http://www.dr-schutz.com/en/scratchnomore/snm/products/ One of the most frequent causes of damage to floor coverings like hardwood floors or LVT design floors is not using furniture glides or the wrong glides like felt glides or rubber glides. This video shows you the advantages of the new Scratchnomore system from Dr. Schutz in comparison with conventional furniture gliders. Felt glides quickly clog up with sand and seriously scratch the floor. Beside of that the felt becomes hard when in contact with moisture, for example when the floor is mopped, and is therefore even more damaging to the surface of the floor covering. Rubber glides are more stable than felt and not sensitive to moisture, but they cannot absorb or cushion hard particles, like sand and hair. Therefore, despite better adhesion and easier handling, in the end they do similar damage to simple felt glides. The soft fibres of Scratchnomore absorb the sand and thus protect the floor from damage and scratches. Due to the length and consistency of the fibre material, the pressure from the chair leg is cushioned and the floor remains undamaged. Scratchnomore furniture glides are available for all types of furniture and chairs. They protect hard and textile floor coverings. Cutting Bar Stool Legs To Counter Height Stools One of the joys, and sometimes frustrations with kitchen remodeling is trying the perfect height stool to match your brand new kitchen counters. As a carpenter I’m often asked if I would be willing to undertake cutting bar stools down to counter height stools. I always say yes, since its an easy task when you use a cutting jig. Bar Counter vs. Kitchen Counter Heights Many bar heights are 42” and most kitchen counter heights are around 36,” and some are even shorter if they have a 4” skirt trim supporting a granite peninsula of overhang. Many stools in stores and catalogs are often at that bar-stool height, which are too high to use comfortably with kitchen counter overhangs. If you can’t find a kitchen height stool or simply fall in love with a bar height stool and MUST HAVE IT! Then you’re going to have to cut it down. Cutting Bar Stool To Fit Under A Kitchen Counter Trimming bar stool legs down to fit under an existing kitchen counter is a great DIY opportunity to show off your shop skills and one that should take no more than a half hour per stool and some basic tools. Things You Will Need • Plywood, pine or other wood material • Some screws • Table, power or handsaw • [Note – you can purchase wood at a lumberyard already the width you need and forego needing a table saw. • 5 Clamps • Pull saw • Sand paper • Stain marker or markers • Felt or a floor glides Consistent, Clean Cuts In order to get consistent and clean cuts when cutting bar stool legs, you will need to rely on a cutting jig. Put away the pencil and make a cutting jig which will serve as a guide for you saw. Jigs help keep you honest and ensure that all four legs are cut at the same exact height – There’s no going back a second time to fix this. Making A Cutting Jig I used scrap plywood and ripped it to the height that I wanted to cut off the stool legs. In my situation, I ripped the plywood to 5” wide. Once ripped I then cut it into 3 pieces to make my cutting jig. The “legs,” or long part of my jig is an arbitrary size, I left it long to allow the saw the rest on the edge and use it as a guide. The short part of the jig is cut to the thickness of the table leg. I also added a long clamping strip which I found helpful for holding the jig, and stool still when cutting. This clamp strip can be clamped or screwed down to the workbench. Note: Some chairs and stools have angles or flares in the leg. If desired, the small part of the cutting jig can be attached to the two “legs” at an angle to better fit the leg flare. Make a Support Jig I used cut offs of the 5” ripped plywood and half-lapped them to make supports or “stilts,” for the legs once I cut them down. The support stilts are clamped to the legs after cutting them down, and keep the chair from wobbling or falling down while you’re dealing with the next cut. You will need 3 supports to cut one chair. Note – the rear legs on my stool were wider than the front. To compensate for that thickness I used 3 pieces of ¼” Luan plywood to fill in the space between the stool leg and the cutting jig. [see photo] Cutting Bar Stool Legs To Counter Height Steps 1. Place the chair or stool on a level flat surface 2. Slide the cutting guide jig onto the leg 3. Clamp the jig at the end of the legs, which creates a pinching pressure and holds it tight. 4. Clamp down the clamping strip 5. Use a pull saw and cut the leg 6. Remove clamping guide and apply a support stilt with a clamp 7. Repeat this step three more times. 8. Use sand paper to break the sharp edges and flatten any irregularities 9. Apply protective felt or chair glide pads to protect the floor. 10. Use a marker or stain pen to touch up any scratches Summary Using a cutting jig is the BEST away to ensure quality, accurate and consistent cutting of chair legs. Take the time to make a jig and do it right the first time!

After the success of the UK Penny Floor Project I wanted to have a go at a new project, one ive been wanting to try for ages.....a bottle cap table. I sourced a table from well known furniture company and bought some bottle caps from eBay. I used kitchen work surface edging to edge the table and GlassCast epoxy resin as a top coat. So over the weekend i set about putting my project into action and by Monday morning the table was done and ready to use. I filmed the whole process and have put together this little how-to tutorial video which I hope you will enjoy. A number of people asked if I have a video on this chair. I do, but it isn't free: https://thewoodwhispererguild.com/product/gg-adirondack-chair/ Mother Nature always wins. So when you make outdoor furniture you have two choices: commit to a regular maintenance schedule or come to terms with the weathered gray look. Personally, I don't like the weathered look so I generally try to make my furniture look "new" for as long as possible. An easy thing you can do to help the cause is to prevent moisture from entering into the legs. Usually, those legs result in end grain being in direct contact with the ground which is a recipe for rot, decay, and eventual failure. This simple trick requires nothing more than epoxy and masking tape. West System Epoxy is expensive, but the 1 gallon size with pumps will last you for many years! West System Epoxy - http://amzn.to/2xOysUt Painter's Tape - http://amzn.to/2xPxGqr Of course, this isn't a cure-all for all outdoor furniture but it's at least one more layer of defense against Mother Nature's wrath! Gas Lift Removal Instructions To replace the gas lift on your bar stool or kitchen stool, please follow these instructions: 1. You need to remove the seat top along with the stem attached with the footrest. You do this by putting pressure on the base when its stood up and holding the lift lever up. You then need to hold both sides of the seat top and pull hard to separate the stool. (please note - assistance may be required) 2. Now you need to remove the gas lift section from the base. You do this by lying the stool down so you have access to the bottom of the stool. Now you should see the bottom of the gas lift coming through the base. Knock the bottom of the gas lift until it comes loose from the base. 3. Insert your new gas lift and push the rest of the stool back on top. http://www.amazon.com/Felt-Pads/dp/B00JPVPN20/ Here is the proper way of installing felt pads to your chairs, tables, chests, bar stools, book shelves or any other furniture you might have that slide on top of your hard wood floors, laminate floors or vinyl floor. Above is the link to the felt pad combo pack I purchased on Amazon. Before I start I would like to go over a few important points: 1. For best practices I recommend changing your felt pads every 12 months, Now, on items moved frequently like sofas, chairs or tables it's best to change every 6 months (This pic is of one of my dinning room chairs after only 12 months and you can see the felt is almost warn off, Not Good!) 2. If your floor is hand scraped or has a ruff finish I would recommend getting felt pads that come with a nail. They are about four times the cost as the self stick felt pads that I am demonstrating today, but when it comes to your floor, better safe than sorry. 3. Make sure you are diligent in checking the felt pads often, you wouldn't want one of those suckers to come off and scratch your floor. 4. I also recommend using felt pads on table top items such as lamps, picture frames, TV's or statues. This will keep your Tables from also getting scratched. Okay, so now that we have that out of the way, lets begin on the proper way of installing felt pads on your chair leg: Step #1 - Take off old felt pads (if you have them installed already, that is.) Wow! how dirty is that? and that's only after 12. Step #2 - Clean off surface with a fast drying solvent like paint thinner or reducer. I did it twice just for good measure. I also went over it with a double fine steel wool to clean up anything else left behind. Take a look! The surface is clean now. Step #3 - Make sure the surface is completely dry then peel off the backing on the sticky part of the felt pad. Step #4 - Place in the center of the surface and press firmly for best adhesion. There you have it! I'm good for the next 6 months or so... Maybe my next project should be to refinish these chairs. Thanks for watching, Make sure you give this video a thumbs up!!

Let the gains begin (and keep coming) here - http://athleanx.com/x/nonstop-gains Subscribe to this channel here - http://bit.ly/2b0coMW If you are like many, no matter what you’ve done for your calf workouts you just haven’t been able to get your stubborn calves to grow. In this video, I’m going to continue the popular “Sore in 6 Minutes” series and bring you a quick calf workout that you can do to not only spark growth from a muscle group you may have long ago written off, but leave you with a soreness that will serve to remind you how capable of getting them to respond to your training they really are. This calf workout consists of just two calve exercises. One of them is going to target the gastroc and the other is going to target the soleus. A little anatomy lesson to clarify the difference between the two. The gastrocnemius is a muscle that crosses the knee and the ankle and is much more effectively targeted when the knee is kept straight because of this. In this workout, we are going to use a variation of a standing calf raise to help us nail this muscle sufficiently. The other muscle group that makes up the calves as we know them is the soleus. Since this muscle doesn’t cross the knee and resides solely on the back of the shin, we can effectively target it by performing our calf exercises with a bent knee. The first exercise in this calf workout will do just that, and will do so in a very intense way. To start, kneel down on the floor with a small mat or pad under your knees. Anchor your feet under the crossbar of a bench (as shown) or any other piece of equipment or home furniture that is sturdy enough to hold you down as you perform the exercise. As you will see in the demonstration, the positioning of the feet is critical to getting this exercise correct and to feeling it in the calves while minimizing what you feel in the hamstrings. As you launch your body away from your heels, you will feel your feet plantarflex to stabilize the weight of your body as you move away from the bench. This is a strong spontaneous contraction of the soleus that will really put a demand on the muscles and force them to work harder than they ever have before. Do this for one minute and immediately stand up and proceed to the second and final exercise of this calf workout. Grab a single dumbbell and head over to a small three or four inch step or box. Start by pointing your toes up on the edge and get a big stretch on the calves. You want to make sure you now lean slightly forward and drive your knees back into full extension to ensure the load is being directed towards the gastroc rather than the soleus. With the lean forward and the dumbbell held down and in front of you, use your other hand to stabilize your body against the rack of machine or a wall at home. Perform straight calf raises in a one and a half rep style. Here you want to come half way up, lower slowly fighting the eccentric and then come back up all the way before lowering down slowly again. This is one rep. Keep performing your reps in this fashion for another minute. From here, you will keep alternating the two exercises until all 6 minutes are up or you give into the pain (whichever comes first!). Each time you do the calf raise, change the position of your toes and heels. Point your toes out on the second time through and in on the third time through. If you must incorporate a bit of a spot on the soleus launcher exercise, it is ok to use a physioball to take away some of the weight of your body and assist you. Try this quick but effective calf workout and monitor your soreness in the next 24 to 48 hours. Guarantee that you will be sore, but as always, this will be the good kind of soreness that ensures that you are hitting your muscles as intended. For a complete workout program that will help you to build muscle and become more athletic in the process, head to http://athleanx.com and get the ATHLEAN-X Training System. Do you need to paint metal patio chairs and get them looking like new? Maybe you're cheap like me and hate buying expensive outdoor furniture. Hi Friend, this is Jeff from Home Repair Tutor and this video tackles how to refurbish metal patio chairs in less than one day. It took me about 2 hours to get our chairs looking awesome. You'll need to scrape the metal with a wire brush and then use a random orbital sander. The sander helps smooth out the old paint. I used 60 grit then 120 grit. After the sanding your wash down the chair with water and a sponge. Let the chair dry and move onto the painting. I used Rust Oleum oil rubbed bronze spray paint with primer. Watch the video for all the details. Use a table saw to rip the butcher block down the center. 2. Use the gauge block on the table saw to set your length and a crosscut guide to cut the butcher block to length. 3. Use a hand plane to ease out the edges. 4. Use a portable drill press to make holes in each corner of the butcher-block shelving pieces. 5. Sand down each piece of shelving. 6. For a finish, use a wipe-on polyurethane. Let it sit for about 3 hours, then put on a second coat. 7. Lightly sand down the black pipes to remove any residue. 8. Use spray-on lacquer to finish the pipes. Be sure to do this in an open area and use a mask. 9. With the pipes all dry, begin to assemble the shelf by placing the pipes through the holes on each side and tying them into the next piece using the couplings. 10. Snug up the connections with an open-end wrench.
