01:30
A life changing event like pregnancy often influences a woman’s awareness of her health. Many mothers-to-be do whatever it takes to support the growth of a healthy baby, including nutritional supplementation. Vitamin D is one particular nutrient of great benefit, and if mother and child don’t have enough, the risk of certain complications, such as pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes and preterm birth go up. Vitamin D is also a building block of healthy bones and teeth, so adequate intake is crucial for fetal development. To learn what the right amount is for you, please check with your obstetrician.

What is the safe dose of vitamin D during pregnancy?-Dr. H S Chandrika

01:23
Coming to the dosage of Vitamin D, in a routine pregnancy it is enough if you give about 400 international units of Vitamin D along with calcium. But in some cases when we expect that there is deficiency of Vitamin D in the diet, then it is better to give 100 international units of Vitamin D along with calcium. But in some cases where we see severe deficiency of Vitamin D, it can be known only through investigations, that is through the blood levels then it is recommended to taker 60000 international units of Vitamin D per week for about 5 to 6 weeks.

The Importance of Calcium During Pregnancy

02:03
The mineral calcium is crucial for the fetus during pregnancy to help build strong bones and teeth. If mom’s not getting enough, she’s at a higher risk of pregnancy-induced hypertension (pre-eclampsia), and preterm delivery. Most prenatal supplements (surprisingly) don’t contain much calcium, so it must be obtained through diet and quality supplementation. To maximize calcium absorption, divide your intake throughout the day, take a dose of calcium at bedtime, and combine your calcium with vitamin D, which helps your body use the calcium. Before starting any new supplements while pregnant, please talk to your obstetrician.

Study Says Vitamin D While Pregnant Doesn't Boost Infant Bone Health

00:46
According to a new British study, taking vitamin D supplements during pregnancy does not improve a baby's bone density. Researchers did say; however; that for babies born in the winter the vitamin supplementation could help with seasonal loss of sunlight. Previously, pregnancy guidelines in the United Kingdom had recommended Vitamin D supplements for all pregnant women. The study included more than 1,000 women who were 14 to 17 weeks pregnant. Half took a vitamin D capsule daily, and the other half took a placebo. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists only recommends supplements for pregnant women who have vitamin D deficiency. http://www.upi.com/Health_News/2016/03/02/Vitamin-D-while-pregnant-wont-boost-most-infants-bone-health-study-says/7501456934841/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Follow us on Twitter: @foods4health1 Recipes4Health: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2bZhXBHIb51n1fE3VWPmcQ/videos To learn more about the health benefits of food, visit: http://www.benefitsoffood.blogspot.com Vitamin D is very important for our bodies since it effects a number of bodily functions. We often get this vitamin from exposure to sunlight, but it is also obtained by eating certain foods such as fish and dairy products. Vitamin D supplementation is also popular, since getting enough of this vitamin is difficult from diet alone. Unfortunately, there are quite a few individuals who are deficient in this vitamin without even knowing it as the signs and symptoms are either subtle or not well known. Over time this could have a negative effect on an individuals quality of life. Lets discuss some signs and symptoms of vitamin D deficiency. 1. Those who are vitamin D deficient may feel more fatigued and tired. Since there are so many reasons why we can feel tired and fatigued during the day, such as lack of sleep or obesity, vitamin D deficiency is often overlooked. Vitamin D deficiency can cause daytime fatigue or even make it harder to get out of bed in the mornings, even with quality sleep. 2. Vitamin D plays an important role in keeping our immune system strong and free from different bacteria and illness. This is because vitamin D directly effects the cells that are responsible for fighting against infection. Therefore, another sign and symptom of vitamin D deficiency is getting sick more often. Low levels of vitamin D can be a contributing factor to becoming infected with cold and flus more often. As well, it has been found that taking vitamin D supplements may reduce the risk of certain respiratory tract infections. 3. Another possible symptom of vitamin D deficiency is bone and lower back pain. Vitamin D is an important vitamin for maintaining overall bone health. It supports bone health and helps with the body’s absorption of calcium. It has been found that those individuals with a vitamin D deficiency were more like to have back pain which often limited their daily activities. As well, they were also more likely to have bone pain through out their bodies, such as in their legs and joints. A deficiency in this vitamin will not only cause bone pain, but it can also cause bone loss since it not only helps with calcium absorption, but also bone metabolism. This can lead to lower bone mineral density. 4. Vitamin D deficiency may also negatively effect our mood. Feelings of depression may be a sign of vitamin D deficiency. This has often been linked to older adults. By being deficient in this vitamin, it may also cause seasonal depression during the colder months, when exposure to sunlight is limited. Depression and all mental health symptoms are complex and should be discussed with your medical practitioner to determine its exact cause and remedy. 5. Lastly, another sign and symptom of vitamin D deficiency may be hair loss. When hair loss is severe, this can be the result of nutrient deficiency. Hair loss may be a sign of vitamin D deficiency in female-patten hair loss. As well, there have been links found between low levels of vitamin D and alopecia areata, and low levels of this vitamin may be a risk factor for developing this autoimmune disease which can effect hair loss. Be sure to discuss any of the above signs and symptoms with your medical practitioner to determine their exact cause and also to discuss the correct amount of vitamin D you should be taking daily to support your health. Vitamin D During Pregnancy Linked to Child Strength

02:02
http://www.healthinsurancegroup.co.uk/ Additional Vitamin D linked to improved child strength? According to results from a recent study, exposure to higher levels of vitamin D during pregnancy is linked to greater muscle strength in children. In today's video, we will take a look at the research. Researchers have indicated that there is a link between the levels of maternal vitamin D during pregnancy and children's grip strength at the age of 4. Experts suggest that there may be long term benefits of this as it is likely that the greater muscle strength seen at age four could continue into the child's adult live. Suggestions are made that Vitamin D deficiency concerns have previously been raised by medical professionals as people become more sun safe. Carol Porter, a spokesperson for the Health Insurance Group recently said on this topic: The research indicates that muscle strength peaks in young adulthood before declining in older age and low grip strength in adulthood has been associated with poor health outcomes including diabetes, falls and fractures. Most vitamin D is made by the skin when exposed to sunlight and supplements are offered during pregnancy. Trials are taking place to see how effective pregnancy supplements are. We welcome any research that throws light on preventative treatment. This work should help in the design of interventions aimed at optimising body composition in childhood and later adulthood and thus improve the health of future generations to come. Weʼd love to hear your thoughts on the matter. Pregnancy study: Higher Vitamin D in moms led to less body fat for children later on

02:29
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - There is new research that's of interest to anyone thinking of having a baby. A study that was just released says a simple nutrient could help protect against childhood obesity. There is yet another reason today to make sure to take those prenatal vitamins, and possibly an additional supplement, if you are pregnant or even planning a pregnancy. This new report in the International Journal of Obesity found women who had low levels of Vitamin D had children who had more body fat by the time they were 5-years-old. Researchers in the study analyzed information from more than $1,700 women who were part of a study called the screening for pregnancy endpoints study or scope. This study is all about identifying early predictors in pregnancy that could lead to complications for baby later in life. The moms who measured lower in Vitamin D levels about four months into pregnancy ended up with children who had higher body weights by age 5. This compared to women who had higher levels of Vitamin D. Researchers say if this nutrient could make a difference in a baby or child’s future weight, given the rates of childhood obesity, this may be very important for moms to know. So here's what you need to know: Now a prenatal vitamin does have usually some Vitamin D, but according to the American Pregnancy Association, women who are pregnant may need a lot more than what's in those supplements. Women who are not pregnant however, also really need this nutrient for everything from better moods to protection against chronic illnesses such as MS. You may need as many as four of these to get what you need each day, if you are not, you may need to ask your doctor for test, and possible supplementation.

Low Vitamin D In Pregnancy Linked to Language Problems

01:53
Low Vitamin D In Pregnancy Linked to Language Problems. Pregnant ladies with low levels of vitamin D in their second trimester may set their tyke up for dialect impedances, as indicated by another investigation in the online release of Pediatrics. Scientists found that ladies with the least levels of vitamin D in their blood when they were 18 weeks pregnant were twice as liable to have a kid with dialect issues as ladies with the most elevated vitamin D levels. The specialists took a gander at vitamin D levels in 743 pregnant ladies in Australia. After the ladies conceived an offspring, analysts estimated their kid's conduct at ages 2, 5, 8, 10, 14 and 17, and their dialect advancement at ages 5 and 10. The examination found that vitamin D levels amid pregnancy weren't connected to behavioral or passionate issues in the kids. In any case, analysts found noteworthy dialect troubles among youngsters whose moms had low vitamin D. The researchers say this doesn't demonstrate that low levels of the vitamin caused the challenges, however it focuses to a "conceivable affiliation" that requirements additionally consider, Reuters reports. Lead scientist Andrew Whitehouse of the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research at the University of Western Australia says that vitamin D levels in pregnant ladies have dropped throughout the most recent 20 years, likely on the grounds that they invest less energy in the sun, HealthDay News reports. 08:14
http://www.Lumalove.com/products.html shows you how getting pregnant can occur faster when you take simple vitamins such as vitamin B. Listen to the inside scoop on vitamins to get pregnant with Midwife Hannah. Don't waste another month without knowing what you can take to speed up your chances of getting pregnant. Click on my website and pick up a FREE getting pregnant eBooks. VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: Vitamins to get pregnant yes you hear me correct there are specific vitamins to get pregnant that's if, you take them in the right doses and the right frequency. Doing so your fertility is naturally increased and sometimes these natural vitamins work better than expensive artificial infertility hormone drugs. My name is Hannah Bajor and I am a midwife of 30 years and I am only hear speaking to you today as I too struggled to get pregnant. I was told at the age of 38 I was infertile and could not have a child. It is because of the devastation of this diagnosis that I spent 12 months in intense research, interviewing dozens of fertility experts and I discovered that supplementation with the right vitamins & minerals in the right quantities acts as a super effective fertility-accelerating "fertilizer" in 4 vital areas by: 1. Specific fertility enhancing vitamins to get pregnant help rejuvenate and oil your reproductive machine so it's in tip-top condition. 2. Taking specific fertility enhancing vitamins help improve the quality of your eggs. 3. Taking specific fertility enhancing vitamins enhances blood flow and automatically thickens the lining of your uterus to make it so much easier for fertilized eggs implant and grow you precious baby. 4. taking specific fertility enhancing vitamins help balance and synchronize your brain hormones, your thyroid hormone, and your ovarian hormones so that your body is in the right state to accept and nourish a growing baby. While trying to cure my own infertility and testing different combinations of fertility vitamins and minerals, I literally stumbled onto the perfect recipe that made it possible for me to get pregnant with not one but TWO amazing boys, even AFTER being diagnosed infertile by the experts. Most people -- including myself when I was trying, fail to understand the role proper nutrition plays in BOTH your reproductive cycles. His included! As I said when you take the right vitamins and minerals in the correct formula you help prepare the internal organs and systems which helps your body to get pregnant fast. This is because good nutrition is the major fertilizer needed to produce a adequate amounts of pregnancy brain hormones, thyroid hormones and ovarian hormones all needed to trigger ovulation, conception, implantation and incubation of your baby. The fact is, that it does not matter how well you eat. Our food supply, including organic food, does not have the full range of minerals that it used to have, back in the good old days. And adequate minerals are needed to have a healthy reproductive system and body to receive and nourish a baby. It is a simple equation: if you are not getting the right vitamins and minerals -- at the right time -- in the right dosage, you simply reduce your capacity to conceive. One group of vitamins that you should be taking when trying to get pregnant is vitamin B. Vitamin B deficiency has been linked to sterility, miscarriage and low birth weight babies. The liver uses vitamin B2 to clear away old used hormones (estrogen and progesterone). If these stale hormones are not excreted, the body actually thinks you have adequate levels of estrogen and progesterone, therefore you produce LESS hormones in your next cycle resulting in a hormonal deficiency. You need to maintain your levels of these hormones to ovulate and incubate a baby. So here is a quick summary of why the B group of vitamins is essential to be taking when trying to get pregnant. Vitamin B1 is needed for ovulation and implantation. Vitamin B2, as I stated, clears away old used hormones . I could go on so to learn more come over to my web site and see for yourself what information I have available about vitamins to get pregnant. In many cases there is no need for expensive fertility drugs and unaffordable treatment. Everything you should be taking is readily available and inexpensive. Hypothyroidism During Pregnancy - 5 Most Important Tips You Should Never Miss Out

02:16
http://www.HypothyroidRevolution.org - Hypothyroidism is a deficiency of thyroid hormone and is one of most common thyroid problems in the Western countries. Estimated 4 percent of the adult American population has an underactive thyroid function which is primarily caused by autoimmune thyroid condition called Hashimotos disease. Women are affected six times more frequently than men. In addition to autoimmune Hashimotos disease, there are numerous other causes of thyroid dysfunction that can result in hypothyroid symptoms despite of the normal lab test results. Unfortunately, the following 7 causes of hypothyroidism cannot be identified using conventional blood tests and most likely will be missed by your conventional doctor: 1 Autoimmune Hashimoto's disease is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in industrialized countries, however most conventional doctors do not check for it. 2 Hypothalamus dysfunction that is difficult to establish and could not be seen on the thyroid tests. 3 Pituitary dysfunction that means the pituitary gland cannot send a message to the thyroid gland to produce more thyroid hormone when it needed. 4 Thyroid gland dysfunction when the gland itself does not work properly and could not produce enough thyroid hormone to meet body's needs. 5 Elevated Thyroid-binding globulin (TBG) due to hormonal imbalances caused by birth control pills, menopause or hormone replacement therapy with estrogen. TGB binds thyroid hormone and prevents it from the entering the cell and/or conversion into the active T3 form. The person will have hypothyroid symptoms despite normal lab test results. 6 Over- or under-conversion of T4 into the metabolically active T3 hormone in the liver and intestine that could cause thyroid symptoms. 7 Thyroid cellular receptor dysfunction due to high cortisol, vitamin A deficiency, over-conversion to T3 and other reasons preventing the thyroid hormone from entering into the cell and perform its metabolic action. 5 Essentials Of Effective Hypothyroidism Treatment Plan 1 The proper thyroid testing and diagnosis are the key to establish your effective hypothyroidism treatment plan. 2 Your diet has a big influence on your thyroid function. There are certain foods that support or suppress the production of thyroid hormones, immune system and sabotage your weight loss efforts. Most hypothyroid patients have food allergies, malabsorption and nutritional deficiencies such as low vitamin D, selenium, B12 and other vitamins of group B, iron and magnesium. 3 If you have thyroid imbalance, you are most likely to have other hormonal problems, blood sugar dysregulation and being under stress that work against your thyroid. Without addressing these issues you risk never stabilize your thyroid function. 4 Your gut and liver function play the key role in conversions of inactive T4 into the active T3 thyroid hormone. If you have digestive issues and/or sluggish liver your body cannot convert thyroid hormones effectively and you can continue to have hypothyroid symptoms does not matter how much thyroid medication you take. 5 Consider environmental toxins as a contributing factor to your thyroid dysfunction. We all are exposed to chemicals and toxins, however those who have effective detoxification process enjoy a better health. Minimizing exposure and supporting detoxification pathways can help to support your thyroid gland. Fertility Top Tips! How to get Pregnant | Natural Conception | London

02:47
Natural pregnancy For a woman to conceive, intercourse must take place around the time when an egg is released from the ovary. The systems that produce eggs and sperm have to be working at optimum levels. The fallopian tubes must be open and healthy. The egg lives for 24 hours after being released and the sperm can stay alive and active in the body for 48 hours after ejaculation, so you don’t have to have intercourse at the exact moment of ovulation to get pregnant. A normal semen sample contains 20 million sperm per ml. It just takes one sperm to fertilise the egg for a woman to become pregnant. Although millions of sperm are released upon ejaculation, only a few survive the journey through the cervix, uterus and fallopian tubes. If fertilisation does not take place, or if the fertilised egg does not attach itself to the endometrium lining of the uterus, it breaks down, the endometrium is shed and you have a period. To learn more visit ivfmatters.co.uk Fit for Pregnancy - Checklist Supplements All women trying for a baby should take 400 mcg of folic acid a day to help prevent neurological problems in the baby. 20% of women in the UK in the reproductive age group are deficient in Vitamin D. A low Vitamin D level is linked to infertility. Hence, you should also take 10 mcg of Vitamin D daily. Men too should have supplements containing Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Zinc and Selenium to improve sperm quality. Vaccination Rubella infection in pregnancy can have serious consequences Eat healthy A balanced diet will help ensure your body is healthy enough to become pregnant and nourish a developing baby. A healthy diet can also help to keep sperm production at optimum levels. Optimise your weight Being under (BMI less than 19) or overweight (BMI over 30) can make you less likely to become pregnant, so making changes to your diet and exercising regularly can to improve your chances. Caffeine Several studies have shown that caffeine increases the length of time it takes to conceive. While the exact mechanism by which caffeine affects fertility is unknown, the answer may be related to the ability of caffeine to influence the quality of the developing oocyte (egg). Multiple studies have suggested that caffeine consumption increases the risk of miscarriage. An additional concern in pregnancy is the ability of caffeine to cross the placenta and directly affect the developing baby. With most studies indicating that the effects of caffeine are related to amount of caffeine consumed, it would seem prudent for women contemplating pregnancy to limit caffeine consumption. The suggested threshold is less than 100mg per day of caffeine. For eg Latte or Cappuccino (16oz) ~ 150mg caffeine. Espresso (1oz) ~ 75mg caffeine Tea (8oz) ~ 50mg caffeine Cola (12oz) ~ 30mg caffeine Energy Drink (8oz) ~ 75mg caffeine Decaf Coffee (8oz) ~ 2mg caffeine Exercise regularly Regular, moderate exercise of around 30 minutes a day helps to maximise your fitness and keep your weight in check. It also boosts levels of endorphins, the body’s own ‘happy hormones’, which may help to reduce stress. Some people find relaxation techniques or complementary therapies, such as acupuncture, also helps them relax. Reduce alcohol intake Women who are trying to become pregnant should drink no more than two or three units of alcohol per week. Men should have no more than four to five units of alcohol per week. Drinking too much can have a negative impact on semen quality and can harm a developing foetus. Stop smoking Smoking has been linked to infertility and early menopause in women, and to sperm problems in men. It is also a factor in premature or low birth-weight babies. Keep cool The testes should be a couple of degrees cooler than the rest of your body for maximum sperm production. Wearing loose-fitting underwear and trousers, and avoiding activities such as saunas and hot showers may help. Medications Some prescription drugs can reduce your chances of conceiving, so if you are taking regular medication, ask your doctor about suitable alternatives. Drugs All recreational drugs should be completely avoided.

Higher Vitamin D Can Improve Premature Babies' Health

00:37
new research suggests that Higher doses of vitamin D can improve the bone health of premature babies. Premature and preterm infants are already routinely given vitamin D to help prevent weak bones and other conditions. But with varying Dosages, many infants still develop bone-related health problems. researching if there is an optimal dose for protecting bone health, scientists at the University of Nebraska Medical Center looked at changes in vitamin D in the blood of 32 premature babies over the course of four weeks. The babies were given either 400 or 800 IUs a day of vitamin D. After four weeks, both their bone density and growth improved. https://www.upi.com/Health_News/2017/10/18/Higher-doses-of-vitamin-D-may-boost-preemies-bone-health/1491508375400/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Pregnancy And Nursing - Is Breastmilk Deficient in Vitamin D?

01:51
What supplement should you take during pregnancy? The good ones have Probiotics, those are the friendly bacteria, aids in absorption and potency. 4,000 units of vitamin D3, and we recommend even more vitamin d3. For pregnant women, we recommend a minimum of 10,000 units of vitamin d3 as this has become very important not only for pregnancy but for nursing as well. The American Academy of Pediatrics has made the statement that "Breast Milk Contains No Vitamin D" and they are almost right because most women and most pregnant women just don't get enough Vitamin D. Either through direct sunlight exposure or by taking supplementation. The studies have shown that if pregnant women and nursing mothers get enough Vitamin D, There Breast Milk is LOADED with vitamin D.This is why it is immparative to get that minimum of 10,000 units of Vitamin D3 a day. How do you know if you have enough? Measure, get your vitamin D level checked, 60 ng per ml that's the magic number. EisensteinCenter.com

Watch on LabRoots at http://www.labroots.com/webcast/vitamin-d-supplementation-in-pregnant-women-effects-on-preeclampsia-and-asthma-in-the-offspring Vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency are prevalent worldwide, and pregnant women and infants are at highest risk for having deficiency and related consequences. Epidemiologic studies have shown an association between vitamin D deficiency and pregnancy outcomes such as preeclampsia, and vitamin D deficiency has been associated with asthma development. We have hypothesized that vitamin D deficiency has contributed to the asthma and allergy epidemic in Western countries. We have conducted the first clinical trial of vitamin D supplementation in early pregnancy – VDAART, Vitamin D Antenatal Asthma Reduction Trial. We will discuss first the effect of vitamin D supplementation on asthma and recurrent wheeze outcomes in the 3-year old offspring. We will then discuss our findings of the effect of vitamin D on the occurrence of pre-eclampsia, including results of the gene expression analysis in a subset of the participants. These results will highlight the importance of adequate vitamin D status in pregnancy and in the prenatal programming of childhood outcomes.

Vit D Pregnancy

01:21
http://homefirst.com/cms/index.php/health-info/vit-d More than 60 years ago, based on the science of the time (science that has stagnated for 60 years), Dr. E. Orbermer of Italy wrote the following: "Until further experimental evidence, adequate and incontrovertible, is made available, I submit that we should play for safety. In a climate like that of England every pregnant woman should be given a supplement of vitamin D in doses of not less than 10,000 IU per day in the first 7 months, and 20,000 IU (per day) during the 8th and 9th months." OBERMER E. Vitamin-D requirements in pregnancy. Br Med J. 1947 Dec 6;2(4535):927. The "adequate and incontrovertible evidence" that Dr. Orbermer wanted, to a certain extent, is finally here, 60 years later. As it has to do with developing human beings, it could not be more important. The study is the highest standard of proof, a randomized controlled trial, conducted by Professor Bruce Hollis and colleagues at the Medical University of South Carolina. They took 350 pregnant women, gave 1/3 of them 600 IU/day, 1/3 of them 2,000 IU/day, and 1/3 4,000 IU/day. Then they waited to see, among many things, which group would produce infants with at least 20 ng/ml of vitamin D in their blood, the lowest limit the 2010 Food and Nutrition Board (FNB) says is needed for good fetal health. Hollis BW, Johnson D, Hulsey TC, Ebeling M, Wagner CL. Vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy: double-blind, randomized clinical trial of safety and effectiveness. J Bone Miner Res. 2011 Oct;26(10):2341-57. doi: 10.1002/jbmr.463 Surprise surprise, only the 4,000 IU/day pregnant women group even approached the minimal safety level of 20 ng/ml in their infants. Furthermore, the 2010 FNB recommendations of vitamin D in prenatal vitamins would have left 50% of the White women and 80% of the Black women with fetuses below 20 ng/ml.
Vitamin D in Moms-to-Be: The Effect on Kids' Asthma

01:01
www.rxwiki.com Could the vitamin D in mom's diet during pregnancy affect her children's future health? Regarding asthma, that question might have been answered. New studies from Denmark and the US looked at whether supplementing mothers' diets with vitamin D affected the rate at which children developed asthma and persistent wheezing. Neither study showed a significant impact, although the Denmark study did suggest that vitamin D decreased episodes of troublesome lung symptoms. Asthma is among the most common chronic medical problems in children. Vitamin D deficiency is also common in western society, possibly due to lack of exposure to sunshine and low vitamin D in the diet. Vitamin D has immune system effects. Researchers have speculated that vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy may be linked to asthma in children.

Prenatals and Supplementation for Momma and Baby

14:52
Pregnancy Health for Women and Babies- Should You Take A Prenatal Supplement? In this video I am talking about the benefits of taking a prenatal supplement and important vitamins and minerals for women and their babies. I went to the doctor last week to test my vitamin d levels, and I am at 38.3! This is there first test I have done in a year and a half. I am going to continue supplementing with about 20,000 iu/week My menstrual cycle has still been irregular although I have been able to menstruate since I started increasing my vitamin d levels. Acupuncture 100% helps my body to get my period because when I go to acupuncture for that reason, I get my period like a week after. But back to my period irregularity – I am at risk for unexpected pregnancy because of not knowing when I am ovulating. My gyn recommended that I take a prenatal vitamin because when we conceive and later find out that we are pregnant, the fetus is already developing the neural tube so we want to have the nutrients available before that point. Is intake of calcium supplements safe during pregnancy? - Dr. Sangeeta Gomes

01:39
Calcium is necessary for development of baby’s bones and teeth. Calcium also for healthy heart, muscles, normal heart activity and blood clotting ability. Intake of Calcium reduces the risk of hypertension, pre ecclampsia, low birth weight babies. If you do not take enough calcium, the baby will draw enough calcium from the bones causing you osteomalacia and osteoporosis. Therefor 1 gram of calcium per day is necessary. Calcium is available as calcium carbonate, calcium citrate, calcium oratate ,along with added Vitamin D3. When you are buying calcium, it is to be done under a doctor’s supervision. Note the company from which you are buying calcium, what is its composition what components are there in it. Do not take calcium, if they contain bone meat, dolomite, oyster calcium as it can be contaminated with lead. Another point to be noted, intake of too much calcium can also cause renal stones, constipation, acidity and also can hinder the iron absorption and the zinc absorption. Therefore calcium has to be taken in pregnancy under doctor’s supervision.
