"I was diagnosed with Lymphoma last August, which is a blood cancer that affects the cells of our lymphatic system. At the age of 25, to receive such life-changing news is really scary. I felt like my whole world was silenced. I was ambitious and really excited for everything that was planned out for me and because of that, I thought cancer was going to take away everything from me. But, cancer has taught me how to be grateful for each day that I get and for everyone that I have in my life. When we’re young, we think we’re invincible. But when something like this happens, we see how life is so unpredictable. So it’s important to realise how precious each day is and to never take it for granted." Have a story to share? SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Education (MOE) says it provides schools with a set of guidelines in the management of school discipline. These include the objectives of discipline and communication of school rules. But within this set of guidelines, schools may formulate their own rules based on their school's context and needs. The MOE was responding to queries from Channel NewsAsia about five girls from St Margaret's Secondary School who had their heads shaven in support of the Hair for Hope charity event last Saturday. Three of them had turned up in school bald, even though they had promised their principal to wear wigs, while the other two kept their promise. Cherry Wong and Leia Lai, both 15 years old, were among those who took part in last Saturday's event and turned up at school on Monday without wearing wigs. Rules at St Margaret's Secondary do not allow "punk, unfeminine or sloppy hairstyles". Leia's mother, Mdm Emily Chia, said the girls were suspended from almost two lessons and made to sit in the general office. Two other girls from the same school who took part in the event, said they were willing to wear wigs since it was what they had promised their principal. Pee Chloe said: "Why should we go back on our words when we already promised her that? Even if (you would get rashes if you wear wigs)...at least you must (show) an MC (medical certificate) before saying, we don't want to wear our wigs and stuff." Sumiko Choo said: "The thing is, the principal already stated that if you are willing to do it (shave the head), you have to wear a wig. She stated it very clearly. "But if you are not willing to wear a wig, you can do it after you graduate." Hair for Hope is an annual event organised by the Children's Cancer Foundation (CCF), which raises funds to help children and their families affected by childhood cancer. According to CCF, 16 schools had participated as satellite partners -- 12 of which had female students shaving their heads for the cause. However, St Margaret's Secondary was not one of the participating schools. Weighing in on the issue, parents and other students had mixed reactions. One parent said: "Personally I find it a bit silly. If you are already pushing for that project, to ask a kid to show support by shaving her head, then why do you want them to wear a wig? Is it something shameful? I don't think so." St Margaret's Secondary School student Masturah Bagum said: "...they not abiding by the rules and not wearing a wig...I don't think it is right to push the blame to the school and the principal." Meanwhile, CCF said that it is heartened by the bravery and compassion of the five girls who had their heads shaved in the event. It said a key message of Hair for Hope is to let children who lost their hair following cancer treatment know that it is alright to be bald. CCF added that every shaven head in Hair for Hope represents the understanding by an individual of the ordeal that a child with cancer goes through. It also said the schools that took part in its satellite events did not raise any concerns about their students being bald during school time. Leia's mother, Mdm Chia said she is surprised this topic has gone viral online. "I'm glad that it created the awareness that we wanted to create, although our intention was never to shame the school or to shame the principal. "I think I just wanted the girls to have the recognition they should have gotten instead of being reprimanded." www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/girls-who-shaved-heads/763998.html

top 10 top 10 famous child actors you didn't know are no longer living Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg For copyright matters please contact us at: email@example.com Other Videos You Might Like 10 More Actors Who Actually "Did It" On Screen https://youtu.be/8CIkWE4-bv0 10 Shocking Cases Of Horrible Nannies From Hell https://youtu.be/U-VoNmalJW4 Description: Growing up, we all had our favorite television shows and movies that we would sit down and watch repeatedly. We get fixated on child stars and then start to follow them in their other shows and projects. But eventually, we grow up and we move on to more mainstream actors who have had careers that have withstood the test of time. Usually, young celebs eventually fade to the wind or end up playing bit parts in larger projects. In reality, we simply lose track of them and eventually we forget about them completely. It isn’t until we’re prompted to look them up after reminiscing with others, or we see one of their movies on late night television. But these young celebrities continued to live their lives until they were unexpectedly cut short. Their stories remain relevant to their friends and family, but doting fans may not have any idea something happened until it is far too late. While it’s sad, it has become the trend of the entertainment business, and unless you are the hottest actor on the scene, you won’t get a lot of media coverage. In this video are some young celebs that you didn’t know passed away. Granted, even with the widespread reach of social media, a young celeb’s death doesn’t make headlines anymore unless they were famous at the time their life ended. So when we find out that our favorite teen star died over a decade ago, there is a sense of feeling left out as well as a sense of shame that we weren’t more of a faithful fan. Young celebrities either move on to prosperous careers, or fade into the wind and are eventually forgotten. Unless we still keep track of them often, most of us will never find out about their deaths until long after. Here are some young celebs you didn’t know passed away. Breakthrough in neuroblastoma and breast cancer research identifies new treatment targets A team of researchers have discovered a completely new pathway in which a cell protein causes two common forms of cancer, neuroblastoma and breast cancer. In neuroblastoma, the most common tumour of infants, and breast cancer, levels of the Myc proteins are commonly elevated in tumour cells. High levels of the protein are also associated with poor treatment outcomes. However, the way in which these proteins cause cancer has remained unknown. For the first time, researchers at Children's Cancer Institute Australia for Medical Research (CCIA), and collaborators in Italy, describe how the Myc proteins lead to tumour formation. "Our results show that Myc proteins cause cancer by switching off genes involved in cancer prevention, such as transglutaminase 2 (TG2)," says Professor Glenn Marshall, Head of CCIA's Molecular Carcinogenesis Program and Director of the Centre for Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders at Sydney Children's Hospital. "In addition to this, we have also shown that when the neuroblastoma and breast cancer cells are treated with a new class of anti-cancer drugs called histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACIs), they are able to turn the TG2 gene back on, which then inhibits tumour growth." The results which will be published this week in the prestigious Proceedings of the National Academy of Science USA journal, describe in detail the complex interaction between the Myc protein, TG2 gene and HDACI drug within tumour cells. "This work highlights the importance of HDACIs for the treatment of cancers caused by the high levels of Myc proteins," says Professor Marshall. "More importantly, we identify TG2 as a potential drug development target for the treatment of these cancers. "We believe that TG2 mimetics, combined with HDACIs in cancer therapy, will have potent anticancer effects in cells driven by Myc proteins." -ends- This work was supported by funding from the National Health and Medical Research Council, Cancer Council New South Wales, Cancer Institute New South Wales, United States National Cancer Institute, University of New South Wales, Italian Association for Research on Cancer, Italian Ministry of University and Research, University of Bologna, and Regional Program for Industrial Research-ITT Emilia Romagna Region, Italy. Children's Cancer Institute Australia for Medical Research is affiliated with the University of NSW and Sydney Children's Hospital. Note to editors The following manuscript will be published in the November issue of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA: Liu T, Tee AEL, Porro A, Smith SA, Dwarte T, Liu PY, Iraci N, Sekyere E, Haber M, Norris MD, Diolaiti D, Della Valle G, Perini G and Marshall GM (2007) "Activation of tissue transglutaminase trascription by histone deacetylase inhibition as a therapeutic approach for Myc oncogenesis". About CCIA Children's Cancer Institute Australia for Medical Research (CCIA) is the only independent medical research institute in Australia devoted to research into the causes, better treatment, prevention and cure of childhood cancer. The vision of the Institute is to save the lives of all children with cancer and to eliminate their suffering, and its mission involves achieving this through world-class research. Imagine your child having to die before you. This situation, unfortunately, faces a few dozen families in Singapore a year, as their children suffer from life-limiting illnesses. Experts in the field of paediatric palliative care said they want more to be done for the service, through funding, facilities and training. They said a lack of awareness has also held some parents back from opting for the service.

Almost everyone knows about the ALS ice bucket challenge but now there is a new challenge called the Whipping Childhood Cancer Challenge! It was started by a mom in Orlando with a daughter who has pediatric cancer (See Whipping Childhood Cancer article above). It was launched nationally September 1st, as September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Dozens of national and local pediatric groups have joined the Challenge at www.WhippingChildhoodCancer.com. It’s picking up steam and thousands have already accepted the challenge. Joining the challenge will be parents and siblings who have lost family members to neuroblastoma cancer including NCCS founder James Sexton. On September 24th, 1993 his son, Michael James Sexton, lost his battle with neuroblastoma cancer. The Neuroblastoma Children’s Cancer Society (NCCS) was created in loving memory of Michael. Neuroblastoma, a pediatric cancer, claims hundreds of children each year. Our group is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit of all volunteers dedicated to raising funds for research and support of the families devastated by this disease. Surprisingly the major funders of cancer research have made neuroblastoma a shockingly low priority! Hundreds of neuroblastoma families devastated by the disease contact us each year. Unfortunately, the majority of children are at advanced stages and do not survive. In memory of Michael and in support of all children fighting this disease, we have vowed to work even harder to help find a cure. Since our inception in 1994, we have awarded over $1,600,000 in neuroblastoma research grants! Most importantly, we have given all children affected a fighting chance! Statistically, approx. 11,000 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with pediatric cancer. Neuroblastoma still remains one of the worst. Approx. 1,000 children are diagnosed with this particular cancer annually and the majority don’t survive. Since the inception of NCCS 18 years ago, neuroblastoma patients have had improved long-term survival rates. The difference now is that the doctors are able to genetically profile patients and give regiments of chemotherapy and radiation that best fit each individual. Also, the treatment is less toxic. Chemotherapy treatment is more effective as it attacks more of the cancer cells versus healthy tissues, prolonging the life of NB patients for up to 5 years and saving more children’s lives. 100% of the money raised will be included with a grant that NCCS will award to Dr. Cohn for $50,000 at the Friends of Michael Williams Golf Outing on September 20th, 2014. This grant will support an international database collaborated by scientists & geneticists, including over 11,000 neuroblastoma patients across the world. Through this database all genetics, treatment, clinical trials, etc. are shared and evaluated to identify and develop break through treatments as well as individualize the best treatment for a neuroblastoma patient! Visit our website www.neuroblastomacancer.org to register for the event, make donations, or for more information on NCCS. Check out our Wall of Fame heroes to learn more about our special children. For more information on the event, please contact Jim Sexton at (847) 452-8980 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.

It was a bizarre sight as North Korean strongman Kim Jong Un was cheered by hotel guests in Singapore Sunday as he arrived for a landmark summit with President Trump. The North Korean leader went on an unannounced late night sightseeing stroll of the city, even stopping for a selfie. It's hard to spot him because he's surrounded by a dozen strapping young men, his force of devout bodyguards who form a human shield around him.
