For further discussion visit http://www.HemOnc101.com Dr. Talebi's practice, Miami Hematology and Oncology Associates is located at 151 NW 11th street, Suite W303. Homestead, Fl 33030. Tel 786-504-3084 Treatment of metastatic stage 4 pancreatic cancer Cancer of the pancreas is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States and is second only to colorectal cancer as a cause of digestive cancer-related death. The majority of these tumors are "adenocarcinomas" arising from the ductal lining of the pancreatic epithelial cells. Surgical resection is the only potentially curative treatment. Unfortunately, because of the late presentation of the disease, only 15 to 20 percent of patients are candidates for pancreatectomy. The prognosis of pancreatic cancer is poor even in those with potentially resectable disease. The five-year survival following pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple procedure) is only about 25 to 30 percent for node-negative and 10 percent for node-positive tumors. Encasement of the arteries and veins in the vicinity of the pancreas generally make the tumor not resectable although each case has to be reviewed by an experienced surgeon. Here, Dr. Tony Talebi discusses the treatment of metastatic stage 4 pancreatic cancer with Dr. Alberto Montero, assistant professor of medicine at the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center including symptoms of, diagnosis, staging, whipple surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer. Nature’s first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf’s a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief, So dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay. - Robert Frost

Pancreatic Cancer | Dr. Tony Talebi discusses "What is pancreatic cancer?" with Dr Montero

07:07
Dr Tony Talebi discusses general concepts of pancreatic cancer with Dr Montero. For further discussion visit http://www.HemOnc101.com Dr. Talebi's practice, Miami Hematology and Oncology Associates is located at 151 NW 11th street, Suite W303. Homestead, Fl 33030. Tel 786-504-3084 Pancreatic cancer Cancer of the pancreas is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States and is second only to colorectal cancer as a cause of digestive cancer-related death. Here, Dr. Tony Talebi discusses general concepts of pancreatic cancer with Dr. Alberto Montero, assistant professor of medicine at the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center including symptoms of, diagnosis, staging, surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer ride highlights “silent disease”

02:09
Detecting cancer early gives you the best chance to fight it. But advocates for those battling pancreatic cancer say that doesn't happen often enough. Some refer to it as the "silent disease," because it can go undetected until it's too late. This weekend 2,000 cancer survivors and supporters rode bicycles, ran and walked at Elm Creek Park Reserve for PurpleRideStride 2015 to raise awareness. "It is the only major cancer that is in a single digit survival rate," said Kelly Zammas, whose husband died of the disease two years ago at age 45 and volunteers with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S., but it's predicted to become the second by 2020. Bruce Redgate was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer three years ago. He says an event that brings hundreds of survivors together serves as a large support group. "To come to a place like this and talk to long-term survivors and people that are just going through the cancer at the beginnings of their treatments, it's nice to be able to encourage those and be encouraged by others," Redgate said. The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network raised about $385,000 this weekend. Supporters hope events like this will help double the pancreatic cancer survival rate in the next five years.
