Dr. John P Williams: Breast Cancer Surgeon & Advocate

01:56
Dr. John P. Williams is a national leader in patient education and advocacy. A breast cancer surgeon in Northern Virginia, he founded the Breast Cancer School for Patients. VISIT THE BREAST CANCER SCHOOL FOR PATIENTS: http://www.breastcancercourse.org LIST OF QUESTIONS FOR YOUR DOCTORS: http://www.breastcancercourse.org/breast-health-updates-latest-videos/ FOLLOW US: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Breast-Cancer-School-for-Patients-958519147618444/ _______________________________________ Why create the Breast Cancer School for Patients? Over the years, family and friends have called me for advice about their breast care. After a quick conversation, they were incredibly empowered to ask their own doctors exactly what was needed. You simply get better care when you know about the important topics and the questions to ask. That is why we created the Breast Cancer School for Patients. Currently, the medical profession does not actually “teach” patients how to obtain quality, cutting-edge care in their communities. This is a missing link in our collective efforts to provide better quality breast cancer care in the United States. We feel it should be our duty in healthcare to teach you what you need to know before you consult with your breast cancer physicians. This way you can be more engaged with your physicians about the complexities of cancer care. This information must be readily available online, well organized, and in short video format. Our sole mission at the Breast Cancer School for Patients is to fill this patient information gap online. You will make better treatment decisions when you are taught to be an “expert” in your own breast cancer care. What is a “team approach” to breast cancer? A large part of my general surgery training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas was working with the experts in cancer treatment at the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC). Also located in the Texas Medical Center, MDACC is the largest dedicated cancer hospital in the United States. My general surgery rotations there exposed me to the “team approach” to breast cancer. The cutting-edge care a multidisciplinary team can offer patients is why I founded the Novant Health UVA Health Systerm Breast Center in my community in Haymarket, Virginia. It is personally rewarding that those with breast cancer in my community will now benefit from this team approach for generations to come. Do you come from a family of physicians? Growing up, I knew that I would likely become a doctor. My grandfather, L. Polk Williams, Sr. MD, brought modern medicine to the small town of Edenton, North Carolina in the early 1920s. During the Great Depression, grateful patients would leave chickens and livestock at his back door in exchange for the house calls and lifesaving care he provided. My father, L. Polk Williams, Jr. MD, followed his father into medicine, also attending Wake Forest University and Bowman Gray School of Medicine. He returned to his home town of Edenton after training in general surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and brought Dr. Michael Debakey’s world-class surgical care with him. I was born in Edenton and grew up in Elizabeth City, just a short drive from there. Why is being a breast cancer surgeon rewarding? I find I am interconnected in so many ways to my patients. They call me with questions. I talk with them at the grocery store. I love being there as a physician and friend when they are in need. These personal relationships are the ultimate reward for being a dedicated physician. What drives me today is doing everything in my power to obtain the best care possible for my own patients. I use every ounce of thought and energy teaching them and guiding them to get the best possible breast cancer care. Where did you attend school and train to be a surgeon? I entered Duke University as a freshman knowing that becoming a doctor was my goal. I became fascinated by the complexities of the brain and soon found myself engaged in neurology research at Duke University School of Medicine while an undergraduate. I graduated with distinction in psychology, and then attended the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Like my father, I trained in general surgery at Baylor College of Medicine with Dr. Debakey. He was the world’s greatest cardiovascular surgeon of the 20th century and a leader in promoting advances in medicine and in health. Professionally, I am most proud to have applied to breast cancer care the same pursuit of excellence that I learned from Dr. Debakey and his associates at Baylor in Houston, Texas. More about Dr. John P. Williams Dr. Williams is a breast cancer surgeon in Virginia. He founded and is medical director the Novant Health UVA Health System Breast Center which serves the communities of Manassas, Gainesville and Haymarket, Virginia. Fighting Breast Cancer through Mobile Mammography

03:51
Learn more about the Fund: http://kayyow.com/ Coach Kay Yow's passion for helping fight breast cancer can be seen in the digital mammography equipment on two mobile units funded by the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. These two units travel to over 15 different counties in North Carolina to provide mammogram screenings for 5,000 or more women a year. Wendy Avery, Clinic Coordinator for Rex Mobile Mammography says that many of the areas the units travel to are in remote areas where mammography areas simply don't exist or aren't easily accessible. In addition, Jade Watta, a mammographer on the unit, says that they also service corporate sites, giving breast cancer screenings to women who otherwise might not take the time to take care of themselves. 69 year old Lenora Woods is a breast cancer survivor who was originally diagnosed with a mobile screening on one of the units with equipment funded by the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. With the benefit of early detection, Lenora was able to gain early medical intervention and treatment and is currently in full remission and active in her church and community. For Lenora, early detection was a lifesaver. Alliance Medical Ministry is a clinic that benefits from a visit from the mobile mammography unit once a month. Dr. Jaqueline Hicks, an Osteopathic Physician with the clinic, says that many of her patients who come into establish care have never had a screening mammogram, nor could they afford one, without this service. Early detection equals early treatment, she states. Because mammography is not a revenue producing modality, Wendy Avery says that funds from their partnership with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund are critical to their survival. Stephanie Glance, our Executive Director at the Fund, thinks these mobile units are right in line with Kay's mission to reach out to women who couldn't afford treatment, and Coach Yow's heart for the under-served. If you'd like to learn more about the Rex Mobile Mammography Units visiting a site near you, call 919-784-4210 or make a request here at: https://www.rexhealth.com/rh/care-treatment/imaging-radiology/mammography/r… To support programs like the mobile mammography units or research in the fight against cancer, please contact the Kay Yow Cancer fund at www.kayyow.com

Into the Fringe - Dr. Karla Turner PhD - Audiobook - spoken by Julie UFO ET Alien Abduction Greys

07:16:34
An account of alien abduction describes how Dr. Karla Turner Ph.D. and her family uncovered long-buried memories and actual physical evidence of their encounters with aliens. ------------- Music ▶Into the Fringe by Dr. Karla Turner Ph.D audiobook read by Bridget - http://bit.ly/1Bzomkh No Music ▶Into the Fringe - Dr. Karla Turner Ph.D. Audiobook (spoken by Julie) http://bit.ly/2ehK2lN ------------- Karla Turner's story.... If you wanted to find four words to describe the life of alien abduction investigator Karla Turner, Ph.D., those words might be intrepid human rights activist. A former college instructor who held a doctorate in Old English Studies from the University of North Texas, Turner had authored three books on the abduction phenomenon, Into the Fringe (1992), Taken (1994), and, with psychic Ted Rice, Masquerade of Angels (1994). She was convinced that the aliens were here not to help us out, but to steal from us the sovereignty of our souls. She wanted us to fight back – with the same courage that she herself showed when, after a period of struggle – just like Mae Brussell and Ann Livingston– she succumbed to a particularly virulent, fast-acting form of breast cancer, on Jan. 9, 1996. The diminutive scholar, author and activist, who was born in 1947 and made her home in Roland, Arkansas, had been involved in alien abduction work since 1988. Two traits, she had come to conclude, characterized alien behavior above all: deceitfulness and cruelty. In Into the Fringe, she recounted the abduction experiences of herself, her husband Casey (an assumed name), and several other members of her family. The family had first became aware of their experiences in 1988. Later, they were able to recall abduction events going back to their childhoods; the experiences were uniformly disturbing. In her second book, Taken (published, like Masquerade of Angels, by her own press, Kelt Works, in Roland), Turner told the stories of eight female abductees who had contacted her after the publication of her first book. Masquerade of Angels was the biography of Louisiana psychic Ted Rice, who, used to channeling benevolent entities, then becoming aware of his alien abduction experiences, first believed the aliens were benign, then came to the conclusion that they were no more than remorseless predators. From beginning to end, Turner had been struck by how contradictory the stories of the aliens were. They would, she averred, say anything they wanted to attain their ends. As the abductees in Taken reported it, the aliens insisted variously that they had come to help us cope with upcoming ecological disaster, interbreed for our good and theirs, help us evolve, take our genetic material to revivify their dying race. Sometimes they claimed they had outright created us; other times, that they were genetically altering us for our own good. more info of her story at: http://projectcamelot.org/turner.html -------- Read along with ebook - Into the Fringe: http://bit.ly/1n1S3Jg ------ facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/DrKarlaTurner ------ Dr. Karla Turner Audiobooks: ▶ Taken: Inside the Alien-Human Abduction Agenda by Dr. Karla Turner audiobook read by Bridgette - http://bit.ly/1uAPJcu ▶ Masquerade of Angels Dr. Karla Turner read by Bridget Audiobook - http://bit.ly/1GxgxkK ▶ Alien Abductions in the Gingerbread House by Karla Turner, Ph.D. audiobook (read by Daniel) - http://bit.ly/1xFtYOb Dr. Karla Turner Lectures: ▶Dr. Karla Turner's Final Lecture May 7, 1995 - San Diego, CA - (ufo, abduction, grey aliens) - http://bit.ly/1FRTLVP Testimony's Alien Abduction: ▶Dr. Karla Turner interview's six woman abducted by Alien Greys, Nordics, Extraterrestrials - http://bit.ly/194uERo ▶ Dr. Karla Turner testimony - interview with Greg Bishop Austin MUFON conference - July 9, 1994 - http://bit.ly/1Ct8wMd ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ (no money is made from this video, educational purposes only) ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Tattoos for Breast Cancer Survivors | Help Launch a Nonprofit with me!

04:33
Tattoos can be a healing force for breast cancer survivors who've had a mastectomy/reconstruction. Help out at artfromscars.org 3D nipple tattoos can make reconstructed breasts look more real. Intricate designs can turn even the ugliest of scars into something beautiful. But after the financial burden of cancer treatment, many breast cancer patients are unable to afford these types of tattoos- and likely wouldn't know where or how to find a tattoo artist skilled in working on scars and/or radiated skin. YOU can help change that by becoming a founding sponsor of a nonprofit organization that will find and identify able tattoo artists (starting here in my home state of North Carolina) AND provide grants to cancer survivors who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford a tattoo. You can help turn their scars into art. I plan to expand the organization beyond North Carolina's borders once we're up & running smoothly- and eventually extend assistance to survivors of other forms of cancer that are living with scars from treatment.

Biker Babes for Breast Cancer and Cats

02:52
Harley’s Angels and Cleo the Cat raise funds for MD Anderson, Baylor and A&M's FIP Research. For the first time ever, nontraditional “biker babes” will join forces with a cool cat named Cleo to mark the first Angel Wings and Furry Things on Sunday October 18, 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Rudyard’s British Pub in Houston, Texas. Harley’s Angels – Cruzin to Cure, is a group of women motorcycle enthusiasts dedicated to promoting breast cancer awareness, research, and education. Through their fundraising efforts since 2003, they have donated over $700,000 to The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and Baylor College of Medicine’s breast cancer centers. Harley’s Angels is a Texas non-profit 501(c)3 all-volunteer organization with over 50 current members. Cleo the Cat is Montrose’s beloved glamourpuss who is frequently seen around town at pubs, restaurants, walking the streets on a leash with her Mom and even at local music stores like Cactus Music. She also loves taking baths shown in her hit video with over 170,000 views. Her nearly 3,000 fans on Facebook most love Cleo for her passion to help animals less fortunate than herself. Since 2008, Cleo has raised over $40,000 in monitory and food donations for animal rescue groups such as SMART Rescue, Friends of County Pets, Rescue Bank, FCAP and Friends for Life. Both of these groups want to expand their community reach by coming together for Angel Wings and Furry Things. Cleo’s grandma is a breast cancer survivor and many Harley’s Angels members love animals. So why not join ranks and raise money for human and animal medical research alike? Cleo has chosen to support the cutting edge research happening at The Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences for Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). FIP is a deadly coronavirus mostly infecting younger and older cats that currently has no cure. Adding to the fun of this fundraising milestone, Texas’ own Blaggards will take the stage for an afternoon of unforgettable and energetic tunes of “Stout Irish Rock”. The band defines their style as traditional Irish music mixed with rock n’ roll, informed by everything from Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley to Thin Lizzy and Black Sabbath. Individual tickets are available online for $20 or at the door for $25. For more information please visit http://theharleysangels.org/ or http://cleocleocat.com/. Reality Check - HOA Power to Foreclose

04:14
A mountain couple says they faced a nightmare after learning about a little known law that meant they could lose their home. In the state of North Carolina  homeowner's associations have the right to force foreclosure on your property  if you don't pay your dues. Jan and Tracie Humphries say they chose to stop paying their HOA dues after seeing little in return. Jan says he had to do a lot of neighborhood maintenance himself including keeping the road up. They live in a neighborhood where the majority of property has not been developed. They're one of the few homeowners who live there.  They say the HOA decided to take legal action and start foreclosure proceedings on their house.  After Tracie was diagnosed with breast cancer it became more difficult to catch up with what they owed. Eventually Jan cashed in his life insurance policy so the two wouldn't lose their home. Their plight is similar to many across the state. But, some legal experts argue HOA's are given the power so they will be taken seriously and so that everyone pays their fair share. The North Carolina General Assembly is currently hearing arguments that include giving HOA's either more or less power.

Baylor Health Care System Facts: Did You Know?

04:56
http://www.baylorhealth.com/About/Pages/History.aspx - Baylor Health Care System is a network of 26 hospitals with more than 3,400 beds in the Dallas-Forth Worth area. DID YOU KNOW? During the Great Depression, Baylor created the first pre-pay health care program. Today it is known as Blue Cross. Baylor established the first blood bank in 1939 and founded the American Association of Blood Banks in 1947. If "Baylor Babies" were a city, it would be the size of Arlington, TX. In the '80s, Baylor revolutionized nursing by creating the Two Days Alternative scheduling plan. It is now used in hospitals around the world. Baylor Heart and Vascular Hospital has the lowest heart failure re-admission rate in the country. According to Consumer Reports, Baylor University Medical Center has the highest patient satisfaction rating of any teaching hospital. Baylor serves almost 5 people per minute. In 2011 Baylor opened the largest outpatient cancer in North Texas -- a 10-story, 467,000-square-foot home of hope, the Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center. Baylor is not waiting on health care reform. By 2015, it will embrace a new model known as the accountable care organization.
