Cat Kidney Failure - Causes and Symptoms 1 Cat kidney failure is also called feline kidney failure or feline renal failure and it's a fairly common occurrence in older cats. Kidney failure is a frequent cause of death in older cats. But kidney failure can also strike relatively young cats, sometimes as early as four years old. 2 There are two risk factors that seem to be common in cats who develop kidney failure. Distemper vaccinations. Recent research seems to indicate a link between distemper vaccinations and cat kidney problems. 3 A dry food diet. For centuries cats have been getting moisture from the prey they kill and eat. When domesticated cats eat nothing but dry food, they sometimes don't supplement their diets with enough water. This lack of water stresses the cat's kidneys over the course of their life. 4 What are the symptoms of kidney failure in cats? When cat kidney failure begins to present symptoms, you'll notice that your cat will begin to drink more water than usual. This is the cat's instinctive way of dealing with a damaged or failing kidney. This means the cat will also begin to urinate more. This cycle of unusual drinking-and-urinating is usually the first symptom of a problem. 5 Unfortunately, by the time the cat shows this symptom, kidney function has probably dropped to around 25 percent. Your vet will most likely want to perform a blood test to confirm renal failure. 6 Sadly, cat kidney failure is incurable. By the time symptoms appear, it's too late to do anything. It's not even likely that any medical procedure can slow down the progress of the disease as scar tissue replaces healthy kidney cells. 7 Toxins will also accumulate in the cat's body, and as the disease progress, the cat will exhibit lethargy, lose weight, vomit or show other general signs of ill health. 8 Some cats survive longer than others as cat kidney failure progresses. It may not be possible to control some symptoms with medication the way you can with a human. So the only thing you can hope to do is make your cat as comfortable as possible during the ordeal. 9 There are, however, some supplements that seem to help slow the progress of kidney failure in cats, including omega-3 fatty acids and several anti-oxidants. Talk to your vet. 10 Your vet might also recommend fluid supplements. This is important because cats with kidney failure can't drink enough water to compensate for the loss of fluids they're experiencing.

Cat Kidney Failure Symptoms Cat kidney failure can strike relatively young cats (sometimes as early as four years old), but more often, it happens to older cats. Unfortunately, it is life-threatening -- in fact, it's one of the more common causes of death among older felines. Here are some important symptoms that your cat may have cat kidney failure (also known as feline kidney failure or feline renal failure). * Your cat will begin to drink more water than usual due to abnormal thirst. * This will, in turn, lead to more frequent urination. Very often, this is the first symptom of kidney trouble. * Blood in the urine is a classic sign of kidney problems. But urine may also appear concentrated or diluted, indicating that the kidneys aren't functioning properly. * Vomiting. * Weight loss and a disinclination to eat normally. * Signs of unusual lethargy and lack of energy. * Bad breath. * Changes in bowel habits: diarrhea or constipation are both possibilities. * Your cat will seem to experience vision problems -- even blindness. * Your cat may experience seizures and comas. Unfortunately, by the time symptoms become prominent, kidney function has probably already gone down to about 25 percent. Damage is irreversible. The purpose of this video has been to provide quick, basic information about the symptoms of cat kidney fauilure. But And remember, you should always rely only on advice from a veterianrian for a diagnosis of any symptoms your pet may be experiencing.

Top 10 most disturbing transformation photos of people that were addicted to narcotics. Witnessing the degradation and deterioration of a drug abuser whose addiction has taken its toll offers a first-hand perspective on just how powerless certain people are against the potent sway of heavy drugs, not to mention the toll that they take on the body. In 2014, drug treatment assistance website Rehabs.com put together a graphic, stunning compilation of photos that captured the physical regression of chronic drug abusers through their head shots. This rather pointed effort, which gathered the mug shots of those arrested multiple times for drug- and/or drug-related offenses, served to highlight the potentially catastrophic health effects of drug abuse in a raw, visceral and impactful manner. Physical changes seen through these images include skin lesions, decayed or missing teeth, open sores and premature aging, among other noticeable symptoms. It is important to note that not all of the deterioration and facial change seen within these people is necessarily the cause of drug use, but illicit substances have surely assumed at least some responsibility for the visible toll taken on these 10 individuals. The Rehabs.com webpage aimed to serve as a source of education and inspiration, not only for those who came upon it but also for the addicts featured on the site. Lest anyone feel that the images are being used to shame, embarrass or exploit those in need of help, the website includes a disclaimer that not only invites users to request the removal of their photo, but also offers financial assistance for those seeking treatment. It also acknowledges that the images shown represent only the most extreme cases of drug abuse, but makes sure to mention that those featured in the images likely never anticipated such a slippery slope towards extreme addiction. The statistics on drug abuse are pretty stunning. In 2013, over 24 million people reported that they had taken illicit drugs or abused prescription medication in just the past month alone. One year earlier, more than 1.7 million people had been admitted into treatment programs for substance abuse. While certainly representing a staggering number, that doesn’t address the vast majority of drug users in need of help. And although statistics can be impactful in their own right, the personal cost of drug abuse is probably best represented in the faces of those most affected by it. Different drugs carry their own common side effects. Meth is known to cause facial wasting and open sores, cocaine can be an appetite suppressant and lead to weight loss, ecstasy often causes teeth grinding and even marijuana can age and pale the skin over time with excessive use. But even more than the symptoms of any one drug, the most damaging impact of substance abuse might be the mental side of the addiction, where recreating that high becomes a driving force in the addict’s life and leads to self-neglect. These 10 addicts wear the heavy cost of their drug abuse on their faces, plain for anyone to see. The world's fattest man, who ballooned to 70 stone, has died at the age of 44. Keith Martin, who died from pneumonia, had been bed-bound, unable to walk and at one point had not left his north London home for a decade. Mr Martin admitted he knew he was killing himself by consuming 20,000 calories a day - almost 10 times the recommended amount for an adult. He had six-egg fry-ups for breakfast then pizzas, kebabs, Chinese takeaways and Big Macs for lunch and dinner, all washed down with six pints of coffee and two litres of fizzy drinks. Last year he had three quarters of his stomach removed and lost half his body weight. But it has now emerged that just eight months later, in March this year, he died from pneumonia. Keith left behind his two sisters - Sharon and Tina - who cared for him for many years leading up to his death. Speaking from the home they shared in Harlesden, north London, Tina said: 'We're still grieving. We miss him very much.' Today the surgeon who removed three quarters of his stomach to help him lose weight has said the Government must bring in a fast-food tax. Kesava Mannur, who operated on Keith at Homerton Hospital last year, said anyone with a Body Mass Index rate of higher than 30, and type 2 diabetes, should be offered weight-loss surgery. He said: 'The government needs to make unhealthy fast food more expensive - otherwise we'll continue to see more and more people like Keith. 'In his case, it's a shame because he'd had successful surgery despite being high-risk because of his size. It was unlucky he then caught pneumonia' Sadly it was just eight months after Keith - who weighed 70 stone at his heaviest - had undergone a successful gastric sleeve which removed three-quarters of his stomach. If he had lived he would have lost hundreds of pounds and regained his ability to walk and live a normal life, according to Mr Mannur who supports new NHS guidelines which encourage doctors to suggest weight-loss surgery for anyone with a BMI higher than 30 and type 2 diabetes. That means up to 2 million people could be eligible - and if they all agreed to surgery it would cost the NHS £12billion. In the wake of Chancellor George Osborne's tax reform revelations in this week's autumn statement, Mr Mannur said last night: Before he died in March, unemployed Keith admitted much of the weight had come from eating huge amounts of super-cheap fast food. Keith's surgery was filmed for Channel 5 documentary 70 Stone & Almost Dead. He said before the operation: 'I'd resigned myself that either I was going to die in my bed or I was going to kill myself. But now I think 'you stupid person'. 'I'm a lot more confident than I used to be. I feel a lot happier. 'In a few months' time I want to be up and walking 'I know the only person to blame is me. All those years wasted. I'm not going to waste anymore of it'. Having been stuck in his house for ten years and bedridden for several years due to his size, Keith was able to drop 25 stone in order to qualify for the surgery after switching to a 2,000 calorie a day diet. But just a week after the procedure he discharged himself from the hospital, against doctors' orders, because he was homesick. By October 2013 he was back in hospital with septic shock and dehydration. Two weeks later he contracted pneumonia. Keith spent four months in hospital before he was released in February 2014, having been deemed medically fit. His weight had dropped to 39 stone After being transported home he said: 'I feel great about surviving the operation. 'It gives me a chance now to go do some of the things I wanted to do - to get myself up and walking, take my dog Benji out for a walk. 'This is the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new chapter. Where it takes me I don't know, but it's going to be fun finding out.' But just a month later he was dead. Prior to the weight-loss surgery, Keith recorded a video message to his family in case he didn't survive. He said: 'Hi guys, I just wanted to let you know that I love you guys and thanks for being there for me. You can tell the rest of the family I love them and thanks for the support. Take care of each other.' Keith's weight ballooned after he became seriously depressed in his twenties. He blamed the bingeing on depression and anxiety which he developed after his mother died - also of pneumonia - when he was 16. Keith, who used to spend his days playing video games and watching TV, explained in 2012: 'I started eating to ease the pain and before I knew it, I was bingeing every time something upset me. 'I've always been depressed. I am an agoraphobic - I'm afraid of public places - but it was never treated. 'I just want to be happy, without needing food to make me happy.'

My cat Obi, 17, is slowly dying. She has lost weight, she's barely eating or drinking, she's breathing and walking oddly. We don't know what's wrong with her but we can't do anything. I hope you guys understand to situation. Sorry that I'm super quiet in the video. This may not mean anything to you but this cat means alot to me. She has always been a snuggle bunny when I'm sad, angry, or having a tough time sleeping. She's always meowing and being a happy old lady. No negative comments plz. Feel free to share coping mechanisms if your pet has passed and were helpful. So bye guys... Edit: Obi died the day after this was posted. Her last breath was a purr in my mothers arms. I was at school and gave a presentation, I said I had 2 cats... that's a sad case of irony. But Obi is in kitty heaven.

Humans have a special —and somewhat an odd— relationship with dogs. 60% of Americans own a pet, and the most popular of them are dogs. Our relationship with them actually goes back pretty far. Some scholars believe that wolves and humans hunted and lived among each other— and the reason humans came out on top was because we partnered with wolves. Then, as we evolved so did our furry friends. Now, we treat these animals like family. We give them names, keep them safe, and share our lives with them. So when it's time for them to go, it feels a lot like we're losing a part of the family. Symptoms of Feline Kidney Disease www.NaturalCatHealth.com/Renal People who care for cats need to know the common symptoms of feline kidney disease for two reasons. First, it’s best to know what you, and your cat, are dealing with before a vet’s diagnosis, so that it doesn’t come as a surprise or a shock. When we are in shock, we don’t always make sound decisions. Second, you want to be able to pick it up very early on so you can take pro-active measures. Naturally, it’s even better to know what causes this potentially fatal condition so your cat never has to experience it. So the common symptoms of feline kidney disease include: increased thirst with the attendant increase in urination weakness or lethargy poor appetite with the attendant weight loss unhealthy coat bad breathe digestive disorders such as vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation These symptoms can also point to other problems, but it’s a good, rough guide. This disease ‘label’ can be determined through veterinary blood and urine tests. As far as vets are concerned this is not a curable disease. However, in the holistic world, we think very differently. Certainly end stage cases would be a challenge to pull back, but those who haven’t developed to this stage yet do have a good prognosis. But only if you work with a good holistic practitioner, preferably a homeopath or exclusively homeopathic vet. Restoration of health takes time and expertise. Generally, this isn’t something you can do on your own. But what about causes? It makes much more sense to appreciate what the causes are and then avoid these issues and in so doing, protect your cat. When you understand and appreciate the causes, for any disease, you and your cat can have life long protection. These causes are not taught at veterinary schools. Feline kidney disease deteriorates over time. It isn’t sudden, so no-one connects the dots between cause and effect. The only ones who do think outside the square, who can connect the dots are holistic practitioners. As one myself, I can shed light on the path to wellness for you. One of the best things you can do is to stop feeding the dried cat food. If you enjoyed this video, do LIKE it and leave a comment. If you would like to know how to keep your cat so healthy the chances of them getting kidney disease, any disease, drops to almost zero, check out my website www.NaturalCatHealth.com/Renal https://youtu.be/p3e_ORib8a8 https://youtube.com/watch?v=p3e_ORib8a8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3qeRtfeckU

The UK's fattest cat, who weighs the same as a small child, has been given his own doggy trainer to help him shed the pounds. Ulric, who at a staggering 2st 2lbs is twice the weight of a normal feline, has been on a diet since last year but barely lost a pound. Now his desperate owner, Jan Mitchell, has bought a five month old puppy to chase the morbidly obese Norwegian Forest cat around the garden. Dennis, a pugalier (a pug crossed with a King Charles cavalier spaniel) has got Ulric running, play fighting - in a bid to fight the flab after dieting failed. And in three months of forced exercise, the tubby tomcat has already lost 2lbs - more than he lost in 16 months of dieting. Jan, 69, from Dorchester, Dorset, said: 'We wanted to get a puppy in the hope he would play with Ulric but Dennis has turned out to be a bit of a personal trainer for him. 'They get on really well and Ulric now runs around the garden, which he never went in before. Although, he doesn't really have much choice when Dennis is chasing him. 'They play fight and wrestle on the ground quite a lot which must be doing Ulric some good. Ulric is a lot more active than he's ever been and is starting to lose weight.' Ulric was a normal-size kitten when Jan got him and his sister Ulla at three months old, but his lazy nature and his habit of stealing his sister's food meant by 15 months old he was 1st 3lbs. When he hit two stone - more than twice the average weight of a healthy cat - Jan entered him in a pet slimming competition run by animal charity PDSA. Ulric was the heaviest cat ever to take part in the competition and had his food weighed to make sure he didn't overeat, but after the six-month competition he'd barely lost a pound. Jan, a retired secretary, said: 'We couldn't really work out why Ulric got so fat - his diet only consisted of dry cat food and water, nothing elaborate. 'He just kept getting bigger and bigger and when he hit two stone that's when the alarm bells started ringing. 'He is a lovely cat but he's just very greedy and lazy. He didn't do any exercise and spent all day lying around. I tried putting him on a lead and take him for a walk but he refused to move. 'Dennis absolutely loves him and can't leave him alone. 'Ulric is still on a diet but now he is getting more exercise hopefully he should lose a lot more weight.' The seven-year-old Norwegian Forest cat was declared as morbidly obese by vets when he ballooned to twice his normal weight after he spent years stealing his sister Ulla's food and gorging on cat biscuits. He is only a few pounds off what is thought to be the world's heaviest cat, the aptly named Meatball from the US, who weighs in at a whopping two-and-a-half stone. The four-year-old puss was handed over to Maricopa County Animal Care and Control in Phoenix, Arizona, by his former owners. Previous fattest cat, Meow - also from the US - died at 2st 11lbin 2012.

Today, different companies use their name to market therapeutic devices based on its precepts. Does not have the evidence of its effectiveness, the sale of these devices is prohibited in some countries and manufacturers and distributors are being tried for fraud or false medical claim. Moreover, at the end of his life, Rife had to face various trials and exiled to Mexico to escape justice. (Source Wikipedia) - About of care essential oils with Cowden protocol (samento and company), here is the link: http://www.nutramedix.ec/ns/lyme-protocol. - About 10 minutes before the end of the interview, I said a stupidity (well ... one more), the Spooky care with the 4th method (instantaneous transmissions without notion of distance, frequencies with a " witness "DNA, so) will of course beyond 3-4 meters. As said in the interview Sébastien, inter-react cells outside all notions of distance. - Link the forum for discussion and information exchange on Lyme disease: http://www.forumlyme.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=2906 - Some details on "Spooky" from Sebastian: "The principle is that of Dr. Rife: the frequencies excite the bacteria to the point that they burst. The transmission of these frequencies is in the mode "remote" by scalar wave or so called "non-local" Albert Einstein described as weird, bizarre (spooky in English). Currently, there is no science to explain this mode of transmission, as in the lab experiments prove its existence. To use this mode of transmission, just leave a piece of DNA in the frequency generator and all the DNA of the owner then receives information on the frequency, which has the effect of killing the targeted bacteria. The distance between the generator and the person would not be a problem for this transmission. Disease for me is Lyme disease, which is a bacterial cocktail. I came to use such care as Lyme is not recognized (screening tools can be reliable and chronicity of the disease is not recognized in France). Without a prescription, I had sought late 2012 alternatives to allopathic medicine. Rife was a track I've explored successfully. Remote transmission mode makes the application easy care. As for myself "remote", I use (even now) what is described in this website: http://www.spooky2.com/ I translate into French the user manual (technical and best practices) http://www.spooky2.com/downloadsPage/index.html " - At the end of our conversation, I asked Sebastian if "Spooky" could be tested on my old cat: Toudoux. Aged 17-18 years Toudoux was only a shadow of himself. He weighed only 2k400, had a stench (as in the song of Phebee in the TV series Friends "smelly cat"), hardly moving, not washed well, losing his hair, he had a big abscess mouth and her eyes wept blood. In short, the dying cat, in addition to its foul odor, broadcast a sad death of atmosphere in the house. Despite two visits to the vet, and 800 euros Care (infusions, antibiotics, herbal medicine and acupuncture please) the diagnosis was not very optimistic: "It was the age and kidney (renal failure) ... We just have to wait. " However, Toudoux did not seem to suffer. A friend who recently lost her pussy even told me that at the approach of death cats secrete a kind of endorphin that leaves enough "in the cotton" not to suffer without preventing provided for have the strength to go into hiding to die. That evening, our cat showed few signs of vivacity including an amazing munchies. In short, he went on to literally and figuratively, the hair of the beast. All cats have digestive troubles from time to time, and diarrhea is not uncommon. Usually, diarrhea lasts a day or so and clears up on its own. Other times, it may last for several days and cause dehydration, weight loss and lethargy. When your cat shows these signs, you'll most likely need to treat her with medication and reconsider her diet. Welcome to Pets and Animals YouTube Channel. Apple cider vinegar saved my pet, Sasha. This simple home remedy does wonders for cats and dogs. It cures stomach problems including runny stool, vomiting and urinary tract infections common among house pets. It also curbs those pesky hair balls and unnecessary vomiting. It does wonders with their immune system and their respiratory system, and aids their digestive track. It's also good for urinary tract infections or prevents crystals from forming in the urine, and it gets rid of those brown tear stains. In fact, it helped my cat who was near death get back on track. I really love this stuff. Less is more so please don't give your cat more than a recommended dose of 1/4 tsp diluted in 8 ozs. of water. They trust you, so don't hurt them. My cat, Sasha, had been sick for 3 weeks straight before I stumbled on this information. It really, really works. I thank God for it because I'm not sure if my cat would have survived. He lost a lot of weight while he was sick. He weighs 20 pounds and it was noticeable. Now, he's gained 80 percent of his weight back and he's not sick anymore. He got sick because I changed to high quality cat food, but he was too old to adjust to the change, so I had to switch him back. He is happy as a little clam now. He's birthday is in December. He will be 15 years old -- that's a major milestone for any cat. Sasha has since gone on to heaven, but he was 17 years old when he passed, and he had a fabulous quality of life before he passed. So, I could be the poster child for this stuff. Kidney cancer doesn't get much of an attention unlike those of breast, skin, or prostate cancer. Kidney cancer refers to renal cell carcinoma or RCC. This makes up about 85% of all kidney cancer. RCC throws up as a tumour in the lining of one of the kidney tubules. Humans have two kidneys, which filter the blood of waste and toxins. Kidneys also balance the chemical composition of the blood and also manage its heath and urine production. The kidneys also produce hormones that help digest food. This encourages the bone marrow to produce red blood cells. The symptoms of kidney cancer appear in places like your urine tract or lower back. They have more to do with kidney function and tumour growth. Its symptoms do not appear until the later stages or until the tumour has grown large. It is only accidentally found during routine imaging tests. This video deals with the top warning signs that your body produces when the kidneys are in trouble. Continue watching to know about these subtle symptoms of kidney cancer. 1. Blood In Urine: This is one of the common symptoms of advanced stage RCC. Immediate medical attention is required in this case. 2. Back/Side Pain: Pain or pressure in the back or side is also a symptom of kidney cancer. The kidney mass might have become large and exerting pressure on the sides, thus giving you pain. 3. Fatigue: Persistent fatigue or weariness is actually a sign of kidney cancer. It is better to consult a doctor in order to make sure what is the source of weariness. 4. Weight Loss: Kidneys play an important role in metabolism and digestion. The ability to break down and absorb food will be hit if your kidneys are affected. Hence, weight loss is a common symptom of kidney cancer 5. Blood-related Issues: Kidney tumours can lead to anaemia, electrolyte or calcium imbalances or other blood-related issues. Hence, medical attention is required in these cases. 6. Diagnosis: If the doctors are able to detect kidney cancer, then they may remove the mass of infected cells through a procedure called nephrectomy. Here, the cancerous part alone is removed and the normal cells are left as they are. Even doctors may find it difficult to diagnose kidney cancer, hence it is better to go for regular body checks and scan to know of the cancer type and stage. #SignsOfKidneyCancer #KidneyCancer #RenalCancer #Kidney #Cancer Video URL : https://youtu.be/0-rEV044x_M

If your cat has an illness that is causing her to both vomit and have diarrhea, it is important to know what to do, and what not to do, to help her. Simple things like giving her the right food can make the difference between prolonged illness and a speedy recovery. When your cat is sick, it is important to keep her hydrated, know when (and when not) to feed her, and what medications to give her. Loose, frequent stools are the most common symptoms of diarrhea. Other signs include flatulence, the passage of blood in mucus or stool and straining to defecate. Lethargy, dehydration, fever, vomiting, decreased appetite, weight loss and an increased urgency to defecate may also accompany diarrhea. Welcome to Pets and Animals YouTube Channel. Whether they live exclusively indoors or spend time outside, pet cats may become host to internal parasites such as roundworms, tapeworms, and hookworms Kittens often pick up worms from the mother in her milk, while adult cats pick up worms by accidentally eating worm eggs or eating vermin infested with worms. Because it is relatively easy for a cat to acquire worms, it is a good idea to know the warning signs so you can seek veterinary treatment for the problem early on. Untreated, worms can cause symptoms such as a dull coat or a potbelly, but it is rare they make a cat seriously unwell. Getting rid of worms is relatively easy with the correct worming medication, and with a little knowledge, it's also easy to determine if your cat might have worms. can indoor cats get worms , worms in cat food , signs of roundworms in cats, cat vomiting worms , how to treat kittens with worms, signs that a kitten has worms , Source :https://youtu.be/YSWKp0N7yOE

Take a look at some invasive parasites! From zombie fish to flesh eating parasites to tongue eating lice and holes in fish heads, these parasites are really dangerous! SUBSCRIBE for the latest videos: https://goo.gl/7xzjzR` 4. Hexamita (hole in head) Just missing out on being in the top three is a parasite known as ‘hexamita’ which mainly causes the disease ‘Head and Lateral Line Erosion’ or simply ‘Hole in the head’. As hexamita starts its life inside the fish, it will reside in the intestinal tract and move throughout the host invading vital organs including the kidneys. In order to spread its spores, it needs to escape through lesions made in the head of the fish - which is then known as ‘Hole in the head’. Starting out with small indents in the head; the parasite causes initially mild conditions - including discolouration and those lesions I mentioned earlier. However, when left untreated, these small holes in the head grow larger and deeper - attracting bacteria and fungi to invade the exposed lesions and holes in the fish’s head that parasite spores escape from. It is these that cause death in the fish as the creature will eventually lose its appetite and succumb to the infection. 3. Roundworms (nematodes) Hitting in at number three is a special contender - it’s the ‘roundworm’, or more commonly known as a nematode. What makes it so special? Well, it’s simply because of how diverse they are! They can affect everything from fish, to insects, to mammals, and that includes humans like you and I. We call these types of organism ‘zoonotic’, as they can thrive in different species - similar to the fish tapeworms which came in at number 5! There are thousands of different species of roundworms, but they all work in a similar sort of way. They can cause anaemia which is a loss of red blood cells, they can hemorrhage fish and cause them to lose their balance when swimming. They also tend to fray the fish’s gills meaning that the host can’t take in the required oxygen to survive - often choking it to death or causing it to become slow and confused. They often hook into important body parts and sap energy and nutrients from them, including the liver and digestional tract. Even though these creatures are ‘zoonotic’, they might not always show the same symptoms from host to host. In humans, symptoms are usually less fatal and can cause us to have rashes, diarrhea, stomach pains and general malaise (that’s a feeling of unwellness). They are also known to cause us to lose our appetite and to lose weight. In 2012, a man from Brazil caught a zoonotic nematode after eating raw sashimi - two weeks later he was diagnosed with a parasite which caused his back to blister into red lesions. 2. Rhizocephala Rhizocephala are very similar to the shark infesting Anelasama; however, these barnacles serve as parasites to crabs. Female crabs have a ‘brood pouch’, where she keeps her eggs; this is mainly how the rhizocephala attacks its host. After being infected through a joint, the crab will have the parasite racing through its feeding tubes until they reach the brooding pouch. The rhizocephala then completely destroys the eggs inside the pouch, destroys the pouch itself and replaces it with itself; the crab is now infertile and is manipulated by the parasite to believe that it still has an egg pouch - meaning the female crab goes out of her way to protect the parasite. Well, that’s lucky for male crabs! Don’t be so sure… this parasite also attacks the brain of male crabs making them produce feminine hormones - causing the crab to believe it has an egg sack itself; and infecting it the same way… yikes! I wonder what can be worse than a parasite that tricks you into caring for it?... wait to you see what we have next... 1.Cymothoa exigua (tongue eating louse) Taking top place is the tongue eating louse, a completely destructive and terrifying parasite that has a very particular way of working. After entering the host through its gills, the louse will find the tongue of the fish. While attaching itself, it attempts to sever all the blood vessels in the tongue. The lack of blood coming to the tongue then causes necrosis (this is the scientific for dying tissue). The necrosis of the tongue kills all of the tissue making it fall off! With just a stub left, the louse attaches itself to the base of what was the fish’s tongue and replaces itself forever. Once the fish dies, the louse will detach itself from the tongue and then just reattach itself to the outside of the fish, gaining more nutrients there. What makes this worse is that this process takes a while, so many people have found fish with no tongues in their shopping! While the fish has the parasite attached, it can still use it as a real tongue with no real detriment to its health. A spooky parasite, this is the only known one in the animal kingdom to become a fully functioning organ when attached!

Symptoms: heavy abdominal breathing that sometimes seems like pre-vomiting, gradual loss of weight (cat will eat less with time, in spite of good appetite - in this case, it took a month before an eating problem became noticeable), constant slightly high temperature (39.6ºC = 103.28ºF) , occasional meowing (indicating pain). This six month old rescue cat was diagnosed with Ehrlichiosis, which is uncommon for cats. Unfortunately, the disease was too advanced, by the time the veterinarians discovered the cause of illness, and she died. Erlichiosis is treatable, but with a very aggressive antibiotic treatment, so it's advisable; if your vet confirms Erlichiosis, that you try to boost your cat's immunity; give them their favorite food so they will eat as much as possible, and, of course, always have fresh water available (this goes for healthy cats as well). For more information on this disease go to this webpage: http://www.petplace.com/cats/ehrlichiosis-in-cats/page1.aspx

Another statistic that I commonly use in practice is that cats that spend significant unsupervised time outdoors tend to live to be about 7-years-old, while indoor-only cats can be expected to make it to around 14 years of age. Diagnosis and Treatment of Feline Lymphoma. Lymphoma is a cancer of a specific white blood cell called the lymphocyte. Lymphocytes are the major cells found in lymph nodes. A cat with lymphoma may demonstrate only very vague problems. Progressive lack of appetite, lethargy and weight loss are among the most common. Depending on which organs are affected, other signs such as chronic diarrhea, vomiting and difficulty in breathing may occur. Lymphoma is a cancer of lymphocytes, which are white blood cells that are part of the immune system. It is the most common type of cancer in cats. Lymphoma can spread to many parts of a cat's body, with the gastrointestinal tract being the most common location. I use to be over weight. Lost the weight to join the Navy. Since getting out, my health has decreased. None stop problems after problems. Appendix burst, brain aneurysms, and now this unexplained weight loss, and muscle loss. I am 6'2" tall, and currently weigh 139 pounds. The pain through out my body is intense, yet the VA is refusing to test me for mesothelioma, even though I worked with Asbestos on my first ship, or even relieve my pain. I been to the VA three times this summer, complaining about the weight loss, and massive pains through out my body, but mostly in my lower back and legs. Each time I was sent home without any treatment. Ignored. All the while my 9 year old son watches his best friend die. The American Dream. And we are about to be homeless too? What else can I ask for?? Can anyone help me, us?

We are heartbroken. Our precious 5 month old kitten, Little Bear, lost his brave battle against a mysterious illness. The vet suspected FIP (feline infectious peritonitis, which is very rare and almost always fatal) even though his test for the coronavirus was negative. Although we will never know if FIP caused his death, we do know that loving him, even for his very short life of 5 months, was an honor and something we will always cherish. We will never forget you Little Bear, you were always a mama's boy, clinging to your cat mom and then to your human foster mom. You tried so hard to get well. We cured your eyes of conjunctivitis, and then your URI. We treated your tiny body for parasites and fed you with a syringe when you were no longer interested in food. We kept you warm with your heater and gave you warm steaming treatments, which you loved. We celebrated the days you felt well and played with your littermates and foster friends. You loved your triple track ball game and you were so proud when you hunted your little green mouse. You could never get close enough when you cuddled. We loved how you purred yourself to sleep. We love you and will never forget you. Fly high with the angels my baby, my sweet, sweet Little Bear. IF YOU HAVE A KITTEN RECENTLY DIAGNOSED WITH FIP: 1. Don't give up hope! FIP is often misdiagnosed (up to 40% of the time!) so your kitten may have something that is treatable, but you need to find out what it is. Diagnosis is generally made based on a combination of clinical signs, blood work, titer results and specific tests. The most common signs of FIP include a cyclic fever that is not responsive to antibiotics, lethargy, unexplained weight loss and failure to grow. 2. Please get a second opinion. You can find a cat specialist here: https://catfriendly.com/find-a-veterinarian/ 3. Be sure to have a CBC (complete blood count) and Chemistry Panel done: FIP cannot be diagnosed without blood work. 4. Learn about the coronavirus, almost all cats have been exposed to it, so a positive test to the coronavirus does NOT mean your kitten has FIP: https://ahdc.vet.cornell.edu/docs/feline_coronavirus_fcov_rt-pcr.pdf 5. If your cat is diagnosed with wet FIP, be sure your vet has tested the fluid (a Rivalta test and a PCR test). 6. Ask your vet about giving your kitten an antibiotic and/or steroid. 7. Join an online group for support, like http://www.fipfighters.com 8. For information on how to diagnosis and treat FIP, please visit http://catvirus.com. 9. To donate to help us find a cure for this cruel and deadly disease, please visit https://give.ucdavis.edu/Donate/YourGift/V483516 WHAT IS FIP? According to the ASPCA, 'Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is caused by a type of virus called a coronavirus, which tends to attack the cells of the intestinal wall. FIP manifests in a “wet” form and a “dry” form. Signs of both forms include fever that doesn’t respond to antibiotics, anorexia, weight loss and lethargy. In addition, the wet form of FIP is characterized by accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity, the chest cavity, or both. Cats with fluid in the chest exhibit labored breathing. Cats with fluid in the abdomen show progressive, nonpainful abdominal distension. FIP is fatal in more than 95 percent of cases.' Although there isn't a specific treatment for FIP, some of the medications that may be helpful to treat specific symptoms are prednisolone, veterinary biologics, interferons, and supplementing with vitamins and antioxidants. These options have been shown to extend the length of life and improve the quality of life for cats with FIP.

Gastric Diverticula have not been previously reported in cats (or dog). This case presents a 15y old Maine Coon cat who had been losing weight and eating poorly for years. Despite age, and concurrent chronic kidney disease, this patient's quality of life and body weight improved. Bruno lived to the age a 19 years. He is one of my favorite patients. Gastric diverticula should be a considered differential in cats with chronic vomiting and weight loss. Negative contrast upper GI studies (NCG) should be considered to aid in the diagnosis.
