T. Greets students and warms up with a little conversation. SS. Participate in conversation as a class in order to promote code-switching from their native language/s to English. T. Introduces the topic: articles, and asks SS if they have ever heard of them. SS. Define articles if possible. T. Asks for and answers any questions students may have. T. Discusses the basic idea of articles, which preceed nouns. Gives examples using SS native language if possible and/or discusses the fact that they are not present in said language/s. May ask students if they are present, if he/she does not know. SS. Answer questions regarding articles. Ask conceptual questions if they have them. T. Gives examples of English definite article: the book, the cat, the orange. Explains the indefinite article: refers to an unknown object, I.E., and orange in a group of oranges, rather than the exact orange that you are eating. Explains the difference between "an" and "a." "An" is used if the word after it begins with a vowel: an orange book, while "a" is used if the word following the article is not a vowel. For example: a book. Asks SS if they can think of examples of definite article use. Asks for examples of using the indefinite article. SS. Provide examples of definite and indefinite article use.

Part of the revolutionary LD System of learning to drive. This video shows the key points you need to learn in preparation for the driving lesson on Gears. The video is used in conjunction with the LDC driving skills workbook. These resources together with guidance from an expert LDC driving instructor provide one of the most effective and efficient ways to learn to drive and become a safe driver for life. If you want to see this approach in practice view the videos in the playlists entitled "Student centred learning" where Bob Morton supports Bobby-Jo as she learns to drive. Too many driving instructors focus too much attention on telling their pupils what to do and what to think! This approach only fosters dependency, doubt and blind obedience, such that once the test is passed they do all the things they were told not to do. The LDC approach is designed to foster self-reliance, confidence and responsibility resulting in safer drivers who learn to drive far more quickly and thoroughly. Unlike traditional instruction LDC heavily promotes student centred learning. This involves the student being encouraged to take more responsibility for their own development by using the LD System materials before and after each lesson and by using discovery learning with self determination and reflection rather than being told what to do by the instructor. In particular talk through instruction, prompted practice and long winded explanations are avoided, if at all possible - instead encouraging the student to work it out for themselves. Topics Covered Public Switched Telephone Network Central Offices Trunk Lines PBX and Voicemail Systems PBX Stations Voicemail Subcribers Class Notes Introduction Telephone systems are not complicated if you understand how they work. A Word on VoIP VoIP is not a telephone system PSTN PSTN -- Public Switched Telephone Network is like the Internet, but for telephone communication NADP -- North American Dialing Plan -- Is the system for routing telephone calls. Central Office -- All telephone lines connect to a local central office Trunk Lines Every Trunk Line has a telephone number A Trunk Line allows for 1 incoming or outgoing call. You can have far more telephones in a building then you have trunk lines. Incoming Trunk lines are setup in Hunt Groups. If the main phone number is busy the call is automatically forwarded to the next number in the Hunt Group Incoming Hunt Groups are setup by your local telephone company. Outgoing calls can be routed to use selected trunk lines. This in configured in your PBX. PBX and Voicemail The PBX routes telephone calls The Voicemail system provides all audio messaging. (Voicemail boxes, Message Boards, and Auto Attendant Messages) Stations All devices that connect to the PBX are "Stations". This includes telephones, call boxes, intercom systems, etc. There are 2 types of stations; Analogue and Digital. Analogue and Digital stations have to be connected to appropriate ports on the PBX. An analogue phone cannot connect to a digital port and vice versa. Almost all fax machines and phones you buy at retail stores are analogue. If your new fax machine does not work it may be because it's plugged into a digital line. Subscribers Subscribers are users of the Voicemail system. Subscribers do not have to have stations Voicemail ports are the number of connections to the Voicemail system at any one time. This includes not just people retrieving their voicemail, but also incoming calls that connect to Auto Attendant messages. Final Thoughts Be careful before you touch! Most older telephone and voicemail systems were administered using a phone keypad, NOT and computer interface. If you mess something up it can be very difficult to rebuild a deleted Auto Attendant or such. Resources North American Numbering Plan PSTN -- Wikipedia

Molly Tuttle's right hand technique is a melding of several uniquely virtuosic picking approaches: the forearm anchor of her rhythm comping, and the palm anchor she uses for crosspicked lead lines. "White Freightliner Blues" is a showcase for her ability to switch effortlessly between these modes, even while singing. In this clip from her Masters in Mechanics interview, she gives us a closeup look at how the switch happens. The full interview includes tablature for Freightliner along with 41 other slow motion examples that offer an in-depth look at Molly's astonishing flat pick fluency. Join us in the Cracking the Code studio with Andy Wood as we take an up-close look at his incredible acoustic guitar and mandolin technique! Have questions for Andy? Submit them here: https://troygrady.com/live/ --- Andy’s amazing right hand movements across electric guitar, acoustic guitar and mandolin share a family resemblance in their super fluid use of wrist motion mechanics. These movements adapt in subtle yet important ways to the task at hand, from the big box of the Martin D28 Dreadnought to the tiny violin-sized mandolin — among both the largest and smallest picked instruments most of us are likely to encounter. While it’s awesome to know that the same basic ingredients can work on such disparate mechanical problems, it’s another to actually make that happen. In this live broadcast we’re going to boil down the exact arm and hand setups, anchor points, and picking motions Andy uses to generate his famously fluid and accurate sound on both of these important instruments. Even if you’re not an acoustic or mandolin player, the experience of making your technique work in the smaller format can be an invaluable type of cross-training for learning complicated hand movements on your usual axe.

Joining and leaving a UK motorway driving lesson http://www.driving-school-beckenham.c... This video will hopefully be useful if you're about to drive on a motorway for the first time and need some motorway tips or visiting from another country and plan on driving in the UK. A lot of drivers have never had any motorway driving lessons. You must pass your driving test before driving on a motorway as learner drivers are not allowed. Here is a full list of who MUST NOT use the motorway: Pedestrians Holders of provisional motorcycle or car licences Riders of motorcycles under 50 cc, cyclists Horse riders Certain slow-moving vehicles and those carrying oversized loads (except by special permission) Agricultural vehicles Powered wheelchairs/powered mobility scooters. In this video we have a look at how to join a motorway. The slip road is used to adjust your speed to that of vehicles already on the motorway. Vehicles on the motorway have priority. Some drivers will change lanes to allow you to move on but don't assume they will. Stay in the left hand lane so that you can get used to the higher speed and the higher speed of others around you. Leaving a motorway. Look out for road signs that will show you how far away it is until you have to leave the motorway. Make sure that you're in the left hand lane in plenty of time before leaving the motorway as you don't want to cut across lanes at the last moment. If you do miss your exit then just drive on until the next one. This is just a rough guide to joining and leaving a motorway. We strongly recommend taking some motorway lessons with a professional driving instructor. ☕️ Buy us a coffee https://ko-fi.com/T6T7EISN Overtaking on a motorway tips https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzhsfT7ysH0 Please subscribe for our latest videos and give us a thumbs up like if this video has helped you as it helps us to make more videos. If you're learning to drive then make sure that you get professional help from a fully qualified driving instructor. This video is NOT an alternative to professional driving lessons and is only a rough guide. This video was filmed in the UK. Laws and rules in your country may vary. Just because your layout doesn’t have five stops and three branch lines doesn’t mean you can’t run realistic model railroad switching operations on your layout. It just means you need to get a little bit creative with the way you utilize the trackage on a small layout. Whether it’s running laps to extend your train’s operation or rearranging a train’s order using spurs and sidings, there are always real-life scenarios you can use to run successful and entertaining model railroad switching operations on a small layout. In this lesson, we teach you how to make your model railroad switching operations more involved and thought intensive, so you can spend more time enjoying your layout. In this talk, Dr. Teresa Lynn discusses the use of the Irish language on Twitter and the importance of social media for minority languages. Dr. Teresa Lynn is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the ADAPT Centre, Dublin City University. She completed her PhD through a cotutelle agreement between Dublin City University (Ireland) and Macquarie University Sydney (Australia), investigating parsing of the Irish language. She built the first syntactically-annotated corpus (treebank) for Irish and with that, trained the first statistical computational parsing models for Irish that can identify the syntax of Irish sentences. Teresa was a Fulbright-Enterprise Ireland Awardee in 2014-2015 and spent time in St Louis University, Missouri working with Professor Kevin Scannell on the automated analysis of Irish tweets. "Spanglish" is a hybrid style of speaking that combines grammar and vocabulary from both English and Spanish. Contrary to popular belief, Spanglish doesn't reflect poor knowledge of either language. Instaed, Spanglish speakers generally command both individual languages and an additional set of rules governing how, when, and why to switch between the two. Linguists call this "code-switching." Spanglish reflects the complex mixture of identities that characterize Latino life in America. Excerpt from the documentary "Spanish Voices" Available on DVD: https://languageandlife.org/documentaries/spanish-voices -------------------------------------------- ABOUT SPANISH VOICES The unprecedented growth of the Spanish-speaking populations in the Southeastern US has led to major language issues about the co-existence of English and Spanish. Spanish Voices tells the story of those who have participated in this change- through interviews with recent immigrants, long-term residents, musicians, dancers, language instructors, and students. Their narratives show how their experiences are unique to the Southeast as well as common to language contact situations worldwide. How do gears work? Why is it that the first gear gives you the most torque and hence the most acceleration? Since the first gear gives me the most acceleration why do I need to switch gears? Wouldn't it be ideal to stay in first gear. Essentially my question is why switch gears and what is the concept behind this point? This video attempts to answer these questions. Understand the fundamentals of Google Tag Manager, from setting up your account and container to creating tags within the intuitive interface. Anna explains how the tool can help you make key changes to your website easily and without the need for a web developer. She also covers the main benefits of switching to Tag Manager and explains how the code works. Implementing Google Tag Manager allows for faster, more efficient management of code “tags” and provides a platform for version control and rollbacks if things don’t go to plan. Tag Manager comes with a growing number of pre-set tags, including Google Analytics, ComScore and many more, but you can also fire your own custom tags, including custom HTML. With Tag Manager, multiple users can have access to the portal, with the appropriate access (read/write, etc.) and a clear log of changes can be recorded via effective use of the Version Control facility, making code management not only more efficient but also more secure. Since Anna recorded this video in 2013, Google Tag Manager V2 has been launched which has made it easier to create and manage Tags, Triggers (previously Rules) and Variables (previously Macros). GTM V2 looks and feels much cleaner and is generally much easier to use, being more closely relatable to the layout and navigation we are familiar with in Google Analytics. Let's talk about sewing zigzag stitches. The first thing that you want to do when you're sewing a zigzag is to change your machine from straight stitch to zigzag. On my sewing machine, I have a section here called pattern, which is the different stitch types, and I'm going to twist the dial until I get to my zigzags. Now, on my machine the stitch width for zigzags, so if you're going zigzag it's how wide the zigzag is, that's in the same area as the stitch selector. On your machine you might have a separate width dial, but I don't. I'm going to go ahead and set mine to as wide as it can possibly go, the widest zigzag. Now I'm going to go to my stitch length. The stitch length on a zigzag is how far apart each stitch is. So you can have a really long zigzag or you could have a very short zigzag. I'm going to do in the middle, I'll just do 2.5. Then you are almost ready to go. One of the most important things that you have to remember if you're going to do zigzag is you have to change your presser foot. Right now the presser foot that is set on my machine is for straight stitching only. You can see the little tiny hole the needle goes into. When we sew zigzag the needle bounces from left to right, so if we did that on this foot we would break our needle and possibly break the machine. What I'm going to do on my machine is I have a quick release lever and I'm just going to push that and the foot comes right off, set that aside. Now I'm going to use this foot which has a wide opening for the needle so the needle can bounce left to right on our zigzags. I'm just going to put that on and then I'm going to take my needle thread and put it underneath the presser foot and put both threads towards the back of the machine. Now we're ready to stitch our zigzag. I'm going to take this fabric and we're going to fold it in half as if we're stitching two pieces of fabric together. We're going to put it underneath the presser foot, put it down. We're using our 5/8ths of an inch seam guide on the right, fabric to the left. Then we're just going to sew our zigzag. You can see what's happening here, our needle is on the right and now it bounces to the left, to the right and to the left. Just to show you, if you change the width of your zigzag, this zigzag is really wide. We just made a more narrow zigzag and then let's show you a short zigzag. We can compare these stitches to see what all these different zigzags look like. Here we have a stitch length of 2.5, it's 2.5 from each peak, and then this is also a stitch length 2.5 from each peak. Here we've just changed the width so this is a wider zigzag and this is a more narrow zigzag. Then on this last stitching we've changed the length as well, so now from each peak there's less of a space. I went down to almost a 1, so almost 1 millimeter between each of these peaks. That's how you sew zigzags.
