Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance that’s found in all cells of the body. Our bodies need cholesterol to make hormones that protect the body, vitamin D and bile salts that are necessary for the breakdown of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Plus, the brain and nervous system depend on cholesterol for the creation of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine. Our bodies make the cholesterol that we need, but we get cholesterol from our food too. If you have too much cholesterol, it starts to build up in your arteries and may lead to atherosclerosis, or the hardening of the arteries. Here is a list of 10 foods to avoid if you have a Cholesterol. 01:02 Macaroni And Cheese. 02:05 Egg Yolks. 03:09 Red Meats. 04:07 Milk and Other Conventional Dairy Products. 05:06 ice cream. 06:03 Canola Oil and Other Processed Vegetable Oils. 07:02 Cookies and Other Sugary Treats. 08:01 Bacon and Other Processed Meats. 09:08 Processed Meats. 10:01 Potato Chips and Other Packaged Foods. Macaroni and cheese are necessary to limit among the foods high in cholesterol to avoid. We all know that the main macaroni and cheese ingredients include cheese, butter, and whole milk. Many types of cheese are rich in cholesterol with about from 7 to 11% daily value for cholesterol per ounce. One of the most common foods high in cholesterol to avoid is egg yolks. We know that eggs are always a good choice for breakfast as it contains a lot of nutrients that is necessary for the body. But they are also rich in cholesterol that is not good for the people with heart disease and high cholesterol levels. Red meats are a good food for the health in general. But for the people with high cholesterol levels, they are the foods high in cholesterol to avoid. These meats like pork, lamb, and beef often have more saturated fat and cholesterol than other meats. Milk fat contains a broad range of fatty acids, and some have a negative impact on cholesterol-rich lipoproteins. The saturated fatty acids, such as lauric acid and myristic acid, increase total plasma cholesterol, especially LDL. In a cup of rich chocolate ice-cream, there are 15.36 grams of saturated fat which makes up almost a full day’s supply. This means once you consume one cup of rich chocolate ice cream, other sources of saturated fat such as meat, cheese, milk and other animal products should be avoided. When canola oil undergoes hydrogenation, which it often does to become a partially hydrogenated oil, this increases its level of trans fats. These are a group of fats that you want to avoid as much as possible since they’re scientifically known to increase LDL cholesterol and lower HDL cholesterol levels. Dietary sugars serve as the cause of obesity, several chronic diseases and a range of cardiometabolic risk factors. Today in the U.S., over 75 percent of packaged and processed foods contain some form of added sugar. Recent studies have shown that processed meats are associated with increased cardiovascular disease and stroke mortality. Evidence suggests that processed meat consumption increases the risk of heart health issues, while unprocessed meat consumption has a small or no association with cardiovascular disease. The processed meats like bacon, sausages, ham, beef sticks are high in cholesterol. These foods are very common and eaten with bread and hamburger. They are considered as a good choice for the busy people. But you should avoid these foods. Extensive research evaluates the rise in snacking, snack foods and ultra-processed foods in the American diet. Some studies show that 66 percent of calories consumed by U.S. citizens comes from packaged foods and beverages. See how my parents lowered their cholesterol by 30 pts in 30 days - no diets or drugs: ►►►http://drsam.co/yt/StartLoweringYourCholesterolNaturally =============================== 5 Worst High Cholesterol Foods You Must Avoid [Clinically Proven] =============================== Cholesterol has many benefits and it’s definitely NOT your “enemy”. In fact, “low” cholesterol is just as bad as “high” cholesterol levels. However, there are certain foods that are really bad for you and can quickly increase your “bad” cholesterol levels and dramatically increase your risk for heart disease, a heart attack or stroke. Under this video I’ve got a special bonus video about how you can quickly lower your cholesterol levels in less than 30 days, naturally - without changing your diet or exercising. So make sure you take a look... However, let’s first start with the 5 worsts, clinically proven - “high cholesterol” foods that you must avoid! Dairy I’ve been saying this for over 2 decades - Milk is for babies and cow milk is for baby cows! Additionally, 99% of dairy products are pasteurized, which kills any benefits milk could have. Not to mention, the toxins, hormones and drugs these animals are given are highly concentrated in the milk - which goes inside of YOU! All of these factors, plus the saturated fat inside milk, increases your cholesterol and stresses your liver. It doesn’t matter if it’s whole, low or nonfat dairy, it’s all the same. Unfortunately, this also includes two of my favorite foods, ice cream and cheese! Fast Foods It doesn’t matter if it’s a burger, tacos, french fries, pizza or anything else - they’re all high in carbohydrates, hydrogenated and saturated fats, using unhealthy and toxic proteins. It’s cheap food. It may be easy and good for your wallet, but it’s bad for your health and cholesterol levels and you’ll pay the price later in life. Animal Protein The saturated fats and “marble fat” found in meat, pork, poultry and shell-fish is horrible for your health and cholesterol levels. I’ve noticed even grass-fed meat and free-range poultry can still cause high cholesterol in some of my patients, especially the “sensitive” ones. Limit your intake and focus more on vegetable proteins and fish - especially wild-caught salmon. Eggs Eggs can be good or bad. All the cholesterol and fat is located in the egg YOLK, which is why most “experts” say you should only consume egg whites. However, most of the nutrients, antioxidants and half the essential amino acids (protein) are also found in the yolk. The problem is when you COOK the yolk - such as hard-boiled, scrambled and fried eggs. The heat oxidizes the egg and damages both the structure of the protein and fat. So the healthiest way to eat eggs is raw or lightly cooked, so the yolk is still runny. Don’t fry it with butter or vegetable fats. And make sure it’s organic, free-range eggs. Baked Foods/Carbs (Snacks Too) Baked foods such as muffins, cakes, breads, donuts, croissants, rolls, cookies, danishes, scones, pie, etc… The types of foods most people eat in the morning when they’re in a rush, or with their coffee or at work as a snack… These are all bad because they contain hydrogenated and saturated fats, as well as dairy. Not to mention, they’re high in simple carbohydrates and sugars. “Bad” fats increase cholesterol. “Bad” fats + carbs/sugar REALLY increase your cholesterol and lead to numerous health issues. The combination is super unhealthy. Under this same category -- “Snack Foods” such as chips, pretzels, crackers and similar items are almost as bad as these bakes foods. The secret is simple: good-quality environmentally-friendly oats help you feel and look better on the inside and out. Oats have some unique properties thanks to the wide variety of vitamins and minerals they contain. Zinc helps cleanse the skin and remove toxins and other harmful compounds. The slow carbohydrates found in oatmeal help curb your appetite and maintain normal blood sugar levels. All those nutrients in oats not only boost your metabolism but also prevent the accumulation of fat and toxins in the body. 1. Liver The amount of fats in your bloodstream remain higher than usual several hours after eating liver. Since your liver is the organ responsible for the production of cholesterol, consuming animal liver will boost your cholesterol levels. Liver is a great source of iron, but skip organ meats and choose lean cuts of meat instead. 2. Full-Fat Dairy Dairy products are known to be high in calcium, vitamin D and potassium. Your bones depend on these nutrients to remain strong and healthy. However, consuming whole-fat dairy products are high in cholesterol and saturated fat which can become a health hazard if you have high cholesterol levels. Replacing with low-fat or non-fat versions allows you to incorporate dairy products into your diet in a healthy way. 3. Fried Chicken Eating foods high in saturated fats is one of the main causes of high cholesterol circulating in your blood. Greasy, deep-fried chicken is one of the worst offenders if you are on a cholesterol-lowering diet. Deep frying - or pan frying- soaks up fat, adding extra calories which can aggravate your existing health condition. For a healthier option, prepare skinless chicken breast by grilling or baking to minimize the fat content. 4. French Fries White potatoes are rich in potassium and magnesium, two crucial minerals that contribute to multiple health benefits. French fries however, are usually fried in partially hydrogenated vegetable oil which contributes to trans-fats. These unhealthy fats build up cholesterol in the arteries, causing damage to the body cells and your heart. Prepare your potatoes by boiling or baking, a healthier option for your body. 5. Ice Cream Some of the best-tasting desserts are actually some of the worst when it comes to raising your cholesterol levels. Ice cream is made by a mixture containing high-fat milk or cream, glucose-based sweeteners, and flavorings such as chocolate or vanilla. This is definitely not a good food option to eat regularly if you're concerned about your cholesterol. An average serving of vanilla ice cream contains almost 5 grams of saturated fat, which makes up for a quarter of the maximum recommended daily intake. 6. Processed Meat Food products such as bacon, sausages, hot dogs and cold cuts are generally classified as unhealthy. Daily consumption of processed meat raises LDL (bad) cholesterol levels in the blood, increasing the risk of coronary heart disease. There is also growing evidence that links processed meats to diabetes and several types of cancer, particularly colon cancer. 7. Microwave Popcorn Popcorn is low in calories and high in fiber, preparing it the right way is in fact a healthy snack. However, microwave popcorn is loaded with salt, oil and butter that have the ability to increase cholesterol levels. When the bags of microwave popcorn are heated, they release particles that may be associated with health risks. Select air-popped variety, or pop the kernels yourself on the stove with olive oil. 8. Doughnuts Doughnuts taste so good, finding a way to resist them is no easy task. But, if you're serious about lowering your cholesterol level, bid farewell to doughnuts. These doughy treats usually come one way, and that way is deep-fried. Fried foods often contain lots of unsaturated and trans fats that lower your HDL (good) cholesterol and raise your LDL (bad) cholesterol. Add to that lots of sugar and other unhealthy ingredients, this treat can cause harm to your health. 9. Red Meat (Beef, Porc, Lamb) Red meat is an excellent source of complete protein which is the building blocks of every cell in the body. Choose lean cuts of red meat that does not contain high levels of fat or saturated fat. Trim off any visible fat to further reduce the levels of saturated fat content. Limit your serving size and include more veggies and high-fiber foods on your dinner plate. Fiber acts like a sponge and soaks up cholesterol, helping to remove the excess cholesterol that's floating in your bloodstream. 10. Pastries Pastries are high-calorie, low nutrient foods that will pile extra pounds around your waistline, while having damaging effects on your skin and heart. For a healthy snack choose dark chocolate (70% or more cocoa), its rich amount of cocoa attributes to a number of health benefits. Eating dark chocolate, in moderation, has been found to significantly decrease LDL (bad) cholesterol due to its abundance of powerful antioxidant flavonoids. Unlike pastries, cocoa has shown to prevent cholesterol from lodging in the arteries.

5 High Cholesterol Foods You Must Avoid #5. Ice-creams Apparently ice-creams are a high cholesterol food item. These have more fat than a deep-fried snack! You may turn to homemade fruit ice-creams to satiate those cravings. #4. Meat, Poultry and Fish These products are good for health when taken in regulated quantity. Limit these to no more than 5 oz (140 g) a day. Also balance these out by consuming other low-cholesterol foods. #3. Fast Foods Fast foods like burgers, tacos, fries, packed chips and fried chicken are high in both total fat and saturated fat. You can replace these with healthier options like broiled sandwiches, salads with low fat dressing and foods that are not fried. #2. Egg Yolks Eggs are a high protein food with lots of health benefits. However the egg yolk is loaded with cholesterol and can cause lot of harm. It is advisable to have egg whites and eliminate that yellow part. #1. Whole-Fat Dairy Products Go easy on milk products that have more than 1% milk fat, for instance cheeses (most of them), cream and nondairy coffee creamers. Fat-free milk, toned milk and non-fat dairy products are any day better than whole-fat dairy. 10 High-Cholesterol Foods to Avoid , 15 Foods to Avoid if You Have High Cholesterol , 10 High Cholesterol Foods You Must Avoid, 10 Foods to Avoid if You're Watching Your Cholesterol, Top 10 Foods Highest in Cholesterol , Foods to Avoid for High Cholesterol ,

We know some products are really dangerous for our health, and other products are good for us as they are healthy. It turns out it’s not so simple and some of the most promoted and popular foods can, in fact, harm you. Never eat these 10 dangerous foods for the sake of your own health and the health of your family. Even if you see the juice labels “not from concentrate” or “100% pure”, don't let this fool you. Juice, after being squeezed from different fruits, is kept in huge vacuum-sealed tanks where it can sit for up to a year before being packaged! And by that time, the juice has lost all its flavor, which is why manufacturers have to add artificial flavoring to make it taste fruity again. In most cases, cereals are loaded with refined carbohydrates and sugar. Even if the label assures you that it's fat-free and whole grain, check the list of ingredients. You'll most likely see that the product is full of sugar. Despite common belief, most yogurts don't contain probiotic bacteria since the process of pasteurization kills all these microorganisms. When consumed, trans-fats in ice-cream can cause high cholesterol, stroke, heart disease, and even cancer. Ice cream is also loaded with sugar, artificial flavors, and synthetic preservatives. And if it’s pink, purple, or red, it’s most likely been colored with cochineal extract or carmine, additives which can cause bad allergic reactions. Popcorn has some genetically modified ingredients as well as taste-boosting chemicals and additives. This leads to health problems such as heart attacks, digestive issues, allergies, skin rashes, breathing problems, and the depressing list goes on. Even more, popcorn is extremely caloric. These oils, when heated, become nothing more than trans-fats. -One egg contains as much cholesterol as a big greasy burger. -Microwave popcorn’s almost always lined with the same toxic substance you can find in Teflon pans. -If candy doesn’t contain sugar, it contains artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, sucralose, and saccharine. These substances are chemically processed and may cause some serious side effects. -Artificial sweeteners in diet soda can easily lead to weight gain as they trigger the production of insulin, which makes your body store fat. High cholesterol foods - 5 -High Cholesterol Foods You MUST Avoid High cholesterol foods Foods to avoid with high cholesterol Cholesterol isn’t all that bad and your body can also benefit from it. In reality, “low” cholesterol has the same negative impact as “high” cholesterol levels. You’d be surprised how eating certain foods can cause your “bad” cholesterol levels to go through the roofthat predisposes you to cardiac diseases and stroke. But would you believe that it is possible to reduce your cholesterol levels the natural way in a span of 30 days? How is it done? The first and most crucial thing you need to learn are the top 5 foods to avoid: 1. Dairy No matter how cliché it sounds, milk is for babies while cow’s milk is for baby cows! Not only that, roughly 99.9% of dairy products are pasteurized leaving very little health benefits in it. And when you drink cow’s milk, you end up consuming the toxins and other medicines given to these animals before. Your cholesterol level rises that put a heavy strain on your liver since all cow’s milk often contains saturated fat, no exception. So, you have to say goodbyeto your favorite comfort foods such as cheese and ice cream. 2. Fast Foods We are talking about all sorts of fast foods here. All of them are loaded with carbohydrates, toxic proteins, and hydrogenated and saturated fats.Aside from they taste good, they are also really cheap. You can chomp them anytime you want since you can buy them anywhere and cost cheaper than fresh and healthy food choices but the toxins these foods contain will take its toll on your body later in life. 3. Animal Protein Your cholesterol levels will surely increase if you keep on eating meat, poultry, pork, and shellfish that are high in saturated and “marble” fats. Even if you go organic on them, they still contain more cholesterol than your body will ever need. Steer away from these food groups and consider getting your proteins from nuts and veggies or fish like wild-caught salmon. 4. Eggs Eggs are neutral. If you like eating yolks, you’d likely have higher cholesterol levels as this part of the egg is loaded with it. You can avoid the yolk, though, and eat the white part instead. But once cooked, the egg is oxidized by the heat and this affects the protein and fat structure. To save yourself from the bad side of eggs, consume it raw or lightly cooked where the yolk still appears runny. Opt for organic eggs from chickens that were allowed to roam freely. If possible, avoid frying the eggs with butter or other vegetable fats. 5. Baked Foods/Carbs (E.g. Snacks) Who can resist bakes treats, right? From pastries to donuts, cookies, pies, and cakes, they aren’t just delicious but gives you that jolt of energy you need to jumpstart your morning or during the sleepy afternoon slump. Unfortunately, they aren’t the healthiest food choices since they are made with dairy as well as hydrogenated and saturated fats. Moreover, most of these sweet treats contain sugars and simple carbohydrates that can cause your blood sugar levels to spike and then plummet a short while later causing you to eat some more to feel more energized. Never ever forget that “bad” fats cause your cholesterol levels to go up. You will eventually have problems with your health if you keep on eating foods rich in “bad” fats + carbohydrates +sugar. They are undeniably a recipe for a health disaster and can significantly shorten your lifespan. Aside from the usual staples you buy from the bakery, snacks like chips, crackers, pretzels, etc. all belong to the same category and are just unhealthy as other baked goodies. cholesterol levels cholesterol diet high cholesterol foods cholesterol foods that higher cholesterol high cholesterol diet high cholesterol normal cholesterol levels cholesterol range bad cholesterol foods what foods are high in cholesterol what causes high cholesterol

While high cholesterol can be inherited from your family, it can also be the result of poor food choices. Here are some simple ways you can help to lower your cholesterol through healthful eating. Foods to Limit If you have high cholesterol, you don't need to completely avoid certain foods. Rather you should learn to limit the amount you eat because they are naturally high in cholesterol and/or saturated and trans fat. These foods include: Liver and other organ meats Egg yolks Full-fat dairy products, such as milks, cheeses, sour cream and ice cream Butter and lard Processed meats such as sausages, hot dogs, bologna and salami Untrimmed red meats Fried foods Some poultry, such as goose and duck Prepared and highly processed cakes, pies, cookies, etc. Sources: Smart NA, Marshall BJ, Daley M, Boulos E, Windus J, Baker N, Kwok N. Cholesterol is a naturally occurring substance produced by the liver and found in animal foods. The human body needs it for the proper function of nerves, cells, and hormones. Currently, about 100 million people in the United States have high LDL cholesterol (above 200 mg/dL), that can clog arteries (hardening of the arteries) and cause strokes and heart attacks. You can improve LDL (bad) cholesterol with prescription medicines (statins), but if you'd instead first make some lifestyle changes to improve your LDL cholesterol, you will experience a better overall health. For start, here are top 20 foods to avoid for high cholesterol: #1 Red & Processed Meat #2 Cheese #3 Fried Chicken #4 French Fries #5 Milk #6 Salad Dressings #7 Hot Dogs #8 GMO Soybeans #9 Yogurts #10 Doughnuts #11 Canned Foods #12 Sausages #13 Cookies #14 Tacos #15 Fried Fish #16 Ice Cream #17 Mayonnaise #18 Potato Chips #19 Pancakes #20 Eggs Tip - Increase your daily intake of dietary fiber. It is recommended to aim at 25–35 grams of dietary fiber per day (minimum). Excellent sources of dietary fiber include whole grains (oat bran, oats, quinoa), legumes (red kidney beans, lentils, chickpea), fruits (mango, apples, pineapple, papaya, pears) and vegetables (broccoli, radish, carrots). Also, regular moderate physical exercise is essential since some recent studies show that daily activity for a period of approximately 3 months can modestly increase beneficial HDL cholesterol by 10%. Hi! I'm robo-Suzie and today I'll talk to you about Top 5 High Cholesterol Foods to Avoid. Also don't forget to subscribe for more tips in the future! But back to our topic. Undeniably most high cholesterol foods are delicious. This may be the main reason why many people have a hard time cutting down their high cholesterol foods intake. Those who have high levels of cholesterol have no choice but to reduce or eliminate such foods from their diet. Listed below are some of the high cholesterol foods that one should avoid to prevent getting a high level of cholesterol. 1. Eggs. Eggs are considered as a staple breakfast food, but they also come with high levels of cholesterol. Medical experts, specifically those in the American Heart Association, recommend that only 300mg of cholesterol should be consumed every day. Eggs carry 213mg of cholesterol, so if one eats ice cream, cheeseburgers and other high cholesterol foods for the rest of the day, it isn't impossible that their levels of cholesterol would rise. 2. Fast food. Every time a person enters a fast food restaurant, chances are he or she can hear the sizzling of burger patties on the grill and see fries being cooked in vats of oil. Those are just 2 signs of the amount of cholesterol present in each fast food product. Hamburgers can have 85mg to 175 mg of cholesterol, while French fries have 5g of trans fat and 4g of saturated fat. 3. Ice cream. What's a meal without dessert? People can have a slice of chocolate cake, pie, or during hot summer days a scoop of ice cream. This may come as a surprise and shock to many, but it has been determined that 1 cup of ice cream has higher amounts of cholesterol than 10 doughnuts and has more fat than hamburgers. Ice cream is one of the very high cholesterol foods you should try to avoid. 4. Palm oil. Although food that comes from plants is considered low in cholesterol, palm oil will increase the levels of cholesterol in a person's body. Other plant food products that can increase cholesterol levels are coconuts, palm kernel oil and coconut oil. 5. Snacks. Those bags of chips people love snacking on can help increase cholesterol levels. Before picking up a bag of chips, read the label first. Some snacks have identified the amount of cholesterol and trans fat present in the product. Other high cholesterol foods that one should avoid or cut down in one's diet are food that comes from animals (beef, poultry, etc.), dairy products, and pastries. Aside from cholesterol-ridden foods, people with high levels of cholesterol should watch out for food with a lot of trans fat. That's it! Thank you. Please subscribe, comment and like this video if it was helpful! See you soon!

This strawberry ice cream recipe does not require any special equipment as it does not need to churn. It gets it's creaminess from whipped evaporated milk and whipping cream. It is a big hit at our house so I make it every year when those luscious, sweet strawberries hit the market! It is exquisite and creamy and super easy to make. There are 2 very important secrets for the absolute success of this dessert. The first one is your evaporated milk and cream must be very, very cold. So go ahead and place them in the freezer for a good 20 minutes before you start making this. If possible place your bowl in the freezer as well. The second secret is you must be very patient when adding the pureed strawberries to the beaten milk. If you add them in a haste you will end up with a completely watery mess. So, be patient and have fun making this delicious dessert! SUBSCRIBE HERE! - http://full.sc/LQTHYV Share, like and comment. (1 cup) of very, very cold evaporated milk 8 oz. (1 cup) of very, very cold heavy whipping cream 2 cups confectioner's sugar 2 heaping cups of sliced strawberries 3/4 cups chopped strawberries Put the strawberries in the blender and blend until liquid. Set aside. Add the evaporated milk into a bowl. Using a beater, beat the milk on high speed until it doubles in volume. Slowly add a cup of confectioners sugar and continue beating until it triples in volume. Very slowly add the pureed strawberries into the milk. When you are done your mixture should be relatively dense but not completely liquid. Place the bowl in the refrigerator. In another bowl, beat the whipping cream until it forms soft peaks. Slowly add the rest of the sugar and beat until firm. Very carefully fold the evaporated milk and strawberries into the beaten cream.Fold in the chopped strawberries. Smooth out the top and cover with plastic wrap, placing the wrap directly onto the ice cream. Freeze overnight. Take the ice cream out of the freezer 10 minutes before serving. Scoop it into bowls and serve with some grated chocolate and an extra strawberry. Enjoy! LOWER TRIGLYCERIDES , 10 Steps to Lower Triglycerides. When Triglycerides Inch Up Maybe you've put on a few extra pounds. Now your yearly blood work comes back showing high triglycerides. These fats are an important source of energy in your body, but at high levels they can hurt your heart. Like cholesterol, triglyceride troubles can lead to clogged arteries and possibly to a heart attack or stroke. Luckily, there are many ways to lower your triglycerides. Look at How You Eat That creamy latte, grilled cheese sandwich, or scoop of ice cream before bed can all lead to high triglycerides. If you often eat more calories than you burn - like many of us do - your triglycerides may start to inch up. The worst offenders are sugary foods and foods high in saturated fat, like cheese, whole milk, and red meat. Say No to Sugar If you have high triglycerides, get your sweet tooth in check. Simple sugars, especially fructose (a sugar often found in fruit), raise triglycerides. Watch out for foods made with added sugar, including soda, baked goodies, candy, most breakfast cereals, flavored yogurt, and ice cream. Uncover Hidden Sugar Learn to spot added sugars on food labels. Words to look for include brown sugar, corn syrup, words ending in "ose" (dextrose, fructose, glucose, lactose, maltose, sucrose), fruit juice concentrates, cane syrup, cane sugar, honey, malt sugar, molasses, and raw sugar. Focus on Fiber Swap out foods made with refined white flour, and bring on the whole grains. You'll eat more fiber, which helps lower your triglycerides. For breakfast, have a bowl of steel-cut oats with berries instead of a bagel or sweet cereal. At lunchtime, try a salad loaded with veggies and garbanzo beans. Choose brown rice or quinoa at dinner instead of potatoes or pasta. Eat the Right Fat A little fat is good for you, when it's the healthy kind. Choose foods that naturally contain mono- and polyunsaturated fats: avocados, walnuts, chicken without the skin, canola oil, and olive oil. Avoid trans fats, which are found in many processed foods, French fries, crackers, cakes, chips, and stick margarine. Don't eat much saturated fat, found in red meat, ice cream, cheese, and buttery baked goods. Choose Fish Instead of Red Meat The same omega-3 fats that are good for your heart can help lower your triglycerides, too. Next time you eat out, get the fish instead of a burger or steak. Eat fish at least twice a week. Salmon, mackerel, herring, lake trout, albacore tuna, and sardines are all high in omega-3s. Eat Your Nuts and Greens Other good sources of omega-3s: Walnuts Flaxseeds Spinach Kale Brussels sprouts Salad greens Beans Do You Need an Omega-3 Supplement? Ask your doctor. Capsules can give you a concentrated amount of omega-3s, but not everyone needs them. You may be able to lower triglycerides by making healthier choices in your life. And high doses of omega-3s can cause bleeding in some people. If your doctor says it's OK, look for capsules with EPA and DHA, two powerful types of omega 3 Cut Back on Alcohol. Do you unwind with wine, beer, or a cocktail? Switch to sparkling water with a squeeze of lime juice. Or try a tangy herbal iced-tea blend that tastes great without added sugar. Excess drinking is one cause of high triglycerides. That means more than one drink a day for women and two drinks a day for men. For some people, even small amounts of alcohol can raise triglycerides. Lose Weight Extra weight, particularly around your waist, raises triglycerides. One of the biggest things you can do to bring your levels down is to take it off. It doesn't have to be dramatic, either. Get Moving If you're carrying around a few extra pounds, starting regular workouts can get you in shape and lower your triglycerides at the same time. Aim for 30 minutes of exercise five days a week, and be sure to break a sweat and get your heart pumping. You can cut your triglycerides by 20% to 30%. If you're new to exercise, try a dance class, go for a swim, or take a brisk walk each day. When Habits Need a Helping Hand If lifestyle changes haven't helped enough, your doctor may suggest adding a prescription medicine. Fibrates, niacin, statins, and high-dose fish oil are a few of the options. Your doctor will look at all your blood fats -- triglycerides and all types of cholesterol -- to decide the best way to protect your heart.

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a serious disease which can, over time, lead to health issues, including stroke and heart attack. Hypertension can also cause kidney and heart disease, plus, it is closely linked to some types of dementia. Because it has no symptoms, people who have hypertension (often labeled "the silent killer") usually don't know it until their blood pressure is measured. Some things may play a role in its development, include - lack of physical exercise, smoking tobacco, alcohol consumption, and a diet consisting of trans fats and animal products. Start by making a giant cookie. We bought a tub of this stuff, used about 80% of it which amounts to about 30 cookies or 800 grams. 2.) Spread it out on a greased pizza pan. We decided to make a crust with it. Don't bother, didn't make a difference. 3.) Bake for 30 minutes at 325°F or until fully cooked. 4.) Meanwhile this is in the oven, grate 2 larges white chocolate baking bars in a bowl and slice circles out of fruit roll-ups for the faux pepperoni slices. Make at least 15. 5.) Take cookie out of oven and let it rest until it is firm. You can accelerate this in the freezer. 6.) Spread on a layer of ice cream, approximately 3 cups. 7.) Spread on a layer of strawberry sauce, 1 Cup (entire jar). 8.) Sprinkle on the white chocolate flakes like mozzarella cheese 9.) Place on your circle pepperoni fruit roll-up pieces. 10.) Put back into the freezer to firm up for an hour or so. Now you can actually slice into this like a pizza and eat a slice in your hand. This makes for not only a crazy awesome dessert, but also makes for a great birthday cake! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nutrition Facts: Serving Size 1 Slice Calories 420 Total Fat 18g Saturated 8g Trans 0g Cholesterol 23mg Sodium 220mg Total Carbs 60g Dietary Fiber 0g Sugars 40g Protein 3g Disclaimer: Nutrition Facts are estimated through MyFitnessPal and should act as a general guideline. Zoe Harcombe, author of the Obesity Epidemic, discusses the importance of getting enough vitamin D from sunlight. When Zoe investigated the cholesterol study of Ansel Keys, she realized we have everything wrong. First of all, the references from his study are very limited and vague. They also did not understand the composition of food. They used a list of "fat containing foods" which included cake and ice cream. When you look at what the US lists as sources of saturated fats, you find cakes, frozen yogurt, potato chips, corn chips, quick bread, donuts, and yeast bread. These are all processed foods and mostly carbohydrates. They also don't have much "real food" in them because it's expensive to use real milk, butter, and eggs. Most of the foods used in the study were full of sucrose and saturated fats. It was a essentially a study of processed foods. We are demonizing the wrong macronutrient. In 1970, Keys claimed that heart disease "tends" to be related to cholesterol, cholesterol "tends" to be related to saturated fat, so heart disease "tends" to be related to saturated fat. It was not until 1993 than he found there was a 0.72 correlation between cholesterol when the men entered the study and heart disease 25 years later. Zoe noticed a correlation between latitude and heart disease. The farther we are away from the equator, the less sun light we are receiving, and the more likely we are to have heart disease because cholesterol is synthesized with vitamin D. Betty demonstrates how to make Orange-Vanilla Frozen Pie. This recipe is from J.M. Hirsch, the food editor for The Associated Press. This pie will remind you of the flavor of Creamsicles! Orange-Vanilla Ice Cream Pie Start to finish: 20 minutes active (plus several hours freezing) Servings: 6 1 pint vanilla ice cream 1 1/2 cups orange sherbet 1 cup orange soda 1 prepared graham cracker pie shell (1 ¼ cups graham cracker crumbs, ¼ cup sugar, 6 ½ tablespoons melted butter, combined and pressed into 9-inch pie dish, then baked at 375 (F) for 7 minutes) 1 1/2 cups heavy cream 1 teaspoon orange extract 1 tablespoon powdered sugar zest of 1 orange In a blender, combine the ice cream, sherbet and orange soda. Blend until smooth, stopping the blender and stirring the mixture as needed to ensure it blends evenly. Pour the mixture into the pie shell, then carefully transfer to the freezer. Freeze for several hours, or until firm. When ready to serve, in a large bowl combine the cream, extract and powdered sugar. Use an electric mixer to whip on high until the cream holds firm peaks. Fold in the orange zest, then mound the whipped cream over the ice cream pie. Let stand at room temperature for 5 minutes, or until thawed just enough to easily slice.
