Review for Allen Carr's "Easy way to quit smoking" Im smoke free for over a month now. This is a review for those looking to quit smoking. I'm 30 years of age, I always wanted to quit smoking. I have made 19 attempts previously. Sometimes quitting for a week, sometimes even for 94 days. All these times I was quitting using my will power, all these times I was quitting thinking I am depriving myself of something. I would initially not want to go out because I was scared that if I drink, I will ask for a fag (slang). It has made my hygiene, hair, teeth, life better. I haven't gained weight. I'm ok. I still drink beer. I sleep better because there is no wheezing anymore. I workout better. My skin feels slightly better. Hair are thicker. The last thing I cared about was the money expenditure but it feels good to know I am saving at least a buck a day.

Stay away from your 5 min-break-smoke buddies for a couple of days (favorably atleast 10). Even just smoking passively gets in the way of your newly found ambition to improve your health. If honesty is an option, tell them you quit smoking, even if it was just that day & they ask "Since when?" I understand that some of you might not be ready for that confrontation, especially when you may doubt your own success. Just say "I can't, sorry, but I'm incredibly busy this week." & keep staying away from the smoke you breathe in passively (huge cue / trigger!). Remember how we covered that one should speak through their actions and not talk about achievements one hasn't reached yet? It's disarming people, people who might act as if they care for you, when they do not. You prevent them from sabotaging you. Think about it. They smoke, even though they know it's bad for them & now you want to stop doing it yourself. Why would you expect support from them (unless they're genuinely good people)? The best way, of course, still is to just tell the world that you quit smoking and that that's that. When you actually mean it, that mindset alone might be enough for you to quit a bad habit for good. Get hooked on a good habit like moving your body, in whatever way, shape or form. Drink lots of water daily. The benefits are endless and even if this may sound like commonsense to you, there's lots of people who only drink sugary beverages, who don't exercise and only consume destructive shit. Before anyone says "it's not easy" again. It fucking is if you believe it is. Don't underestimate the power of the mind. It's not only doable, it's a walk in the park with the right attitude. Thinking "it's not easy" is already a sign for failure. Ever notice how many freshly baked fathers & mothers *quit* smoking in a heartbeat after years of trying? They thought about their children. They thought "I'm doing this for my sweetheart(s)!" "I'm going to be a role model to these kids!" We love the people close to us more than we love ourselves. My Favorite Brain Hack/Psychological Trick To Stop Your Cravings When You Are Quitting Smoking
The Bring It On Technique from the book: The Smoking Cure, How To Quit Without Feeling Like Sh*t http://amzn.to/2cGruZB http://www.thesmokingcure.com/ http://carolinecranshaw.com/ I believe the most important skill you need to quit smoking permanently, is to learn how to manage your cravings to smoke. When we give in, to our unhealthy desires, we stay on the addiction merry-go-round. Just because you have an urge to do something, it doesn’t mean you should act on it. 1. Wait until you are craving a cigarette. 2. Take a deep breath and ask that desire to grow as quickly as possible. Continue to breathe deeply as you focus on the craving growing stronger and multiplying throughout your body. You may experience anxiety or intense feelings but deal with it by asking the desire to increase. 3. Now imagine smoking 3 cigarettes at once, and as soon as you finish those, imagine doing it again. Taste the acetone, ammonia, arsenic, butane, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, insecticide, lead and tar you're pulling into your lungs. Really feel the 4,000 chemicals, which at least 69 of those chemicals are known to cause cancer - burning your tongue, your throat, and your lungs. 4. Imagine indulging your craving until you're sick… The horrible taste in your mouth, the smoke singeing your throat and your lungs. Feel your throat and lungs constricting, your chest hurting as your muscles spasm in protest of the poison you're sucking into your lungs. Your body racked with a coughing fit. 5. Tell yourself you can smoke, but you're going to go hard. Feel the dizziness, your head spinning, and wave of nausea washing over you. Remember how you felt when you first smoked, how you felt lightheaded, your body breaking out in a cold sweat just like before you get sick. Feel how disappointed you would feel if you had a cigarette, how disappointed the people that care about you would be. Within a few minutes, your desire to smoke will vanish or be greatly reduced, and instead, you'll feel calm and accepting of your desire to smoke and know you will be able to handle the feelings that come up when you are craving a cigarette. 6. Repeat every time you have the urge to smoke. Your craving will vanish faster each time, usually in seconds, and be replaced with a genuine feeling of exceptional well-being and energy. This technique works well with anxiety and panic attacks, and any type of craving that you are trying to resist. Part of what causes cravings is that your subconscious believes it needs nicotine to survive since it’s in your system all of the time - like water or oxygen. By asking the desire to increase, you are telling your body and mind that you are okay. Through accepting and not resisting the cravings, you shift them very quickly. There really is something to the 12 step program’s motto of “one day at a time”. Stay in the present. You don’t need to commit to not ever smoking again for the rest of your life, you’re just not going to have one right now. "You can have just one…" your brain may tell you, but it's most likely that you won't stop at one. And then what? You end up smoking for the rest of your life. Do you really want to risk it? Each time you deny the desire to smoke it will be an effort but, in time, the cravings will fade. You won't always be struggling with it. A good acronym to remember is N.O.P.E (Not one puff, ever!) After a while, it may recur only for 30 seconds once every couple of months, but even if the urge strikes for only a few seconds, that's enough time to light up, so it's smart to be mentally prepared. At that moment, you don't want to forget how much you like not smoking.

I’m Kevin O’Hara for alcoholmastery.com Today, the question is: How did you quit smoking and drinking completely? With both of them, I just stopped. There’s a lot of caveats to this. When I stopped drinking, it was after just a spell with my son, he’d moved over to Spain and my son was coming over to visit in Ireland. He was in his early twenties at the time. We were just going out drinking, when he was over – not all the time – but it was celebration mode that we were in and of course as a drinker, celebration mode is, always involves alcohol. So, this is what we were doing. We were going out drinking. Towards the end of his third vacation over here, it was around Christmas time, I decided that this wasn’t the way I wanted to spend my time with him, so how was I going to get out of this. I had already been thinking about moderation, so it was just really, I knew that moderation was no good for me. I knew that I had to stop, I knew that I had to be a better role model for him. Now, I had quite five years previous to that, so about ten years ago. I quit because I got stopped, I got a DUI and I wanted to prove to myself that I could do a year, so it was never an attempt to actually quit permanently; it was just an attempt to get off the alcohol for a small amount of time. For that year and that was it, go back and get control of myself again, you know. Bullshit. I lasted ten months and went back on, just at the beginning of November. So, I stopped in January, went back in the beginning of November because it was my brother’s wedding and I was the Best Man, and I started drinking at half past seven in the morning, when we got the flight from Shannon Airport in Ireland to Birmingham in England and had three pints before I got onto the plane and then it didn’t stop then. https://youtu.be/am9Fn7BXCV8
