items to add to your Cabinet: Raw Local Honey Apple Cider Vinegar Elderberry Syrup Garlic Ginger Turmeric Tea- Chamomile, Ginger, Dandelion, Lemon Oregano Oil Neti Pot Best Essential Oils to Add: Lemon Tea Tree Ginger Clove Eucalyptus Peppermint Cinnamon How to tackle Sinus, Cold, Cough, Flu, Headache, and Sore Throat Symptoms 1) Take a shot of Apple Cider Vinegar- This is my go to way to clear my sinuses and to clear any congestion build up in my head. This is pretty much an instant relief. Also you can make a drink to sip on throughout the day: Try a capful to a good tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, water, honey or apple juice, cinnamon or ginger ACV is amazing all over as it is very alkalizing to the body. Its also a natural probiotic being a fermented drink. This will help in improving your gut flora. Which, we know that our immune system is mainly within the gut, this has to do with the presence of good bacteria. When this bacteria is cut out by antibiotics, the bad bacteria like yeast tends to take over and feed. Nonetheless, fermented foods and probiotics are key, along with eating right of course. 2) Natural Antibiotic Lemonade- Juice of 4 lemons 2 tablespoons of raw local honey 2 cloves of garlic 1 cup of water Blend together and Enjoy! The combination of lemon, honey, and garlic is a strong and powerful antibiotic, antiviral, anti fungal, anti- everything. :) Enjoy any time you are needing a health boost but especially when you feel something coming down as this will get you well faster!!!! 3) Elderberry Syrup- The amazing properties of Elderberry have been known ever since Hippocrates. It is a strong anti-inflammatory as it has more flavoids than any other berry known. Its also antiviral and helps with cold, flu, sinus, nerve pain, chronic fatigue, inflammation in the body, and allergy symptoms. You can make a syrup at home or you can simply find the syrup at your local health food store. For my kiddo: to boost his immune system especially if I find him indoors with a bunch of other kids I will put elderberrry syrup, echinacea, and a natural immune booster that has zinc, colloidal silver, and olive leaf extract. I will mix these all with some fresh pressed orange or apple juice. EarAches or Infections: Ear aches are common especially with children. Most of the times when you go to the doctor they will treat it as a bacterial infection when it is a viral infection. They will automatically prescribe antibiotics which kill your good flora and honestly does no good.... unless you really really need them. Unfortunately, our society has overused antibiotics. If you eat meat, most animals are treated with antibiotics to combat the harsh environments they live in. Here's how to treat an ear infection- put 2 drops of garlic oil in your ear 4) Teas- I love herbal teas as a natural immune booster and as a remedy to all sorts of ailments you may experience. Try Ginger Tea Chamomile Dandelion Peppermint Lemon or Citrus or any herbal remedy that speaks to you! Turmeric Tea or Golden Milk: Turmeric is arguably the most powerful herb on the planet. Its also called Curcumin can literally replace many medications on the market today. It is an anti-inflammatory, anti- depressant, chemo aid, anti-coagulant (asprin), pain killer, arthritis soother, ibs healer, natural steroid, and improves your cholesterol. The main problem with taking so many medications are the side effects... sometimes you have to take a medication for the side effect! Turmeric (and everything already mentioned) helps without any side effects!

Inside the Superhuman World of the Iceman

39:44
Wim Hof first caught the attention of scientists when he proved he was able to use meditation to stay submerged in ice for 1 hour and 53 minutes without his core body temperature changing. Since then, he’s climbed Mount Everest in his shorts, resisted altitude sickness, completed a marathon in the Namib Desert with no water and proven under a laboratory setting that he’s able to influence his autonomic nervous system and immune system at will. Almost everything Wim has done was previously thought to be impossible - but he’s not a freak of nature. To demonstrate that any human can learn his methods, Wim offered to teach Matt Shea and Daisy-May Hudson to climb a freezing cold mountain in their shorts without getting cold. But when Matt and Daisy signed up for the training, they had no idea that the so-called Iceman was planning to lead them on a psychedelic journey across Europe that circled the chasm between science, spirituality and mystery. More Than an Apple a Day: Preventing Our Most Common Diseases

01:02:03
This is Dr. Greger's 2013 live presentation. Dr. Greger has scoured the world's scholarly literature on clinical nutrition and developed this brand-new live presentation on the latest in cutting-edge research on how a healthy diet can affect some of our most common medical conditions. Subscribe to Dr. Greger’s free nutrition newsletter at https://www.nutritionfacts.org/subscribe and get a free recipe from his new HOW NOT TO DIE COOKBOOK. (All proceeds Dr. Greger receives from the sales of his books, DVDs, and speaking engagements go to support the 501c3 nonprofit that runs NutritionFacts.org.) In my annual nutrition review last year, Uprooting the Leading Causes of Death (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/uprooting-the-leading-causes-of-death/), I explored the role diet may play in preventing, arresting, and even reversing our top 15 killers. Actually, if you recall, the top 16. Since side effects from prescription drugs kill an estimated 100,000 Americans a year, the sixth leading cause of death may actually be doctors. And that's just from adverse drug reactions. Add in medical mistakes (which the Institute of Medicine estimates kills at least 44,000 Americans) and that brings "health"care up to our country's third leading cause of death. Throw in hospital-acquired infections, and we're talking maybe 187,000 Americans dead every year (and millions injured) by medical care. The best way to avoid the adverse effects of medical and surgical tests and treatments is not to avoid doctors, but to avoid getting sick in the first place. This year I thought I'd run through the top dozen reasons people visit their doctors to highlight some of the latest research in hopes of moving my colleagues and me lower down the list of common killers. So you can more easily navigate through the menu of diseases I cover, this presentation is also available on DVD through my website (http://www.drgreger.org/DVDs) or Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/node/index.html/?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&linkCode=ur2&me=A1QZTUS5K8MU75&tag=httpwwwdrgreg-20). If you want to share copies with others I have a five for $40 (http://www.drgreger.org/DVDs) special. All proceeds from the sales of all my books, DVDs, and presentations all go to charity. Have a question for Dr. Greger about this video? The Anti-Vaccination Movement: Replacing Science with Superstition

01:06:14
Dr. Greg Forbes, GRCC Biology Professor, presents that more than 2 centuries have passed since the first vaccines were used to prevent disease and the disabilities and death associated with these diseases. However, even after the prevention of many millions of deaths, vaccine skeptics and vaccine conspiracy theories appear to be increasing in frequency even in the light of a proponderous of scientific fact validating the efficacy and safety of vaccines. This presentation will provide an overview of how vaccines provide protection from disease, how vaccines are manufactured and will review the claims from the anti-vaccine skeptics. These claims will then be addressed utilizing the body of scientific knowledge acquired over the last 2 centuries as well as contemporary research. A comparison of the anti-vaccine movement will then be made to similar anti-science beliefs such as climate change denial, anti-evolutionism and young Earth geology.

Suspense: Tree of Life / The Will to Power / Overture in Two Keys

01:32:25
Alfred Hitchcock's first thriller was his third silent film The Lodger (1926), a suspenseful Jack the Ripper story. His next thriller was Blackmail (1929), his and Britain's first sound film. Of Hitchcock's fifteen major features made between 1925 and 1935, only six were suspense films, the two mentioned above plus Murder!, Number Seventeen, The Man Who Knew Too Much, and The 39 Steps. From 1935 on, however, most of his output was thrillers. One of the earliest spy films was Fritz Lang's Spies (1928), the director's first independent production, with an anarchist international conspirator and criminal spy character named Haghi (Rudolf Klein-Rogge), who was pursued by good-guy Agent No. 326 (Willy Fritsch) (aka Det. Donald Tremaine, English version) -- this film anticipated the James Bond films of the future. Another was Greta Garbo's portrayal of the real-life, notorious, seductive German double agent code-named Mata Hari (Gertrud Zelle) in World War I in Mata Hari (1932), who performed a pearl-draped dance to entice French officers to divulge their secrets. The chilling German film M (1931) directed by Fritz Lang, starred Peter Lorre (in his first film role) as a criminal deviant who preys on children. The film's story was based on the life of serial killer Peter Kurten (known as the 'Vampire of Düsseldorf'). Edward Sutherland's crime thriller Murders in the Zoo (1933) from Paramount starred Lionel Atwill as a murderous and jealous zoologist. Other British directors, such as Walter Forde, Victor Saville, George A. Cooper, and even the young Michael Powell made more thrillers in the same period; Forde made nine, Vorhaus seven between 1932 and 1935, Cooper six in the same period, and Powell the same. Hitchcock was following a strong British trend in his choice of genre. Notable examples of Hitchcock's early British suspense-thriller films include The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934), his first spy-chase/romantic thriller, The 39 Steps (1935) with Robert Donat handcuffed to Madeleine Carroll and The Lady Vanishes (1938). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suspense_thriller

The Great Gildersleeve: A Date with Miss Del Rey / Breach of Promise / Dodging a Process Server

01:25:15
The Great Gildersleeve (1941--1957), initially written by Leonard Lewis Levinson, was one of broadcast history's earliest spin-off programs. Built around Throckmorton Philharmonic Gildersleeve, a character who had been a staple on the classic radio situation comedy Fibber McGee and Molly, first introduced on Oct. 3, 1939, ep. #216. The Great Gildersleeve enjoyed its greatest success in the 1940s. Actor Harold Peary played the character during its transition from the parent show into the spin-off and later in a quartet of feature films released at the height of the show's popularity. On Fibber McGee and Molly, Peary's Gildersleeve was a pompous windbag who became a consistent McGee nemesis. "You're a haa-aa-aa-aard man, McGee!" became a Gildersleeve catchphrase. The character was given several conflicting first names on Fibber McGee and Molly, and on one episode his middle name was revealed as Philharmonic. Gildy admits as much at the end of "Gildersleeve's Diary" on the Fibber McGee and Molly series (Oct. 22, 1940). He soon became so popular that Kraft Foods—looking primarily to promote its Parkay margarine spread — sponsored a new series with Peary's Gildersleeve as the central, slightly softened and slightly befuddled focus of a lively new family. Premiering on August 31, 1941, The Great Gildersleeve moved the title character from the McGees' Wistful Vista to Summerfield, where Gildersleeve now oversaw his late brother-in-law's estate and took on the rearing of his orphaned niece and nephew, Marjorie (originally played by Lurene Tuttle and followed by Louise Erickson and Mary Lee Robb) and Leroy Forester (Walter Tetley). The household also included a cook named Birdie. Curiously, while Gildersleeve had occasionally spoken of his (never-present) wife in some Fibber episodes, in his own series the character was a confirmed bachelor. In a striking forerunner to such later television hits as Bachelor Father and Family Affair, both of which are centered on well-to-do uncles taking in their deceased siblings' children, Gildersleeve was a bachelor raising two children while, at first, administering a girdle manufacturing company ("If you want a better corset, of course, it's a Gildersleeve") and then for the bulk of the show's run, serving as Summerfield's water commissioner, between time with the ladies and nights with the boys. The Great Gildersleeve may have been the first broadcast show to be centered on a single parent balancing child-rearing, work, and a social life, done with taste and genuine wit, often at the expense of Gildersleeve's now slightly understated pomposity. Many of the original episodes were co-written by John Whedon, father of Tom Whedon (who wrote The Golden Girls), and grandfather of Deadwood scripter Zack Whedon and Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog). The key to the show was Peary, whose booming voice and facility with moans, groans, laughs, shudders and inflection was as close to body language and facial suggestion as a voice could get. Peary was so effective, and Gildersleeve became so familiar a character, that he was referenced and satirized periodically in other comedies and in a few cartoons. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Gildersleeve
