Full Title: Electronic Tutorials with Dichotomous Tests in Mother Tongue Teaching - The Wrong Way of Learning Languages in Changing Times Description: Our presentaion is about educational research of study results in Czech orthography at primary schools which was initiated and designed in a partnership with primary schools in the Czech Republic where investments in computer labs moved the students to the computer screen, where the training is based on dichotomous exercises and their results in classicaly written tests are worse than computer tests. The researchers showed that the dichotomous exercises in language tutorials are due to the focus on isolated words an inappropriate tool for teaching orthography and, therefore, they should not be used as the sole means of e-learning technology in Czech language teaching.

Living in Two Worlds is a 26 minute documentary made by Indigenous Media Scholarship students and a partnership between the OPEN CHANNEL, NITV, City of Port Phillip and St Kilda Youth Services. The film was produced by Open Channel students Lisa Maza, Aretha Briggs, Tim Church and Arthur Jackson working with industry mentors Alan Collins ACS, Rima Tamou and Peter Worland. Living in Two Worlds gives voice to the 'Parkies', a group of mostly indigenous people who congregate in the park. It also follows Dave Arden, a proud Kookatha/Gunditjmarra man and well renowned songwriter/musician, who also spent time in the park. They come together at Yalukit Wilam Ngargee Indigenous music festival, where the 'Parkies marshal, and Dave and his band play. These unique stories highlight family, culture, identity, connection and the resilience of people living in two worlds.

The youth were encouraged to reflect on their history and current issues in society, and to include footage and reflections on Richmonds National Aboriginal Day events which celebrate Aboriginal identity. The video is to be used to support teaching about healing and reconciliation. The video is used with permission from the Richmond Youth Services Agency.

The dialogue hosted 120 community leaders involved in the reconciliation of specific injustices, government officials, decision-makers from major institutions and members of the public. About Naveen Girn Naveen Girn is a cultural researcher and community engagement specialist whose interests center on Vancouver's South Asian community, intercultural oral history and curation. The National Arts Centre hosted a timely panel discussion on art in the context of reconciliation moderated by Dr. Marie Wilson, Commissioner Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, and featuring panelists Rachael Maza, acclaimed Australian theatre director of Jack Charles V The Crown (presented at the NAC), Joseph Boyden, author of the award-winning novels Three Day Road and The Orenda, and John Estacio, JUNO award nominated composer of I Lost My Talk, a new work inspired by the poem of Mi’kmaw elder Rita Joe. The panel discussion was introduced by The Right Honorable Joe Clark. Dr. Jeff Reading Director of the Centre for Aboriginal Health Research based at the University of Victoria (UVic) Professor in the School of Public Health and Social Policy, Faculty of Human and Social Development, UVic Dr. Reading’s research has brought attention to such critical issues as disease prevention, tobacco use and misuse, healthy living, accessibility to health care, and diabetes among Aboriginal people in Canada. His determination to develop solutions contributed to the creation of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research - Institute of Aboriginal Peoples’ Health in 2000 as part of a movement calling for a national advanced research agenda in the area of Aboriginal health. The outcome of the CIHR-IAPH is to improve the health of Aboriginal Peoples’ living in Canada and work collaboratively to improve indigenous peoples’ health globally.

Presented by Chief Bellegarde, Chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Saskatchewan is in the middle of an unprecedented resource boom. With oil and gas in the south, potash in central Saskatchewan and uranium in the North, along with promising mineral plays in various locations,Saskatchewan's economy is growing rapidly. First Nations are determined to benefit from the boom, as Treaty Peoples with strong ties to the land and with promises from government that we will benefit from development. With duty to consult and accommodate requirements in place, Saskatchewan First Nations have become national leaders in working out appropriate collaboration and impact and benefit agreements with companies and governments. Much more can be done. More First Nations can be employed on the resource projects. Greater care can be taken to protect our traditional lands and protect our people from harm. There are important business opportunities for First Nations companies that remain to be developed. First Nations will not stand in the way of properly managed development that is based on consultations and agreements with our communities, but nor will First Nations agree to open-ended development strategies that do not return a fair share of the benefits from resource development with the Saskatchewan First Nations.

The evening was a one of a kind presentation of culturally appropriate art work used for the last 25 years of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Native American communities to prevent the spread of the virus and to enhance community access to treatment.

Free News Sharing and On-Line Art Gallery http://www.ciactivist.org FEATURE: The 2016 Fire and Rain art project that began in early January was inspired by news stories on wildfires that burned throughout Western Canada in 2015. Paintings were displayed outdoors publicly throughout Edmonton and their stories shared on YouTube. I used art from the beginning to defend freedom of expression on the Alberta Legislature grounds when it was verbally banned 3 times by Legislature officials. Some of the YouTubes published shared how the wildfires and flooding that followed affected Albertans, their communities and the environment. I hope my art and the stories shared will inspire us to contemplate the calamities in Alberta of 2016 as a collective and together help each other find ways and better solutions to save our planet and our children's future. Wahzhazhe: An Osage Ballet

The Osage ballet, Wahzhazhe, is a contemporary ballet that brings together unique and diverse qualities of Oklahoma history and culture: a reverence for classical ballet that was the legacy of two famous Osage ballerinas, Maria and Marjorie Tallchief, and the richness of Osage traditional music, dance, and textile arts. The creative set designs transform the stage into accurate depictions of Osage lifestyles and the costumes are created to appear as the traditional tribal clothing that was worn during the past 200 years. The ballet depicts the history of the Osage people: their removal from their homelands, the boarding-school era, the discovery of oil on their reservation, which lead to great wealth and tragedy, and the celebration of Osage life today. Wahzhazhe is produced by Randy Tinker Smith and choreographed by Jenna Smith, both of Osage descent. Roman Jasinski acted as adviser on the project. This performance was recorded on March 23, 2013 in the Rasmuson Theater of the National Museum of the American Indian.

The video was realized by the First Nations University of Canada under the supervision of Dr. Carrie Bourassa and Dr. Fidji Gendron. The video shows different plants, how to recognize them, and how they are used by First Nations and Métis people. Plants collected during this walk are now on display in the Medicine Room at the First Nations University of Canada.
