Tiffany made her first video detailing some of the choices we made while creating our tiny floor plan. After researching tons of well-designed skoolie conversions, we used a combination of sketching, a 3D paper model and a free program called Google Sketchup to design a basic layout starting point for our skoolie. Things may change a little as we build but this is, for the most part, our finalized design. Let us know what you think! Removing RV old Carpet & Replacing with Allure planks Vinyl - Floor Replacement The original carpeted floor I had looked real nice and confortable but not practical, especially for cleaning. After many years of use I decided to rip it out and replace it with something more durable. I removed the carpet from the living area up to the driver and passenger seats. The galley area up to the ceramic tile I also removed one row of the ceramics I started the installation of the allure planks from the rear of the passenger seat, around the stairwell and all the way to the back into the dining area. The stairwell edges came out real nice with the aluminum angle line. I used the same product to make the transition between the carpet and the allure behind the driver and passenger seats. The strip of carpet left in front of the sofa is part of the slide so I left it so that it covers the 1 inch step. The stairwell was also left with the original carpet on the sides since it was in good condition and this area is not very well insulated like the floor inside. Under the step there's a battery for the engine start. The transition between the allure and the ceramic tiles in the kitchen area is the same aluminum trim used on the front cockpit area. And the wood trim below the counter and walls dressed up the edge of the allure. Walking toward the bath area the floor is all ceramic including the private bath before the bedroom. Across from the private bathroom is the sink and shower, there's a sliding door that gives plenty of privacy between the kitchen and the bath. There's a transition between the bath area and the bedroom which also has 2 sliding doors that gives the privacy between the bath and the bedroom. Where the allure is now in the bedroom it was all carpeted before. The allure is all around the bed slide out. This is way easier to clean now. I use an allure polish every time we come back from a trip and no more cleaning carpet all day. I would advice the manufacturers to build them this way. The Planks are vinyl all the way through. 36" x 4". The surface looks like real wood and feels like real wood. It can get wet and not worry. Lay down each plank into each other and the adhesive bonds them together. Staggering them a foot or so apart really makes them look good. My Motorhome is a 2003 National Dolphin LX model 6320. A friend's camper has been leaking for some time apparently and has rotted out the floor, ledger and joists. The local camper sales/service place wanted $2000 and one month to do the repair I just did for $240 in materials and 30 hours labor.

Aaron converted this vintage baby blue school bus into a debt free tiny home for less than $4,500, and the interior design is absolutely stunning. You can follow Aaron and his bus adventures on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/aaron.einer/ He traded an older vehicle for the bus, and used mostly reclaimed wood to build DIY storage spaces and a bed frame; and the countertop is made from a goat teeter totter. Most of the decor has been thrifted and specifically chosen to match the era of the bus, which is a 1959 Ford B600 Warden Master. Pretty intense name for a school bus isn't it? Since filming the video, Aaron has insulated the bus conversion for winter, and added a full solar power system for off-grid living. The skoolie's name is Dorf because a previous owner switched the "F" and the "D" in Ford on the front grill, and Aaron's dog is an Australian Cattle rescue pup named Chevy. Aaron built this school bus conversion because he wanted to try something new, exciting, and off the beaten path, and so far he's been having a great time exploring British Columbia and meeting new people in the bus. He says he has to build 30 extra minutes into his schedule every time he takes the bus somewhere to account for all the time he spends chatting with people. We filmed this video at the Go-Van El Campo meet-up in BC, where we had a blast meeting other nomads on wheels. Part 2 of the How to build a DIY Travel Trailer Project. Adding the window framing, additional support structure, wheel wells, flooring, aluminum siding with VHB tape and more! ... oh yes, and I beef up the trailer tongue a bit too! Please let me know if you have any questions :) Joe Big thanks to Industrial Metal Supply for partnering with me and supplying some of the steel for this project! Check them out online or one of their awesome stores! https://www.industrialmetalsupply.com/ Note about the tape: The VHB tape I used for this project was CV62f and CV45F. It is very expensive, upwards of $100 per roll at most places I found. I ended up purchasing it from SRI-Supplies.com for about $50/per roll.. which was the best price I found anywhere. I paid full price and did not get a discount but just wanted to mention it in case anyone is looking for it and haven't found a good affordable source for it :) If you guys like the videos I make and would like to help support the channel at no additional cost to you. FLOOR PLANS: Airstream Renovation Today we share the many floor plans we drew for our Airstream Argosy Renovation. We've been RV Living for 2.5 years, so we have a good idea of what layout will work for our needs. Typical with Tiny House Life, every inch counts...and, being a vintage trailer, it has a fair share of nuances to deal with! We're Kyle & Olivia, a young couple traveling the country full time in our vintage camper. We hit the road in September of 2015, with the goal to live a minimal lifestyle and connect with the world around us. Architectural Salvage is what they call it- be it old crown molding, trim, baseboards, mantles, or flooring, and in some cases it can VERY much so worth the time and energy to pull it out of old homes- to save it. That's EXACTLY what this duo has done- in this case with wide plank pine flooring from the 1700s! Derek "Deek" Diedricksen (author of "Micro Living" and former host of HGTV's "Tiny House Builders") and Reuse expert Alex Eaves delve into this old home to show you one of the ways it can all be done. After two years of living in a camper with his young daughter, architect Jan Körbes wanted something better suited to their active lifestyle, so he decided to realize a longtime dream of turning a grain silo into a microhome. With the help of his team at REFUNC, specialists in creative recycling, they bought an old grain bin from a farmer and set to work making it habitable. Working with a footprint of 4m2 (43 square feet), the group started by adding floors to the space. The final home is 3 stories and includes a climbing wall as sole means of reaching the top floor bedroom. The middle floor includes a kitchen, toilet and shower. The crew built out the final space of 13m2 with a budget of about $27,000 and lots of recycled items (including floor, ceiling and paneling). The home, an experiment in mobile living (it’s already moved once) dubbed "Silo City", fills in REFUNC’s portfolio of recycled microarchitecture which includes a mobile shelters made from shrink-wrap, pallets, a retired ski gondola and shipping containers and wind turbine blades. “This is an example of an object which is industrial which after a certain lifespan is not used any longer,” explains Körbes. “And this is when we come in. So we analyze objects which could become microarchitecture, for example this grain silo it’s actually a perfect size for a mini, mini, mini house.“ *Photo credits: Ishka Michocka, Christian van der Kooij, Jan Korbes Silo House: www.silocity.space REFUNC: http://refunc.nl

We can all benefit from redefining what "enough" looks like, and re-think what we think we "need." I work part time so I can live full time, and so can you. Maybe not to this extreme, but certainly downsize, minimize, and reevaluate some "stuff." It's possible to do all the things you SAY you wish you could do (volunteer more, read books, take yoga, breathe, cook, bake, hike, kayak, and lead a stress-free life in service to others). This is a tour of my RV followed by an explanation of my transition from a conventional lifestyle to being liberated and at peace. This isn't very different from renting a room in a friend's house, except it's significantly less intrusive. If you have more than enough, don't raise your standard of living, raise your standard of giving. Build a longer dining table, not a taller fence. Live simply so that others can simply live. Namaste. When you get little, you want more. When you get more, you desire even more. But when you lose everything, you realize LITTLE was enough. _/|\_ ______ Timber Hawkeye, bestselling author of Buddhist Boot Camp and Faithfully Religionless, prescribes gratitude as medicine for people to heal themselves from the inside out. His message invites the best version of you to resurface, inevitably leading to the true meaning of success (being happy), and better health (mental, physical, emotional and spiritual). In an ongoing effort to eradicate society's ever-growing sense of entitlement, which he considers nothing short of an epidemic, and replace it with a sense of appreciation for each breath we are given, Timber's intention is to awaken, enlighten, enrich and inspire, by sharing mindfulness-enhancing techniques that anyone can relate to and implement in their daily lives.

One concern about tiny houses is that there is a heavy dependence on those sleeping and storage lofts. What if it is hard for you to get up stairs? For whatever reason some people really need a single floor with lots of in-wall storage. Paul Elkins fell for micro-camping in 2002 when he toured the country in his cabover “stealth camper”. Sure he could make something more affordable, this year he began building a nomadic micro-shelter based on the Airstream design. [Downloadable plans: http://www.elkinsdiy.com/plans/ ] Using 4 recycled fluted-plastic campaign signs from a recent election, a $20 secondhand bike, 6 pine boards ($1 at Home Depot), screws, Duct tape and zip ties, he built his latest micro mobile shelter for only $150. Calling it a “micro Airstream bike camper”, it’s a 60-pound “home away from home”, complete with butane stove, bread-pan sink, counter, food storage shelving, clothes-storage bins, LED lighting, bed, windows, pee jug, bubble insulation, stereo with MP3 player, and a skylight made out of a 1 gallon plastic tub. A woodworking wizard named Richard built the Koroc - a beautiful floating tiny house RV on aluminum pontoons. It's unbelievable what a comfortable home he's created in such a small space. Imagine living in this micro cabin, floating on a river or a lake, and enjoying fresh air on an enormous deck? If you can't tell already, we're in love with this boat! If you want to learn more about Richard's beautiful boat, you can check out his website here: http://daigno.ca/en/home.html We randomly drove past this houseboat in Montebello, Quebec, Canada on our way to pick up some RV windows so we emailed the owner and asked him if we could take a tour inside and have him put it in the water for us. Luckily he said yes! We spent a beautiful sunny afternoon on Le Koroc (built by Richard's company Daigno) admiring his handy work. Everything in this house boat is built by hand, from the beams to the cabinets, the deck, water filter, bathroom, kitchen and more. Richard has a solar panel for electricity, a Martin propane heater, a propane cooktop, a DIY carbon filter for filtering grey water, a self-contained toilet, two dinettes (one that converts into a double bed), and tons of windows, not to mention the huge deck. It's off-grid minimalist living paradise! DIY RV Reflooring with a Flush Slide Out - Reflooring our RV! We have a 2005 DRV Mobiles Suites. It has carpet and linoleum in it from the factory. After traveling 2.5 years, we decided it was time to refloor the rv with something that was more aesthetically pleasing than the aging original flooring. Being DIY RV people, we did it ourselves! We decided to go with a vinyl plank flooring that looked like wood that we found at Home Depot. It is the Allure brand, and the color was Khaki Oak, which included some mixing of grays and tans. It has a Grip Strip edge, which means there are some ledges on either side with adhesive on them, so when you place the planks side-by-side the adhesive ledges stick to each other and hold each other in place. We also chose the Vinyl Plank style so that it was going to be flexible for going around the road, not a lot more weight (although it does weigh more overall than the linoleum and carpet we removed), durable (stand up to our dogs’ claws), waterproof, easy to install, and cost effective. In this video, we show and talk about how we remove rv carpet, remove rv linoleum, repair damaged subfloor with Bondo and install the Allure vinyl plank on our floor, which includes reflooring the flush slide out and deal with the flush slide floor transition. We were so pleased with how easy it was to work with the Allure vinyl plank. Having install hard-floor in our previous house and having to cut each piece with a saw, the Allure planks were easily scored with a razor blade and bent/broken off. The Grip Strip design was handy over a click-lock type because unlike click-lock where the flooring has to be at a certain angle to install, the Grip Strip can be slid and pressed down into place. This makes going under a counter or under the edge of a slide very easy. We had to do some pretty intricate cuts up near the vanity and into the toilet room and closet. While time-consuming and precise, we were able to cut the Allure Vinyl Plank to fit all the tight corners and notches. One of the biggest concerns that we had was that we have a flush side, and we weren’t sure how we were going to have the slide floor meet the main floor. Our RV has a black plastic ramp that runs the length of the slide. The slide rides up the ramp and in when it is coming in, then slides out and down to sit pretty level with the main floor. Once we had the carpet out and could examine the situation, we found that there was a strip of plywood that covered a 2 inch gap between the plastic ramp and the slide floor. That plywood was just covered by the carpet and butted up to the foam carpet padding on the slide, so you didn’t really notice it. With the hard floor, we had to figure out a way to bridge this gap and make a smooth transition. We decided to take one of the vinyl planks and put it over the gap. We did some tests with it and we determined that while it did have a little big of flex when you pushed down on that gap, overall it was pretty rigid and would do the trick. It would allow us to have this clean transition from the slide to the main floor. Because this is a floating floor, we glued the first edge piece onto the slide floor so that it wouldn’t go anywhere and made sure it came to the point we wanted it to. We used Hard As Nails glue. The major drawback to this design is that when the slide is pulled in, it leaves a section of the plank hanging out over the edge without any support. We must be very careful when the side is in to not step on the plank because it probably will not hold up. ------------ Thank you for watching our videos! Facing an unaffordable housing market, Scott and Emily bought a retired Denver city bus at auction and rebuilt it as a spacious home for themselves and children. With no building experience, they relied on help from family and online resources. They designed DIY transforming furniture to make the “rooms” serve double duty. Using a kit, Emily and her father built a murphy bed so the largest room in the bus can transform from kids’ play room to master bedroom. Scott and Emily hacked IKEA beds to create “living room” couches that transform into a large guest bed. Since Scott works from home, the back of the bus serves as kids’ bedroom (with one lofted bed) as well as home office. The couple had already downsized their stuff before buying the bus when they spent a year living out of 36 liter backpacks. The bus was an upgrade, though they continue to live with tiny wardrobes and fairly limited belongings. CHANGE OF PLANS: Airstream Argosy Renovation Today we modify our Airstream Argosy renovation plans. Despite our initial fears, we believe a "full monty" will be the best approach. In the Airstream world, a full monty is when the shell is completely lifted from the frame. This will allow us to properly fix the rust and more easily install the sub floor. We're Kyle & Olivia, a young couple traveling the country full time in our vintage camper. We hit the road in September of 2015, with the goal to live a minimal lifestyle and connect with the world around us. Patrick Mets loves “old, industrial buildings” and he’s always been fascinated by water towers. After years of scouting the Belgian countryside he found one for sale (for 30,000 euros or about $43,000 at the time) and began working to convert it into a home. “It was quite naive that we bought it because we didn’t have any permit to convert it into something else,” explains Mets. “And so it took us 12 years, 7 years to get the necessary permit and 5 years of renovation work.” Working with designer Mauro Brigham (NC & Bham), they tried to leave as much of the tower in its original state. Fortunately the 30-meter-high (90 feet) tower was built with windows- an oddity for a water tower-, but forty of them keep the converted home well lit. The water tank itself was kept mainly intact. Brigham and Mets added a floor inside it and cut holes out of the sides for views and it now serves as the kitchen and living room. After a couple years using the space as their full-time home, Mets and his partner Valérie Lecherf moved out to be closer to their daughters’ school. Today they rent the “Chateau d’Eau” for special events. Inspired by the success of the Hawaii treehouse she built for $11,000, Kristie Wolfe began searching for land to build a “Hobbit”-inspired village. Knowing that there is land to be found for cheap in this country (she bought her Hawaii property for $8000), she began to search the Northwest for sites. https://faircompanies.com/videos/building-your-own-hawaii-minimal-house-for-a-vacations-cost/ “There’s a lot of land everywhere, if you look on craigslist, if you look on zillow, you can find property so it’s not really that there’s not a lot. The issue is with property that’s in my price range- I’m looking for property that’s $10,000 to 20,000- usually there’s a reason why it’s cheap, it’s either an easement problem or you have to drive through a crappy neighborhood… but if you’re wanting to be off-grid, it opens up a whole world of selections, there’s a ton out there.” Wolfe paid $18,000 for 5 acres on a hillside above Lake Chelan, Washington. Being a couple miles down a dirt road, there was no option to be on the grid so Wolfe put in a solar panel, septic and a water tank (filled by truck for now) and began to dig the first of her underground homes. At 288 square feet, Wolfe’s “tiny house in the shire” was over the maximum square footage allowed for an un-permitted build so she went to the county for approval. With only hand-sketched plans on graph paper, she was able to get a permit. The structure went up in a few days “with a lot of help from family and friends” and it was “wrapped and roofed” in a few weeks and then Wolfe finished the interior on her own. Inspired by the “Hobbit” books, films and cartoon (from 1977), Wolfe wanted to recreate the cozy feel of a hobbit hole. "Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole and that meant comfort." Rather than buying expensive custom details, Wolfe got creative. She used the top of an old cable spool - scavenged for free long before the build- as a round door. To create round windows, she hid secondhand ($10) square windows behind repurposed circular mirror frames. For a very unique cordwood floor, she cut scraps of wood (found beside the road and old firewood) into into one-inch-thick pieces glued down with a heavy construction adhesive and grouted by hand (again thanks much help to friends and family). Wolfe has broken ground on the 2nd and 3rd hillside homes. She doesn't plan to change much of her design except to make the windows larger. The completed “village” will include an above-ground communal kitchen built to look like a thatched-roof English-style pub. Laying tiles in the RV is more work than I had ever thought. I want to do it right so I am putting down underlayment so the tiles will stick and remain level. Today I put some wood down in the kitchen to prepare for tiles. I spread glue in the RV bathroom for the tiles there at lunch time but by 7 pm the glue was still not ready to put down the tiles. I did not get to the kitchen tiles yet today. I checked on top of the RV for leaks today and sealed some of the marker lights. I also sealed above the windshield where I found that the old fiberglass had cracked. I also sealed above the front awning where the seals had fallen out. I hope there will not be any more leaks now.

This is a quick tour of an RV layout that we really like. This is the Columbus Compass by Palomino 377MBC which we toured at Country Creek RV and Marine Sales in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. It doesn’t have outdoor kitchen which I (Katie) would like. :-) The company does VOID the warranty if used for full-time living, so we won't be buying this unit, sadly. However, thanks to Greg Bounds for his patience and assistance in showing us several models. We highly recommend him at Country Creek RV in Hattiesburg, MS. Thanks for watching!
