Building a workbench with drawers for the shipping container shop! This was a fun project to build a modular style workbench with a LOT of drawers to help me keep the container shop organized and give me good benchtop workspace too! Construction is basic... pocket holes, nails, glue and a bit of plywood... and DIY drawer pulls! I'm very happy with the way it came out, but I might take a break from building drawers for a bit...whew! Please let me know if you have any questions:) Joe Here is the link to the RZ masks I talked about in the video. (they have a 15% off deal going right now with the code RZ15 ) https://rzmask.com/pages/woodworking I also get a lot of questions about the pocket hole jig I use. It is called a KregJig... here is a link http://amzn.to/2xajSdr Porter Cable nailer kit I've used for about 9 years now http://amzn.to/2fKgUVh Music sourced from the youtube audio library. We finish the guts of the ultimate shop table/ultimate workbench build! Drawers were installed as well as a custom parts organizer rack for all of my most used hardware. I'm using Stack-On organizers with removable bins. These are so handy to have around the shop to store hardware and miscellaneous parts. I've incorporated storage for 10 of these organizers into my workbench for easy access. The workbench is now a fully comprehensive workstation capable of any project! The addition of the drawers to the workbench allows me to store my most often used tools used for projects within close reach. I keep layout tools like pencils, speed squares, and tape measure's in the top drawers. In the larger lower drawers I can keep power tools like sanders, sandpaper, brad nail guns, and jig saws. This workbench is all about efficiency during projects and these latest additions really enhance its usability. In this episode we detail planning, including using cut sheets, drawer installation, and basic cabinet construction. Use ideas from this video to upgrade YOUR shop in order to pursue SHOP GREATNESS! There will be another video in this series detailing out some of the final touches as well as the finishing of the table. Today, on The Cutting Bored, I'm upgrading my workshop in a massive way by building a massive 10' x 2' workbench with four massive drawers underneath and a second shelf to sit all of my power tools on. This build is simple and can be done in a single afternoon and has changed the functionality and aesthetics of shop long term. I also used some BEAUTIFUL walnut veneered plywood left over from a project from Purebond to make some false drawer fronts. Purebond is a no-added formaldehyde product sourced and manufactured in North America and is the highest quality plywood material I have ever worked with. A big thanks to Nick Ferry for doing the special effect at the end. ; ) For a written tutorial check out my blog at http://wilkerdos.com/2015/12/building-a-2x4-workbench/ My dad really needed a workbench for his garage and asked if it was something I wanted to build. : ) Of course I said yes. So here I show you how to build a very simple but sturdy eight foot workbench out of only 2x4s and plywood. I added pegboard only at the top because my dad wanted to have a space where he could reach the workbench surface from either side. However, you could very easily add a full sheet of pegboard instead and have it go all the way down to the workbench surface. Don't forget I have a set of plans, where I walk you through step by step, on my website if you want to build one! This is the latest instalment of my workbench build, probably the least exciting part of the build but it needed to be done. If I'd left the underneath of the workbench open I think it would have become a dumping zone and would be in a mess in no time. The workbench storage cabinet will certainly be useful and at the same time has added a fair amount of extra weight - I'm really quite surprised at how much heavier the bench is now and I haven't put anything in the drawers yet. I'm excited for the next component of the build, a leg vice but that may have to wait for a couple of weeks until I get hold of a scaffold screw jack. I also have a couple of different ideas I need to think through for the leg vice too. I hope you enjoy the video and as always I'm happy to answer any questions. I use my box joint jig in this video to make the drawers - it was made from John Heisz's plans. In this video I'm building a solid workbench for woodworking. I made it of construction grade timber, things I got for free and some plywood. I'm using mortise and tenon joinery and drawboring. There are some small things left that I need to complete and I will make an update video when those things are in place. This is a really heavy workbench especially when all the drawers and cabinets are filled with tools and stuff. I basically used a table saw, japanese hand saw and a regular No. 4 handplane. It took a lot of elbow grease but it was a good practice using hand saws. The workbench top is made of an old solid hardwood coffe table I was lucky to get for free. It's not dead flat but pretty close I would say. I installed a small Veritas inset vise at the one end of the table and I am planning to add a vise at the left side as well but for now I just use my portable vise. If you want to build this workbench yourself I have plans available on my site (see the top of this description) You should be able to build it with just hand tools but a table saw will ease up things dramatically. If you like this video please give me a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel. Buying the plans will also help to support my channel so I can make more videos. 68 - Woodworking 101 Lesson 4 Build a Basic Bench Download FREE plans here: https://kingsfinewoodworking.com/collections/project-plans-for-sale/products/basic-workbench-with-drawers-3d-plans Join our woodworkers only Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/KingsFineWoodworkingCommunity In this video, we are going to jump right into the woodworking. This first project is a handy addition to any shop, large or small. This is a very basic workbench with a lot of features. It can be built with or without drawers, and I will walk you through every calculation of just how to make them. I think there are many ways to learn woodworking, and the way that I prefer is a hands on approach. I think the quicker you can jump into a project, the funner it will be, and the faster you will learn. We are all going to make mistakes woodworking. And the best way to find that out, and get better is by starting with a project that has materials that aren’t too expensive. And, a project that will stay with you, is good too. This way you develop skill, so that by the time you are making for others, your quality has improved. This bench has some features of fine woodworking projects as well. Such as the creation and installation of drawers. So all around, I think it’s a good starting point. I had made shelving units for the wood shop that hung on my French cleat system. The shelves do not work well for smaller items as there is no way to organize small pieces and the space of the shelf above the small pieces goes unused. I made simple drawers from 3/8 inch Russian birch plywood. I cut dados in the bottom piece and attached sides and dividers with those dados. I butt jointed a back and front to that. The front is a 1/2 inch wider than the drawer to hide the maple runners that the drawers slide on. This was a prototype and when I do this again, I will try making a frame with the vertical pieces first, then attaching the bottom to that.

69 - Woodworking 101 Lesson 4 Build a Basic Bench Part 2 Final Download FREE plans here: https://kingsfinewoodworking.com/collections/project-plans-for-sale/products/basic-workbench-with-drawers-3d-plans Join our woodworkers only Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/KingsFineWoodworkingCommunity Part II Final: In this video, we are going to jump right into the woodworking. Spend your day making this insanely easy wall-mounted workbench with simple hand tools that you might already own! All you need is a $20 4x8 sheet of particle board for the surface, (3) 8 foot long 2x4s that are less than $3 each, finished off with a few clear plastic containers for drawers AND THAT'S IT! Total cost should be around $35 or less. DISCLAIMER: This is meant for corners. If you would like it mounted to the wall but not in the corner, just make a 3rd leg for the end instead of mounting it to the adjacent wall. Plans can be found here http://paskmakes.com/plans/ A woodworking workbench is something I’ve needed for a long time. I’ve managed without one and I could continue that way but I’ve become tired of creative clamping to do the most simple clamping tasks. Also I need a bench that is solid, the bench I’m using now is on castors so I have to kick a wedge under them if I need the bench to remain still. The reason it has taken until now to build the workbench is I’ve always wanted to build my dream workbench which done properly would take a significant amount of time, which I never seem to find. That’s why I’ve decided to build this one out of plywood, it’s cheap and with the layered method of construction for the base it is very strong and was quick to assemble. There would be far more robust workbenches out there but this one shouldn’t be discounted, if you need a solid workbench that is cheap and easy to build this would be more than adequate for most peoples needs. Saying that, I will build my dream workbench, one day when the time is right. I am also thinking by building this bench I can figure out, over time what I like about it and what I may have done differently for when I do build my dream bench. There is more to come as I'm going to add a cabinet underneath with drawers and also a couple of vices. I haven't decided on the style of vices yet but I am planning on making them. I hope you enjoy the video and as always I'm happy to answer any questions. It's been a year in the making, the final piece to the puzzle for the miter saw station is complete!!! ► Excruciatingly detailed build plans are available here: http://bit.ly/mitersawstation Details! ▼ This miter saw station base is designed to be used as the base to my Modular Miter Saw Station (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLaQhHcfFvj6_iMqGX36haXLTXWRAtSuT8) or as a stand-alone workbench and storage unit. Each unit is 3' wide and can be added or subtracted depending on how much room you want to each side of your saw, or how much storage you need. This could also be easily divided up into smaller units. The drawers are extra deep for tons of storage, supported by 28" full extension drawer slides. The vertical drawers can be adjusted even easier, just by changing the width of the drawer fronts. The set of vertical drawers that live below where my miter saw is located are the focal point of the cabinet. These were made to be a go-to location for my most used electric and pneumatic hand tools. They are easy to grab because they are grouped by category and each of the vertical drawers can be rearranged to fit different or changing stocks of tools. I've been using my Festool MFT3 table as an outfeed/assembly table since I moved in my new workshop. This set up was temporarily though, and I recently decided to think about a more permanent solution. So I ordered a couple MFT3 replacement slabs made of MDF from a local cabinet maker (same size as the Festool one), and I built a mobile outfeed table with storage, using some reclaimed kitchen cabinets and an old countertop. As I had plenty cabinets left, I decided to build a second MFT style table, and use it as my new mobile assembly table/workbench in the back of my shop. I'm very pleased with how these tables came out and I plan to use them for many years to come! Thanks for watching! Build a simple workbench for around $60 in less than an hour! This is a great addition to your garage or workshop and can me made with simple tools. Makes working on car parts and DIY projects much easier! The lengths you'll need are: 1 X Bench top (1200mm X 600mm) 2 X 1200mm (Bench frame) 2 X 540mm (Bench Frame Ends) 4 X 980mm (Legs) Choose your own lengths based on desired height 2 X 600mm (Leg Supports) There are loads of really great workbench designs out there but this is a nice simple design for doing DIY projects. You can adjust any of the sizes and lengths to create a custom bench for your own workspace. You can also simply replace the bench top when it gets worn out and if you're budget allows you can use a nice piece of hardwood. Keep in mind that wood may not be perfectly straight so choose carefully at the shop. Glue also helps to make the whole thing stronger. I'm using this bench as part of a larger bench and mounting it to a wall and supports but if you're using screws only on the legs install them diagonally. We were sent an email from a young MCM fan asking how to make a cheap, simple workbench. We're not carpenters by any stretch of the imagination but we hope this helps you get started on your own workbench! Song is 'Jimmy Rabbit feat. Mammals' by Moog Direct Download: http://www.mightycarmods.com/collections/music iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/au/album/jimmy-rabbit-feat.-mammals/id553018843 Also something to note around Mighty Car Mods: we are normal guys and are not trained mechanics (or carpenters!) We like to make interesting car mods and projects and show you how we've gone about it, but we can't promise that anything we show you will work for your particular project, or that you won't harm yourself, someone else, your car or your warranty doing it. Please be safe, be responsible and unless you know what you're doing, do not fool around with very serious machinery just because you've seen us make it look so easy. Talk to a qualified mechanic or carpenter if you are in any doubt. This video has no affiliation with Ryobi. They are just the tools I own.
