http://nscmh.blogspot.com NSCMH presentation for Grand Opening 10 Nov 2011, officiated by DYMM Tuanku Muhriz. Note: I do not own the music in this vid. NSCMH Takes the Beaten Track to Reach New Grounds: NSCMH has a long history dating back from 1932 when it was first established as the NS Chinese Maternity Hospital. Its location then was at No. 6 Lemon Street, Seremban. With the support of public funds, under the management of a Colonial Govt. officer and 5 Chinese representatives, it provided maternity services to the local community. Subsequently, this non-profit hospital was relocated to Jalan Templer, Seremban (now renamed Jalan Tun Dr. Ismail) when it was awarded 5 acres of govt. land. Its official opening at the new site was on 19 Aug 1935. A double-storey building, Block A, now renamed Blok Aw Boon Haw and Aw Boon Par, was built through the benevolence of 2 philanthropist brothers from Singapore, Mr. Aw Boon Haw and Mr. Aw Boon Par, who contributed RM17,000. The generosity of the public also helped to purchase furniture as well a medical and surgical supplies and much-needed equipment. In its endeavours to provide essential services to the public at very nominal rates, the hospital suffered financial difficulties. This problem was eased by local doctors who provided medical services on a voluntary basis. However, there were still many challenges faced due to constraints like shortage of medical expertise, staff & equipment. Recognizing a need for reorganization & to relook its role in society, the hospital management embarked on plans to transform the hospital into a Medical Centre, instead of limiting its services to maternity support. In 1980, NSCMH Medical Centre became a reality, with 50 beds, increasing to 75 bed within 6 years. However, with the emergence of 3 private profit-making hospitals, the hospital suffered a setback in revenue and ran into losses. Nevertheless, its outpatient clinic charging a mere RM15 for poor patients which includes consultation with a family physician plus 5-days basic medication has never been discontinued. On 16 Nov 2006, a new President, Dato' Nellie S. L. Tan-Wong, took over the helm of the hospital, together with a new Management Committee. A redevelopment plan & fundraising campaign were launched. The substantial funds raised by the new committee were used to purchase new medical equipment including a CT Scan & an MRI & a mobile van & 2 ambulances, construct a modern Labour Ward, Specialist Clinics, a Physiotherapy Centre with state-of-the-art German Physio equipment, a contemporary Imaging Dept. & an extra floor at Block B, renamed Puan Sri Datin Alice Lee Block for a Geriatrics Ward, a Training Hall, Administration Dept., Conference Room & President's Room. It also initiated the operation of Evening Specialist Clinics at Block C, now renamed Blok Tan Lam Hui, a Traditional & Complementary Medicine Centre including a Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic, operated by INTI International University College & other operators of an Ayurvedic Traditional Centre & an Ozone cum Chelation Centre. A Dialysis Centre will be soon constructed with a capacity of 26 machines. An NSCMH Youth Support Group was also formed to provide Red Crescent youth members with home nursing training. Besides, the hospital now provides training placements for nursing students from the Nilai International University College. The hospital has also initiated Medical Tourism with a number of towns in Sumatra & Jakarta City. There will also be an MOU signing with the Berjaya College of Nursing and the International Medical University. The grand opening of the newly-renovated Block B, now renamed Puan Sri Datin Alice Lee Block is scheduled to take place on 10 Nov 2011, officiated by DYMM Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir, the Yang Di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan& the Royal Patron of NSCMH. This session is underwritten by a partnership with REGUS - http://regus.com Everything is foreseeable. Anyone can be found accountable. Plan for Crisis: Plans will not solve or even prevent a crisis. But, the right plan, individually tailored to your business or organization, will determine whether your company will survive the disaster. If You're Not Testing, You're Planning for Failure: The daily task of running an organization requires the continual focus of those who are responsible. Plans cannot be expected to work properly unless they have been tested prior to their actual implementation in an emergency. Practicing emergency response helps assure that the response can proceed predictably during a crisis or disaster. Everyone has a role in a crisis. Some are strategic. Some are tactical. How decisions are made in a crisis is critical to the outcome. For this reason, the success of any Emergency or Continuity Plan depends upon its routine testing, audits and updates. web-Jim-1-headshot300pxJames (Jim) W. There are many reasons why a building, or a group of buildings may need to be evacuated including: • Fires • Chemical Spills • Toxic or Explosive Gas Releases, • Explosions • Violent Behaviour, and • Bomb Threats. The larger the building, the more organisation is required to ensure everyone is evacuated effectively and as safely as possible. But regardless of the size or type of building or buildings, or number of employees, every organisation should have a tried and tested evacuation plan. This program covers: • The Evacuation Plan • The Evacuation Team • The Chief Warden • Your Responsibility • Training and Practice Every Building must have a tried and tested evacuation plan, and everyone must be familiar with it, and know their role.

Hurricanes, violent stalkers, food poisoning ... there are many things that can derail an event that are out of our control. We convened the week after the Boston Marathon bombing to discuss what event and meeting planners can do to minimize risk, limit liability, protect attendees and educate themselves and others about the steps that need to happen during an emergency. In this video we discuss: • How to work with venues, vendors and hotels. • How to develop (and customize) a crisis plan. • What other elements go into crisis plans. • How (and when) to share these plans with staff, clients, vendors, hotels and attendees. • Ways you can (and should) protect your attendees. • Why hotels would be better off giving away emergency supplies than tchotkes at trade shows. There were other things we couldn't cover, but we will in future broadcasts with other panelists. So stay tuned. And follow @PYMLIVE and the hashtag #pymcrisis to learn more.

The concept of equipping information technology to the field operative is not a new one. As far back as 1992, the United States Military experimented with an "integrated, protective ensemble" for its forces and Kotay who argued for the potential benefits is derived from data analysis in the field by the mobile agent proposed the technology and ultimately what would become the model for the network solider as early as 1992. The authors promoted the idea of a transportable agent to gather and assess information at the client (in this case the operative), process (analyze) the data and pass it along to a central server (command). These agents allow remote data, management and assessment at an expedited rate and allows for streamlining of relevant information to the server. This model evolved into the solider integrated protective ensemble and subsequently became the generation two solider and ultimately into the Land Warrior Program. The Land Warrior model explored the benefits of data analysis in the field and was fully developed so that a range of information could be transferred to and from the battlefield via a push pull model. The net cumulative research has evolved into a platform for the networked solider and allowed for the translation of theory into practice through deployment in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007.The technology for remote data analysis, therefore, exists but is currently restricted to battlefield situations. The exploration of the evolution of the technology for remote triage and casualty management emerged in 2002. As a project proposal for the Advanced Remote Triage and Emergency Management Information System or ARTEMIS system. ARTEMIS argued for the augmentation of existing equipment with remote triage technologies. This technology represents opportunity to synergize with already deployed equipment and to enhance triage. Further, the expansion of these technologies into the realm of the first responder represents an opportunity for increased quality of response and care. The ability to deploy these technologies to the mobile first responder is now a reality due to the availability of lightweight, high performance mobile computers, which are inexpensive and ultimately disposable. Prior equipment load outs for the first responder focused on initiatives, which purported held computing devices with limited functionality or via laptops, which proved large and bulky. The model elucidates the integration of a disparate range of technologies in a lightweight, cost- effective solution. The augmentation of first responders with new technologies translates into higher quality of care in the field. Higher quality care reduces mistakes, reduces costs and ultimately saves lives. Enter AIRS. Please feel free to email me questions. I am also available for consultations and as a subject matter expert.

http://crisismanagement.tony-ridley.com/ In this video we cover crisis management training and workshops All businesses, big or small, inevitably face a crisis at one point or another. Unfortunately, many never fully recover from the event and their own lack of preparedness and planning. The cause of most failures are a result of less effective training, education, plans, development and tools in order for business leaders and managers to prevail in a more consistent and structured way. Following years of practical experience, trials and development, a new crisis management and leadership training system has been released by Tony Ridley and trialled by a large, global multinational. "While the idea of preparing and training senior executives for times of crisis is not new; we have taken the process much further by providing a suite of focus areas ranging from threat identification, stakeholder management, plans, decision making and even how to effectively brief teams during times of crisis" Tony Ridley commented. He further added "This is then reinforced by exposing participants to a variety of dynamic scenarios where they can apply and trial these new, replicatable processes". This new approach and highly engaging education system was trialled recently with a large, global multinational with over 130,000 employees in 47 countries with great results. Attendees were very senior executives with business and supporting community groups ranging from 1,000 to 30,000 persons. The company was so happy with the results and the approach that it is now in the process of rolling this system out to hundreds of its global executive and leadership members in order to enhance company preparedness and resilience. "Complied from years of personal experience planning for and managing crises from kidnapping, natural disaster, financial crisis, political instability, terrorism and product recall I also went out and consulted numerous experienced and senior executives to then combine the results into this comprehensive crisis management training solution" Tony Ridley went onto explain. " We then run fully interactive, challenging and dynamic crisis simulation scenarios to fully immerse and prepare executives, through a more adult-learning styled approach rather than just repeated theoretical and limited context information" he concluded. The module structured crisis management and leadership training suite includes: • Threat perception analysis • Attendee profiling • Hazard and threat identification • Stakeholder analysis • Priority decision making • Crisis briefings • Crisis communications • Social media • Performance and analysis metrics • Plans, guides and practical resources For more information, contact Tony Ridley directly http://youtu.be/mel31geq2LQ

IOWA CITY, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -- The Johnson County Emergency Management Agency and other agencies statewide are reviewing their practices and running exercises to refresh their reactions to a twister. The devastation after tornadoes hit Illinois last weekend serves as a reminder that severe weather season is not yet over. Officials says coordinating a plan with first responders and nonprofit agencies has become increasingly important. All the subject matter experts agree that we're seeing more of these extreme weather events, whether it's drought, blizzard or tornadoes, and so we really try to keep people aware of: what's your risk, and how do you have a plan? said Johnson County EMA Coordinator Dave Wilson said. While counties are reviewing their responses, this is a great time for families to review their emergency plans, as well, Wilson said.
