NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Financial guru Tony Robbins says plan now for what's to come. Things may be looking rosy on Wall Street as of late, but the crash will come. "We are in a really artificial situation. There is a new high, on average, every month. Feds around the world have been printing money," said Robbins. In his new book, Unshakeable, he breaks down what to do when things go bad. "Instead of selling, you want to stay. The stock market is the only thing that goes on sale for 50 percent off and everyone panics. A bear market is the greatest opportunity of your life. In two centuries of American history, a bear market is always followed by a bull market," said Robbins. Two moves to make when things go south: 1. You have to become an owner not just a consumer. If you own an iPhone, you should own Apple (stock). 2. Understand the power of compounding. Keeping your money in the market will lead to big returns in the long run. 100 percent of proceeds from 'Unshakeable' will go towards Feed America. "We fed 100 million people last year. In this country, 47 million people go to sleep each night not knowing if they'll get a meal in the morning," said Robbins.

Rick Scott (R) called Monday for cutting more than $5 billion from state spending while also slashing taxes. Much of the savings - nearly $4 billion over two years - would come through overhauling Medicaid, the health insurance program for poor people. Scott, a former health-care executive, also called for saving $2.8 billion over two years by revamping Florida's state pension system. And he proposed cutting taxes by more than $4 billion over two years. This would include a roll-back of corporate income taxes from 5 percent to 3.5 percent and reductions in property taxes. Florida faces a deficit of nearly $4 billion. Scott was elected in November with help from the tea party movement, which advocates smaller government, and he unveiled his budget to about 1,000 tea party activists in Eustis, about 200 miles from Tallahassee, where the state legislature will vote on his proposed budget. Critics of Scott's budget plan said it would cut nearly 9,000 positions from state payrolls and slash billions of dollars from spending on education. This video, NIEHS Worker Education and Training Program Recovery Act Successes, highlights the NIEHS Worker Education and Training Program (WETP) and a number of the WETP programs funded with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds it received. Each year, hazardous waste and emergency response personnel face dangerous exposures. In 2008 alone, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 89 worker deaths and approximately 5.5 recordable injuries per 100 full time workers in the Waste/Hazardous Materials Industry. In addition, many of the emerging green jobs in weatherization and retro-fitting involve work with hazardous material, waste, construction and deconstruction. To prevent injury, illness, and public exposures from hazardous materials, especially in the underserved, minority and lower wage workforce, targeted, job-specific training is paramount. NIEHS Recovery dollars are supporting health and safety training for target populations in the hazardous materials and green job sectors. Employees are receiving training about exposures in hazardous waste cleanups, large-scale construction, demolition, Brownfield-type redevelopment and public works projects, as well as commercial and residential weatherization, alternative energy development, green remediation, green construction and emerging industries like nanotechnology. The Recovery Act is supporting job creation and the prevention of work related accidents in underserved populations by assisting underserved populations with gaining employment in remediation and hazardous waste industries; training hundreds of workers to clean up newly funded hazardous waste sites in New York and New Jersey; training and placement of minority workers from low-income communities in Atlanta, Georgia and the four-county area surrounding Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Green supervisor training is also being provided to program graduates in Baton Rouge and Detroit. Green job training and education is an environmental public health imperative to avoid the creation of negative health impacts. During the past several years, the movement towards a "green" economy has offered new opportunities for the unemployed and underemployed. The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Worker Education and Training Program (WETP) funds hazardous materials training in all 50 states and most U.S. Territories. For more information on the Worker Education and Training Program and its awardees, go to http://tools.niehs.nih.gov/wetp/ . President Obama unveils his "partnership to rebuild America,"to revamp the nation's crumbling highways, bridges and other public projects. He made the speech at Port Miami, which is undergoing a two billion dollar upgrade. President Obama said "I've come to Port Miami today because there are few more important things we can do to create jobs right now and strengthen our economy over the long haul than rebuilding the infrastructure that powers our businesses and our economy -- our roads, our bridges, our schools, and our ports just like this one. "As President, my top priority is to make sure we are doing everything we can to reignite the true engine of our economic growth -- and that is a rising, thriving middle class. A growing economy that creates good, middle-class jobs -- that's got to be our true North. That's what has to guide our efforts every single day. And to do that, we should be asking ourselves three questions every single day: Number one, how do we make America a magnet for good jobs? Number two, how do we equip our workers with the skills they need to do the jobs? Number three, how do we make sure that hard work leads to a decent living? "When it comes to good jobs, no workers were hammered harder by the recession than construction workers. Fortunately, the unemployment rate for construction has been cut nearly in half over the past three years, partly because the housing market is starting to bounce back. But construction still has the highest unemployment rate of any industry. Breaking ground on more projects like this tunnel that I just saw means more good construction jobs that can't be outsourced. They have to be done right here in America. And they end up giving people good pay and good opportunities to raise their families. "Projects like this create a lot of other good jobs, too. You ask any CEO where we they rather locate their business and hire new workers. Are you going to set up shop in a country that's got raggedy roads, runways that are pot-holed, and backed-up supply chains? Or are you going to seek out high-speed rail, Internet, high-tech schools, new state-of-the-art power grids, new bridges, new tunnels, new ports that help you ship products made in America to the rest of the world as fast as possible? That's what people are looking for. That's what CEOs are looking for."

Carrier Corporation, the firm that announced last week that it will be moving 1400 jobs to Mexico, got a $5.1 million dollar clean energy tax credit in Dec. 2013. The money was to be used to: “…expand production at its Indianapolis facility to meet increasing demand for its eco-friendly condensing gas furnace product line.” According to Indianapolis radio station WIBC, the company announced back then that: “The new line includes the most energy efficient gas furnaces on the market – all with at least 95 percent annual fuel utilization efficiency." The funding came from the Department of Energy. The Advanced Energy Manufacturing Tax Credit was part of President Obama’s 2009 stimulus package, known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Nevertheless, on Monday, the company announced that it was moving all 1400 jobs from Indianapolis to Mexico. Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett blasted the decision: “Today’s surprise announcement was without warning and incredibly disappointing.” Git ‘em, President Trump! I’m still reporting from Washington. Today, one out of seven people in Michigan are out of work. Nearly one out of every 10 in the country are out of work. So far, not even 15 percent of the so-called stimulus money has been spent. Whats more, what has been spent has gone to questionable projects like $3.4 million to a turtle crossing in Florida. At this rate, its going to take nearly four years to spend all the stimulus money, and on what? That remains to be seen. This country cannot afford to lose jobs at a rate of a quarter of a million a month while we wait for the Presidents stimulus package to kick in. We need a stimulus that works. My plan includes repealing this stimulus plan that isnt working; I've co-sponsored legislation that will do this and save taxpayers $610 billion. Instead of wasting more time and more money, we need to immediately devote these funds to shovel-ready infrastructure improvement projects. We need to invest in our innovative small businesses instead of threatening them with energy taxes and health care costs so high that will force them to lay off more workers or reduce wages creating even more hardships for our state. Under the Republican plan, we provide immediate tax relief for working families a savings of up to $3,200 a year for married couples. We would give tax breaks to Americas small businesses, helping them make payroll and keep their doors open. And if you lost your job, we would make sure you get unemployment benefits tax free so you can get back on your feet. There is a better way: Many better ways, as you can see. If we focus on helping families, and helping small businesses, we can climb out of this recession.

There's been much ado, since Minnesota GOP gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer unveiled his proposed budget at Permac Industries yesterday, about whether the Burnsville-based precision manufacturing company benefited in any way from federal stimulus money — to which Emmer is vocally opposed — through a local Dakota County-based jobs training program. The DC-based Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) quoted Permac CEO Darlene Miller in a press release last week as saying, "The subsidized jobs program has provided us with a wonderful way to identify dedicated and dependable workers." According to the CBPP press release, "President Obama and Congress created the federal TANF Emergency Fund that pays for the subsidized employment program as part of last year's Recovery Act .... with the purpose of providing states with extra resources to meet the increased need for assistance during a recession." But at Emmer's press conference yesterday, Miller denied that Permac had received any federal stimulus money. When asked if federal funds indirectly subsidized her workers through the local Dakota County workforce program, Emmer interrupted Miller, curtly stating, "None of them came from federal stimulus" money. Was this a game of smoke and mirrors — or simply an example of not following the money trail? I spoke to a press spokesperson at CBPP this morning, who helped clarify whether or not Permac benefited from federal funds. It's likely that the company did, but that Miller didn't know it was money that originated in Washington. According to CBPP Welfare Reform and Income Support director LaDonna Pavetti, Minnesota has had a transitional employment program in place for years: its program predates TANF funds. The Obama administration used TANF funds to expand the existing program. Those funds are allocated to the state, and then go to (Dakota) county. It's impossible to peg a particular job (at Permac) to a particular funding source, because existing state funds mingle with the infusion of federal funds. But thanks to the federal Recovery Act, Minnesota's program has expanded greatly, and served many more people. That subsidized job program helped Royal Bissonette land a position at Permac — as highlighted in the CBPP press release. In total, Permac has hired five employees through the jobs program. The three categories of expenditures allocated federally through TANF are for 1) Basic Assistance, 2) Non-recurrent, Short-term Benefits, and 3) Subsidized Employment. Between FY 2009 and FY 2010 Minnesota received $13,715,660 in Subsidized Employment funds and $90 million overall — money which the state wouldn't have received otherwise, Pavetti confirms. At the beginning of 2009, before the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the stimulus) kicked in, Minnesota was placing 627 people per quarter in jobs. After the stimulus took effect, that number surged to 1,498 added workers per quarter. Meanwhile, Permac's employee tally has increased to 36 after bottoming out at 23 at the end of 2009. So has Dakota County — and by extension Permac — benefited from TANF? You do the math.

In spite of the rhetoric coming from the GOP, projects being funded by the stimulus package are already underway across the country. The only holdup at this point is coming from the state level, where governors are either using the money to fill in budget gaps, or they are being too indecisive about how to spend the money. Rick Scott was once the CEO of Columbia/HCA, a massive hospital chain. The federal government fined Columbia/HCA for Medicaid and Medicare fraud. That fine, a jaw-dropping 1.7 billion dollars, is the largest in American history. But instead of going to jail, Rick Scott became the governor of Florida. A guy scams the government and now is an elected official of the government. And in the three months since he's been in office he's doing his best to destroy the fourth largest state. 1. He rejected $2.4 billion in stimulus money to build a high-speed rail line from Tampa to Orlando. 2. He wants to slash $4 billion in spending while cutting taxes for millionaires. 3. He tried to use state funds to build golf courses in state parks while cutting education by 10 percent and corporate taxes by 5 percent. 4. He's requiring 600,000 government workers (including police officers, teachers, firefighters, judges, and retirees) to contribute 5 percent to their retirement. 5. He just lopped off $2,300 a year in teacher salary to give massive tax cuts to corporations and the wealthy. He's also not a fan of black people. He proposed eliminating state support for two HBCUs (Historically black colleges and universities). He's shutting down a state agency that assists minority businesses, and he refuses to appoint an African American to any significant position in his administration. http://www.thenewamerican.com/culture/education/item/21395-obamas-community-schools-aim-to-replace-parents Lawmakers and the Obama administration are plotting to unconstitutionally commandeer local schools and turn them into “full-service community schools” — government centers that will usurp vast new responsibilities over children that have traditionally been handled by parents and families. Under the plan, adopted in the Senate last month as part of a massive “education bill” solidifying federal control over children and schools, federally funded so-called community schools will “target” families and children for “services” covering their “academic, physical, social, emotional, health, mental health, and other needs.” If Congress and the Obama administration get their way, these full-service parent-replacement centers will soon be coming to a community near you, along with the swarms of government workers in charge of “home visitation” and “parenting education” under the program. In fact, even without legislation to authorize it, Obama’s education bureaucracy has already started using tax funds to create the “community schools” nationwide. So what, exactly, is a community school? According to the legislation, it is a government-run elementary or secondary school that “participates in a community-based effort to coordinate and integrate educational, developmental, family, health, and other comprehensive services through community-based organizations and public and private partnerships.” These Orwellian schools will also provide “services” to students, families, and the community, including before and after school, during weekends, and even during the summer. A 2014 Federal Register “notice” by the federal Department of Education announcing lawless grants for community schools defines them in a similar way. In other words, children ensnared by “community” schools can spend virtually all of their time there and receive all of their “services” there — one step short of Obama Education Secretary Arne Duncan’s recent pitch for government boarding schools that he said should have children 24 hours per day, seven days a week. A broad array of government “services” should be provided by the “community” schools. The list of those, outlined in the Democrat-sponsored legislation, is bewildering. Among them: home visitation services by teachers and nurses; early childhood education; primary health and dental care; “mental health counseling services”; “nutrition services”; remedial education activities and enrichment activities, including expanded learning time; summer or after-school enrichment and learning experiences; programs that promote “family literacy”; programs under Head Start and Early Head Start; mentoring and other youth development programs, including peer mentoring and conflict mediation; parent leadership development activities; parenting education activities; child care services; community service and service-learning opportunities; developmentally appropriate physical education; job training, internship opportunities, and career counseling services; adult education, including instruction in English as a second language; juvenile crime prevention and rehabilitation programs; homeless prevention services; and undefined “other services.”

Angry steel workers filled the streets of Vigo in northeastern Spain. Across town armed riot police prepare to head them off. Protests such as this have been taking place across the region for almost a week. Unions representing around 30,000 metal workers are fighting for better wages. But on Tuesday talks with management reached deadlock. It's been a hard time for steel workers in Spain in general. Earlier this month ArcelorMittal cut back its Spanish operations. The global recession has taken its toll on the construction industry. And Spain's unemployment rate is currently the highest in Europe. On Wednesday, the Spanish government signed a deal with Arcelor allowing temporary layoffs among it's 12,000 Spanish workers. They say the move is necessary to combat weak demand and soft prices, by temporarily cutting production. Similar deals have been struck elsewhere in Europe. At Thursday's clashes, a TV cameraman was injured, after a firecracker hit him in the leg. The workers say they'll continue to protest unless an agreement is reached.

This week Senate Democrats announced they will draft a budget for the first time in nearly four years. In the Weekly Republican Address, U.S. Senator John Thune (R-SD), Chairman of the Republican Conference, says the budget debate is the perfect time to address Washington's spending addiction. Getting spending under control, he argues, is the best way to jump-start the economy and create jobs and opportunities for American families and workers.

Updated Jul 18, 2015: The Ohio DOT will build the SPUI after all. GFParsons proposed the PFDI in summer 2014 but ODOT said no because they didn't have time to change plans by January 2015. GFParsons waited for the project to be awarded for construction (June 2015) so the contractor could submit the PFDI as a value engineering change proposal (VECP) whereby the contractor would split the $14 million (est) savings 50/50 with ODOT. The contractor chose not to because it would have meant layoffs for bridge workers (who will be kept busy instead building an unnecessary bridge and retaining walls). To read the draft Interchange Modification Study Addendum prepared by GFParsons, click here... http://www.gfparsons.com/pubs/IMSA%20PFDI%20lowres.pdf === Performance (design year 2035): ~4,600 veh per hour AM LOS B ~5,800 veh per hour PM LOS C Simulation starts approx. 45 mins. into PM peak hour. Unrealized est. savings: ~$20 million (including engineering + right-of-way) Planned project is to replace existing folded diamond with single point urban interchange (SPUI). * PFDI will operate at higher level of service than SPUI. * PFDI keeps existing bridge (has 95% sufficiency rating). * PFDI maintains straight roadway. SPUI will be constructed between reverse curves and on vertical crest curve with both conditions limiting sight distance and below national best practice standards for SPUI design. * PFDI maintains existing ramp spacing on Interstate (to northern US-23 system interchange). SPUI will degrade Interstate operations by reducing ramp spacing to 400-ft below ODOT standard minimum. Location: Toledo, Ohio https://firstname.lastname@example.org,-83.6938881,583m/data=!3m1!1e3

Complete video at: http://fora.tv/2009/06/09/Marsha_Blackburn_Future_of_Employer-Provided_Healthcare Representative Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) claims Tennessee's government-run health insurance plan TennCare is a "disaster." She warns a federally sponsored public option would likely result in a similar outcome. State spending in Tennessee, she says, accelerated from 2.5 billion dollars in 1995 to 8 billion in 2004 because people dropped their private insurance in favor of the "public option." ----- There is little disagreement the current healthcare system needs an overhaul. The U.S. spends over $2.4 trillion dollars annually on healthcare and costs have doubled since 2000 for employer-based family coverage. Options are shrinking. Most agree reform is needed but the debate lies with two competing ideals for the future of healthcare. One is where Washington controls financing and delivery and is seen as the solution, not the problem; while the other contends individuals and families are the best judge of how to spend health care dollars. In the middle lie employers and Congress. The Heritage Foundation hosts an event addressing the future of reform and how it will impact employee provided healthcare. Marsha Blackburn is a Tennessee politician. A member of the Republican Party, she represents Tennessee's 7th congressional district, which stretches from the suburbs of Nashville to the suburbs of Memphis. Marsha Blackburn is an established, conservative, results-oriented legislator who solves problems. She was sent to the U.S. House of Representatives at the start of the 108th Congress where she was one of only a few newly-elected congressmen selected to serve as an assistant whip on the majority whip team and the first female in Tennessee elected in her own right to the US House.
