I'm talking about potentially ditching your multivitamins, if you're not someone that actually needs it. This video came to light simply because a lot of people that have talked to and a lot of people that I've worked with, have had a very, very hard time letting go of their multivitamins. They take these multivitamins and they see them as their crutch. They see them as the end all be all. Their link to healthy eating or the void fill from the nutrients that they're missing from their food. But the reality is there's a lot more to just popping a multivitamin and getting your vitamins and minerals in. So first off what I want to look at is the fact that 50% of Americans take a multivitamin. That is a lot, a lot of people, that are misled. A lot of people that are leading themselves to believe that they're getting all their vitamins and minerals and getting what they need from a simple pill. Also in reality, we have to look at how much money is being spent. We're talking like $11 billion dollars that people are spending on multivitamins. That's a lot of money. Okay, so let's talk about what is happening with a multivitamin and why it may not be the best thing for you. I'm not discounting it. I'm not saying that everyone should avoid taking a multivitamin. There are some subcategories of people that might want to take them, but I want to talk about some reality when it comes down to just popping that pill. First thing I want to look at is too many nutrients. Period. Okay? The simple thing is we have to look at this. If our bodies have the ability to take in all these minerals and all of these vitamins at once, don't you think there would be a food out there that truly encompasses all of them? You see, normally we have to eat different subcategories of foods to ultimately make up our nutrients. Now, if it was so easy as just popping a pill, I think that a lot more people would be really, truly healthy and if it was really possible to absorb all those vitamins and minerals at once, I think we'd have some foods that contain all those vitamins and minerals. We have to remember that we require specific enzymatic functions to truly synthesize and utilize different vitamins, minerals, and metals within the body. Each vitamin that we take in each mineral that we take in has a different process to actually being utilized and if we take them all in at once, we're not really allowing the body to do that efficiently. You're much better off knowing what is going to work for you and isolating specific vitamins and specific minerals for your type, for your bio individuality. So the thing we have to look at with multivitamins and we have this constant competition going on. Okay? We have constant competition of different minerals that sometimes need to be elevated and sometimes need to be lower, but we also have way too much of specific minerals. References 1) Inc., G. Workout Supplement and Vitamins (Jeff Cavaliere’s Exact Plan)

In this video, I cover the exact choices I make when it comes to the supplements I use to help me build muscle and stay lean year round. From the vitamins and minerals I take to the workout protein powders and formulas, everything I take in a day is covered and explained. For me, my morning starts with my essential fatty acids. I take both an omega-6 fatty acid in the form of evening primrose oil, as well as a high grade pharmaceutical omega-3 fish oil. The primrose is something I take because I tend to eat a very clean diet almost devoid of the highly processed foods that commonly are in abundance in the average diet. That combined with the fact that I carry a low body fat percentage year round, tends to make my essential omega-6’s that much more essential. I also have Reynaud’s, which is a form of impaired circulation to the hands and feet, that primrose oil has been shown to be helpful in treating. The omega-3’s are taken once in the morning, and again at lunch and at dinner. The grade of the oils is of prime importance when choosing an omega-3. Like prescription grade lovaza, Dr. C’s Omega-3’s are an incredibly potent form of essential fatty acids that have been shown to not only promote overall health and well being but also speed up muscle recovery by helping you recover from muscle inflammation. I take 1500mg of vitamin C, 1000 iu of vitamin E, CoQ10 and green tea extract to meet these needs here. As I point out in the video, I do get adequate levels of both C and E in y diet, however I still take these as an insurance policy and investment in my own health. Just be sure that you don’t take too much vitamin E as it is a fat soluble vitamin that can be taken in excess and not easily removed from the body. Green tea extract provides additional blood sugar stabilizing effects via it’s impact on insulin sensitivity and therefore finds it’s way into my daily supplement regime every morning. Each of the above vitamins are taken once with breakfast as described in the video. Next I take the ultimate insurance policy, a multivitamin. I believe again that while we tend to get the majority of our major vitamins from food, we do not necessarily address all of our micronutrient needs (especially if we tend to follow somewhat restrictive eating plans or styles) so I feel more comfortable taking a multi as a backup. One of the most important areas of late for me has been joint recovery supplementation. Having dealt with a bad right shoulder from a torn labrum, as well as two bad knees, I not only felt the need to take but actually set out and developed what I feel is the absolute most comprehensive joint recovery formula available. And 'Track Your Stack' a program for tracking your vitamin and mineral supplements! Dosage, frequency ~ start and end dates~ Whoa! Looks good! Writing out what I should use and when is integral for me if I'm to be successful when I use vitamins. This is one thing I'll make a practice of. Writing out on index cards which vitamins and minerals are used for which symptoms is something I'll implement in my household! For colds and flue - prevention or help for, there is Vitamin C 1,000 IU as an example. Taking it every 25 to 40 minutes seems the most beneficial for me. Adding in a good Vitamin B-12 would be something else to consider. Our body can eliminate the excess fluids on its own, through urine, or sweat. However, when its function is affected, the fluid starts accumulating in the tissues, and causes swelling. The swelling is most prominent in legs, feet, ankles, hands, and sometimes even in face. This is known as peripheral edema. There are two types of edema. pitting edema, and non-pitting edema. In pitting edema, an indentation is formed, when pressured is applied on the swollen area. This indentation will persist for sometime, even after the pressure is released. The causes for pitting edema are: Sitting for too long. Congestive heart failure. High intake of Sodium. Deficiency of Potassium and magnesium. Pregnancy. Medication side effects. Wearing tight socks, etc., In non-pitting edema, indentation is not formed when pressure is applied. Non-pitting edema is caused due to disorders in lymphatic system. Non-pitting edema is more serious, and difficult to treat, than pitting edema. Whatever might be the reasons for swelling and fluid retention, you must consult your doctor, immediately. However, there are some home remedies you could take, to reduce swelling in the body. 1. Drink water. Drinking less than the recommended amount of water, which is 6-8 glasses a day, can dehydrate your body, and is very dangerous to your health. In cases of dehydration, the body tries to rehydrate itself, by taking water from different tissues, which may lead to fluid retention and other serious health problems. 2. Reduce the intake of sodium. Sodium is present in almost any of the foods we eat every day, so it’s really hard to avoid. However, consuming too much of it can cause numerous health problems, including fluid retention. 3. Avoid processed foods. Processed foods are rich in sugar and sodium, which are among the main risk factors for fluid retention, and a variety of other diseases and conditions. So make sure to eat nuts, seeds, whole grains, and avocado, in order to optimize the levels of the minerals in your body. 6. Eat Vitamin B6 rich food. Lack of this vitamin, is one of the main causes of fluid retention. Eat more tuna, pistachios, bananas, chicken, and sunflower seeds, in order to resolve the problem. 7. Exercise. In order to prevent fluid retention, exercise is key. Start being physically active today, in order to keep the levels of fluids in your body regulated, and keep everything functioning properly. Go for a walk, run, or swim, and aim for 30 minutes of exercise per day 3 times a week, or more, if you have the time. 8. Elevate your legs.
