Physical Activity Idea - Can't Touch This
In this small-sided invasion game, participants have opportunities to practice offense and defense that can be applied to numerous sports. This activity was taken from the Recipe Card Lesson Plans: http://www.everactive.org/recipe-card-lesson-plans-for-physical-education The Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) approach was developed by researchers at Loughborough University in the United Kingdom to tap into children's inherent desire to play. Using ideas embedded within movement education, Bunker and Thorpe (1982) developed the idea of TGfU around teaching kids games by playing games. Rather than teach specific sport units (e.g., volleyball unit, soccer unit), participants gain the skills and knowledge of a variety of games associated with four game categories: (a) target (e.g., curling, bowling), (b) striking/ fielding (e.g., cricket, baseball), (c) net/wall (e.g., volleyball, tennis), and (d) invasion (e.g., handball, basketball). -- adapted from PlaySport.net

How to teach Kids | from a Prague kindergarten, part 1 | English for Children
How to manage 15+ Czech five year old kids in your classroom, if you only speak English? It´s easy, no worries. You need a clear and structured lesson plan, you need to be a leader and you need to show a big warm smile. Use body language too and you will succeed. Children love to be surprised, entertained, they love physical activities and once you do all of it, you can introduce and drill any language you like, even comparatives.

Action Words, Part 1 (Classroom Physical Activity Breaks)
Colleen Evans discusses and demonstrates a physical activity for a classroom, where children move to action words in a book with action words (such as "Barnyard Dance"). Grade Level: K4-2 To skip the introduction, go to 2:43 Addresses Physical Education Standard 1 ("Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.") Part 1 focuses on teaching students the words of the story. Part 2 has the teacher reading the students the story and the students act out the part of the story through movement. Parts 1 and 2 should be done on separate days. Shared as part of the Active Schools Initiative, which provides strategies to teachers and students for motivating students to be physically active outside of their physical education classes. http://dpi.wi.gov/sspw/physicaled.html Video produced by Milwaukee Public Schools with support from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Elementary PE Dribbling with Basketball Lesson (Tom Winieki)
Elementary PE Teacher Tom Winieki teaches a lesson on basketball dribbling to his 4th graders in March of 2013. The video was submitted to the NFL as part of Tom's effort to become the 2013 NFL Network Physical Education Teacher of the Year. He submitted it along with this lesson plan and he actually won the award!! Not shown in this lesson is his warm up, which, in a nutshell has the class began with a team marathon where each student wore a pedometer. The kids put themselves in teams and run laps at the beginning of each class. They add them up and try to get to 26 miles in 4 weeks. If they finish early, they donate their extra laps each day to the team/class of their choice so we get all classes to 26 miles by the end of 4 weeks. Also not shown is the full ending of the class but it ended with the students adding up their pedometer steps and adding that to their running total of steps. They earn sneaker medals for every 10,000 steps.
