ESL Teaching Tips: A Lesson Plan for Your Very First Day

04:05
Here are some quick tips for new ESL teachers. This video focuses on developing a workable lesson plan, in this case, I present a plan for what I found to be a fairly successful introductory lesson for both elementary and middle school. At first, you might be tempted to write out elaborate and detailed plans for your ESL classes, where the lesson plan almost becomes a script to be read, rather than a rough guide. This kind of lesson plan is nearly certain to fail miserably. Flexibility is critical to a good lesson plan. Repetition and variation is needed to help the students retain the information covered in class. Try to design a lesson plan in modules, with each chunk being 5-25 minutes. The most important one should come first, and, with a flexible modular design, if the important lesson runs long, one of the latter modules can be eliminated, or covered during the next class. And remember: languages are not learned by listening to a lecture given in that language; language is acquired by engaging with it, by actively using it. If you only remember one thing, remember this: Your students should be talking far more than you are. ~Kyle Clements

Primary Science - Classroom Organisation

19:47
This video considers different organisational strategies for teaching science in the primary classroom. These include managing whole class introductions and practical investigations as well as different types of group work. Advantages and disadvantages of each organisation are presented. Viewers are encouraged to think about how to choose the most appropriate strategy. The video particularly focuses on the need for organisation before a lesson and how the teacher might optimise the learning and assessment of the children during the activities. The video is illustrated with a variety of classroom examples. Types of Organisation 1: Whole Class - Introduction, practical activity, sharing science books, demonstration, drawing the lesson together 2: Group Work - Groups doing different practical activities, circus of different activities, one group only doing science Think about - Making the lesson relevant and stimulating. What needs to be done before the lesson. What equipment is available. How can it be organised. The childrens experience of group work. Time available. What will you do in the lesson The organisation you will choose will depend on - What you want the children to learn. What experience the class already have of group work. The time, equipment and materials available Your planning should include - What you need to collect and set out. Introducing the work. What the children will do. Monitoring and assessing their learning. Helping children of different abilities. Concluding the lesson The video was written and produced by Tina Jarvis, Frankie McKeon and Jon Shears from SCIcentre and University of Leicester ITS Multimedia Services. It was made with the kind cooperation of St Marys CE Primary School, Bitteswell, Leicester. Special thanks go to Linda Cork and Penny Vernon.

The only way you will ever need to teach theme

07:00
More on my blog: http://guidingontheside.blogspot.com/ Broken down into the cognitive steps, students can determine theme with the support of modeling and collaboration. This video shows the strategy for introducing the concept (even though kids in 8th grade were exposed WHAT theme is in prior years, I never assume they were taught HOW to figure it out). After doing this strategy with passing the paper and creating multiple themes, it is simply a matter of reminding students throughout the school year that in order to determine theme you just need to follow these basic steps.

Teen and High School Online Nutrition Lesson Plans: Nutrition Education, Healthy Eating, Activity

01:54
Empower adolescents and teens to make better food choices and improve their health with this five-lesson online nutrition program. Key concepts covered in the Eat Move Win program include: what is a healthy weight/BMI, the importance of eating breakfast and getting enough sleep, what macronutrients and micronutrients we need to function best, and how to set SMART goals. This video explains the benefits of eating a breakfast that is made up of three specific food groups from the five food groups, so you can have hours of energy for learning and physical activity (Lesson 4). Research shows that students who eat breakfast perform better on standardized tests, have more energy for learning and physical activity, eat more nutritious diets in general and snack less late at night. Eat Move Win is an online nutrition curriculum for middle and high school students from Dairy Council of California. Additional information can be found at http://www.healthyeating.org/EMW.
(Free Lesson Plans) Introduction to Chord Based Piano Accompaniment

06:24
You can access the course syllabus down below: Course Syllabus: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1L2CG7tXsaZrGxsBBBrW8jw-31ZzK_Hgsig8_IDV6rzM/edit?usp=sharing You can also access the four lesson plans by emailing me: Email Address: leehe2020@tciscommunity.com My name is Grace Lee, and I am a sophomore at Taejon Christian International school. For my International Baccalaureate MYP5 Personal Project, I decided to create 4 lesson plans and use them to teach 2 peers piano chord-accompaniment. The 4 lessons were intended to teach just enough about chord-accompaniment to teach students how to arrange songs in effective ways of personal expression. As a musician, it’s sometimes hard to appreciate how much chords can do for us. Chords can be and are frequently used by musicians of all levels, from beginning piano players like Sijean or world-famous artists (including Bruno Mars and Avicii just to name a few). Musicians bring chords to life by making music using their understanding of styles, techniques, genres plus their individual creativity to play a piece. This video sums of the process of using my lesson plan to teach Sijean and Eunji the basics of chord accompaniment. The last half of the 4 lessons were used to help my peers arrange 2 songs, one None by Elevation Worship and the other a song of their own choice. Each arrangement was intentional in that they were using techniques and skills to express themselves according to their individual interpretations of the song as well in accordance to their appropriate skill level. These two arrangements illustrate the flexibility of chords. I hope this video inspires you to further learn about chord-based piano accompaniment and encourages you to start being a musician who knows how to make music using chords. I strongly suggest you utilize the plentiful resources on the internet (YouTube is a great place to start) and start investing in a musical hobby (or even a career) you can enjoy for a long time. Steven's Five Minute TFA Lesson Plan

06:12
*Edit: This is the first rough draft of my TFA Five Minute Lesson Plan which I revised to include a second visual aid, and polished language. I was accepted as a 2013 corps member and will do my best to answer any questions potential corps members may have as you prepare for final interviews.* This is my five minute lesson plan which I am practicing for my final interview for TFA on Tuesday. I would love any and all feedback on how to make my plan more effective. I know I made a mistake when I was speaking in my example sentence, "Sammie dunked on LeBron," but I'm confident I will be more aware in my following practice sessions. The two most important aspects of the lesson are: 1) That by the end of the lesson, students should fully understand the objective. 2) That I am prepared, focused and all of my actions support student learning of the objective. My objective: Students will be able to recognize and revise simple sentences written in the passive voice. Subject: Ninth Grade English My final interview is on Tuesday, so I have time to make small revisions based on feedback. Thanks for all your help!
