Is Whole Wheat Bread Good or Bad For Diabetes Download Diabetes Management Book: http://bit.ly/2g0NDAH Hello, I'm Ty Mason from TheDiabetesCouncil.com, researcher, writer and I have type 2 diabetes. Today I'm going to answer the question, is whole wheat bread good for diabetes. But before we get into that, make sure you download my free diabetes management book which also includes a diabetes grocery shopping guide (foods to eat and avoid). As a backdrop to this video, you may want to look at our videos on “Rye Bread and Diabetes” and “Wheat and Diabetes” for reference material. When we talk about “whole wheat” we are basically saying that the whole grain of wheat is being used to make something. The grain is made up of 3 parts, the endosperm, the germ and the bran. The endosperm makes up about 83 percent of each kernel. The bran makes up about 14.5% and the germ 2.5%. Breads, crackers, pasta, flour, cereal, condiments, beer, just a short list of how we use wheat. It is hard to find processed foods without some type of wheat product in it. Wheat has been around since the cradle of civilization. Wheat is not bad, but has changed. The endosperm is the starchy part of wheat. When white flour is made, the endosperm is all of the grain that is used. So much of the fiber and nutrients are lost because the bran and germ house the bulk of that material. So because whole wheat bread has all this stuff in tact it must be better for you than white bread, right? Not exactly. If you have seen many of our videos, you know I am a firm believer in the glycemic load as a measure for whether or not a food might be good or bad for diabetes. Let’s compare whole wheat with white bread on that basis. Whole wheat has a GI of 69 and GL of 9. Both are at the upper level of low on the scales. White bread has a GI of 73 and GL of 10. Not a great deal of difference is there? The main difference is seen in whole GRAIN bread where the GI is 51 and the GL is 7. So is whole wheat bread good for diabetes? It is, but not as good as whole grain bread and not really any worse than white bread. Breads, like many other foods, must be eaten in moderation. I hope this answered your question is whole wheat bread good or bad for diabetes. Don’t forget to get your diabetes management book. Let me know if you have any other diabetes related questions.

Is Rye Bread Good or Bad For Diabetes Download Diabetes Management Book: http://bit.ly/2g0NDAH Hello, I'm Ty Mason from TheDiabetesCouncil.com, researcher, writer and I have type 2 diabetes. Today I'm going to answer the question, is rye bread good for diabetes. But before we get into that, make sure you download my free diabetes management book which also includes a diabetes grocery shopping guide (foods to eat and avoid) by clicking the link: http://bit.ly/2g0NDAH If you have watched any of our other videos, you know when you see a starchy food like any bread, pasta, grain, etc. we are talking about carbohydrates. So I want to give you just a brief lesson on how carbohydrates affect those with diabetes before we answer the question about rye bread. I searched several books and sites to find a concise, accurate discussion on this topic. The Harvard School of Public Health had a great article on the topic, here is a portion of it. “When people eat a food containing carbohydrates, the digestive system breaks down the digestible ones into sugar, which enters the blood. As blood sugar levels rise, the pancreas produces insulin, a hormone that prompts cells to absorb blood sugar for energy or storage. As cells absorb blood sugar, levels in the bloodstream begin to fall. When this happens, the pancreas start making glucagon, a hormone that signals the liver to start releasing stored sugar. This interplay of insulin and glucagon ensure that cells throughout the body, and especially in the brain, have a steady supply of blood sugar. Carbohydrate metabolism is important in the development of type 2 diabetes, which occurs when the body can’t make enough insulin or can’t properly use the insulin it makes.” So you see why carbs are so important. What we are looking for are foods low in carbs OR in carbs that our body doesn’t digest, I call these pass through carbs. The fiber content in whole grains “pass through” are not digested and help keep you regular. So, what about rye bread? Rye is a cereal. It resembles wheat but is longer and different in color. It is difficult to separate the germ and bran from the endosperm of rye. This makes most rye bread “whole grain” and results in a large quantity of nutrients, in contrast to refined wheat flour. Whether rye bread is good for you depends on the actual ingredients. Rye is a very healthy and nutritious cereal grain packed full of nutrients and health benefits. It is a grain similar to wheat, and like wheat, whole grain rye is much healthier than refined. Is rye bread good for diabetes? Yes it, just be sure to look at the ingredients. Whole grain rye bread is very low in carbs with virtually zero sugars. I hope this answered your question rye bread good or bad for diabetes. Don’t forget to get your diabetes management book by clicking the link: http://bit.ly/2g0NDAH Let me know if you have any other diabetes related questions.

What Is Ezekiel Bread and Is It Healthy?

02:36
Subscribe to our free science-based videos: http://bit.ly/anvideos In contrast to most commercial breads - which consist primarily of refined wheat or pulverized whole wheat, plus added sugar - Ezekiel bread is made of several different types of grains and legumes, and no added sugar. But the biggest benefit of Ezekiel bread is not just its blend of ingredients, but rather that its ingredients are sprouted first. Sprouting, which is soaking the grains in water and allowing them to germinate, causes a number of biochemical reactions in the grain. This has two huge benefits: It increases the amount of healthy nutrients, and reduces the amount of harmful anti-nutrients in the grain. STUDIES: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17497874, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11474896 Studies show that sprouting wheat may lead to significant increases in soluble fiber, folate, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Beta-Carotene. STUDY: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2692609 Sprouting also partially breaks down the starch, which leaves sprouted grains with slightly less carbohydrate. Sprouting grains can also increase their content of the amino acid lysine, which is a building block of protein. Combined with the addition of legumes, this increases the protein quality of Ezekiel bread somewhat. Sprouted grains also have lower amounts of anti-nutrients, which are substances that inhibit the absorption of certain beneficial nutrients. Phytic Acid is a substance found in grains and many other foods. It can bind minerals like Zinc, Calcium, Magnesium and Iron and prevent them from being absorbed. Enzyme inhibitors are present in seeds, which protect them from spontaneously germinating but may also make the nutrients in them harder to access. Sprouting inactivates some of them. Sprouting also reduces the amount of gluten in the grain, a protein that many people are sensitive to. I should point out that it still contains gluten though, so Ezekiel bread is out of the question for people with celiac disease or strong gluten sensitivity. So there you have it, if you’re not on a carb restricted diet and not gluten sensitive, then Ezekiel bread can be a healthier choice to commercial bread. But remember at the end of the day, Ezekiel bread is still bread. For optimal nutrition, you may be better to cut down on bread and other processed foods altogether. Breads: Whole Wheat Vs. Whole Grain White Bread - Diabetes Center for Children at CHOP

00:31
Choosing breads can be confusing. Here, Kelly and Megan, registered dietitians at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, explain what the best option is by comparing 100% whole wheat bread to whole grain white bread.
5 Healthy Alternatives to Conventional Wheat Bread

02:55
https://authoritynutrition.com/ In this video we're looking at some convenient and healthy alternatives to bread. There are recipe links in the description below. 1. Ezekiel Bread Ezekiel bread is a really healthy bread made with several types of sprouted grains and legumes. The grains are allowed to sprout before processing, which makes the end product much more nutritious and easily digestible. It also contains no added sugar, but it does still contain gluten. So if you are sensitive to gluten, Ezekiel bread is not the best option for you. 2. Oopsie Bread Oopsie bread is one of the simplest and most popular low-carb breads. It can be made from only eggs, cream cheese and salt, although some recipes add more ingredients. It's quite easy to make, and delicious as a bun for burgers or served with toppings like you would toast. 3. Rye Bread This bread is made from rye, a type of grain that is related to wheat. It is darker and denser than regular bread, as well as much higher in fiber. But this also gives it a stronger, more unique flavor that may be an acquired taste. Some rye breads are a mixed blend of rye and wheat, so they are a little lighter and have a mild, sweet flavor. But keep in mind that rye bread still contains some gluten. 4. Corn Tortillas Tortillas can be made with either wheat or corn, but corn tortillas are higher in fiber and gluten-free, making them a great option for people who are sensitive to gluten. You can use corn tortillas in sandwiches, wraps, burgers, pizzas or simply with toppings like vegetables and cheese. It's also easy to make corn tortillas yourself because they contain only two ingredients: water and a Mexican flour called Masa. 5. Lettuce and Leafy Greens Big-leafed greens like iceberg lettuce or romaine lettuce are also a great substitute for bread or wraps. The large leaf can be used as a wrap to hold everything together, while you fill it with toppings like meat or veggies. They are extremely fresh and dramatically lower in calories than bread-based wraps. Now if you want to try make any of these wheat bread alternatives, you can find links to a bunch of different recipes in the video description. As you can see there are tasty and nutritious alternatives to regular wheat bread. Making the change shouldn't be difficult, but it will probably be a bit more time consuming at first. So experiment with these and find the one you enjoy eating and that fits into your lifestyle. What is the best thing to eat before bed? Do you gain weight if you eat before bed? How long should you wait to go to sleep after eating? Six Snacks You Can Eat Before Bed to Cure Diabetes DIABETES treatment includes controlling your diet to avoid blood sugar levels spiking, which can cause damage to your body. A 2003 study published in "Diabetes Care" investigated the impact of snack composition on nightly blood sugars in adults with Type 1 diabetes. The researchers concluded that bedtime snacks consisting of a carbohydrate and protein worked best in preventing low blood sugars when the bedtime blood sugar was less than 126 mg/dL. But the wrong kind of snack can actually make things worse. Instead of high-carb fare like chips, “aim for a bedtime snack of protein plus carbohydrate. Cereal and Milk Most bedtime snacks contain about 15 to 30 g of carbohydrate, or two servings of a carbohydrate-containing food, and a serving of protein. It is not quite understood why protein helps to prevent nightly hypoglycemia, according to the authors of the "Diabetes Care" study, it is believed to be related to the way protein is metabolized. Cereal and milk provides both carbohydrate and protein. A good bedtime snack consists of 3/4-cup serving of whole-grain cereal and 1-cup of low-fat milk. During cold months, you can try 1/2 cup of hot cereal with 2 tbsp. of raisins and 1 cup of skim milk as a cereal bedtime snack. Crackers and Peanut Butter Crackers provide the carbohydrate and peanut butter provides the protein. Spread 12 whole-grain crackers with 3 tsp of peanut butter or you can also try six whole-grain crackers with 3 tsp of peanut butter and 1-cup of skim milk. Each of these snacks contains 30 g of carbohydrate. Sandwiches Sandwiches also make a good bedtime snack for diabetics. Choose lean sources of meat to decrease your intake of saturated fat. Too much saturated fat in the diet increases blood cholesterol levels, another risk factor for heart disease. Bedtime sandwich ideas include two slices of whole wheat bread with 1 oz. of turkey, 1 oz. of low-fat cheese or 1 oz. of canned tuna. For a lighter snack, you can also try half of a sandwich with a piece of fresh fruit or a 2/3-cup serving of nonfat sugar-free fruited yogurt. A toasted cheese sandwich with two slices of toasted bread and one slice of low-fat cheese also makes a healthy bedtime snack. Other Protein and Carbohydrate Combinations Other protein and carbohydrate snack combinations include 2/3 cup of nonfat sugar-free fruited yogurt with cracker squares, 1 oz. of low-fat cheese with a large pear, 4 tbsp. of hummus with 1/4 cup of nonfat cottage cheese with a large banana And Also Follow Us On Facebook : https://goo.gl/7Jws9o Blogger: https://goo.gl/StU7lW Play List : https://goo.gl/9VsAEq Twitter : https://goo.gl/4OcKoW Thanks For Watching This Video Like and Subscribe ========================================== DISCLAIMER: The information provided on this channel and its videos is for general purposes only and should not be considered as professional advice. These are breads that contain the whole grain (or kernel, or berry) of various seeds, although only after they have been sprouted. They are different from 'white' bread in as much as 'white' breads are made from ground wheat endosperm (after removal of the bran and germ). Whole grain breads include the bran, germ and endosperm, therefore providing more fibre, and naturally-occurring vitamins and proteins. Rich in Vitamins And Minerals: When grains, seeds and nuts are germinated, their nutritional content improves and becomes more available to people. Because Essene bread is not baked at high temperatures, more vitamins, minerals and amino acids are available that would otherwise be destroyed. For example, sunflower sprouts are high in vitamins A and C, while bean sprouts are high in vitamin C, iron and potassium, according to "Contemporary Nutrition." Commercial bread manufacturing uses only the endosperm of the wheat kernel, which contains mainly carbohydrate and very little vitamin or mineral content. The commercial milling of grain into white flour removes the bran and the germ, which results in the loss of natural fiber and numerous vitamins and minerals. To compensate, bread manufacturers often add back thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, folic acid, calcium and iron. Essene bread, on the other hand, retains all the nutrients from its grains.

Healthier Gluten Free Low Carb Bread Recipe- Ketogenic Paleo ; Celiac Diabetes Friendly

05:41
HEALTHIER GLUTEN FREE; LOW CARB BREAD RECIPE: ( Please remember that low carb bread does not have gluten in it. So it does not rise like regular bread. If you have a smaller loaf pan it will give you a taller bread) 🍞. I have been experimenting with gluten free "lower carb" breads because I am a borderline diabetic; eating too many fruits make me ill and as a vegetarian I eat "mainly" veggies and skip the fruits; but bread is a weakness! I seen some high cholesterol breads out there and that doesn't sound appealing, so I created a "lower" fat recipe using less eggs and less butter! I hope you enjoy! Great for low carb diets and great for diabetes and celiac disease.

6 Foods You Should Avoid To Lose Weight

06:05
These are 6 foods you need to avoid to lose weight. These are not necessarily things you should never eat again, but if you're looking to lose body fat you want to stay away from these. Learn what to eat to get six pack abs 🔥 FREE 6 Week Challenge: https://gravitytransformation.com Fat Loss Calculator: http://gravitytransformation.com/macro-calculator/ Are you trying to lose weight? You’re working out, you’re counting calories, but still, you’re not getting any results? It might be because you’re eating these 6 foods that keep you from shedding those extra pounds. In this video, I’ll show you exactly what foods you must stop eating to lose weight permanently… and which foods to replace them with. You’ve probably heard that the one thing that truly matters for weight loss and weight gain is calories in, calories out. If you burn more calories than you eat, you should lose weight, right? True, however, if you only eat donuts and cake, will you get the protein, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals you need for a lean, healthy body? You won’t - and that’s why a proper diet is so important. A calorie is not a calorie - some food are simply better for you than others. A 100 grams of fructose won’t have the same impact on the body as 100 grams of quality protein. The fructose will lead to insulin resistance, higher ghrelin levels and increased appetite, The protein will give you a feeling of fullness which will prevent overeating, not to mention that it will help you build muscle. Now that you know that calories aren’t all that matters, let’s take a look at the 7 foods you should drop if you want to lose fat. 1. Sugar With a nickname like “white death”, it’s no surprise sugar is at the top of this list. Sugar is nothing more than empty calories. It has no nutritional value, no vitamins and no minerals. It spikes your blood glucose and in the long term leads to metabolic syndrome, obesity, cardiovascular disease and especially type II diabetes. You can even get addicted to it and suffer withdrawal symptoms because sugar causes a release of dopamine in the reward center of the brain. Not to mention that it is extremely bad for you teeth. So what can you when you get the sweet tooth? Raw honey is a great substitute that won’t spike your insulin and actually has a ton of amino acids, vitamins, minerals and enzymes. 2. Refined grains Pasta, bread, and pizza are delicious. However, most of them are made out of refined grains. Refined grains are high on the glycemic index and can spike your blood sugar levels, leading to weight gain and type II diabetes. One study found that eating just two slices of white bread per day was linked to a 40% greater risk of weight gain and obesity (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25335643/). In the process of refinement, the bran and germ of the grain are removed, along with most of the nutrients. But don’t worry, you can still eat grains - just make sure they’re whole. 3. All sodas and sugary drinks, diet or not What goes for sugar goes for sugary drinks as well. If sugar is just empty calories, then sugary drinks are liquid calories. The problem with these is that we don’t really detect them. You can drink a whole meal’s worth of calories and still be hungry. A single bottle of Coca-Cola “only” has 184 calories, but even if you just have one or two a day, they add up quickly. The best solution is to simply cut them out completely and drink water. 4. Alcohol Alcohol has more calories per gram than carbs or protein - 7. That means it is easy to go over your week’s calories on a Friday night out. But it’s not just the calories. Alcohol is a poison to the body. When you drink it, the liver burns alcohol instead of fat - stopping your fat burning for several hours. For example, a regular beer has 150 calories. A few of those, and some fast food at the end of the night can quickly come out to over 1000 in calories. If you want to drink, do it in moderation. 5. Salt Unlike most of this list, salt is the one thing you shouldn’t give up on. The two minerals found in it - sodium and chloride - are both necessary for optimal function of the body. Going too low leads to higher LDL levels, increased insulin resistance, increased risk of death from heart disease, heart failure and type II diabetes. However, too much salt has been linked to stomach cancer. In fact, people with high salt intake have a 68% higher risk of stomach cancer. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22296873) Over 90% of Americans eat too much salt (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22854410/). But most of that comes from processed foods, which we know are bad. If you stop eating processed foods most of the time, you don’t need to worry about salt too much. Trans fat Eating fat doesn’t make you fat and not all fats are bad for you. However, trans fats should definitely be avoided. Short for trans fatty acids
The Spectrum of Carbohydrates - from Whole Grain to White Bread

Take our free online course on food & heath on Coursera: https://www.coursera.org/learn/food-and-health Transcript: All nutrients are not created equal, especially when it comes to their effect on our health. So, changing the focus of the discussion from nutrients to foods can more effectively help them to develop eating habits that will support their long-term health. Michael Pollan: Getting our head around the idea that we should be focused on the category of foods, not nutrients, is I think very important, and that's why I emphasize that we should be talking about foods. And I think doctors should be talking to patients about foods, even if as scientists and researchers, they see through foods to nutrients. That's not a helpful way. It may be a helpful way to study foods. It's not a helpful way to communicate about them. Let’s look at an example of how, by speaking about nutrients rather than food, we can end up conveying the wrong messaging: in recent years, a great deal of scientific and media attention has been focused on the excessive amounts of carbohydrates in the average Western diet. We will encounter many popular diets trends that encourage us to drastically reduce the carbohydrates in our diet, while we’re given the message that they can eat protein-rich foods of any kind freely. This doesn’t usually lead to a diet that will be healthy for us in the long run. In fact, not all carbohydrates need to be held in contempt of the average healthy person’s diet. Whole grains, like brown rice and rolled oats are carbohydrates that provide our bodies with a useable source of energy and, bound together in that very same food, is a significant amount of fiber, which modulates the release of glucose from that food into the bloodstream. The glycemic index of a food is a measure of the speed at which glucose is released into the bloodstream after it’s digested. A whole grain, like brown rice or quinoa will result in a slower release of glucose and a more muted insulin response. On the other hand, a food that’s high in refined carbohydrates, like white bread or soda, will lead to a more rapid release of glucose into the blood and this is likely to cause a reactive spike in insulin. Because spikes of glucose and insulin lead to less stable blood sugar levels, eating foods that are refined - especially highly processed carbohydrates - can result in an earlier return of hunger – and a tendency to overeat. The glycemic index of a food is lowered when the food contains fiber or when the food is consumed in combination with protein-rich foods or other foods containing dietary fat. For people who are struggling to manage excess weight or elevated blood sugar levels associated with diabetes, eating foods that have a low glycemic index is especially important, but even healthy individuals will benefit from choosing low glycemic foods. So, when we speak about dietary carbohydrates, we’re actually speaking about a very broad family of foods - some that can be harmful to our long-term health and some that can support it. Teaching ourselves how to choose the right foods within each nutrient category is one of the keys to success. Course by Maya Adam, MD Directed by William Bottini Editing by William Bottini & Tamsin Orion Special thanks to Michael Pollan, Tracy Rydel, and David Eisenberg

If White Rice is Linked to Diabetes, What About China?

05:13
Protein consumption can exacerbate the insulin spike from high glycemic foods. Subscribe to Dr. Greger’s free nutrition newsletter at https://www.nutritionfacts.org/subscribe and get a free recipe from his new HOW NOT TO DIE COOKBOOK. (All proceeds Dr. Greger receives from the sales of his books, DVDs, and speaking engagements go to support the 501c3 nonprofit that runs NutritionFacts.org.) This one is a little twisty and might require a second watch or two. Instead of breaking this into multiple videos I tried to pack it all into one. Basically, the question is if the modern diabetes epidemic in China and Japan has been linked to white rice consumption, but how can we reconcile that with low diabetes rates just a few decades ago when they ate even more rice? The protein exacerbation of the effect of refined carbs could help explain the remarkable results achieved by Dr. Kempner with a don’t-try-this-at-home diet composed of mostly white rice and sugar. See Kempner Rice Diet: Whipping Us Into Shape (http://nutritionfacts.org/video/kempner-rice-diet-whipping-us-into-shape/). Refined grains may also not be good for our blood pressure (Whole Grains May Work As Well As Drugs http://nutritionfacts.org/video/whole-grains-may-work-as-well-as-drugs/). Are Sprouted Grains Really Healthy?

04:55
For more info: https://draxe.com/sprouted-grain-bread/?utm_campaign=Youtube-Oct-2014&utm_medium=social&utm_source=youtube&utm_term=sproutedgrains In today’s video, we will be discussing the subject of sprouted grains and if they are really healthy. I’ll cut right to the chase. My answer is: sometimes and in moderation. There are three reasons sprouted grains are better than regular grains: 1. Phytic acid is in regular grains, which is an enzyme inhibitor. (If you soak the grains, the sprouted grains unlock the nutrients that your body can absorb.) 2. Gluten in protein becomes more digestible. 3. Regular grains are high in carbohydrates, specifically a type of carbohydrate called amylopectin. Amylopectin affects blood sugar levels and can increase your risk of diabetes. Overall, sprouted grains are the better option, but it’s still not perfect or what I would consider a healing food. If you’re struggling with an autoimmune disease, removing grains for a while would allow your body to heal. In general, if you can limit your intake of grains to just a couple of times of week, in moderation, you will be consuming a healthy diet. *This content is strictly the opinion of Dr. Josh Axe, and is for informational and educational purposes only. Is it REALLY necessary to avoid bread and sugar for weight loss?

13:29
My 57-year old Wife, Karen uses this 1 simple metabolic protocol to fight AGE-related weight gain (only 12 min a day!): http://gl12.net/ytbreadandsugar Inside this live Facebook video, I'm going to talk about five evidence-based strategies that allow you to eat lots of bread and sugar without storing fat. So one of the most commonly asked questions that I get from friends and family is, they don't want to diet, they just want to lose belly fat without giving up their favorite foods. So it's always, how do I eat all my favorite high-carb foods, how do I eat deserts, how do I eat bread without storing this fat? Well, there are some scientifically evidence-based strategies that you can use to eat lots of bread and sugar and not store them as fat. You'll also understand something that I've Metabolic Zone Training. I'm going to teach you how to reactivate declining fat loss hormones and quickly lose belly fat in only 12 minutes per day. So the first strategy is to simply eat your protein and veggies first, before you eat your favorite high-carb foods or high-sugary foods. The second tip is to pour for this elixir on everything. And that elixir is apple cider vinegar. So a tablespoon or two of apple cider vinegar poured on a salad before you dive into your favorite breads or high-carb sugar foods has been shown to reduce blood glucose as well. In fact, one study showed that blood glucose levels post-apple cider vinegar were 34% lower after eating 50 grams of white bread. So pretty impressive. Again, this is going to help the body prevent fat spillover. Number three is, eat this citrus fruit before meals. And this citrus fruit is grapefruit. Now, if you're taking any medications, proceed with caution here, because grapefruit can interact with many medications. So just check your label. Number four is the ice water trick, and this is pretty simple. So water is a major appetite suppressant. Don't underestimate the power of that. Much more powerful than trending diet pills. Number five is, activate GLUT 4. Now, this is the most important one. GLUT 4 is a glucose transporter, so it's responsible for storing energy in our muscles and in fat tissue. The secret to getting glucose-- to activate GLUT 4 and bring it to the surface is to use our 12-minute protocols. And when you activate GLUT 4 and you bring it to the surface, it's kind of like a gateway that's opening up that allows the carbs to be re-shuttled and partitioned into muscle tissue and liver tissue to prevent them from spilling over and being stored as fat on the body. I appreciate you taking time out of your busy day. I know time is our number one commodity, so when you take time out of your busy day to check out my videos, I'm very grateful and appreciative of that. So thank you, have a great day, and keep going strong.
