Routine Healthcare for Horses

The Importance of Maintaining the Health of Your Horse It is important for a horse keeper to know the normal behaviour and disposition of individual horses in their care and to be able to recognise when something may be wrong. Subtle early signs of ill health are easily missed, yet early detection is essential – the more quickly appropriate remedial care is taken, or treatment applied, the better. As a matter of routine, every horse should be closely observed and checked daily for signs of injury and ill health. Being able to tell if you have an overweight horse, an underweight horse, or a horse at an ideal weight is important in tracking his overall health. An excellent tool for measuring tracking horse weight gain and weight loss is the Henneke Horse Body Condition Scoring System. This system provides a standard scale for you, your veterinarian, your equine nutritionist, and other health care professionals to use and assess horse fat deposits, areas that are too thin, and areas that are in ideal condition. Be sure to check out the Henneke body condition scale (http://bit.ly/BCSscale) in our Horse Health Library here, as well as our horse weight calculator (http://bit.ly/HWCalculator), which is another tool you can use for measuring horse weight!

How the power of Seaver works

00:45
Seaver designs smart equipment for equestrian sports. We are creating the first connected objects dedicated to horse performance and health care. Often there’s a general lack of precise metrics and scientific approach in horse care. Performance training is very subjective, based on the instinct and experience of the breeder, coach or rider. The same goes for the horse’s fitness: constant monitoring and injury prevention issues are becoming more and more important for passionate riders. With our technology, we want to enhance traditional training methods for equestrian sports – attentive riders, coaches and breeders will be able to introduce technology and precise metrics when preparing their training and competitions, all while taking care of their horse’s health. Lord Guthrie in 'good spirits' after tragic FALL from horse at Trooping the Colour parade

03:00
If you're new, Subscribe! → https://bit.ly/2qKhx3D Field Marshall Lord Guthrie of Craigiebank, who is currently known as the Colonel of the Life Guards, fell off his horse during the Trooping the Colour ceremony, which took place in front of Buckingham Palace near the Victoria Memorial. The spokesman said the 79-year-old received "prompt" medical attention and is "in the very capable hands of the National Health Service where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries". The spokesman added: "Despite those injuries, he is sitting up in bed and is in remarkably good spirits but it is likely that he will remain in hospital for a few more days. "Following his unexpected fall on Saturday, police and paramedics were seen swiftly rushing to Lord Guthrie's aid, as another officer led his horse away from the scene. Lord Guthrie was treated by medical staff at the scene, and was then escorted by an ambulance and taken to hospital. His fall slightly delayed the RAF flypast, as the Queen officially celebrated her 92nd birthday. The former SAS commander, whose full name is Charles Ronald Llewelyn Guthrie, began his military career in 1957 - he was appointed as the head of the British Army until 1997, and moved on as the Chief of the Defence Staff before retiring in 2001. Concerned government officials and members of the public took to social media to express their well wishes for Lord Guthrie. Air Force veteran John Nichol wrote: "Hearing Field Marshal Lord Guthrie was thrown from his horse earlier. "Really hope all is OK - a nicer General Officer you could not hope to meet. Wishing you well Sir. "An Army spokesman also said: "Field Marshall The Lord Guthrie, Colonel The Life Guards, fell from his horse during the parade. "He received prompt medical attention and is now being cared for in hospital."We wish him a speedy recovery. "Gavin Williamson, UK's Defence Secretary was also among those who wished him a speedy recovery. He wrote: "Everyone at the Ministry of Defence @DefenceHQ also sends their best wishes to Field Marshal Lord Guthrie on a speedy recovery.

ECN S1E4 Oxalates Soluble and Insoluble

03:47
EQUINE CLINICAL NUTRITION | OXALATES SOLUBLE AND INSOLUBLE JENQUINE | ECN SERIES 1 | EPISODE 4 Horses grazing subtropical pastures are at risk of osteoporosis. There are 2 types of oxalates (one is insoluble and the other is soluble in the horse’s gut) but both cause calcium deficiency. Subtropical grasses combine minerals with oxalate for storage. Calcium-oxalate is insoluble and indigestible in the horse’s gut. Other mineral-oxalate combinations are soluble in the horses gut – these soluble complexes dissolve in the gut – releasing the mineral and free oxalate. The free, soluble oxalate binds to any free calcium in the diet (from hard-feed or supplements) making it insoluble and indigestible. Two types of oxalates – one binds calcium in the plant, the other binds calcium in the gut. Dr Jennifer Stewart’s Bone Formula Forte and Calsorb Forte contain chelated calcium, protected from oxalates. See Episode 7 for more information. chiropractic for dogs and cats and horses

Here is a video of my dog Snoopy getting treatment. Her paw was dragging on the walks and her vets could not find anything wrong with her. She has been treated by Dr. Tranberg for a few months and she has improved remarkably. My other dog, Hope, was also treated for a very bad twisted neck after a vestibular incident. After just 6 months her neck returned to normal! check out my video of my dog Hope under Vestibular Disease in Dogs Contact voice - 781-789-5999 email drtranberg@hotmail.com www.drtranberg.com What is Animal Chiropractic? Animal chiropractic for dogs, cats and horses? Absolutely, and this is the short list of pets and animals who can directly benefit from a regimented care program at Tranberg Animal Chiropractic. Simply put, animal chiropractic is a natural, drug-free addition to your pet's overall health care. In addition to regular veterinary care, chiropractic care can increase comfort, and add quality to your pet's performance, movement, and flexibility by restoring or improving a normal range of motion to their joints. Chiropractic care is especially helpful in cases where an injury has occurred that has caused a physical upset to the joints, muscles or blocked nerves. Chiropractic is also used to help pets who have had falls, or other blunt traumas, arthritis, spinal disease, and when general movement becomes stiff or painful. Animal chiropractic care looks at the issues of imbalances, in the following three areas: 1.Skeletal System and Joints: Bones and joints form a flexible configuration designed to provide pain-free movement when they are in normal health and alignment. 2.Muscular System: Healthy muscles always allow the joints to move freely and should be free of spasm, pain, weakness and degenerative changes. 3.Nervous System: Nerves are the "hard-wiring" of your pet's body. They dictate the functions of the body as well as control communication between the brain and all other areas of the body. When nerves are pinched, flow is reduced which leads to lower performance levels and sometimes pain. Just like humans, uncorrected subluxations can cause distress and disharmony to the body. But with animal chiropractic care from Tranberg Animal Chiropratic, in conjunction with your animal's veterinarian care, you'll discover a natural, drug-free approach for your pet horse, dog and cat; farm animals such as cows and sheep; and exotic animals too, including birds and snakes to iguanas. You may find our FAQ section helpful in answering other questions you have about helping and improving your pet's over quality of life.

Removal of a molar tooth root fragment in a horse - tooth root abscess part 2

05:06
This horse was featured on a previous video. The tooth had fractured secondary to dental decay. The tooth had fragmented and had been partially removed. Instead of subjecting the horse to a general anaesthetic, which carries a small but significant risk, it was sedated using a morphine drip. The alveolar socket was anaesthetised by placing a maxillary nerve block and a gingival block. The tooth root fragment & alveolar socket was examined using an oroscope. This was also used to facilitate sectioning of the tooth root using an 3mm bone cutting bur. This was only partially successful as only several small fragments were removed. The decision was made to repulse the remaining tooth root fragment. Local anaesthetic was infiltrated under the skin in a position over the tooth root. A Coomer bone drill was used to drill a hole in the caudal maxillary sinus. A blunt ended trocar pin was placed over the tooth root and a mallet was used to drive the fragment through the alveolar socket. Radiograph were taken of the molar arcade revealing two further fragments (cementomas) located in the alveolar socket. These were relatively easily removed under oroscopic guidance. The resultant wound and sinus was flushed using sterile saline. The skin wound was closed with staples. The surgery had left hole (fistula) between the oral cavity (mouth) and sinus. This was packed with dental putty to prevent a sinusitis occurring due to food contamination from the mouth. These wounds can take up to 6 months to heal and need repacking regularly with dental putty.

Digitizing The Family Doctor: Put Care Back Into Healthcare | Nicholas Glover, Sr. | TEDxCharleston

09:38
Sixty years ago, patients— on their own— weren't any better at following their doctor's advice than they are now. But, as Nick Glover shares from personal experience, your then family doctor could readily encourage or cajole one into following the Rx. A lot of factors including the vast increase in doctors' caseloads have done away with those days. Glover presents an idea to address the significant health risk where patients ignore their doctors' significant guidance. It's a solution to engage patients, so they get to the doctor and take the health recommendations needed to ensure they continue to live. Nick Glover has long been influencing communications. Channel One and the Medical News Network (which morphed into what is now known as WebMD) were two vehicles created under his leadership. Nick then shifted his focus to the venture capital field and began advising start-ups. Five years ago, the 11th generation Charlestonian joined others to launch an innovative system, which improves how people get medical information and assistance. From his commitment to improving health, Nick and his wife, a clinical psychologist, founded a non-profit where horses help humanity. The Race to Quantum AI

12:45
AI is changing the world around us, making its way into businesses, health care, science and many other fields. In fact, most of us are happy to work daily with the all-knowing Google, the largest AI on Earth. Google; Golem; God: the associations are rather imposing. Are we on the verge of creating a true artificial brain? When artificial intelligence first emerged as a discipline, scientists had great hopes for it. They wanted to create General Artificial Intelligence, that is, a computer system capable of doing anything a human can, in a better and faster way than we do. After AI failed to deliver on its initial promises, scientists scaled back their expectations, instead focusing on specific tasks. This is called Narrow AI, and even though it’s a step back from General AI, it still gets important jobs done. Today’s software won’t argue with you about the world economy while fixing you a cup of tea or make you feel better when you’re depressed. It can still recognize your face, though, and understand you when you invite it to a game of chess. Today, after years of trying different approaches to creating AI, "machine learning" is the only area that brings promising and relevant results. The idea behind it is fairly simple. Rather than programming computers with a specific set of instructions to accomplish a particular task, such as moving around, speaking, or recognizing faces, you code machines to learn on their own how to perform the task. Unlike traditional programming, which uses explicit, sequential instructions, machine learning software looks at a large number of sample data and uses statistical modelling to find patterns therein. Training it to recognize pictures of horses involves showing it lots of horse pictures tagged as such, along with another set of pictures of other things. The machine then learns what data points are common to horse images, and can use them to identify new pictures. Various algorithmic concepts have been used for machine learning, but it was biomimetics, or biomimicry, that allowed for a real breakthrough. Biomimetics takes inspiration from biology, in this case the human brain, in order to design a more intelligent machine. This led to the development of Artificial Neural Networks, which are programmed to process information in the same way our brain does. Due to the exponential increase in computing power in the last few years, we're now able to build neural networks with much larger and deeper layers than it was previously possible. Although there is no clear border between the terms, this area of machine learning is often described as "deep learning." Deep learning can be summarized as a system of probability with a feedback loop on top of it. Based on a large dataset, it is able to make statements with a degree of certainty. For instance, the system might be 77% confident that there is a horse on the image, 90% confident that it’s an animal and 12% confident it’s a toy. To improve itself, the artificial neural network is able to learn from its mistakes, to be able to make a better decision later on. Our own learning processes are linked to the synapses in the brain, which serve as connections between our neurons. The more a synapse is stimulated, the more the connection is reinforced and learning improved. Researchers took inspiration from this mechanism to design an artificial synapse, called a memristor. The resistance of this electronic nanocomponent can be tuned using voltage pulses similar to those in neurons. If the resistance is low the synaptic connection will be strong, and if the resistance is high the connection will be weak. This capacity to adapt its resistance enables the synapse to learn. However, apart from the problem that we don’t really understand how human intelligence works, the functioning of a biological system like our brain remains fundamentally different. The initial enthusing over AI has faded and the sci-fi scenarios are mostly over. Even with the emergence of new machine-learning techniques the ultimate goal of the field—some form of General AI—remains a distant vision. Still, powerful machine learning is spreading into new industries and areas of daily life and will heighten attention on the unintended consequences that may result. Vulnerable Populations and Aboriginal Health - Time for a Curriculum

01:26:37
This third instalment in our series on social paediatrics will take a more focussed look at vulnerable populations, including inner city and aboriginal children and youth. The panel will provide an overview of the vulnerabilities of inner city youth who are at greater risk of school failure, substance use, adjudication, parenthood, and poor mental health as compared to their non-urban counterparts. We will also discuss mechanisms to foster resilience among youth living in the inner city, and will look at some of the aspects of these issues that might uniquely affect Canada's aboriginal population as well. The discussion will finish by asking whether it is time to develop a curriculum that covers the various issues of social paediatrics, and embed this in the education of paediatricians and other healthcare providers.
