Witness the dread situation faced by residents on a quiet street in North Ruimveldt after contractors working for GWI show up with a brief to lay pipes. After tracking a road works contract given out on Cane View Avenue for four months it became clear to me that now is the time to highlight this for I have the footage to prove unless objection is raised right now it is unlikely these residents will see their environment properly restored on completion of works. Do you buy the supervisor's reasoning for leaving all the debris you are about to see piled up for such a long time? Is this a case of turning up to fix one problem but creating five more? If not, what exactly is it? If you are an engineering professional please feel even more welcome to add to this discussion and if any can offer kind words about the condition of this project site please feel doubly welcome for I am unable. Next I ask you to honestly determine whether or not you see any change whatsoever in the way projects like this have been executed between the last administration and the current one. What do we do when even the supervisors seem to need supervision? It was disturbing to note how comfortable the supervisor seemed with the discomfort they had caused residents and as you will hear there seems to be no rush to alleviate this discomfort. Have a look and make up your own mind but on a side note I would like you to observe something in this video I would never normally point out. Leader of the Opposition Bharat Jagdeo seems to have gone to pains to give the impression there is a widespread, coordinated "assault on people of Indian Origin" through discrimination and racism led by the government. Now this is a very touchy subject in Guyana and I am no defender of the government but reading the pronouncements I always feel uncomfortable because inside I know it does not describe what I see. I have friends of all colours and races, many of whom I consider no different to my flesh and blood so this genuinely concerns me. If untruths meant to deliberately provoke racial tension and disharmony comes from the PPP or the APNU Coalition at any point, it must be shut down. If we must break it down, this particular contract is being executed in a predominantly Afro-Guyanese neighborhood by a team that is entirely East-Indian doing work for the state, and to anyone living in South this again marks no difference to how business was conducted under the last administration. My personal view as an outsider is that a much more diverse group of Guyanese now seem able to get contract work but is this the racism Jagdeo is talking about? I doubt it but I know an example like this would never be brought up. Giving the impression there is some sort of mass persecution going on when that is not the case, can only do more harm than good. If you have followed this channel for long enough it will hopefully already be clear to you that the ethnicity of the person in front of the lens is never my point of contention, rather the focus tends to be about getting value from the government as a collective and looking at how well something is executed. If you have not followed this channel for long enough I do hope you see enough videos for that to become clear. This video is fundamentally about wanting the residents of this street to be left with a job well done but I have felt the side note worthy of inclusion because of how stark I find the contrast between what I hear from the PPP/C top brass and what I see day to day. We are six peoples but we continue to have one big problem and it's called setting a standard. To rectify this problem can only aid us in the effort to change the minds of the thousands of Guyanese who surely go to bed every night dreaming of life in another land where such a standard does exist and is maintained as best it can be. But there are more probing questions to ask so you can avoid a company that looks good on the surface, covering hidden problems. Three issues to explore in depth when evaluating companies in this industry relate to: 1. Recoverability--Like most companies in the current economic environment, some or all 3D printing home businesses show a decline in revenues over the past couple of years. This industry was hit hard by the recession as customers--many of them small businesses--cut back on their printing orders or even closed their doors. It's critical to know which of these categories applies to the majority of clients for a business being considered as a purchase candidate. The answer to questions on this topic will reveal important clues about how quickly and effectively the company will recover as the economy gets healthier. Clearly it's more encouraging to learn that most customers are still in business and will have more printing requirements as their fortunes improve. 2. Income or inconvenience--While a 3D printing home business looks particularly appealing if it incorporates other enterprises like scanning and large format services, those operations don't always generate adequate returns to justify their equipment and employee costs. The seller should be asked to separate, from company's totals, the income and expenses associated with each "profit" center. The statement that peripheral enterprises are profitable should be proved with the figures. And if the seller points out how associated activities attract customers for the main part of the business, further questions should be asked to determine if those claims are rooted in assumption or in fact. 3. Comparing with industry averages--The buyer evaluating businesses in this industry and armed with knowledge about some common ratios, is able to ask the right questions. If the seller shows annual earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (the EBITDA formula widely used in analyzing business opportunities) that fall outside the range of 10% to 20% of gross revenues, some careful analysis should follow. Certainly not all companies in the industry meet that ratio. But knowing the number makes for a good starting place to form questions about the company's profitability. An informed buyer knows to investigate the reason a company is, for example, showing earnings of seven-and-a-half cents for every dollar generated. Is there a fixable problem such as a bloated staff? Or does the pricing structure, necessitated by the highly competitive environment, mean the company is doomed to underperform? Very often, adding subscriptions can increase the lifetime value of a customer (LTV). When people subscribe, they often do not unsubscribe. And as a business that helps you because the number of subscribers grows each month and pretty quickly turns into substantial revenue. But try to notice that there are many businesses that do not necessarily have a recurring revenue that comes from subscriptions, but at the same time still have a recurring revenue from many of their clients. That is because they are able to maintain a long-term relationship with their customer even though the customer never signed a subscription contract. This kind of a situation often occurs when the customer has a recurring need. So when you think about your business model and your business idea, try to consider whether the problem you solve is a recurring problem that people have. If it is, then it will position you to receive recurring revenue from many of your customers and that is a great thing for your business. Getting back to the idea of recurring revenue via subscriptions, one problem with subscriptions is that more often than not, the monthly fees are relatively small. So even though subscriptions bring in a lot of recurring revenue over time, they do not make a lot of revenue right away. Additionally, the recurring revenue is very nice in theory. But if your product is not a repeat-use product, it is very difficult to get people to sign up for subscriptions. So try to think about how to have a recurring relationship with your customer. And that will make it easier to sell them recurring subscriptions and earn recurring revenue that way. So while recurring revenue with subscriptions is great, it is not the only thing there is to aim for. Think about how to have large transaction prices. If your customers can spend large sums of money at one time, the subscription is just icing on the cake. And keep in mind, that everything that is opposite of this is also true. Consider how the freemium business model works. Recognizing that there is an abundance of good options is a great thing for your business no matter what kind of a revenue model you ultimately choose. Now the president of that company and the Afghan Minister of Mines are speaking out about the landmark agreement. On Wednesday, the Chinese state-owned company China National Petroleum Corporation, or CNPC, signed a 25-year contract with Afghanistan. CNPC is the first foreign company to win a major oil deal in Afghanistan. The Chinese regime will gain access to millions of barrels of oil—while Afghan authorities expect to reap billions of dollars in revenue over two decades. The contract covers oil exploration and production in the northern Afghan provinces of Sar-e Pul and Faryab. In a joint venture CNPC and Afghan company Watan Group will search for oil in the Amu Darya River basin. The basin is believed to hold nearly 90-million barrels of oil. CNPC president Lu Gongxun does not have the exact investment figures. [Lu Gongxun, President, China National Petroleum Corp]: "For the development, we can only give you the rough number for initial investment. Based on my experience, for it to be a minimum of around 400-million US dollars." Afghanistan's Minister of Mines says the oil project will open hundreds of career opportunities for Afghans. [Wahidullah Shahrani, Afghan Minister of Mines]: "Indeed today is a historical day in Afghan history, this is the first time that Afghanistan signs a great contract for its country's oil exploitation." Shahrani says oil prices will vary according to global market fluctuations. [Wahidullah Shahrani, Afghan Minister of Mines]: "The term of contract will be 25 years long, the cost of each barrel will depend on the time of exploitation and will be counted based on cost of oil in the international market." Shahrani says the joint venture will enhance Afghanistan's economy. [Wahidullah Shahrani, Afghan Minister of Mines]: "We estimate that within 23 years the income of Afghanistan will be 7-billion US dollars." This is the second major deal for a Chinese company—but the first for Afghanistan in decades.
