7 Ways to Survive Natural Disasters
How to Survive Natural Disasters. Here’s a list of survival tips that can save your life in an emergency. We live in a time when natural disasters occur more and more often and get more and more devastating. Many of us believe we should blame the human race for that. Whether it’s true or not, we all want to know how to survive when those disasters happen. Some rules are universal for most natural disasters. A national campaign called Ready was started in the United States to inform the population about how to get ready for and survive in different emergency situations. It recommends having a basic survival kit to provide you with the most important things just in case. Remember you will need to have enough food, water, and other supplies for at least 72 hours after the disaster. “Other supplies” include a battery powered weather radio, flashlight, first aid kit, a whistle, a dust mask, personal sanitation items (such as moist towelettes), pliers, can opener for food, maps of your area and an emergency cell phone with backup batteries. TIMESTAMPS Hurricane 0:40 Tornado 1:45 Tsunami 3:15 Flood 4:10 Avalanche 5:03 Wildfire 6:00 Earthquake 7:00 SUMMARY - If a hurricane starts while you are driving, leave your vehicle and find a building to shelter in, or a ditch. Stopping in an overpass will not save you. If your home is a trailer and there is enough time to flee to a safe area – do it. - If a tornado starts when you are in a public building, follow the same rules. You want to stay as low as possible. Avoid windows and open spaces such as auditoriums, gyms, and large hallways. Desks and benches can give you some extra protection if you get under them. It is impossible to outrun a tornado. - Tsunamis are so fast they hit the coast minutes after the earthquake. Remember that tall buildings, including hotels right in the beach area, can provide an excellent shelter. In case a tsunami finds you at sea, stay there instead of going back to the coast. It won’t be a safe haven. - Don’t try to be the bravest person around and stay in your house once you hear the evacuation warning. Leave for safety in higher grounds with your important papers in a waterproof container. If a flash flood gives you no time to evacuate and the water is all around you, don’t try to swim across it. - When an avalanche starts, try to move to the side of the slope as fast as you can. There will be more snow in the center of the flow. To move faster, drop any heavy equipment you have on you. If you can’t escape it, try using a sturdy tree to keep you above the snow. - If you find yourself in a wildfire area, it is critically important to ensure that you can breathe. If you fail to do it, you can pass out in the midst of a danger zone. Use a wet cloth to cover your nose and mouth and escape to safety. - If an earthquake starts when you are inside, stay where you were. Experts say that during an earthquake you must drop to the floor, get underneath a table, cover your neck and head with one hand, and hold on with the other hand. Your entire body must be under the table. Don’t try to run out of the building - the exterior of a building is one of the most dangerous places. Do bleeding after few days of emergency contraceptive indicate regular periods? - Dr. Shefali Tyagi
Emergency contraceptives are widely used nowadays and the tie you will want to use is probably when there is a breakage or slippage of condoms while having intercourse, or it is a fertile time and you have had unprotected intercourse and you have missed taking your pills, 2 to 3 days in a row. In those cases, emergency pills can be used to avoid becoming pregnant. Emergency contraceptive is not 100% safe. It can lead to pregnancy in 10% cases. That means it works upto 90%.In many women experience a little bleeding after consumption of Emergency contraceptive pills, usually 3 to 5 days after taking the pill. So you need not worry. But when will you have your next periods, that is a little difficult to answer as you will have bleeding in the middle. So the next periods can happen on the expected date of your last cycle or it can be a month from when the bleeding has happened. So you will have to wait and watch and if you have missed your periods, still do a pregnancy test, just to see that you have not conceived by chance and if it is positive, then be in touch with the doctor. If it is negative then wait on for a week or two and the consult your gynecologist.

Beijing Smog Causes Emergency Plans, Ban Half Its Cars Each Day
In the 1970s, gasoline shortages led to the adoption of a temporary odd-even system for fuel purchases in parts of the U.S. Now, Beijing is instituting a similar system, but for a very different reason--to combat its notoriously heavy air pollution. The municipal government's plan calls for enacting the odd-even scheme if the local air-quality index for pollution stays above 200 for more than 72 hours. If that occurs, vehicles with license plates ending in an odd number will only be allowed on the road during odd-numbered days, while vehicles with even plates will be restricted to use on even-numbered days only. All-electric cars will be exempt from these restrictions. http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1097536_beijing-smog-so-bad-that-emergency-plans-ban-half-its-cars-each-day http://www.wochit.com

Officials: It's a Good Time to Review Your Own Emergency Plan
Over 7000 flights along the East Coast were cancelled today because of the storm, and getting all those flights back to normal could take a couple of days. This tropical storm is impacting airport travel around the country. Here at Nashville International, 23 flights, including arrivals and departures, have been canceled. While we're not in the direct path of the storm, officials say it's a good time to review your own emergency plan. While Tennessee is not in the direct path of super storm Sandy, officials at Tennessee Emergency Management are on alert."We put extra staff on just to watch that situation, but also to monitor other states, especially on the East Coast, because we might be called upon to send responders to help them," says TEMA's Jeremy Heidt. You don't have to be an emergency responder to be prepared."What we recommend is that everybody have at least 3 days worth of food in the home," says Heidt. "That gives a nice cushion with ability to survive when something prevents you from leaving your house."This year TEMA launched READYTN, an app for the iPhone and Android devices."In the planning section, disaster check lists to go through and make checks," says Heidt. The app lists emergency contacts for Tennessee counties, and what you need to build emergency kits for your home or vehicle, depending on the weather event or disaster you're preparing for."If you drive around in winter, you should have a winter weather kit in your car with warm clothing, signaling devices, cell phone charged, at least half a tank of gas," says Heidt. "You need to have food, water, medications. Keep things simple to prepare or meals ready to eat or instant package open without any cooking."This time it's our neighbors to the Northeast being pounded by torrential rain and damaging winds, but in Middle Tennessee, floods, tornadoes and severe storms are just a few reasons to take inventory of the emergency plan for your family. To get more information on the ReadyTN app, or to check flight delays or cancellations, click the FOX LINKS section at Fox17.com.

Why YOU Should Have A Bug Out Bag ~ BOB
Every single person in every household should have a bug out bag for emergency. Every single household should have a disaster plan in place in case something happens. I have seen many disasters here in Upstate New York. Enough to know that having a bug out bag ready to grab and go at a moments notice is very important. Many of you can remember the video I recently did about the forest fire raging just 5 miles from my home. This fire caused an entire village to be evacuated. I bet each one of those families wished that they had a bug out bag ready. I have seen two hurricanes in Upstate New York which wiped out many towns and villages in its path. I myself lost my apartment and business to one of those hurricanes. I am happy that I had three months of food put away at that time or I would have gone hungry in the jobless period that followed. Around here the shelves in the stores were bare for a while. Gas stations had no gas. Camping supplies, propane, water, fast foods, flashlights, batteries and more were gone from the shelves for two weeks after the disaster. People were actually fighting at the gas pumps later when some gas did show up here and there. Your home could be hit by a tornado, fire, hurricane, terrorism, or any other disaster which could force you to evacuate with very short notice. Your family should have a 72 hour bug out bag for each member of the family. Children can carry a small bag for themselves. You can make it fun for them and they will love it. You should have a bug out plan. Get to know the area. Find a place where you would go if disaster forced you out of your home for a short time. Go there, find alternate routes to get there from your home. Have two or more locations in case the disaster is wide spread. You should train with your loved ones. Get them in practice. In school we had regular fire and tornado drills. We practiced until we all simply acted robotically when the alarm went off. The Army does the same. You drill again and again until an action is automatic. Disaster can strike at any time. Make sure your family is prepared with a 72 hour bag. This bag should contain basic needs such as food and water for three days, toiletries, shelter, warm clothes depending on your area, first aid kit and medical needs. I have a comprehensive list of bug out bag contents on my website here: - Hurricane and Disaster Survival Pack: http://www.thedoityourselfworld.com/blog/?p=797 Includes the FEMA recommdations - My own bug out bag contents: http://www.thedoityourselfworld.com/blog/?p=1109 - What happens when a real disaster strikes - Hurricane Sandy: http://www.thedoityourselfworld.com/blog/?p=1081

Caillou forces an emergency landing
I flew on Allegiant Air back in 2015 and it was a HORRIBLE experience. We had to sit stiff for 3 hours with NO WIFI. So I am making this video for you guys to tell you that Allegiant is bad and don't fly on it. Caillou gets angry of a boring airline (Allegiant Air) for not having WiFi on their airplane and decides to break it by getting a bear to destroy it. The plane ends up making an emergency landing in freezing cold McCook, NE after the bear chewed up wires to the flight control. The plane hits the runway hard, skids along the runway, overshoots, and crash lands into a grassy field. Will Caillou get grounded?

The real reason American health care is so expensive
Hint: single-payer won’t fix America’s health care spending. Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO Americans don't drive up the price by consuming more health care. They don't visit the doctor more than other developed countries: http://international.commonwealthfund.org/stats/annual_physician_visits/ But the price we pay for that visit - for a procedure - it costs way more: http://static1.squarespace.com/static/518a3cfee4b0a77d03a62c98/t/57d3ca9529687f1a257e9e26/1473497751062/2015+Comparative+Price+Report+09.09.16.pdf The price you pay for the same procedure, at the same hospital, may vary enormously depending on what kind of health insurance you have in the US. That's because of bargaining power. Government programs, like Medicare and Medicaid, can ask for a lower price from health service providers because they have the numbers: the hospital has to comply or else risk losing the business of millions of Americans. There are dozens of private health insurance providers in the United States and they each need to bargain for prices with hospitals and doctors. The numbers of people private insurances represent are much less than the government programs. That means a higher price when you go to the doctor or fill a prescription. Uninsured individuals have the least bargaining power. Without any insurance, you will pay the highest price. 3 Reasons You Need An Emergency Fund
3 Reasons You Need An Emergency Fund For most Americans, having an emergency fund seems like a pipe dream. In fact, 64% of Americans can't afford a $1,000 unplanned expense. Think about how many $1,000 unplanned expenses could happen to you tomorrow. The transmission on the car could go out, your child could have a medical emergency, or you could lose your job. These may seem like rare occurrences, but you just never know when one might happen to you or your family. Although there are many reason to have an emergency fund, here are 3 reasons to have get you started: 1. Career Transition: Did you know that right now it takes around 5 months to find a new job? This is the median, meaning half of employees can find one faster, but for the other half, it takes even longer. If you were laid off tomorrow, how long would it take you to find a new job and get started? If you are in a high demand field, this may not be a big risk for you. If you are a specialist however, it may take a long time. Add to this the chance of having to move to this new job, and the dollars really start to add up. No matter how secure you are in your job, be sure to have enough cash stashed away for the possibility of a career transition. Even jobs such as in the public sector or as a member of a union aren't nearly as secure as they once were. 2. Health Issues: Just over 25% of adults will become disabled before they retire. Although this may be a short-term disability and only keep you out of the workforce for a small period of time, it could very well be a long-term issue. For American's that have disability insurance, it may only cover long-term disabilities. This means that you would be on the hook for the first 3-6 months of living expenses until your disability insurance kicks in. If you can't cover a $1,000 unplanned expense, how woul;d you cover 3-6 months of loss of income? And be careful about counting on Social Security Disability insurance. They have very strict standards on who qualifies, to the point that if you can do ANY work (even being a Walmart greeter), it can be almost impossible to qualify. 3. Family Events: What happens when a family member dies, and you need to travel to their funeral? What about if you end up responsible for some of the funeral costs? What if a parent gets sick, and you need to take time off of work to care for them? All of these (and more) can happen in an instant, and you could be left scrambling to cover the costs. Reduction of income, travel expenses, and medical costs can add up quickly. Protect yourself We have to accept that life happens, and there isn't much we can do about it. Murphy's Law says "anything that can go wrong, will go wrong." Imagine if you had 3-6 months of living expenses just in case something did go wrong. How much more secure would you feel? From my experience, having an emergency fund allows you to focus on dealing with the issue as hand, instead of stressing about how you will pay for it. This can provide an immense amount of relief, security, and stability to your personal finances. Set up your bank account to automatically move money into an emergency fund, even if you can only save $25/week. You will be glad you did. So what do you think? Have you ever experienced an emergency? Did you have the money to cover your expenses? If you had an emergency fund, how do you feel it made a difference? Be sure to share your thoughts in the comment section!

Less than half of all Americans will be able to deal with a financial emergency of 1000 dollars. Where do you fit in that statistic? We will be covering exactly how to grow and use your emergency fund and cover the reasons behind it. having a budget helps you with planed expenses while your Rainy day fund helps you with the unexpected. These include hospitalization, being laid off, flat tires and more truly urgent emergence. The flash sale at the mall is not an emergency.
