Make a DIY Garden Planter Flower Box out of a recycled crate! Use for window box planters, container gardening, patio gardening, and small raised beds. Our flower box plans use wooden crates from the grocery store, lined with landscape fabric. Add potting soil and plant vegetables or flowers. FREE PLANS/DRAWINGS NOW AVAILABLE!!!!! Instructions below: This slideshow video shows the creation of a vendor trailer I designed and fabricated to the specifications provided by the Women's Health Resource Library ( http://www.whrl.org ) in Milbridge, Maine. This trailer is used as their "veggie cart" to help promote the WHRL Incredible Edible Milbridge program - providing fresh produce by volunteers, free of charge to local folks. This trailer also serves well for crafters, artisans, and other vendors, to transport and display their products at public events, craft shows, and so forth. It attracts attention, and is quite functional. The basis for the trailer is an inexpensive Harbor Freight Tools 4' x 8' trailer kit. The top part of the trailer is through bolted to the trailer and is built with readily available local materials from the lumber yard. All hardware used was also locally sourced and is common in most locales. Farmer's Markets, Outdoor Craft and Art Shows, Fairs, Carnivals, Outdoor Flea Markets, Parades; this trailer will bring about attention for you and your products, plus it will be quite functional beyond just a sales tool, providing transport and storage. I can fabricate a similar vendor trailer for your business, allowing you to select numerous design options, including selection of materials, colors, and finishes. I can also provide a complete new design if you want something much different. I can provide you with drawings for the DIY person, do partial construction and allow you to finish it yourself, or I can offer you a complete, turn-key unit all ready to go. I hope you'll excuse some of the pictures - a bit out of focus and with the wrong dates on them - just an old guy with old equipment, trying to learn how to make videos! The FREE drawings for this specific trailer ARE NOW available for DIY people in exchange for a modest, tax deductible donation to the Women's Health Resource Library using the honor system. If you download the plans and find them useful for your project, please donate whatever amount you feel is fair by visiting the WHRL web site and making a donation directly to them. Their URL is http://www.whrl.org To download the drawings, go to my web site: http://www.downeastthunder.com where you will find the free, downloadable plans/drawings in pdf format for the trailer and a variety of other DIY projects. For the Trailer, find the "Projects" button on my site and click on it - Select "Fabrication" and then scroll down until you get to the trailer article - follow the instructions from there or simply look for the drawing hyperlinks. If your space is limited and you're looking for ways to increase the amount you can grow, then vertical gardening could be the perfect solution for you. With a little careful planning you can create your garden so plants that are happy to grow vertically still produce an abundant harvest whilst using a fraction of the ground space. In this video we discuss the many different types of plants which can be grown vertically and demonstrate some simple structures you can easily build yourself to provide the support these plants will need. The Manger Trough Style Raised Planters are a great way to grow your own fruit and vegetables on a small scale, in waist height comfort with little or no maintenance and free from certain pests; and as gardeners ourselves, we're rather pleased with the small but perfectly former Mini Manger Raised Planters we've both researched and designed. Standing 56cm High, 60cm Wide and available in four lengths (2ft/0.6m, 4ft/1.2m, 6ft/1.8m and 8ft/2.4m), the Mini Manger Raised Planter provides growing options that single level raised beds can't dream of offering. Plant your salads and shallow rooting crops round the perimeter of the FSC approved, high pressure treated timber manger and let the plants (including carrots and parsnips) which require extra depth really stretch their legs in the centre, where 34cm of soil is available. Manufactured from 2cm thick planed timber and carrying a 5 year structural guarantee, you can be sure the Mini Manger Raised Planter won't let you down and your patio will be grateful for the thick, fitted, non-woven polypropylene fabric liner which aids water retention, contains fine sand and compost, helps prevent leaching and even gives the timber further protection. The Manger Trough Style Raised Planters are also available as the larger Maxi Raised Planter, giving even more growing area, and the Micro Manger, ideal for limited growing space. http://www.harrodhorticultural.com/mini-manger-trough-planters-pid8427.html http://www.harrodhorticultural.com/maxi-manger-trough-planter-pid8092.html

Background Music: https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music Step Two in my SEVEN STEP GARDEN DESIGN GUIDE - a DIY Garden Design Guide that will take you from ideas in your head to a PLAN of action! Learn more at https://howtogardendesign.com/ Sign up at the site for access to some FREE ‘Cheat Sheets’ and an additional video series (my Idea Generator series) on this specific step. The Cheat Sheets go hand in hand with the videos – easy to follow along and help you unpack your images. --- This video looks in depth at ‘Unpacking’ an image and defining what you like. It covers: • Breaking down an image into components • How to describe what you like about the components (looking at physical elements and design elements) • Changing it up! • Summarise your findings – creating key criteria to follow during the design process Part One (https://youtu.be/_jAT3QNc6bQ) looked at where you can find images. This video walks you through how to us them effectively. The key to this process is to repeat it with multiple images. Over time, you will build a good flexible list of criteria for any activity or feature you want to include in your design. It may be slow at first, but you will quickly learn how to unpack any inspiration. Why do we use this method? Most people design their gardens in the following way: 1. Find an idea or image they like 2. Pick an area of the garden they think it should go 3. Try to copy and paste that image in that space 4. Repeat with another activity/ feature/ idea or image They end up with a garden full of individual, separate spaces. There is no connection or relationship between each activity or space. In fact, people often do not get that far. They begin building or developing that one space. It is then too difficult or boring. So, they are left with a collection of half-finished ideas or spaces. After a few years they repeat this process again, tackling each space as an individual project. We want to do the opposite of this. Using this unpacking technique, you will develop a list of flexible criteria for each activity, feature or other space. These criteria are critical to your overall design. They: • Are more flexible than copying and pasting from an image • Allow you to collect ideas from many different sources of inspiration • Let you know when you have ‘successfully’ designed an area • Can adapt to changes in your situation – funds, materials, other expert adjustments You will tweak and change your criteria for activities or features a few times. Every change is a chance to refine what you want in your design and backyard. This step in the design guide is accompanied by a bonus video series – the Idea Generator guide. This series breaks down the step into specific pieces. Check out https://howtogardendesign.com/ to access FREE ‘Cheat Sheets’ that go hand in hand with this series. If you’re not sure of what you’d like in your backyard garden, consider researching some of the following: Specific activities - swimming pools, trampolines, backyard entertaining, outdoor dining, hammocks, cubby houses, playgrounds, basketball hoops, tennis courts, water slides, gyms…. Vegetable gardens - raised beds, companion planting, interior gardens, herbs… Specific features – garden beds, feature trees, water features, ponds, bonsais, climbing trellis, sculptures, flower beds, pots, urns, feature walls, mosaics, flower beds… These are some of many different options. I’m sure you can come up with many more. This is before you even consider specific garden styles - Japanese gardens, French provincial gardens, English gardens, Cottage gardens, Mediterranean gardens, Modern gardens, Contemporary gardens, Native gardens, Formal gardens, Coastal gardens, Low maintenance gardens, Desert gardens, Tropical gardens, Drought tolerant gardens, Tuscan gardens, Country gardens, Xeriscape gardens, Colonial gardens, Southwest gardens, Spanish gardens, Winter gardens… The list is literally endless.

Vining plants can be trained to grow on a trellis to increase plant density. This year I've replaced my self-watering totes with a nice SIP raised bed. This allows me to construct a much better trellis system for my vegetables! Here are some basic garden / trellis supplies that I've found to be indispensable: - Twine Plant Clips: http://amzn.to/2v820Lj (Amazon) - Jute Cord: http://amzn.to/2uyLhDU (Amazon) - Polyester Netting: http://amzn.to/2t5AhcN (Amazon) - 4-Way Tee PVC Fitting: http://amzn.to/2vspqKZ (Amazon) - PVC Coated Welded Wire: http://amzn.to/2utsgSE (Amazon) - Green Stretch Tie: http://amzn.to/2thLU4t (Amazon) - Turnbuckles: http://amzn.to/2upt37m (Amazon) - 16 Gauge Galvanized Steel Wire: http://amzn.to/2tvBYzu (Amazon) - 12 Gauge Galvanized Steel Wire: http://amzn.to/2uyPdo7 (Amazon) I've been diligently pruning and training annual veggies to grow up several plant support systems. They're going vertical, greatly increasing yield within a small space. This includes beans, peas, spaghetti squash, cantaloupe and even watermelon! I'm also training fruit bearing perennials using various trellis and espalier techniques. My vining or espalier plants include air potatoes, passion fruits, currants, plums, Asian pears and a hardy kiwi. In this video we take a closer look at how fence posts, U-posts and T-posts can be used for plant training in your edible landscape or backyard orchard. They can be combined with polyester netting, galvanized wire, welded wire or lattices. Some systems will support more weight than others. Some will last much longer. They may be used to for aesthetics, creating a nice privacy screen. Or they may be barely visible, allowing plants to grow unobstructed. Growing in conventional raised beds can be highly productive. But many veggies perform even better in self-watering beds and containers. When combined with effective trellising, you'll be amazed at how many vegetables you can squeeze into a small space! We've finished harvesting a bumper crop of strawberries. We've enjoyed a steady trickle of raspberries and alpine strawberries. And now the blueberries and aronia have ripened. Our passion fruit has already begun to flower which means we'll have fruit even sooner than last year. I'm looking forward to watermelons and cantaloupe! :-D #RaisedBedGardening #UrbanGardening #VerticalGardening #SelfWateringGarden #BackyardOrchard ================================== Support AlboPepper.com and get some cool garden shirts that I designed myself: https://shop.spreadshirt.com/albopepper/ ==================================

This outdoor storage bench is a very simple woodworking project! Sponsored by http://www.wooditsreal.com/ Subscribe to my channel: http://bit.ly/1k8msFr Second Channel: http://bit.ly/iltms-2 We've got a pool, so we also have LOTs of pool noodles and other backyard stuff. In an effort to hide the pool supplies and toys away when not in use, I made this SUPER simple outdoor storage bench out of basic lumber from the home center. It's made to stay outside, house things that don't mind getting wet (like pool noodles) and can be built in an afternoon. Campbell Remess – known as “Bumble” to his family – isn’t like most 12-year-olds. Instead of being told to get off his Xbox or to turn the TV off, his mom tells him the opposite. Campbell, in fact, has an unusual hobby for a boy of his age. Indeed, instead of spending hours on a games console, he’d rather spend his time on a sewing machine. But while Campbell made toys for sick kids, his dad would receive some devastating news. Campbell’s mom describes him as being “wired really differently.” Unlike other kids his age, when he was nine years old Campbell wanted to purchase some Christmas gifts for sick children at a hospital in his hometown of Hobart in the Australian state of Tasmania. But when he asked his parents, they said no. As much as Campbell wanted to bring a bit of joy to those less fortunate than him, his parents couldn’t justify the expense. With eight other kids to feed as well as their thoughtful son, they were already barely making ends meet. Campbell, however, would remain undeterred. ►For more articles visit: http://scribol.com ►For copyright matters please contact us at: firstname.lastname@example.org ********************** ►Support our channel PATREON: https://goo.gl/HJbzyf Thanks To Our Patreons Salami L. You can create a beautiful garden with a minimalist design into the house. Because it will create a garden in the house, you need to select a suitable type of plant. Which is a type of plant that is easy to maintain, has a lot of color, fragrant and resistant with little sunshine. Indoor Japanese Maple To enhance the look of your garden can combine it with a fish pond and fountain in the room. To fill the land area that looks empty, use rocks like sandstone, coral, or stone temple. Then attach the roof of transparent material and select skylights that light can access into the house. You can use the wooden floor as a floor design in the home garden. With the garden in the house, the house will feel cooler even though the outside is hot. Yes, the average person likes and wants even if the house has a garden. Usually this minimalist garden built in the middle of the house. There is in the form of plants and flowers, there is also the added small fish pond and fountain. If you get bored with a minimalist garden design, you can mix the design tries to your garden with a Japanese garden design. Japanese garden created with a design that is rich in natural elements. Water is one of the elements of nature that can not be separated from the concept of a Japanese garden. In addition to describing the nature, the park is also characterized by a minimalist design, simple to perform, as well as clean because there are no plants growing lush and wild. Indoor Apartment Garden Not only water, other ornaments such as rocks, sand, and wood elements are very attached to the concept of a Japanese garden. In order for this park look more beautiful, you can add a fish pond, garden lights, or could have made a fountain. Incorporating other ornaments to complement the park you can do but to keep in mind is the arrangement should not be excessive so as to eliminate the impression of a simple garden. In addition, Japanese garden usually simple and neatly designed in a way so that the trimmed or bonsai plants to decorate the garden is not lush as the tropical garden style.

Read More: http://www.GistOnThis.com David Latimer is one of the world's few proud owners of an entirely self-sustaining bottled garden. Looking at pictures of the lush green bottle, you'd think that growing it involved a lot of hard work. But the truth is that David hasn't even watered it in over 40 years. It's just been sitting under the hallway stairs in his home and it's doing extremely well on its own. The story of his this amazing experiment began in 1960, on Easter Sunday, when David decided that it would be fun to start a bottle garden. Since they were a bit of a craze back then, he wanted to see for himself what the fuss was all about. So out of idle curiosity, he got himself a 10-gallon globular bottle, poured some compost at the bottom and used a piece of wire to carefully lower a seedling in. Then he put in just about a quarter of a pint of water, and believe it or not, he only watered the plant once more in 1972. Never again after that. It has been alive and kicking for the past 54 years. The plant that David placed in the bottle is an indoor variety of perennial spiderworts that also go by the Latin name of Tradescantia. The bottle itself is tightly sealed; David only needs to rotate it around often so it grows evenly towards the light. "Otherwise, it's the definition of low-maintenance," he said. "I've never pruned it, it just seems to have grown to the limits of the bottle." So what makes the spiderwort so special that it can grow with almost no outside help? The secret is really pretty simple -- the plant has been extremely successful at creating its own mini ecosystem. Using the little water that David gave the plant 42 years ago, it has managed to get a water cycle going inside the bottle. The water is taken up by the roots, released into the air through transpiration, condenses down into the potting mixture and the cycle repeats itself. Through the glass, the leaves are able absorb as much light as they need to photosynthesize into energy that helps the plant grow. The oxygen created during photosynthesis also puts enough moisture in the air for it to 'rain' back down on the plant. As the leaves age, they drop to the bottom and rot, helping to create carbon dioxide (also needed for photosynthesis) and nutrients that are absorbed by the roots. At night, when there is no sunlight, the plant breaks down nutrients and uses cellular respiration to stay alive. The bottle has lived for 27 years in the same spot in David's retirement home in Cranleigh, Surrey. He took a photograph of it to a BBC radio show called 'Gardener's Question Time', to check with the experts if the plant was of any horticultural interest. And that's when it gained the media's attention. According to garden designer and television presenter Chris Beardshaw, "It's a great example of the way in which a plant is able to recycle, it's the perfect cycle of life." Beardshaw pointed out that this process was one of the reasons for NASA's interest in taking plants into space. "Plants operate as very good scrubbers, taking out pollutants in the air, so that a space station can effectively become self-sustaining. This is a great example of just how pioneering plants are and how they will persist given the opportunity," he said. But not everyone is enthusiastic about bottle gardens. Like organic gardener Bob Flowerdew, who said: "It's wonderful but not for me, thanks. I can't see the point. I can't smell it, I can't eat it." David has no choice but to agree with Bob. David did say that the bottle is incredibly dull and doesn't really do anything, but he's still excited to see just how long it will last. He hopes to pass it on to his future generations, and if they aren't interested, to the Royal Horticultural Society. David's bottle garden is essentially one of the best examples of nature's recycling process. And the wonderful part is that it should work with almost any plant, not just spiderworts. All you need to create your own is a large glass container with a wide neck and some good quality potting compost, deep enough for the plant to sink in its roots. Introduce very few tiny specimens of the plant of your choice, move them into position with kitchen tongs, water them ever-so-lightly, seal the jar, and place it in a well-lit spot. That's about it -- you've got yourself a beautiful bottle garden that will thrive for years to come.
