If you need a license for screening the film (along with a download), please follow the link below: http://removedfilm.myshopify.com/products/license-removed The standard screening license also includes the license to use Removed Part Two (and the download for it) when it's released next year. If you are interested in licensing the footage for a re-edit, please contact us. Originally created for the 168 Film Festival, ReMoved follows the emotional story through the eyes of a young girl taken from her home and placed into foster care. After winning Best Film and Audience Choice at the 168 Film Festival, as well as winning Best Film at the Enfoque Film Festival and being an official selection at the Santa Barbara Independent Film Festival, we're extremely excited to share ReMoved online. "It would be impossible to fully understand the life and emotions of a child going through the foster care system, but this short narrative film portrays that saga in a poetic light, with brushes of fear, anger, sadness, and a tiny bit of hope." -Santa Barbara Independent This short film wouldn't be possible without the help of some of my incredible friends. First, my wife, who schemed this project up with me, and was willing to do me the huge favor of writing and producing it. Without her partnership, this would not have happened, and definitely would not have been such a fun process. We were inspired to create this film while in foster parent training. And then of course Tony Cruz. I asked him early on if he'd be willing to tackle this with me. I wasn't sure if I was really going to pursue it unless he said yes. He graciously agreed and was, to me, a huge source of confidence in knowing this project would turn out well. He and i discussed everything during the pre-production, and i counted on his creative mind to keep me on the right path. He even persuaded another key creative on the project, Greg Pickard, to join us. On Set Tony was my right hand man. On set, if I just wasn't feeling it, I had the trust in him to be able to just hand the scene off to him and know he would make it work. And he stepped in plenty of times when i just needed a break, or a separate perspective. Some of the best moments in the film are of his doing. Go check him out at tonycruz.co We were very fortunate with Abby White, the young actress. Without her we wouldn't have a film. Her parents were so amazing as well. I don't think they anticipated how much involvement it would take on their end, but they stuck with it the whole way. Abby's dad, Andy White from Good Times Guitar, even recorded Abby's Voice Over for us in his studio. We also owe a huge thanks to our cast: Sabrina Culver, the birth mom, who brought so much to her role http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0191747/ and also Jordan Nice, who gave a phenomenal performance as the abusive boyfriend: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2059038/ . Last but certainly not least, Kyra Locke, who played the committed caring foster mom, who truly brought such an amazing contribution to the story: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2753903/ We can vouch for each of them. They are worth working with!

Ringling Bros: lions, tigers and leopard to be shipped to German circus after show’s end - TomoNews

07:57
PALMETTO, FLORIDA — Though Ringling Bros. circus has put on its final show, the rights of the animals it closed down to protect may still be forced to perform abroad. Long marketed as “The Greatest Show on Earth,” on May 21 Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus finally drew its curtains for the final time. The company’s decision to call it quits came after years of public backlash condemning the training methods used to get the non-human performers do certain stunts never before seen in the wild. According to documents obtained by CBS News, Feld Entertainment, the company that owns Ringling Bros., is attempting to obtain an Endangered Species Act permit from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, with plans of sending 15 big cats to Cirkus Krone, a circus in Munich, Germany that uses animals in its acts. The permit is meant to be issued for applications which demonstrate the transfer of the animals will enhance the propagation or survival of the species. However, the Animal Legal Defense Fund claims making a nominal donation to any conservation group is enough to fill the requirements. Feld Entertainment claims the animals are owned by their trainer, Alexander Lacey, and as he has no further employment here in the States, he will be taking his lions, tigers, and leopard to Germany, as is his right. Animal activists have pleaded that the big cats be retired to local animal sanctuaries. The public is free to contest the permit request for 30 days as of May 26, 2017. ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans. Mum Loves Drugs, Not Me (Drug Addiction Documentary) - Real Stories

47:47
Check out our new website for more incredible documentaries: HD and ad-free. https://goo.gl/LwMcmY Dispatches: Mum Loves Drugs, Not Me, reveals the destruction and despair drugs wreak upon families and how it is the children and the grandparents who suffer the consequences. It is estimated that around 350,000 children in the UK have parents with a serious drug problem – with 10 babies being born to heroin-addicted mothers every day. Yet in contrast to the billions of pounds spent on helping the users themselves, there is a serious lack of specialist help for their children - many of whom are at serious risk. In this Dispatches film, award-winning filmmakers Brian Woods and Kate Blewett (China’s Stolen Children, The Dying Rooms) reveal the devastating impact that illegal drugs have on these neglected children, whose childhoods are blighted by chaos and danger - and the effect on their grandparents who are left to pick up the pieces and become their full-time carers. Every second of your life you are under attack. Bacteria, viruses, spores and more living stuff wants to enter your body and use its resources for itself. The immune system is a powerful army of cells that fights like a T-Rex on speed and sacrifices itself for your survival. Without it you would die in no time. This sounds simple but the reality is complex, beautiful and just awesome. An animation of the immune system. We are thinking of making an App for tablets out of this video. Would you like that? Riece turned to Planned Parenthood for sex education | Planned Parenthood Video

With more than 600 health centers across the country, Planned Parenthood organizations serve all patients with care and compassion, with respect and without judgment. Through health centers, programs in schools and communities, and online resources, Planned Parenthood is a trusted source of reliable health information that allows people to make informed health decisions. We do all this because we care passionately about helping people lead healthier lives. Riece: I was the first person out of my mom's side of the family to graduate high school without getting pregnant. In school there was no, like, in depth learning about the woman's body. I always wished I had like a big sister to talk to about those things. Everything I learned women's health and sex came from Cosmopolitan Magazines. When I lost my virginity, that same month, the recession hit and my dad lost his job as an engineer, so we lost our insurance. I was just an uninsured sexually active teen and I needed birth control. So my aunt suggested Planned Parenthood. The visit to Planned Parenthood set my life on a different path. Without Planned Parenthood, I wonder if I would have gotten pregnant. I was the first to get a college degree and I don't know if that would have happened if I hadn't gone to Planned Parenthood.

Oprah's POWERFUL Secret to SUCCESS Using The Law Of Attraction - Oprah Winfrey Show

This movie, The Secret, was created by Australian Rhonda Byrne, and she says that if you follow its philosophy, you can create the life you want—whether that means getting out of debt, finding a more fulfilling job or even falling in love. Rhonda says she stumbled on what she calls The Secret at the end of 2004. At the time, everything in Rhonda's life had fallen apart—physically, emotionally and financially—and she was in "total despair." Then her father died suddenly, and she was worried about her grief-stricken mother. "I wept and wept and wept, and I didn't want my daughter to see me sobbing," Rhonda says. That's when Rhonda's daughter gave her a copy of The Science of Getting Rich, a book written in 1910 by Wallace D. Wattles. "Something inside of me had me turn the pages one by one, and I can still remember my tears hitting the pages as I was reading it," Rhonda says. "It gave me a glimpse of The Secret. It was like a flame inside of my heart. And with every day since, it's just become a raging fire of wanting to share all of this with the world." After that first discovery, Rhonda read hundreds of books, listened to hundreds of hours of audio tapes and scoured the Internet for more information. She says she traced the idea of The Secret through history—all the way from 3500 B.C. to the present day. "Since I discovered The Secret, every single moment of my entire life has changed, and I am living my life for the first time," Rhonda says. Rhonda defines The Secret as the law of attraction, which is the principle that "like attracts like." Rhonda calls it "the most powerful law in the universe," and says it is working all the time. "What we do is we attract into our lives the things we want, and that is based on what we're thinking and feeling," Rhonda says. The principle explains that we create our own circumstances by the choices we make in life. And the choices we make are fueled by our thoughts—which means our thoughts are the most powerful things we have here on earth. To help teach the philosophy, Rhonda created the DVD The Secret, which features experts including the Rev. Dr. Michael Beckwith, James Arthur Ray, Lisa Nichols and Jack Canfield—who not only teach other people about The Secret, but say they are successful in their own lives because they know and use the principle. The law of attraction means that everything that happens to you—good or bad—you attract to yourself. Everything you focus on can have an effect on your life—from books to magazines to thoughts. The "Indian Problem"

12:32
As American power and population grew in the 19th century, the United States gradually rejected the main principle of treaty-making—that tribes were self-governing nations—and initiated policies that undermined tribal sovereignty. For Indian nations, these policies resulted in broken treaties, vast land loss, removal and relocation, population decline, and cultural decimation. The "Indian Problem" was produced to serve as the central video in the exhibition "Nation to Nation: Treaties Between the United States and American Indian Nations," on view at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC. This video introduces visitors to the section of the exhibition titled "Bad Acts, Bad Paper."

Mean Girls (6/10) Movie CLIP - You're Plastic (2004) HD

Mean Girls movie clips: http://j.mp/15vUVXE BUY THE MOVIE: http://amzn.to/tL3OPn Don't miss the HOTTEST NEW TRAILERS: http://bit.ly/1u2y6pr CLIP DESCRIPTION: A huge fight erupts when Janis (Lizzy Caplan) calls out Cady (Lindsay Lohan) for her behavior and says she's transformed into a Plastic. FILM DESCRIPTION: Tina Fey from Saturday Night Live wrote and appears in this comedy about the alternately funny and terrifying pecking order among teenage girls. Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) is a 15-year-old girl who has spent most of her life in Africa, where she was home-schooled by her zoologist parents. When her family relocates to the United States, Cady finds herself attending a high school in suburban Illinois, where she gets a crash course in the various sub-strata of the student body: the jocks, the cheerleaders, the stoners, the "cool" kids, and so on. Much to her surprise, Cady finds herself embraced by a clique of rich and popular girls known to outsiders as "the Plastics," led by Regina George (Rachel McAdams), Gretchen Weiners (Lacey Chabert), and Karen Smith (Amanda Seyfried). While Cady is grateful for her new friends, it doesn't take long for her to realize how manipulative they can be, and she soon discovers she's violated an unwritten law when she goes out on a date with Aaron (Jonathan Bennett), who is charming, good looking...and Regina's former boyfriend. It isn't long before Regina and her pals are on the warpath, and Cady must face a level of vengeful behavior for which years in the jungle never prepared her. Joining Tina Fey in the supporting cast are fellow SNL players Amy Poehler, Ana Gasteyer, and Tim Meadows. The screenplay for Mean Girls was based in part on Queen Bees and Wannabes: Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, Boyfriends and Other Realities of Adolescence, a book by professional youth counselor Rosalind Wiseman. Your body language may shape who you are | Amy Cuddy

21:03
Body language affects how others see us, but it may also change how we see ourselves. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy argues that "power posing" -- standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don't feel confident -- can boost feelings of confidence, and might have an impact on our chances for success. (Note: Some of the findings presented in this talk have been referenced in an ongoing debate among social scientists about robustness and reproducibility. The Civil War, Part I: Crash Course US History #20

12:01
In which John Green ACTUALLY teaches about the Civil War. In part one of our two part look at the US Civil War, John looks into the causes of the war, and the motivations of the individuals who went to war. The overarching causes and the individual motivations were not always the same, you see. John also looks into why the North won, and whether that outcome was inevitable. The North's industrial and population advantages are examined, as are the problems of the Confederacy, including its need to build a nation at the same time it was fighting a war. As usual, John doesn't get much into the actual battle by battle breakdown. He does talk a little about the overarching strategy that won the war, and Grant's plan to just overwhelm the South with numbers. Grant took a lot of losses in the latter days of the war, but in the end, it did lead to the surrender of the South. If you want to learn more about the Civil War, we recommend these books: Battle Cry of Freedom by James McPherson The Civil War by Shelby Foote Hey teachers and students - Check out CommonLit's free collection of reading passages and curriculum resources to learn more about the events of this episode. Without changing a part of me How do I get to heaven? All my time is wasted Feeling like my heart's mistaken, oh So if I'm losing a piece of me Maybe I don't want heaven? [Verse 2: Betty Who] The truth runs wild Like the rain to the sea Trying to set straight the lines that I trace To find some release This voice inside Has been eating at me Trying to embrace the picture I paint And colour me free [Chorus: Troye Sivan] Without losing a piece of me How do I get to heaven? Without changing a part of me How do I get to heaven? All my time is wasted Feeling like my heart's mistaken, oh So if I'm losing a piece of me Maybe I don't want heaven? Where US Politics Came From: Crash Course US History #9

13:57
In which John Green teaches you where American politicians come from. In the beginning, soon after the US constitution was adopted, politics were pretty non-existent. George Washington was elected president with no opposition, everything was new and exciting, and everyone just got along. For several months. Then the contentious debate about the nature of the United States began, and it continues to this day. Washington and his lackey/handler Alexander Hamilton pursued an elitist program of federalism. They attempted to strengthen the central government, create a strong nation-state, and leave less of the governance to the states, They wanted to create debt, encourage manufacturing, and really modernize the new nation/ The opposition, creatively known as the anti-federalists, wanted to build some kind of agrarian pseudo-paradise where every (white) man could have his own farm, and live a free, self-reliant life. The founding father who epitomized this view was Thomas Jefferson. By the time Adams became president, the anti-federalists had gotten the memo about how alienating a name like anti-federalist can be. It's so much more appealing to voters if your party is for something rather than being defined by what you're against, you know? In any case, Jefferson and his acolytes changed their name to the Democratic-Republican Party, which covered a lot of bases, and proceeded to protest nearly everything Adams did. Lest you think this week is all boring politics, you'll be thrilled to hear this episode has a Whiskey Rebellion, a Quasi-War, anti-French sentiment, some controversial treaties, and something called the XYZ Affair, which sounds very exciting. Learn all about it this week with John Green. Hey teachers and students - Check out CommonLit's free collection of reading passages and curriculum resources to learn more about the events of this episode. Much of America's politics came from debates between democratic republican Thomas Jefferson and federalist Alexander Hamilton: https://www.commonlit.org/texts/alexander-hamilton While Jefferson would go on to become president, Hamilton heavily influenced President George Washington who set many American political ideals in his farewell address that Hamilton helped craft: https://www.commonlit.org/texts/washington-s-farewell-address Follow us! http://www.twitter.com/thecrashcourse http://www.twitter.com/realjohngreen http://www.twitter.com/crashcoursestan http://www.twitter.com/raoulmeyer http://www.twitter.com/saysdanica http://www.twitter.com/thoughtbubbler Turn on the captions. Subscribe to Humankind's YouTube channel: http://bit.ly/1IrNzUN Like Humankind on Facebook: http://bit.ly/fbhkvids ************************************************************ Anne Saker, Cincinnati.com - On a small family farm atop a verdant hill near Falmouth, Kentucky, Luke Dennison, 8, leads a technological revolution with his left hand. A gauntlet-like device that fits snugly on his arm allows Luke to ride horses and play video games with his brothers though he was born without left fingers. "My friends think it's really cool," Luke said. Luke has a "hand" thanks to his parents Gregg and Stephanie Dennison taking advantage of the proliferating technology of 3-D printing. The Dennisons also tapped into an Internet community for blueprints and encouragement. "I knew nothing about 3-D printing before this," said Gregg Dennison. "Now I'd love to do something full-time because of the impact that these hands have on Luke." In general, medicine has seized upon 3-D printing. In February, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center used a 3-D printer to create a model of a patient's heart to practice a tricky procedure before surgery. Researchers made a model of a 500-year-old Peruvian mummy while it was in Cincinnati in March. This month, a company with a Blue Ash manufacturing facility announced that it now has FDA approval to manufacture pharmaceuticals with 3-D printing. Luke Dennison was born in 2006 with symbrachydactyly of the left hand, meaning he did not develop fingers, although he has a stub-like thumb. People with symbrachydactyly generally are not candidates for prosthetics, and the only other medical option for Luke was surgery. So the Dennisons believed Luke would simply adapt to what they call his limb difference. But one day in 2013, the Dennisons saw a television broadcast about a teacher using a 3-D printer to make parts for a student's "hand." "My wife and I thought, 'That's amazing, let's look into it,' " Gregg Dennison said. "We started doing research, and then we decided to get a printer so we can have the resources to do this for Luke ourselves." The Dennisons also found the E-nable online community, devoted to using 3-D printing to make hands for children. The Dennisons bought their first machine for about $600 and manufactured Luke's first "hand." Gregg Dennison went to gatherings where other people swapped information and ideas. In Baltimore, he met a co-founder of a Dutch firm, Ultimaker, that was building fast, precise devices little bigger than a microwave oven. On Christmas Eve, a package arrived at the farm, where the Dennisons and their seven children live with six horses, four dogs, cats and chickens. Gregg opened it on Christmas Day: The company had sent its Ultimaker 2, a machine that runs from $1,450 to more than $3,000. "What I like," said Stephanie Dennison, "is the ease of use. My job generally is shoes and backpacks, but I can set it up to make parts." 3-D printing uses plastic filament that feeds into the printer, which melts the plastic and builds the part. Gregg Dennison said the Ultimaker 2 does not even need to be connected to a computer. The machine has a microchip slot and can be directed by onboard controls. The hand that Luke uses for school is essentially a holding tool. He can't apply a strong grip, so he can't, for example, play on monkey bars. The fingers operate with nylon string and rubber bands, opening and closing in concert. But from E-nable plans, Dennison also made a device that he calls the "Swiss Army Knife," with interchangeable parts, such as a smartphone platform or a ball joint with a slotted grip to hold a broom. Responding to Sex Trafficking of Women and Girls from Mexico and Latin America

59:38
Every day in Mexico, young women and girls are preyed upon and recruited into human trafficking networks that sell sex in residential brothels, through escort services, and in cantinas across the U.S. Powerful networks concentrated in Mexico enslave tens of thousands of women in an underground sex economy in the U.S. Polaris is focused on understanding and dismantling sex trafficking networks that target women and girls from Mexico and Latin America while simultaneously building up effective, culturally competent services on both sides of the border. The workshop will focus on tools and resources that address the immediate and unique service needs of these survivors, supporting them through a comprehensive response to this form of sex trafficking. Taking into account a nuanced understanding of migration, gender norms, and cultural context, advocates will learn how to respond to victims effectively and immediately with an eye towards individual empowerment and economic sustainability. Additionally, we will discuss the importance of engaging key stakeholders and communities to be equipped to recognize and address human trafficking. Finally, we will touch on public outreach focusing on awareness-raising activities that will prevent further victimization of vulnerable women and girls in the region. Presented by Karen Romero, Clinical Survivor Service Manager, Polaris.
