Cancer is an abnormal growth of cells. There are more than 100 types of cancer, including breast cancer, skin cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, and lymphoma. Possible signs and symptoms include a lump, abnormal bleeding, prolonged cough, unexplained weight loss and a change in bowel movements. Many cancers can be prevented by not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, not drinking too much alcohol, eating plenty of vegetables, fruits and whole grains, not eating too much processed and red meat, and by avoiding many cancer causing foods that we have listed below. Microwave popcorn bags are lined with perfluorooctanoic acid, a compound that has been linked to various types of cancer, including liver, testicular and pancreatic cancer. Canned foods allow you to enjoy your favorite vegetables throughout the year. However, if you are concerned about your health, avoid canned food, especially canned tomatoes. The cans used to pack tomatoes and other foods are lined with a product called bisphenol A, BPA, an endocrine disruptor that may mimic or disrupt hormones and increase the risks for breast cancer, prostate cancer, early puberty, metabolic disorders, infertility, and several other problems. Farmed salmon is nowhere near as healthy as wild salmon, and eating farmed salmon puts you at a higher risk of developing cancer. Farm-raised fish are fed unnatural diets and contaminated with chemicals, antibiotics, pesticides and other known carcinogens found in materials like asbestos. Hydrogenated oils are vegetable oils, which cannot be naturally extracted like olive oil, soy or canola oil, they are chemically extracted from vegetables and is again chemically treated to change the smell and taste. This process turns unsaturated fat into a stable solid fat, resulting in trans fatty hydrogenated oil which is considered to be the worst type of fat and is known to cause cancer, heart disease, and immune system problems. Potato chips are deep-fried in temperatures above 120 degrees Celsius, which causes them to create a material called acrylamide, a well-known carcinogen found in cigarettes. Genetically modified foods (GMOs) are a rapidly growing industry and have made their way into the majority of our foods like corn, potatoes, grains and soybeans. Such food products are grown using harmful chemicals and, when consumed, can lead to immune system, brain and liver damage. Refined sugar, artificial sweeteners and fructose-rich sweeteners like high-fructose corn syrup are not good for your health. These products tend to rapidly spike insulin levels and feed the growth of cancer cells. Refined White flour contains excess carbohydrates that are not good for your health and even increase the risk of cancer. During the milling process, white flour is bleached with chlorine gas, which is highly toxic for the body. Processed meats such as ham, sausage and bacon have chemicals and preservatives like sodium nitrates, which make them bad for your health. In addition, processed meat contains excessive salt, which is also not good for you. Pickled and smoked foods are delicious but, at the same time, very harmful to the body. In fact, smoked meats that pick up tar from the smoking process cause extreme harm to your body. Plus, most pickled foods contain nitrates that turn into N-nitroso, which increases your risk of cancer.

Some cancer risk factors, such as genetics and environment, are out of your control, but research suggest that about 70% of your lifetime risk of cancer is within your power to change, including your diet. Avoiding cigarettes, limiting alcohol, reaching a healthy weight, and getting regular exercise are all great steps for preventing cancer. Adopting a healthy diet can also play a vital role. What you eat—and don’t eat—can have a powerful effect on your health, including your risk for cancer. While research tends to point to associations between specific foods and cancer, rather than solid cause-and-effect relationships, there are certain dietary habits that can have a major influence on your risk. For example, eating a traditional Mediterranean diet rich in fruit, vegetables, and healthy fats like olive oil can lower your risk for a variety of common cancers, including breast cancer. Conversely, a diet that includes a daily serving of processed meat increases your risk of colorectal cancer. Simple ways to build your cancer-prevention diet To lower your risk for many types of cancer—as well as other serious disease—aim to build your diet around a variety of antioxidant-rich fruit and vegetables, nuts, beans, whole grains, and healthy fats. At the same time, try to limit the amount of processed and fried foods, unhealthy fats, sugars and refined carbs you consume. Lower your risk with antioxidants Plant-based foods are rich in nutrients known as antioxidants that boost your immune system and help protect against cancer cells. Diets high in fruit may lower the risk of stomach and lung cancer. Eating vegetables containing carotenoids, such as carrots, Brussels sprouts, and squash, may reduce the risk of lung, mouth, pharynx, and larynx cancers. Diets high in non-starchy vegetables, such as broccoli, spinach, and beans, may help protect against stomach and esophageal cancer. Eating oranges, berries, peas, bell peppers, dark leafy greens and other foods high in vitamin C may also protect against esophageal cancer. Foods high in lycopene, such as tomatoes, guava, and watermelon, may lower the risk of prostate cancer. Add more fruit and veggies to your diet Currently, most of us fall well short of the recommended daily minimum of five servings of fruit and vegetables. To add more to your diet, focus on adding “whole” foods, as close to their natural state as possible. For example, eat an unpeeled apple instead of drinking apple juice. Breakfast: Add fresh fruit, seeds, and nuts to your whole grain, low-sugar breakfast cereal (such as oatmeal). Lunch: Eat a salad filled with your favorite beans and peas or other combo of veggies. Add lettuce, tomato, and avocado to a whole grain sandwich. Have a side of carrots, sauerkraut, or fruit. Snacks: Grab an apple or banana on your way out the door. Dessert: Choose fruit instead of sugary desserts Fill up on fiber Fiber, also called roughage or bulk, is found in fruit, vegetables, and whole grains and plays a key role in keeping your digestive system clean and healthy. It helps keep cancer-causing compounds moving through your digestive tract before they can create harm. Eating a diet high in fiber may help prevent colorectal cancer and other common digestive system cancers, including stomach, mouth, and pharynx. Choose healthy fats Eating a diet high in fat increases your risk for many types of cancer. But healthy types of fat may actually protect against cancer. Cancer Prevention – These Foods Are The Best Fighters Against Cancer! For many people the thought of cancer is so terrifying that they would skip this article only because they do not want to invoke the devil. Cancer takes millions of lives every year and can happen to you in any age in life and it often affects people who live completely healthy lives. But regardless, the fact is that having information on the prevention is the best thing you can do so you do not have the same fate as the others. About 33% of all cancers can be prevented through lifestyle. This refers primarily to healthy eating and physical activity. Recommendations for cancer prevention: Eat 5 meals of fresh fruit daily (a meal has about 100 grams) Reduce salt intake (max 6 grams daily) Reduce your intake of red meat (associated with colon cancer) max 500 grams a week Fiber intake from a variety of foods such as cereals, fruits and vegetables Increase physical activity Reduce the consumption of alcohol (one drink a day for women, two for men) Do not sunbathe a lot and be sure to apply sunscreen when you are on the beach Keep a normal body weight (obesity is associated with increased risk of cancer of the esophagus, pancreas, and kidney) Do not smoke cigarettes Eat more plant foods instead of animal Breastfeed because breastfeeding has many benefits for the mother and the child Which foods are the best fighters against cancer? Fruits and non-starch vegetables -- against cancer of the lungs, mouth, larynx, esophagus and stomach Carotenoids -- against cancer of the lungs, mouth, larynx and esophagus Tomato -- against prostate cancer White and red onions -- against cancer of the stomach, colon, rectum Folic acid -- against pancreatic cancer Fibers -- against cancer of the colon and the rectum Milk and calcium -- cancer of the colon and the rectum Vitamin C -- against cancer of the esophagus You can even enter the vitamins and minerals through supplements, but despite the supplements the reason why natural food is always recommended is because the fruits and vegetables contain hundreds of other phytonutrients beside vitamins which are not found in multivitamin tablets. Some of these substances are: flavonoids (from citrus, berries fruits, wine and dark chocolate), various pigments with antioxidant activity (from grapes, eggplant, radishes and red cabbage), quercetin (from apples, onions, tea and wine) carotenoids (from carrots, melons and apricots), lycopene (from tomatoes), lutein for the eyes (from spinach and kale)… Natural Cancer-Fighting Spice Reduces Tumors By 81% Used in the ancient Chinese and Indian systems of medicine, curcumin is a naturally powerful anticancer compound that has been found to decrease brain tumor size in animals by 81 percent in more than 9 studies. A derivative of turmeric, curcumin is the pigment responsible for turmeric’s yellow-orange color. Each 100 grams of turmeric contains around 3 to 5 grams of curcumin, though turmeric is a also very powerful on its own. New studies are shedding light on curcumin, and illuminating its numerous benefits on cancer and other diseases. Researchers experimenting with curcumin in the treatment of a fatal brain cancer known as glioblastoma (GBMs) published their groundbreaking findings in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry in July. Adding scientific basis to previous findings surrounding the positive effects of curcumin, they showed that the compound dramatically decreased brain tumors in 9 out of the 11 studies examined by 81 percent. Furthermore, there was no evidence of toxicity, whereas chemotherapy and other cancer treatments often result in extreme side effects that are sometimes worse than the actual disease. Curcumin is not only effective against brain cancer, however. According to a study conducted in 2008 and published in Cancer Prevention Research, curcumin also inhibits the growth and spread of breast cancer cells by directly impacting the function of alpha6beta4 integrin, responsible for cancer progression. Another study, performed in 2010, found that curcumin also has the potential to target cancer stem cells. Following the wave of information of curcumin, researchers who posted their findings in Molecular Pharmacology classified curcumin as a pancreatic cancer cell inhibitor back in 2009. Even more interesting is the fact that in most of these studies the researchers concluded that curcumin may also aid many different types of cancer that were not included in the trials. While an amazing anticancer substance, studies have also pinpointed curcumin as a tool against more than 572 other diseases. Some of these include, in order of study count: oxidative stress, inflammation, DNA damage, lipid peroxidation, chemically-induced liver disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and liver fibrosis. Curcumin has even been found to influence more than 700 genes, which could explain its link to DNA repair.

It serves many important bodily functions, such as eliminating food and bodily waste and removing toxins from the intestines, lymph system, blood and more. The colon is also essential when it comes to proper digestion, which is key to our overall health. There are many health conditions related to colon health which we want to avoid, such as irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease and colonic polyps. Fortunately, there are foods we can consume to increase the health of our colon and its proper functioning. Lets now discuss these foods for colon health. 1. First, fruits such as raspberries or blueberries are important for the overall health of our colon. One reason is because they are loaded with important fibre that can help flush our digestive system and promote bowel movement. Fibre is incredibly important for colon health. Raspberries, in just a one cup serving, contain about 8 grams of fibre. Along with this, they are also a great source of important vitamins, minerals and nutrients, as well as antioxidants and phytochemicals. Blueberries are especially well known for being an antioxidant powerhouse. 2. Dairy products such as yogurt and milk are also great for the overall health of our colon. This is due to the high amounts of vitamin D these products contain. Vitamin D may be able to help reduce the risk of colorectal cancer as some studies have indicated. Yogurt is especially helpful for the health of our colon since it contains healthy active bacterial cultures. These healthy bacteria help to maintain proper balance between good and bad bacteria in our bodies and support gastrointestinal health. If that wasn’t enough, dairy products also contain good amounts of calcium, which can also lower the risk of colon-related diseases and ailments. 3. If we want to improve the health of our colon, then salmon can be very beneficial for this goal. This is because salmon is a great source of healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Research suggests that when omega-3 fatty acids are consumed regularly, this may help to reduce inflammation through out the entire body, and perhaps more importantly, improve the overall function and health of colon cells. As well, salmon contains many different nutrients, as well as protein and antioxidants to support colon health. 4. Dark colored vegetables, such as broccoli and artichokes are also great for colon health for a number of different reasons. These vegetables are great sources of antioxidants and phytochemical as well as different vitamins, minerals and nutrients. Broccoli is a great source of vitamin C, a potent antioxidant. Important for overall colon health, these vegetables are packed healthy fibre. Artichokes are especially high in dietary fibre, with just one heart containing about 10 grams of fibre. These vegetables are more than just nutritious as they can help with digestion, promote bowel movements, help with the elimination of toxins in the body and may reduce the risk of colon cancer. 5. Lastly, for improved colon health, beans such as black and kidney beans are incredibly helpful in this regard. They are an excellent lean protein that can be consumed as an alternative to fatty red meats. They also contain excellent amounts of vitamins, minerals and nutrients, especially magnesium, iron and calcium. They are surprisingly high in antioxidants which can reduce inflammation through out the entire body as well as eliminate free radicals and reduce oxidative stress, benefiting our colon. The WHO (World Health Organization) has advised that a diet rich in plant-based foods (phytonutrients), prevents the growth of cancer cells. Furthermore, studies have shown that one-third of the cancers that occur every year, could be prevented by making healthier food choices. 1)Coffee: Studies display that coffee can be profitable to your health if used in moderate amounts. Coffee beans are abundant in antioxidants and several nutrients such as Vitamins B1,B2,B3,B5. Coffee is associated with the protection against some liver disorders, lowering the risk of liver cancer. Studies have also upheld the notion that caffeinated coffee may also reduce the chances of breast, colon, lung, skin and brain cancers. 2)Red Wine: Archaeology admits that wine was being made in primitive cultures some 10,000-12,000 years ago. Colon or colorectal cancer, in particular, is considered the third most common cancer in America. This type of cancer occurs in the large intestine and rectum, and also leads to the third most deaths as a result of cancer in the U.S. National Colorectal Awareness Month is March. According to the American Cancer Society, one in 20 people will develop colorectal at some point during their lifetime. Screening and testing for colorectal cancer includes a colonoscopy, a fecal occult blood test (FOBT), sigmoidoscopy, a stool DNA test, CT solonography, and a dual-contrast barium exam. Colon cancer screening leads to early detection, and precancerous polyps can be removed. However, colorectal cancer also has a direct relationship with food consumption. Dietary factors are considered the underlying cause of colorectal cancer in about 90% of all cases. A specific diet designed to fight colon cancer can greatly improve your chances of survival, especially after surgery or chemotherapy treatment. In fact, a prospective 5.3-year study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 2007 found a Western diet, or standard American diet, would triple the risk of colorectal cancer in 1,009 stage-III colon cancer patients. The study also found that a diet high in vegetables, fruits, fish, poultry, and whole grains would not lead to colorectal cancer, or death from cancer. In other words, there are effective natural ways to cure colon cancer, especially with dietary shifts. 8 Steps to Fighting Colon Cancer Naturally Through Diet Those looking to prevent cancer or supplement their current colon cancer treatment with natural cancer-fighting methods may consider the following eight steps to improve their diet and fight colon cancer naturally. 1. Eat Less Red Meat. Red meat is known to directly increase your colorectal cancer risk. Why should it be removed from your colon cancer prevention diet? A recent 11-study case-control analysis published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers & Prevention found that red meat intake increased colorectal cancer risk. The study analyzed 8,290 colorectal cancer cases and 9,115 controls. In another study published in 2004, processed meats and red meats were also linked with an increase in colorectal cancer risk. Fish or chicken, however, were not found to elevate cancer risk. Certain components of red meat can damage colon cells, and may include saturated fat and heterocyclic amines. To improve your diet and help fight colon cancer, substitute red meat options for lean protein sources like fish, chicken, or beans. 2. Consume More Plant-Based Antioxidants. Plant-based antioxidants should also be included in your dietary colon cancer treatment. Your diet should resemble the colors of a rainbow, including red or green apples, yellow or orange bell peppers, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, green leafy vegetables, avocados, blueberries, carrots, tomatoes, raspberries, and strawberries. The total antioxidant intake has a greater association with rectal cancer than cancer of the colon, according to a 2010 study published in Cancer Causes & Control. But, other studies show that greater levels of oxidative stress and inflammation in the colon result from a diet low in antioxidants. Some of the major personal risk factors for prostate cancer are age and family history. The risk of prostate cancer increases the older you get. Although approximately 75% of the cases of prostate-cancer have no pattern or order, about 20% of those with prostate-cancer have had cases of the disease in their family previously. More than 80% of prostate-cancers are diagnosed in men over the age of 65. 2.Exercise regularly. One great way to possibly reduce the risk of prostate-cancer is to exercise.
