4 Early Symptoms Of Ovarian Cancer That Every Woman Needs To Know

02:53
4 Early Symptoms Of Ovarian Cancer That Every Woman Needs To Know At present time, cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. As a matter of fact, it is responsible for 30% of the deaths in Canada alone, more than any other disease or possible cause. What is ovarian cancer? Ovarian cancer occurs when the cells of the ovaries develop tumors which then become malignant. Known as the silent killer due to what seems to be a lack of symptoms and also the difficulty of being detected in annual screenings, this kind of cancer most commonly affects post-menopausal women. However, more and more cases are now occurring in women in their 30’s and 40’s, and maybe even younger. Another problem is that many of the symptoms present are often mistaken for other diseases, such as IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), which leaves these early stage tumors undiagnosed until they reach stage 3 when they become lumps in the abdomen and pelvic area. 4 Symptoms that may be signs of Ovarian cancer Persistent bloating If you find yourself constantly getting bloated, (especially for durations of more than three weeks), and you never were before, this could be a sign that cancerous tumors are forming and growing. Lower abdominal and pelvic pain Although menstrual cramps and pain during menstruation are normal, persistent pain that lasts for more than three weeks can be a sign of ovarian cancer. Pre-menopausal women should be especially careful, as these symptoms are often easily passed off for period pain. Difficulty eating/feeling full quickly If you notice a drastic drop in appetite for more than three weeks, discuss this with your doctor. Even though it could be just a sign of a long list of stomach, intestine, and bowel issues, it could also indicate cancer. Increased need to urinate In case you find yourself visiting the toilet much more often than earlier, without any changes regarding the liquid intake, it is very likely that you have early stages of ovarian cancer. Another sign that indicates ovarian cancer is an urgent need to pee and inability to hold it. Every one of these symptoms are easily, and quite often are, mistaken for problems and diseases associated with the Gastrointestinal tract. If symptoms don’t dissipate after three weeks or longer, it’s time to make an appointment with your doctor to discuss getting checked for ovarian cancer. 4 EARLY SYMPTOMS OF OVARIAN CANCER THAT EVERY WOMAN NEEDS TO KNOW

03:27
4 EARLY SYMPTOMS OF OVARIAN CANCER THAT EVERY WOMAN NEEDS TO KNOW. The leading cause of death in the world is cancer. In Canada, a country with sophisticated cancer treatment technology, cancer claims 30% of the yearly death toll. Of course when speaking of cancer, many different variations exist. One of those would be ovarian cancer, which claimed close to 1750 deaths in Canada. In the US alone, at least 14,000 deaths per year were recorded. Ovarian cancer is a result of cells in the ovaries developing malignant tumors. Those tumors are also known as silent killers, since there is a lack of information available on them. It is actually difficult to detect ovarian cancer when screening. Ovarian cancer can occur to women who are in their 30s and 40s, maybe even younger. Early detection facilitates survival of the disease, so constant checkups with your doctor is something you should do. There’s another problem with ovarian cancer though. It’s not just a silent disease. It is also hard to detect. There are currently no reliable tests that can be used to find malignant tests, and blood tests are not reliable for detection. Additionally, the disease may be mistaken for irritable bowel syndrome, up until the point where it becomes too late for treatment. Thankfully, new research has shown that there are signs of early ovarian cancer. Regardless, women must be quite observant, to detect any problems that may show up. We’ll be showing you 4 of those symptoms below to help you out! (1) Constant Bloating. If your body is bloating often (usually for more than 2 weeks), then this could be a sign of ovarian cancer growing. Check a doctor and get tested if this is the case. (2) Lower Abdominal and Pelvic Pain. Areas where menstrual cramps can be felt can be symptoms of ovarian cancer. Pain during your menstrual cycle is normal, but if it occurs outside of your menstrual phase while persisting (again, for more than 2 weeks), then it could be ovarian cancer. This is a symptom that should be monitored with pre-menopausal women, since this can be interpreted as period pain. (3) Eating Difficulties. If your appetite is decrease for a period of longer than 3 weeks, simply speak to a doctor. The pain could signify ovarian cancer, with pain signals at a variety of areas in your stomach. (4) Need to Urinate Often. You may be in need of visiting the ladies room more often, even if you haven’t taken in too many liquids. In such a situation, you may have ovarian cancer. All of the previous symptoms are often mistaken as gastrointestinal problems. If you find yourself experiencing any of these issues, you should monitor your ovarian health persistently. 2 weeks is the checkup time for the problems, where if they don’t go away, a doctor should be contacted for a cancer check. In the end, it is primarily a woman’s responsibility to check for signs of a disease that is inherently fatal to her. You can aid other women in fighting ovarian cancer too by spreading awareness! Face behind the fight - Ovarian cancer project

Every 11 hours one woman dies of ovarian cancer in Australia. Approximately 1400 Australian women are diagnosed with the cancer each year, and nearly 900 die annually, making ovarian cancer the fourth most common cause of cancer-related death in women in Australia. The high mortality rate in ovarian cancer patients results from the diagnosis of the disease at an advanced-stage when the cancer has already spread into the peritoneal cavity. Professor Nuzhat Ahmed is working tirelessly with her team to change this outcome.

4 Early Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer That Every Woman Needs To Know

4 Early Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer That Every Woman Needs To Know !! At the present time, cancer is the leading cause of death in nearly all countries around the world. In fact, it is to blame for over 30 percent of all deaths in Canada alone, which is much more compared to any other disease. As estimated by the Canadian and American Cancer Societies, ovarian cancer had 2800 new cases and 1750 deaths in Canada, and 22,280 new cases and 14,240 deaths in the United States in 2016 alone. WHAT IS OVARIAN CANCER? Ovarian cancer develops when the cells of the ovaries form tumors that become malignant. It is often referred to as “the silent killer” as it shows little or no symptoms, which are quite difficult to detect with screening. While it is most common in post-menopausal women, it has recently started affecting younger women in their 30s and 40s. According to a recent research, early cancer detection notably increases the chances of survival, so regular check-ins are must. Unfortunately, currently there isn’t any reliable test. CA125 blood tests may give false negatives while smear tests are not capable of picking up malignant cells. There is yet another problem, though. Many of the symptoms are often mistaken for those associated with other diseases, such as irritable bowel syndrome. Consequently, the tumor gets diagnosed at stage 3, when it becomes too late. 4 SYMPTOMS THAT MAY BE SIGNS OF OVARIAN CANCER: 1. PERSISTENT BLOATING; Consistent and frequent bloating, that goes on for more than three weeks, often indicates a cancerous tumor growth. 2. LOWER ABDOMINAL AND PELVIC PAIN; Although menstrual cramps and pain during menstruation are normal, persistent pain that lasts for more than three weeks can be a sign of ovarian cancer. Pre-menopausal women should be especially careful, as these symptoms are often easily passed off for period pain. 3. DIFFICULTY EATING/FEELING FULL QUICKLY; A decrease in appetite that comes out of the blue and goes on for more than three weeks can be a sign of various ailments, among which stomach, intestine, and bowel issues are the most common. However, it can be a sign of cancer as well, so make sure you consult your doctor. 4. INCREASED NEED TO URINATE; In case you find yourself visiting the toilet much more often than earlier, without any changes regarding the liquid intake, it is very likely that you have early stages of ovarian cancer. Another sign that indicates ovarian cancer is an urgent need to pee and inability to hold it. Most of these symptoms can be easily mistaken for problems and diseases with the gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, if you experience any of them and you haven’t earlier, it is crucial to monitor their persistence and frequency. If they don’t subside in a few weeks, consult your doctor and get checked as soon as possible. Remember that monitoring our health and learning to recognize the symptoms is the key to early detection and an increased chance of survival.

LIFE Before Death Cancer Pain

DVD OUT NOW http://www.lifebeforedeath.com "Cancer Pain" Short Film 9 of 50 in the LIFE Before Death documentary series about the global crisis in untreated pain and the dramatic life changing effect palliative care services can deliver to patients and their families around the world. In this Short Film we discover that cancer is the most feared disease and the problem of cancer pain is an escalating problem worldwide. "Studies in a number of countries have shown when you ask people what disease worries them most if they thought they had it, cancer is streets ahead of anything else," reports Professor David Hill (Australia). Over 12 million people are likely to be diagnosed with cancer this year alone and 7 million will die of the disease. Cancer kills more people than AIDS and tuberculosis combined. "There are at least 5 million people who die of cancer each year with untreated pain," states Dr Kathleen Foley (USA). "We think this is an underestimate of pain in the world because there are 12 million survivors of cancer, people living with cancer, and we know about a third of them experience pain." Dr Eva Rossina Duarte Juarez (Guatemala) agrees that cancer is indeed painful. "In the situation of advanced illnesses, people need to be able to die in peace." Breast cancer patient Carmen (Australia) reflects that she doesn't fear death however she did fear the essential medications designed to treat her cancer pain. "I had a lot of pain on every level, whether it was physical or emotional." Dr Mark Boughey (Australia) of Caritas Christi Hospice in Melbourne explains, "When Carmen got here pain was the big issue... She had that really problematic neuropathic pain so you couldn't even touch her skin without her screaming and being distressed." "This problem is very much with us, it's a global problem, but also there are things we can do to bring the escalating problem of cancer under control," Professor David Hill. Carmen reflects that professional treatment of her pain brought back her sanity and quality of life. "I'm very blessed to have had this opportunity ... I've had really good care." Featuring Professor David Hill (Australia), Dr Kathleen Foley (USA), Dr Eva Rossina Duarte Juarez (Guatemala), Dr Mark Boughey (Australia), Carmen (Australia). LIFE Before Death will include 50 short films themed around pain control and end of life issues, releasing one a week for a year from May 2011. A feature film was released in early 2012 and is available at http://www.lifebeforedeath.com The project is presented by the Lien Foundation and produced by Moonshine Movies. It is also supported by the International Association for the Study of Pain, The Mayday Fund, the Union for International Cancer Control and The Institute for Palliative Medicine at San Diego Hospice International Programs. Risks for Ovarian Cancer

01:53
It’s the deadliest gynecological cancer but there’s no way to screen for it. Each year nearly 22,000 new cases of ovarian cancer are diagnosed. Dr. Sami Sandadi, a gynecologic oncologist on staff at Lee Memorial Health System, says ovarian cancer is an aggressive disease that’s usually found once it’s already at stage 3. “Unfortunately, there are about 14,000 deaths per year. It’s the second most common gynecologic malignancy; however it’s the most lethal.” But Dr. Sandadi says there’s no way to screen for it. “It’s a common misconception, women come in and say, but I had my pap smear every year, but that has nothing to do with ovarian cancer, that’s for cervical cancer.” Health experts say it’s important for women to be in tune with their bodies and be aware of symptoms like significant abdominal bloating that could last months, getting full easily, and weight gain or weight loss. “One of the most important things is family history. If there’s a significant family history of ovarian cancer or even breast cancer it heightens our senses about looking for this,” said Dr. Sandadi. Another important risk factor is age. “For the most part it’s a disease in post-menopausal women. It’s on the rare side to find it in someone who hasn’t gone through menopause,” said Dr. Sandadi. Like the cancer, the treatment is aggressive typically involving surgery and chemo therapy. “The general surgery is a hysterectomy, which means a removal of uterus and the cervix and a removal of both tubes and ovaries. The whole goal of the surgery is to get rid of all the cancer,” said Dr. Sandadi. After a four to five month treatment about 70 percent of cases are able to go into remission. Stages Of Ovarian Cancer Symptoms | 8 initial symptoms of ovarian cancer

Stages Of Ovarian Cancer Symptoms | 8 initial symptoms of ovarian cancer Ovarian cancer is one of the highest mortality cancers, but if you discover it early you can raise the survival rate to 95%. Ovarian cancer is called "silent killer". This is because, as with other types of cancer, the disease progresses considerably and subjective symptoms appear after treatment becomes difficult. As most cases are found late, the death rate per patient is the highest among gynecologic cancers. According to a recent report, only 50% of the women diagnosed with ovarian cancer can survive for 5 years from the first diagnosis. It is because there are many cases where cancer is discovered at the stage where it has progressed considerably, but medical experts say that if it is found at an early stage, survival rate can be raised up to 95%. Ovarian cancer can occur in women of any age group, but the risk increases at the age of 50 and reaches its peak at the age of 65. In order not to be too late, it is important to learn about the symptoms that may be a danger signal of ovarian cancer. However, remember that the symptoms listed below may also be related to other health problems, so do not rely on self-judgment, you must receive a doctor's diagnosis without fail. Lisa's Story: A Personal Encounter with Ovarian Cancer

02:10
Lisa Robertson shares her story of how ovarian cancer has effected her family. For more information about Super Saturday Live: http://qvc.co/SuperSaturdayLiveLR Seven years ago when QVC started with Super Saturday, I was thrilled I got to do the show. I think that anything that we do for any kind of cancer is a phenomenal, phenomenal thing. But a few years into us doing Super Saturday, I found out that my mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, it was stage four. That's usually when they find it. That means that it has metastasized. So, she went through the traditional surgery, she went through chemotherapy. It started coming back. When you've gone through the regular protocol of treatment and it hasn't worked, then you really feel oh my gosh, we're on our own. I mean you're on the internet, you're looking for clinical trials, you're calling different centers, you're talking to doctors, you're trying to find a way out. So, I called a good friend of mine, who has a good friend who's an oncology doctor. This woman calls my mom at ten at night, on a weekend, is on the phone with her for an hour. In a matter of days, this woman who we have never met, had my mom in another clinical trial. When you go through something very difficult, you realize that there are wonderful, wonderful people who just come out of nowhere to help. My mother was someone who was always warm and someone who was always willing to help, always welcoming, people immediately felt safe with her. And they should have. We lost her a few years ago to ovarian cancer and she did everything she could possibly do with what was available at the time. If my mother was diagnosed today, she would have a better chance than if she would have been diagnosed when she was. I just want this to not be as frightening, I want a woman to feel that if she is diagnosed with this, she has a chance and she has a good chance. We have a lot of progress that we need to make with ovarian cancer, but I think we're getting there.

10 Early Warning Signs of Ovarian Cancer Every Woman Should Know

09:25
10 Early Warning Signs of Ovarian Cancer Every Woman Should Know Ovarian cancer primarily affects women 50 years of age and older. It can occur in several parts of the ovaries, which are located on either side of the uterus. It may spread to the lining of the abdomen, bowel and bladder as well as to the lymph nodes, lungs and liver. Although ovarian cancer accounts for only about 3 percent of cancers affecting women, it causes more deaths than other cancers affecting the female reproductive system, according to American Cancer Society (ACS). The ACS estimates that about 21,290 women in the United States will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer by 2015. Experts do not know the exact cause of ovarian cancer, but there are certain factors that can put you at higher risk. Such factors include being 50 or older, family history, never giving birth, starting menstruation at an early age, going through menopause after age 50, certain medications, smoking, obesity and history of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). It is more common in white women than African-Americans. When the tumor starts developing in an ovary, symptoms may be vague or not apparent, but they become more noticeable during later stages. Moreover, the symptoms are very nonspecific and can indicate a number of different conditions. This is why it has been dubbed as ‘The Silent Killer’. Often, women discover ovarian cancer at later stages due to unavailability of any reliable screening method. Doctors use pelvic exams, ultrasound scans and blood tests for cancer-related markers to detect the disease. It is important for women to know their body and take care of it properly. If any changes occur in the body, it is highly recommended to consult a doctor.

If any changes occur in the body, it is highly recommended to consult a doctor. Here are the early warning signs of ovarian cancer. 1. Pelvic or Abdominal Pain The growth of a tumor in an ovary causes pelvic or abdominal pain. The tumor exerts pressure on and around the surrounding areas, leading to intense pain. In cases of ovarian cancer, the pain persists for weeks. 2. Uncomfortable or Painful Intercourse Painful intercourse, medically known as dyspareunia, is another early indication of ovarian cancer. The presence of a tumor in or around the area surrounding an ovary can make intercourse extremely painful. There may even be mild vaginal bleeding after the intercourse. 3. Abdominal Bloating or Swelling General discomfort in the lower abdomen may also indicate that something is wrong with your ovaries. Symptoms like bloating, expansion of your belly, gas, indigestion, heartburn and nausea are common. 4. Frequent or Urgent Need to Urinate Sudden changes in urinary habits can also be a symptom of ovarian cancer. There may be changes in the frequency of urination, loss of bladder control (incontinence) or spotting blood with urine. 5. Difficulty Eating or Getting Full Quickly If you are a good eater and suddenly notice a loss of appetite or you are getting full after eating just a few bites of food, this is not a good sign. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Our Social Links: Subscribe To Our Channel : https://goo.gl/7YPKcz For more tips see our blog: https://naturalhealthcarenhc.blogspot.com like us in Facebook: https://goo.gl/MmjtyD Follow us on twitter: https://goo.gl/USDg3k Google plus: https://goo.gl/B5B2oz Special thanks to: http://www.top10homeremedies.com If you found this information cool, useful or valuable please hit share and let your friends benefit from this as well!

When ovarian cancer strikes, everyone is affected: patients, spouses, children, parents, friends. Every 24 minutes, a woman is diagnosed with ovarian cancer (almost 22,000 new cases every year). "Every day that passes without a cure means the suffering and death of countless women," says David Fishman, MD, Director of the National Ovarian Cancer Early Detection Program (NOCED) at Mount Sinai. "Our number one priority is to help save women's lives. There's nothing more rewarding than that." At Mount Sinai, we believe that the best treatment begins with early detection. Testing could prevent 80,000 cancer cases | Breaking News US/Australia

02:14
★More News Channel - Entertainment Video►► http://bit.ly/2zUac3v Testing  all women over 30 for genetic mutations could save more than 80,000 from getting cancer, research suggests. The faults, such as the BRCA gene mutation famously carried by Angelina Jolie, significantly raise cancer risk.Currently only women known to have family with the dangerous genes are offered DNA blood tests. But experts at Barts Cancer Institute in London have calculated that if all 26million British women over 30 were tested, 64,500 would be spared breast cancer they would otherwise develop at some stage.Another 17,500 would be saved from an ovarian cancer diagnosis, doctors said. This works out at roughly 2 per cent of breast and 3 per cent of ovarian cancer cases being prevented every year. In all, 27,000 cancer deaths would be prevented. The blood tests cost £175 each but the researchers calculated that the extra money to put in place a screening programme would be cost-effective because it pales in comparison with the cost of cancer treatment.Diagnosing and treating a woman with breast cancer, for example, costs the NHS at least £30,000 – a figure that can soar if they require expensive hormone or immunotherapy treatments.Mutated BRCA genes, and other mutations such as those of the RAD51, BRIP1 and PALB2 genes, cause a dramatically increased risk of developing certain cancers, particularly those of the breast, ovaries and fallopian tubes.Only about three women in every thousand carry the genes, but for those who do, the consequences can be grave. A woman carrying a BRCA mutation, for example, has a 70 per cent chance of developing breast cancer, up from 12 per cent for other women, and a 44 per cent chance of ovarian cancer, up from 2 per cent.Actress Miss Jolie chose to have her breasts, ovaries and fallopian tubes removed in 2013, then aged 36, to reduce her risk after her mother died of ovarian cancer at 56. Around half of women who find out they are carrying the mutation choose to have surgery – the only effective way of reducing their risk – and the researchers based their calculations on the assumption this would stay roughly the same with population-wide screening.Study leader Dr Ranjit Manchanda, consultant gynaecological oncologist at Barts, said: ‘Our findings support the concept of broadening genetic testing for breast and ovarian cancer genes across the entire population, beyond the current criteria-based approach.I had a mastectomy at 31 - but I feel lucky   Josephine Torrington has lost her mother, grandmother and two aunts to cancer, while her sister and cousin have also been diagnosed. The family carries a genetic mutation of the BRCA gene, which significantly raises their risk of breast and ovarian cancer. Despite this, the 31-year-old, left, was told she had the mutation only a little over a year ago. In October, she underwent a double mastectomy to cut her breast cancer risk. The primary school teacher from Portsmouth, who is single, is about to

New Findings on Surgery for Women With Cancer Genes

03:58
I'm Alex Villarreal with the VOA Special English Health Report, from http://voaspecialenglish.com | http://facebook.com/voalearningenglish Every year, one million women around the world are found to have breast cancer. Almost two hundred thousand others are told they have ovarian cancer. The decisions for treatment are more difficult when the women have abnormal versions of two genes called BRCA1 and BRCA2. The mutations in these genes can also increase the risk for other kinds of cancer, including cancer of the cervix, uterus and pancreas.Sandra Cohen has never had breast cancer or ovarian cancer. But she has the BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations. So she decided to have doctors remove her breasts and ovaries. She made the decision after her mother and grandmother both died from the same kind of cancers. Doctors have known for several years that preventative surgery reduces the risk of ovarian and breast cancer for women with the mutations. But a new study also shows that these operations help those patients live longer. The four-year study involved about two thousand five hundred women with the genetic mutations. One of the researchers was Dr. Susan Domchek at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. She said: "Women who had their ovaries removed had a decrease in the risk of breast cancer and a decrease in the risk of ovarian cancer. In addition, they were less likely to die of breast cancer, less likely to die of ovarian cancer and also had an improvement in their overall survival." The study found that none of the women who had preventative breast removal developed breast cancer. Seven percent later did among those who decided against the surgery. The rate of breast cancer was also seven percent among women who did not have their ovaries removed. Among those who did, the breast cancer rate was one percent. The study also found that the women who had their ovaries removed lowered their risk of death from ovarian cancer by almost eighty percent. Their risk of death from breast cancer was fifty-six percent lower, says Dr. Domchek. The researchers say women with a strong family history of breast or ovarian cancers should get genetic testing. Sandra Cohen did.She says: "Do some research with a genetic counselor. Meet some other women who have gone through it. It really will empower you to take some action." The study appeared in JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association. For VOA Special English I'm Alex Villarreal. (Adapted from a radio program broadcast 22Sept2010)

Using Ginger To Kill Ovarian Cancer Cells

02:14
If you received value from this video you may also be interested in the new Kindle version of my book "Beating Ovarian Cancer: Reclaiming Your Life". You can get it here. http://amzn.to/1blZRwz Ginger is used as an effective remedy for nausea and inflammation, but... Did you know ginger kills ovarian cancer cells? Yep, it's true! Researchers from the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center found that ginger not only kills ovarian cancer cells, but it also prevents them from building up resistance to treatment - which is a common problem for ovarian cancer patients. In this study, the scientists applied a solution of ginger powder and water to ovarian cancer cells. In every single test they found the cancer cells died as a result of being in contact with the ginger solution. The cancer cells either digested or attacked themselves or they committed suicide. I'm a big fan of fresh ginger and I use plenty of it, especially in my green drinks. But lots of people don't care for ginger and have a hard time eating it. The great news is that the ginger powder they used in this study is similar to what's sold in grocery stores. So think about it... you don't have to eat fresh ginger if you don't like it. You can take the powder in capsules with plenty of water. After all the powder is what was used in the study! So if you haven't incorporated ginger in your diet, now is a perfect time to start.

Exercise Can Reduce The Risk Of Ovarian Cancer

01:11
Two new studies suggest lack of exercise is associated with an increased risk of ovarian cancer and of death from the disease. In one study, the researchers analyzed data from more than 8,300 ovarian cancer patients and more than 12,600 women without ovarian cancer. Those who said they had done no recreational physical activity during their lives were 34 percent more likely to develop ovarian cancer than those who exercised regularly, the researchers found. The link between inactivity and a higher risk of ovarian cancer was seen in both normal-weight women and those who were overweight or obese. The findings were recently published online in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention. Kirsten Moysich is a professor of oncology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, in Buffalo, N.Y., and the senior author of both studies. She told UPI, "Women may be overwhelmed with mixed messages about physical activity or exercise recommendations and opt to be inactive because they feel that they cannot meet the recommended amount of physical activity." Screening for Ovarian Cancer

01:46
It’s one of the most common cancer deaths for women, but doctors say there’s no way to screen for ovarian cancer. Dr. Fadi Abu Shahin, a gynecologic oncologist on the medical staff of Lee Health, says common symptoms of ovarian cancer are bloating, indigestion, and change in appetite. “For many years we thought of ovarian cancer as the silent killer, because most women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer at an advanced stage, stage three and four when the cancer had already spread in the abdomen.” Ovarian cancer can include more than one disease. It can be a cancer of the ovary and fallopian tube. It often goes undetected until its spread throughout the pelvis and stomach. “At this point, there’s no approved screening that has shown that it makes a difference. For a screening test of ovarian cancer to be approved and used it has to show that it’s going to allow us to diagnose those cancers early, to make a difference in terms of outcomes, and survival, and cure rates for patients,” said Dr. Shahin. At this time, studies show screening for ovarian cancer would cause more harm than good. “The largest study that was done here in the United States shows that you hurt more women by trying to screen for ovarian cancer than the women you help,” said Dr. Shahin. But doctors are addressing a patient’s symptoms and family genetics. “Women who have a strong family history of ovarian and breast cancer should be evaluated to find out if they carry genes that predispose to that cancer,” said Dr. Shahin. Making it important to know your body and your family history. Breaking News One - Testing could prevent 80,000 cancer cases

Breaking News One - Testing could prevent 80,000 cancer cases Testing  all women over 30 for genetic mutations could save more than 80,000 from getting cancer, research suggests. The primary school teacher from Portsmouth, who is single, is about to start having her eggs harvested so she can have her ovaries removed Source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-5282203/Testing-prevent-80-000-cancer-cases.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490
New Treatments for Ovarian Cancer

01:39
It’s one of the most common cancer killers for women. Doctors say while there’s no way to screen for ovarian cancer there are ways to treat it early. Dr. Fadi Abu Shahin, a gynecologic oncologist on the medical staff of Lee Health, says each year 23,000 women in the U.S. are diagnosed with ovarian cancer. “The problem with ovarian cancer is a majority of women are diagnosed with advanced stage so the mortality rate of ovarian cancer is much higher.” Doctors say the symptoms are few and many go unnoticed, like bloating, change in appetite, or indigestion. There’s no way to screen for ovarian cancer, but if a patient is predisposed to the cancer there are new early treatments. “One of the new, recent, exciting things that we have in the treatments of ovarian cancer is targeted therapies. So women that we know that carry the mutation are now candidates for targeted therapy for ovarian cancer,” said Dr. Abu Shahin. Targeted therapy focuses on treating the specific mutations in the cells. “This is an exciting step beyond the chemotherapy, which targets all the cells in our body, cancer and normal cells,” said Dr. Abu Shahin. Doctors say targeted therapy is an option for women who are predisposed to ovarian cancer. “Women who have a strong family history of ovarian and breast cancer should be evaluated to find out if they carry genes that predispose to that cancer,” said Dr. Abu Shahin. If a patient is diagnosed with ovarian cancer other treatments are chemotherapy and surgery. GINGER and CANCER , How Ginger Destroys Prostate,Ovarian and Colon Cancer Better than Chemo

GINGER and CANCER , How Ginger Destroys Prostate,Ovarian and Colon Cancer Better than Chemo. A new study reveals ginger contains a pungent compound that could be up to 10,000 times more effective than conventional chemotherapy in targeting the cancer stem cells at the root of cancer malignancy. A new study published in PLoS reveals a pungent component within ginger known as 6-shogaol is superior to conventional chemotherapy in targeting the root cause of breast cancer malignancy: namely, the breast cancer stem cells. As we have discussed in greater detail in a previous article titled, “Cancer Stem Cells: The Key To Curing Cancer,” cancer stem cells are at the root of a wide range of cancers, not just breast cancer, and are sometimes referred to as “mother cells” because they are responsible for producing all the different “daughter” cell types that makeup the tumor colony. While cancer stem cells only constitute between .2 and 1% of the cells within any given tumor, they have the seeming “immortal” ability to self renew, are capable of continuous differentiation, are resistant to conventional chemotherapeutic agents, and are tumorigenic, i.e. are capable of “splitting off” to create new tumor colonies. Clearly, the cancer stem cells within a tumor must be destroyed if cancer treatment is to affect a lasting cure. The new study titled, “6-Shogaol Inhibits Breast Cancer Cells and Stem Cell-Like Spheroids by Modulation of Notch Signaling Pathway and Induction of Autophagic Cell Death,” identified powerful anti-cancer stem cell activity in 6-shogaol, a pungent constituent of ginger produced when the root is either dried or cooked. The study also found that the cancer-destroying effects occurred at concentrations that were non-toxic to non-cancerous cells – a crucial difference from conventional cancer treatments that do not exhibit this kind of selective cytotoxicity and therefore can do great harm to the patient. The authors of the study further affirm these points: “Cancer stem cells pose serious obstacle to cancer therapy as they can be responsible for poor prognosis and tumour relapse. To add into the misery, very few chemotherapeutic compounds show promise to kill these cells. Several researchers have shown that cancer stem cells are resistant to paclitaxel, doxorubicin, 5-fluorouracil, and platinum drugs [8, 16]. CSCs are thus an almost unreachable population in tumours for chemotherapy. Therefore any compound, that shows promise towards cancer stem cells, is a highly desirable step towards cancer treatment and should be followe“Cancer stem cells pose serious obstacle to cancer therapy as they can be responsible for poor prognosis and tumour relapse. It exhibits cytotoxicity (cell killing properties) against monolayer (1-dimensional cancer model) and spheroid cells (3-dimensional cancer model).
