How to Make a Garden Trellis | DIY Trellis

How to make a Trellis with DIY PETE. This wooden Trellis is simple to make and will look great in your garden. In this project, I team up in building the trellises with my mother. We go through the entire process of measuring the wood, making the cuts, assembling the trellis, and finally putting it in the garden. This was a super fun project to tackle. Please give this Trellis Tutorial Video a "Thumbs Up" if you found it helpful and please stop by DIYPETE.com for more inspirational and helpful project tutorials. Here is an affiliate link for the planter in case you are looking for one! http://amzn.to/1Uo8H2d For more info, project photos, and downloadable plans check out: http://www.diypete.com/diy-trellis-how-to-make-a-trellis/ QTY: 8 2x2x8 boards (Actual measurement is 1 1/2 inches x 1 1/2 inches by 8 feet) Cost: Cedar/Redwood: Approximately $6 per board or $48 in wood (in my town) Cheaper Option: Pine: Approximately $2.00/board or $16 in wood (in my town) You will want to stain or paint pine if used Gather Supplies Use the lumber list above. My mom and I used cedar wood for this project. Measure and Mark We cut the four vertical boards to 72″ long. We cut the seven horizontal boards to 48″ wide. Cut the boards Use a miter saw, circular saw, or hand saw to make your cuts. Sand Sand the ends of each board to remove rough edges. This should be a very quick process. Don’t worry about sanding the entire board. Assemble Frame Connect two 72 inch vertical boards with two 48 inch long horizontal boards.Use two screws at each corner. Make sure to pre-drill to prevent the wood from splitting. I’d recommend 2 1/2 inch exterior grade screws. Attach the vertical boards to the horizontal boards from the backside to hide the screws. Space the inner vertical and horizontal boards to your liking. Below is a diagram of the front side of the DIY trellis. The most center board is used to hang a planter from. I added a couple 4 inch spacers to help the planter rest evenly on the front. Use 2 screws to hang the planters. You can find similar 36 inch horse trough planters on amazon. If you’d like to attach the planters to the siding, first level the trellis and figure out where the studs in the wall are so you can securely attach it. ---- Looking for more DIY videos? Build a DIY Trellis in a Weekend

07:55
This video shows how to build a DIY Trellis in a weekend (possibly in a day if you're not staining it). I needed this new trellis to support a big clematis vine in a small garden next to my garage. It blooms in early summer with the most beautiful purple flowers and we love it. For this, and any outdoor structure, it's always recommended to use pressure treated lumber so it will last a lifetime. For more information, go to http://handydad.tv/trellis

10 Inspiring Diy Garden Trellis Plans Designs Ideas

02:31
Garden trellis is a great way to save your garden space that supports climbing vegetables, flowers and fruits plants to grow vertically and increase your yield per square feet.Apart from this it also help in protecting plants from pests. Building trellis is not so difficult;you can make your own diy trellis by using copper, bamboo, wooden poles and sticks, lumber, wire mesh, etc. 1: Super cheap trellis: If you wonder how to make a trellis, here is a simple yet effective type of a solution for you. You can now keep your plants the way you want, and that even without requiring any space, as such. Get some wooden stakes and look for nails with wooden ends. You need to form diamond frames with that, and one the base of each, attach pencils for support. The dull wood trellis does not appeal much, so spray paint it, and it is ready to be used in some pot, or attach in to the roof. 2: Simple backyard Cedar trellis: Get some cedar slabs and join them to form a robust frame structure. After that, make sure the wooden lattice that you have formed fix in this structure properly, otherwise you will have to spend time cutting it. Dug 4 inch in the ground (backyard) so that you can place the trellis and secure it. 3: Copper garden trellis: You must be thinking how to build a trellis with copper? Well, here is a quick guide for your knowledge, it is simple yet requires patience: Cut the thick (medium sized) copper tubes Use hammer to flatten the ends of the copper rods Use jigs so that you can keep the copper rods aligned, as it will form the basic structure. Your trellis is ready to be installed in the backyard. 4: Wall fixed trellis: Firstly, have a sketch ready in front of you, so that you can easily go about it. Then, build a wooden lattice and following that a wooden frame. They both should complement each other while joining them together. Give it finishing touch by putting up the cap rail. With help of the nails, attach the frame to the wall. You can spray paint if you want to hide the cedar color. 5: Trellis from bike rim: Did you ever think of doing such a diy plan? Attach the two rims by joining the center from metal rod. Later, with garden twine, draw lines in both the rims so that it forms a support structure. You can place desired plants at the base of the wire. 6: Squash and melon trellis: This is Beautiful trellis ideas for growing melon and squash – within this structure, make lattice with nylon garden trellis mesh. You have your trellis ready to be used; it works well for planting peas. 7: Weekend trellis plan: Size the frame and mark the cleft so that you can easily cut. After you have smoothened the structure, assemble the horizontal frame. Attach the lattice to the frame and attach the caps. Make three of the same kind and place them side by side on the wall so give an aesthetic look. 8: Sophisticated and elegant Patio trellis: This one can be made on the front side of the house, because it exhibits great aesthetic appeal. You need to make a wire lattice within the lumber structure and fix it in space that you have in your garden space. It can be an old door or wall, as per your wish. Make sure you dig in 3 inches and then fix the frame in the soil. It can be ideal cucumber trellis too. 9: Flower Trellis from treated lumber: You can follow the structure which has various sizes of frame, made from treated lumber. Once you have the basic frame, you can attach the netting along with it and form the perfect trellis. Attach all the frames together and you have the desired type of garden trellis. 10: Crib wall Trellis: Take the crib wall and paint it whatever color you like – once done, attach spacers at the back of it, so that it can easily be placed with the wall.

Invisible Trellis - A cheap raised bed trellis system

10:09
Check out this video to see how to build a very simple and inexpensive trellis for any size raised bed garden. Using some scrap wood that I already had I was able to keep the cost of each of these below $1. These are great for growing peas, cucumbers, pole beans, or any other vining crop. In our case we have six 6' X3' raised bed garden boxes that were made from free pallet wood. I choose to run a trellis down the long side of each box so that I could maximize the amount of climbing crops I could grow. Our family loves pickles and peas so that will be the main use for them this year. This is also the best angle for the sun so that as the vining crops get bigger they will not block out the smaller crops in the box below. I started by cutting 3 2X4's into 6' pieces and 6 2X4's into 45" pieces. This will make the trellis about 48" tall from the height of the dirt but you can make them shorter or taller of course. Next I ripped down the 2X4's into 1 3/4" wide strips (cutting each one in half long ways). At this point you have made all the cuts that you need for six trellis's. There are many different ways to connect the frames together but I choose to use a half-lap joint in this case. this will be the strongest joint that will withstand the wind and weight of the fruit hanging in the wind here in Michigan. I used a circular saw to cut each joint down 3/4" by making several close cuts at the ends of each board. I then chiseled out that area until it was fairly flat. These don't have to be perfect and if you mess up a bit you can always sand them flat once they are secured together. Check out the video for more details on this step. Next I overlapped the half-lap joints and predrilled some holes making sure things were square before I drilled. Wood glue is used to secure the joints together along with some 1" wood screws. Once the glue has dried you can get them painted with whatever color you would like. I recommend using a deck stain or other sealer so that they withstand the weather. At this point you are ready to secure them to the ends of your raised beds. 2 1/2" deck screws were used (2 in each leg) to secure them to the boxes. Next, make a mark every 3" starting at the top and working your way to the bottom on the outside of each leg. Using whatever size drill bit you have around (I always break my small ones) drill a hole at each mark at least big enough to get the fishing line through. I am using 60 lb. test single filament for this step but you can use whatever size and strength line you would like. You can also use string or any other type of cord here if you would like. I chose fishing line since it is clear it makes them almost invisible during the off season when nothing is growing on them. Start feeding the line through from the bottom hole and work your way up to the top using one single piece of line for each trellis. If you prefer you can also use one piece for each run back and forth but I chose for less hassle and just weaved the single line back and forth through each hole until I was at the top. Tie it off and the ends or tie a knot so that it cannot slip back through and you are done. This trellis should be long lasting, stand up to the elements, and look a bit nicer than the standard lattice that you could pick up at the store. Plus, these look much nicer when nothing is growing on them which for us up here in Michigan, is most of the year! Tomato Trellises

08:32
I have made 8 trellises for my tomato plants in my garden. The main reason for this was to experiment with making very lightweight frames but also save money from buying premade tomato trellises. The trellises are 3 feet tall and a foot square. They have 3 horizontal pieces to hold up the tomato plant branches. They are made of cedar fence boards. I hope they last a little while in the dirt. Easiest Cheap DIY Trellis Ever! For Beans, Cucumbers, Squash, and More.

03:42
Trellises are a great way to grow more using less space. I use them for beans, and cucumbers, but they can also be used for squash, or small melons. I like things that are easy, and this trellis is about as easy as it gets. It is pretty close to being a trellis when you buy it. It comes in 8 foot sections, so if you don't want it that tall, you will have to cut some off.......using bolt cutters. I garden in zone 6b. We have some pretty challenging weather sometimes. I don't claim to be an expert, so you will see my successes and my failures. I really appreciate feedback, so please say hi so I'll know you've dropped by. Lowe's Creative Ideas: Building an Outdoor Privacy Screen

03:25
Feeling overexposed? Building an outdoor privacy screen can change all of that. With just a few tools and supplies you will have privacy in no time. Full project details here: http://low.es/1lLxPQJ First, lay out all of your supplies. The screens will be built inside out, so start by building the interior frame. Once the inner frame is built, attach to the outside posts with screws. The posts are just two 2 x 6s with a 2 x 4 in between. Make sure everything is squared up before attaching. Now you can add the rest of the horizontal rails and the metal flashing. Weave the metal flashing (while wearing gloves) and screw them in with sheet metal screws. The last step is to attach the last two 2 x 6 posts. Stain the lumber to your liking. After the building is complete, think about the layout of the screens. Once you have marked the spots for the posts, dig the holes (check with your local utility locating service beforehand). You may want to use an auger to help dig the post holes. Consult with your local building officials to see how deep you can dig. Then, to prep the holes, add some gravel. Now you can place the screens into the post holes and add concrete. Adjust your screens until they are level and the concrete is still setting. Once the concrete has set, you are ready to enjoy your backyard patio screens! Trellis Plant Support Ideas + 2017 July Urban Garden, Edible Landscape -Albopepper Walk thru

21:20
Vining plants can be trained to grow on a trellis to increase plant density. This year I've replaced my self-watering totes with a nice SIP raised bed. This allows me to construct a much better trellis system for my vegetables! Here are some basic garden / trellis supplies that I've found to be indispensable: - Twine Plant Clips: http://amzn.to/2v820Lj (Amazon) - Jute Cord: http://amzn.to/2uyLhDU (Amazon) - Polyester Netting: http://amzn.to/2t5AhcN (Amazon) - 4-Way Tee PVC Fitting: http://amzn.to/2vspqKZ (Amazon) - PVC Coated Welded Wire: http://amzn.to/2utsgSE (Amazon) - Green Stretch Tie: http://amzn.to/2thLU4t (Amazon) - Turnbuckles: http://amzn.to/2upt37m (Amazon) - 16 Gauge Galvanized Steel Wire: http://amzn.to/2tvBYzu (Amazon) - 12 Gauge Galvanized Steel Wire: http://amzn.to/2uyPdo7 (Amazon) I've been diligently pruning and training annual veggies to grow up several plant support systems. They're going vertical, greatly increasing yield within a small space. This includes beans, peas, spaghetti squash, cantaloupe and even watermelon! I'm also training fruit bearing perennials using various trellis and espalier techniques. My vining or espalier plants include air potatoes, passion fruits, currants, plums, Asian pears and a hardy kiwi. In this video we take a closer look at how fence posts, U-posts and T-posts can be used for plant training in your edible landscape or backyard orchard. They can be combined with polyester netting, galvanized wire, welded wire or lattices. Some systems will support more weight than others. Some will last much longer. They may be used to for aesthetics, creating a nice privacy screen. Or they may be barely visible, allowing plants to grow unobstructed. Growing in conventional raised beds can be highly productive. But many veggies perform even better in self-watering beds and containers. When combined with effective trellising, you'll be amazed at how many vegetables you can squeeze into a small space! We've finished harvesting a bumper crop of strawberries. We've enjoyed a steady trickle of raspberries and alpine strawberries. And now the blueberries and aronia have ripened. Our passion fruit has already begun to flower which means we'll have fruit even sooner than last year. I'm looking forward to watermelons and cantaloupe! :-D #RaisedBedGardening #UrbanGardening #VerticalGardening #SelfWateringGarden #BackyardOrchard ================================== Support AlboPepper.com and get some cool garden shirts that I designed myself: https://shop.spreadshirt.com/albopepper/ ==================================
Garden Fence

02:00
We made a fence to keep our dog out of the garden. We got creative and designed it in a way where the fence actually pivots vertically on the short sides of the garden. We used PVC pipe, zip ties, chicken wire, metal "Plumber's Tape", and bungies to make the fence.

Hops trellis for a home garden

08:40
This is my first attempt at a hops garden at home. From reading online and watching some videos I came up with this design for my home garden. I'll be growing 4 total plants with 8 climbing ropes (2 per plant). The varieties include two Magnum plants, a Glacier, and a Chinook. All plants were purchased from Great Lakes Hops as crowns so it will be faster and easier to get hops from these plants in my first season. I created this video with the YouTube Video Editor (http://www.youtube.com/editor)

Concrete Fence Post Fencing DIY | The Carpenter's Daughter

07:26
Hi everyone, We’ve badly needed our fence replacing for well over two years. We’d patched it up that many times as we’ve had other more important jobs to do. So here’s how I took on installing concrete fence posts and gravel boards. The original fence was not only rotten, but each post was wobbly and found all, except the back two, were put in by fence spikes. So now I plan on finally finishing the patio in front of the garage and then time to think about making a gate. We had some very tricky weather conditions, so had to do it in parts (so try and do it when you know you have good weather). We also found absolutely tonnes of concrete, everything was extremely heavy, so I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the helping hand of my fiancé. Everything we used was bought from Buildland – this is NOT a sponsored post – they were the cheapest in the Midlands, so just shop around. Note the concrete posts are quite holey, so you’re best checking them out before you buy them (I, however, did not!) LIST OF THINGS USED: Buildland: http://bit.ly/2hVAEFX Trenching Shovel: http://amzn.to/2fNnfiN 8ft concrete posts (note, these are quite holey, so not the most professional finish in my opinion): http://bit.ly/2xI9nxd Gravel: http://bit.ly/2xHorvd Wagner Fence & Decking Sprayer: http://amzn.to/2yC5YwT Concrete gravel board: http://bit.ly/2xMvVKP Fence Panels (out of stock): http://bit.ly/2hEM4hk Wickes Red Cedar Fence Stain: http://bit.ly/2khxfm3 JTF Concrete Breaker: http://amzn.to/2fBtWAG --------------------------------------------------------------- You can also find me at the following places: My Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/thecarpentersdaughter The Carpenter's Daughter Blog: http://www.thecarpentersdaughter.co.uk/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thecarpenters_daughter/ My Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/Carpenters-Daughter-1581968535377709 Pinterest: http://uk.pinterest.com/carpenterslass/ Twitter: http://twitter.com/carpenterslass --------------------------------------------------------------- FOOD: My Food Channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/TastefullyVikkie My Food Blog: http://www.tastefullyvikkie.com My Food Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/TastefullyVikkie Instagram: https://instagram.com/tastefullyvikkie/ Pinterest: https://uk.pinterest.com/tastefullyvik/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/tastefullyvikki ---------------------------------------------------------------
