One medium orange provides about 2 to 3 g of soluble fiber, as well as other beneficial nutrients such as vitamin C, folate, and potassium. You have to eat oranges in order to benefit from their fiber content, so put your juicer aside, and choose thick-skinned varieties for the best taste and easiest peeling. Beans and Lentils Beans and lentils are sky-high in fiber, a good portion of which is the heart-healthy soluble type. Turns out, these little powerhouses are a great source of phytosterols, the natural plant compounds that block absorption of dietary cholesterol. They’re also rich in monounsaturated fat, fiber, and antioxidants — all of which are good for heart health. I prefer pistachios in the shell because it forces me to eat them slowly and prevents me from overdoing it with these healthy — but caloric — treats. Oil Spray Because losing weight is the best way to lower your LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and boost your HDL (“good”) cholesterol, cutting calories is important. One surefire way to cut back is to use an oil spray in place of bottled oils when cooking. Frozen Meals Preservatives, processed salt and hydrogenated oils are very common in most frozen meals. For that reason, it is better to avoid them and their extreme lack of nutrients. If you are opting for frozen meals, try Amy’s or Organic Bistro – two brands that try to create truly healthy varieties. White Bread Refined flour and white bread are stripped of nutrients and are hard to digest. They also have been bleached and can contain chlorine and bromide that were used for that process. Skip the white bread and go for whole grains that contain vitamins and minerals. White Rice Most nutrients have been stripped from the rice when it is white rice. Brown rice is processed differently, absorbed more slowly and provides a more even energy level. White rice, even the fortified variety, does not provide nearly the same amount of nutrients. Microwaveable Popcorn The corn kernals used for microwave popcorn is genetically modified, and then processed salt and preservatives are added to improve its flavor. Add to that the fact that a chemical called diacetyl can destroy the lungs, and that is found in microwaveable popcorn. Avoid the disease and unhealthy chemicals in the bag and use organic kernals in a kettle instead. Cured Meat Hot dogs, bacon, deli meats and other meats available at the grocery store contain sodium nitrite and other chemical preservatives. These have been linked to both heart disease and cancer. It is better to opt for uncured meats. Energy Bars Energy bars include soy protein, refined sugars and hydrogenated fat, which are all things to avoid. Therefore, even though as a meal replacement it is supposed to help with weight loss, it can actually be bad for you. There are some brands that stick to natural ingredients, like PROBAR, Organic Food Bar and Zing. It still takes caution and some label reading to make sure they are worth consuming and will be healthy alternatives. Soy Milk Almost all non-organic soy is genetically modified and has lost a significant amount of the benefits gained from consuming soy. Hexane is a toxic chemical that can cause birth defects, issues with reproduction and even cancer. Non-fermented soy is high in estrogen and interferes with the natural hormone balance as well. Margarine The common misconception that butter and saturated fats are bad, but the true danger comes with the hydrogenated trans-fat known as margarine. Used in numerous processed foods, margarine is something to avoid. If you want to skip the butter and animal-based fats, opt for coconut oil or olive oil. Diet anything Artificial sweeteners like aspartame and sucralose are known to cause endocrine disruption, neurological issues and gastrointestinal problems. In this video, I cover four of the most popular diet and meal plan tips that need to be buried right here and now. Right off the bat, some will have you believe that eating fat makes you fat. That can’t be further from the truth. Eating fat, COULD make you fat if you eat in excess of your daily caloric maintenance levels just as eating too many carbs and protein can as well. The simple act of eating a fat molecule will not cause it to be stored as body fat in your body. In fact, nutritional fats are a necessary part of a healthy diet plan, with fat making up a portion of the surrounding layer of nearly every cell in your body. Next diet myth that needs to die is the concept that eating after 6PM at night is somehow going to make you fat. Again, it comes down to where you are at in your daily caloric intake in relation to your maintenance levels. If you are 800 calories below your daily caloric maintenance intake, eating these calories at 7 or 8 or even 10PM is not going to adversely affect you in your pursuit of getting a ripped six pack. The fact of the matter is, you are still at or below your level to maintain your current level of body fat and simply shifting the time at which you consume these calories does not change their thermal effect. That said, eating your meals too infrequently throughout the day can wreak havoc on your blood sugar levels. Having wildly unstable levels of blood sugar can lead to severe alterations in mood, focus and most importantly cravings. When you allow your cravings to build too significantly, you often find yourself in a position where you will grab foods that don’t align themselves with your healthy eating approach needed to get ripped and stay ripped as you build muscle. The next popular eating and diet tip that is dispensed all too often these days is the concept that you cannot build muscle if you are following a vegan or vegetarian meal plan. Why? There are plenty of protein options available to those following a meat and dairy free meal plan including quinoa, chick peas, and even pea protein powders that enable vegans to get adequate protein without having to follow a meat based eating plan. The total amount of protein needed to build new muscle is still a hotly debated topic however it has been shown to vary from individual to individual and could be far less than what you may have been told previously. Finally, there is a mistaken belief by some that taking supplements and fat burners will get you ripped. That is simply not the case if you refuse to also take your daily diet plan seriously. If you think that you can eat like garbage the whole day and simply pop a supplement and get lean, ripped abs you are wrong. That said, someone that is committed to eating healthy and then supplements their diet plan with workout and nutrition supplements is often able to get much faster results than those that don’t. My answer is that it really depends on you. I will show you the pros and cons of rice and go over what I believe is the healthiest rice today. There is a debate today about if you should consume rice or not: ⁃ The paleo diet community says to stay grain-free and therefore that rice is not healthy ⁃ Chinese medicine followers and vegans think rice can be an incredible superfood I believe there is validity to both but it depends on the person and the preparation of the rice. Rice to stay away from: Refined White Rice (This is not jasmine or basmati rice but the sticky white rice from fast food or Chinese restaurants.) Rice Cons: • Fiber, minerals and vitamins have been removed. • Study shows that people are twice as likely to develop diabetes as opposed to those eating whole grain brown rice. • Contains phytic acid (enzyme inhibitor) which keeps you from absorbing and digesting vitamins and minerals. • Contains proteins that are difficult to digest Rice Pros: • Whole grain brown rice is high in B3 which is good for heart health. • Whole grain brown rice is high in selenium which supports the thyroid and kidneys. • Certain types of rice contain GABA, a neurotransmitter that can support the brain and help reduce anxiety as well as support metabolism. So ... is rice healthy? Is brown rice healthy? It depends on how it is prepared. I believe if rice is soaked and sprouted, it unlocks the vitamins and minerals versus most rices that aren’t sprouted. Eating Greek yogurt all the time will help your digestive system stay healthy, boost your immune system, help with weight loss, stop high blood pressure, lower bad cholesterol, and fight yeast infections. 2. Two tablespoons of chia seeds will give you 9.4 grams of protein. They are also one of the best plant sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Chia seeds can help with digestion, treat anemia, give you energy, control blood sugar, stop aging signs, and boost brainpower. 7. Quinoa Quinoa has all nine important amino acids, and is a full protein source. One cup of cooked quinoa has 8.14 grams of protein. Sadly, new,... supposedly “healthier” fats emerged -- such as sunflower, corn, soybean and cottonseed oils…. And margarine, let’s not forget about this junky fat. Ironically, THESE fats have contributed more to heart disease, heart attacks and strokes than most other foods and certainly a lot more than saturated fats. And this is because these so-called “healthy” fats are high in inflammatory omega 6 fats. Plus, when heated, the fat molecule oxidizes, changes structure, becomes hydrogenated and basically, TOXIC to your body. These vegetable and seed fats are NOT designed to be heated, while saturated fats are. Yet, a major meta-analysis of 21 studies with almost 350,000 adults, revealed no difference in the risks of heart disease and stroke between people with the lowest and highest intakes of saturated fat.1 And there are other, major studies showing similar results.2,3 Simply stated, eating saturated fats does NOT cause heart disease! Eat More Saturated Fats Actually, the truth is that eating saturated fats can actually help prevent heart disease. This is because they reduce levels of Lipoprotein (a) [LP(a)], which has a very strong correlation to heart disease.4-6 Improved Cardiovascular Risk Factors What’s interesting is that currently there are no drugs that lower Lipoprotein (a), but saturated fats do! Again, nature already has the solutions - NOT pharmaceutical companies! Additionally, eating saturated fats helps increase your “good” HDL cholesterol (lipoprotein). That’s a double positive bonus! And there are other benefits too. Weight Loss Saturated fats, especially coconut oil, can help you lose fat by increasing your metabolism and thyroid. Healthier Brain The brain is made largely of fat and the majority of the fat in the brain is saturated. Healthier Liver Saturated fats also encourage the liver cells to dump their fat content - this is a primary step in stopping that unhealthy and ugly belly fat. Additionally, saturated fat has been shown to protect the liver from the toxicity of alcohol and medication drugs. Stronger Bones They also help make your bones stronger, especially in women. Vegetable oils do the opposite and cause osteoporosis. Stronger Immune System Saturated fats, especially coconut oil is amazing for your immune system. The myristic and lauric acid have antibacterial and antifungal qualities for your gut. In fact, these are also found in high amounts in human breast milk as a potent germ-killing ability for the baby. Healthier Lungs For proper function, the airspaces of the lungs have to be coated with a thin layer of what’s called lung surfactant. The fat content of lung surfactant is 100 percent saturated fatty acids. Replacement of these critical fats by other types of fat makes faulty surfactant and potentially causes breathing difficulties (such as asthma) and inflammation Healthier Skin Saturated fats, especially coconut also reduces inflammation, hydrates the skin and increases collagen - all of which are needed for healthier, more youthful skin. ========================================­ Thank you for watching. But is Bulletproof Coffee healthy and/or effective for losing fat? Here are 3 reasons why Bulletproof Coffee is a bad idea... 1) Bulletproof Coffee is very high in total calories and fat relative to its volume. Each cup contains 450 calories and about 50 grams of fat. If your goal is to lose fat, then you need to be maintaining a calorie deficit over time by burning more calories than you consume. Waking up and downing 450 calories and 50 grams of fat in liquid form is not going to be conducive to maintaining a calorie deficit since it's very calorie dense and won't fill you up. There is also no conclusive evidence to show that CLA or MCT oil have any significant fat burning effects in humans. Even if they did, the effect would be very modest and wouldn't come anywhere near offsetting the 450 calories in the Bulletproof Coffee itself. 2) Bulletproof Coffee is very low in essential nutrients. Aside from a small amount of vitamin A and K found in the butter, each cup is basically devoid of any real nutritional benefit. If you're using this as a replacement for one of your daily meals, then you'll probably be stripping away anywhere from about 20-30% of your daily nutrient intake assuming you're following a standard fat loss diet somewhere in the 1500-2500 calorie range. 3) Bulletproof Coffee is very high in saturated fat. This isn't guaranteed to be a problem, but the health effects of very high saturated fat intake are still not known, and given that Bulletproof Coffee probably won't benefit you anyway, I can't see any reason to take the risk. All in all, Bulletproof Coffee is really nothing more than marketing hype and I'd highly recommend skipping the oil and butter and sticking to good old plain coffee instead. Other substitutes you can use are oils. Some people like to use olive oil on their bread instead of butter or margarine. Cortisol if too high can mobilize more sugar and even turn your body protein into sugar thus raising your insulin and even causes insulin resistance or diabetes. So in other words, if your cortisol is high, chances are you could also have high insulin. This means you need to do things to lower insulin - keto and intermittent fasting! Here are some tips: 1. Take electrolytes to increase potassium and other minerals 2. B vitamins (nutritional yeast) 3. Sea salt - the adrenals need more sodium, because they lose more. 4. Trace minerals, esp, chromium and zinc. 5. More protein 6. Omega 3 (Krill is great) 7. Take long walks 8. Go slow - go at this gradually and eventually you'll be in full keto adaptation and no longer running only on glucose (avoid the blood sugar swings). Hi guys, in this video we are going to talk about is it safe for a menopausal women with adrenal fatigue to do keto and intermittent fasting. There are some confusion about this things that are floating out there that says it is dangerous and don’t do keto and intermittent fasting if your adrenals are stressed especially if you are going through menopause but it is the exact thing that you need to do but you need to do it correctly. So what can you do to keep your arteries healthy and free of blockage? Food can be used as a natural remedy to regress blockage and prevent further damage to your arteries. Here are 10 of the best foods you can eat to free your arteries of build-up. 1. Asparagus Asparagus is one of the best foods to cleanse your arteries. Full of fiber and minerals, it helps lower blood pressure and prevent blood clots that can lead to serious cardiovascular illness. It works within the veins and arteries to alleviate inflammation that may have accumulated over time. It boosts the body’s production of glutathione, an antioxidant that fights inflammation and prevents damaging oxidation that causes clogged or blocked arteries. It also contains alpha-linoleic acid and folic acid, which prevent hardening of the arteries. There are many great recipes for asparagus. Effect of Whey Protein on Insulin Whey is one of the two main proteins in milk - the other is casein. Whey, like all proteins, is made up of amino acids, the building blocks of protein. When we consume protein, we then break down these amino acids and use them for muscle growth and tissue repair. Whey contains all three BCAAs along with all of the essential amino acids. Whey is highly insulinogenic - consuming whey leads to a sharp increase in insulin levels. This response does not have to do with blood sugar levels - when a food has a high glycemic index, consuming it will cause a large increase in blood sugar levels. In response to this, the body produces insulin to combat the high blood sugar and allow glucose to enter our cells for energy. Whey is a fast acting protein, and the spike in insulin allows amino acids into the muscle cells to encourage repair, helping us to gain muscle and heal quickly. Consuming whey protein has actually been shown to lower blood glucose levels when consumed during or directly before a meal. A 2005 study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that when whey was combined in a high-sugar meal, individuals with type-2 diabetes had a lower blood glucose level following the meal than if no whey was consumed. This is thought to be because the increased insulin aided the body in glucose digestion. Generally, the better the whey, the higher the insulin spike and thus the more effective at delivering building blocks into the cells for the purpose or repair and growth. Best to consume whey directly following exercise. It is quickly broken down and made available to muscle cells for repair post workout. Whey protein isolate contains 90% protein and thus has less lactose, fat and cholesterol than whey protein concentrate. To get the most out of your protein, go for the whey protein isolate. You will experience less bloating and get more of the benefits - lean, ripped muscles. Too much protein is dangerous, so be sure not to consume excess protein. If that’s you, get ready to be surprised about what I’m going to say. FAIL! But YOU didn’t fail, the food manufacturer’s deceiving marketing hype has failed you. When I first started my journey, I also thought the packaged cereals were healthy. So I was upset, when I first learned what the ingredients inside these cereals were doing to my body. Let's be real. Food manufacturers in the cereal industry spend multi-millions of dollars every year trying to convince you that their cereal is healthy. What’s even more deceiving is, the nutrition label on these “healthy" cereals like Special K and Cornflakes may say they are “low fat” and “low sugar”. Here’s the deal. These cereals: - are filled with refined and processed carbohydrates - contain very little fiber - low in protein - have little to no healthy fat This combination is a perfect example of a food that will wreck havoc on your body’s fat burning hormones. Eating these cereals can cause hormonal imbalances, which can turn your body into a fat storing machine, even if the nutrition label says zero fat. The reason for this is the main ingredients in these cereals are higher glycemic carbohydrates like refined corn and wheat. During the refining process, most of the natural nutrients have been stripped from the grain. These processed ingredients are very high on the glycemic list and will quickly raise blood sugar levels. These carbohydrates then quickly enter the blood stream, thus requiring a large amount of the insulin hormone to remove the sugar from the blood. When large amounts of insulin is released by the body, if there is no room to store the sugar in the muscle cells, it gets stored in the fat cells. Hello to the new fatter and less healthy version of your old self. What’s even more startling are the high sugar cereals like fruit loops that are continuously being marketed to your kids. A survey found that some of the most popular kid’s cereal contains the same amount of sugar as a chocolate bar. I’m speaking to the whole refined cereal category. They’re a big reason why 1 in 4 children are overweight or obese with links to diabetes, high cholesterol, and heart disease. In rodents, there was an increase in risk of getting cholesterol, increases LDL, decrease in HDL and increase in triglycerides. However, in humans, there was the opposite; a decrease in cholesterol, decrease in LDL, increase in HDL and decrease in triglycerides. In Rodents increase insulin, but in humans, it decreases insulin, decrease blood sugar as well as decrease A1C. I have another question from someone, does ketosis increase or decrease the risk of heart disease. The study that I am going to post down below is very interesting because they compared the study from rodents versus humans. When they put people on the ketogenic diet which is basically is more fat but the carbs are way down. Rodents increases cholesterol, increases LDL (bad cholesterol), decreases HDL (good cholesterol) and increases triglycerides. But in humans, decreases cholesterol, decreases LDL (bad cholesterol), increases HDL (good cholesterol) and increases triglycerides. This tells me that the inflammation and the problems in the artery are not an issue. Let’s talk about the pancreas, in rodents it increase insulin and in humans it decrease insulin, blood sugar and A1C because the main cause of the heart disease is high insulin and the ketogenic diet is designed to lower insulin. One little thing I am going to add is to make sure you are going to add intermittent fasting to then take it to the next level because that will also help you lower cholesterol even more and really make this numbers really good.
