CoQ10, or Coenzyme Q10, is a substance which is found in every cell of your body. Your body makes it and your cells use it to produce energy your body needs for cell growth and maintenance. It was first identified in the mid-1950s as a molecule essential to energy production in cells, where it is found in the mitochondria - the "powerhouses" of the cell. Coenzyme Q10 can exist in 3 different oxidation states – fully oxidized ubiquinone, radical semiquinone intermediate, and fully reduced ubiquinol (this is the active antioxidant form). Although it is produced naturally in the human body, production wanes considerably with age and in the presence of various diseases. In addition, a few medications, particularly cholesterol-lowering statin drugs, can also interfere with Coenzyme Q10 production. Benefits of Coenzyme Q10 The main Coenzyme Q10 benefit involves its role in the creation of an essential molecule known as adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which helps direct energy where it is needed within a cell and the body. Tips for low cortisol, most people are treating adrenals as if they have high cortisol when the problem may be low cortisol. Low cortisol happens when the stressor sucks up all the raw materials to make cortisol. All of the pregnenolone and progesterone have been stolen and there is nothing left to make cortisol. What happens here is strange. These are a few things you may see with low cortisol: 1. Weird / tremor anxiety 2. Feelings of "tension" 3. Feel like blood sugar is always low. Cortisol helps blood sugar get into the cell. Feeling of hunger and low blood sugar even after meeting. The best test is 4x Cortisol plus DHEA. Can find through a practitioner or go to http://canaryclub.org and order the test. Most people talk about high cortisol and the herbs to treat that. But if you have low cortisol you need to do different things, not lower it even more. My favorite things for low cortisol: 1. Licorice root extract. Use as a tea or tincture. Do in morning shot. Nothing “pops” like it does with the fitness and bodybuilder guys you see in the magazines, movies and online” Harder, Fuller, Vascular Muscles However, there are some “secrets” or proven tactics to getting harder, fuller, vascular/veiny looking muscles and I’ll reveal them today. Tip #1 - Leaner Is Better What’s important to note is that I’m 6’3”, but only weight 200 lbs. So I give the ILLUSION of “looking” bigger because I’m lean and under 10% body fat. So, that’s the first secret - you have to get lean. When you’re lean, you’ll have more muscle separation, you’ll have more veins and thus, your muscles will “pop” more because they’re not hiding under a layer of fat. Tip #2 - Hydrate Normally I’m fuller than these pictures and more vascular as the day progresses because I’ve had a lot more water, electrolytes, carbohydrates, food and minerals. These pictures were taken first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach with very little water, so I was “flat”, rather than being “full”. This is one problem with people who are always on a low-carb diet (ketogenic, paleo, intermittent fasting, etc.) . They look flat and depleted, even when they are lean. Carbs help fill out your muscles because they hold 3x their weight in water. When your muscles are hydrated, you’ll look fuller, bigger and harder.. And your blood volume will also be higher and thus, you’ll be more vascular too. HOWEVER, I put Himalayan or Celtic salt in my water and on my food. This keeps me hydrated and that’s the secret. My workouts are a lot better too. I’m stronger and I get better pumps. However, REAL salt does the opposite - it retains the water in your muscles, not under the skin. Tip #3 - Improve Insulin Sensitivity The problem with having carbs is NOT higher blood sugar, but poor insulin sensitivity. In fact, the more muscle you have and the lower your body fat, the better your insulin sensitivity, the MORE carbs you can eat, the easier it is to gain muscle and lose fat. More salt and water will also help improve insulin sensitivity, so keep doing that. Better sleep, has lots of benefits, including better insulin sensitivity as well. Tip #4 - Specific Workouts How you exercise, what you do, how often all can make a huge difference in how you look. First, you need to lift heavier weights to create a more dense, harder looking muscle. Do sets at 6-8 reps to hit your fast-twitch muscles, as well as higher 10-15 reps. Both are needed. Secondly, exercising too much, too often, too long causes stress hormones such as cortisol and aldosterone to go up, while also DECREASING insulin sensitivity and testosterone levels. The end result not only will you start to lose muscle and also gain fat, but your muscles will be depleted, flat and “stringy” looking. While this can be overcome by sugar fixes initially, in mild Adrenal Fatigue – and that’s why people take Coca-Cola, or Pepsi Cola, or pop drinks, as well as donuts or juices to give themselves that little boost, this is only a quick fix, and usually the symptoms will come back after only a short time, usually within one or two hours. - Hypoglycemia is also related to the autonomic nervous system dysfunction. Secondly, we have a musculoskeletal system breakdown. Now, collagen and protein are broken down in a catabolic state of function during Adrenal Fatigue. This can lead to chronic pain syndromes, joint pain, chronic fatigue, and fibromyalgia. - As cortisol goes up, one of the side effects of this hormone is the breakdown of protein, resulting in an overall net catabolic state, meaning the amount of buildup of the muscle is less than the amount of breakdown, so as a result, broken down muscles are not adequately replaced. Collagen is broken down without significant replenishment. Outwardly, wrinkles start to develop as premature aging sets in. Internally, organs and muscle breakdowns tends to lead to chronic muscle and joint pains of unknown origin, especially after strenuous exercise or heavy lifting. - Adrenal Fatigue therefore is often associated with poor ability to digest protein, as well as the gastrointestinal systems tend to slow down. This will only add to the musculoskeletal pain and syndromes. It should come, therefore, as no surprise that that secondary fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue are commonly associated with adrenal exhaustion. - Because Adrenal Fatigue can lead to insomnia, sleep disturbances, brain fog, anxiety and depression if the central nervous system is involved. Peripheral nervous system dysfunction is often associated with orthostatic hypertension, dizziness, lightheadedness, temperature intolerance, fainting spells, tingling and numbness sensation of extremities, as well as sweating disregulation. - Chronic lack of sleep is strongly associated with decreased immunity, as well, and impaired glucose intolerance, as well as the decreased alertness and concentration. Cortisol, DHEA, testosterone, and estrogen are key hormones produced by the adrenals, - Those with advanced Adrenal Fatigue are strongly associate with an increase in fear, anxiety, depression, as well as difficulty concentrating. - A lot of people also complain of brain fog, which is a mental state where the memory becomes clouded or unclear.
