The opening of the UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center's new clinical research facility in the Cypress Building is making research a lot easier for health-care investigators at UC Davis. The new facility is generating excitement not only because of its prime location, state-of-the art equipment, and comprehensive resources and services, but also for the specialized nursing staff who can be deployed for "just-in-time" research protocols at the patient bedside in the hospital.

Cancer is the second-leading cause of death among Americans and takes a toll on communities across the United States. One of the effective ways to reduce our nation's burden from cancer is to ensure that high quality screening services are available and accessible to all Americans. Screening for cervical, colorectal, and breast cancers is supported by sound scientific evidence, and helps find these diseases early when they are easiest to treat. This session of Grand Rounds explored new ways that public health can increase the rate of evidence-based cancer screening, and decrease disparities in screening rates. Viewers learned about the effectiveness of screening, successful organized cancer screening programs in the United States and abroad, and opportunities with the Affordable Care Act. The session concluded with future directions for CDC and the nation's public health system to improve cancer screening. PLANNED PARENTHOOD BABY PARTS BUYER STEMEXPRESS WANTS “ANOTHER 50 LIVERS/WEEK,” FINANCIAL BENEFITS FOR ABORTION CLINICS Contact: Matille Thebolt, firstname.lastname@example.org, 571.501.4067 LOS ANGELES, Aug. 25–The eighth video in the ongoing controversy over Planned Parenthood’s sale of aborted fetal body parts shows the CEO of StemExpress, LLC, a major buyer of fetal tissue from Planned Parenthood, admitting the company gets “a lot” of intact fetuses, suggesting “another 50 livers a week” would not be enough, and agreeing abortion clinics should profit from the sale: http://www.centerformedicalprogress.org/2015/08/planned-parenthood-baby-parts-buyer-stemexpress-wants-another-50-liversweek-financial-benefits-for-abortion-clinics/ StemExpress is a for-profit biotech supply company that has been partnered with Planned Parenthood clinics across the country to purchase human fetal parts since its founding in 2010. StemExpress’ Medical Director, Dr. Ronald Berman, is an abortion doctor for Planned Parenthood Mar Monte. In the video, actors posing as another human biologics company meet with StemExpress CEO Cate Dyer, plus Vice President of Corporate Development and Legal Affairs Kevin Cooksy, and Procurement Manager Megan Barr. StemExpress and the actors are discussing a potential partnership to supply extra fetal body parts to each other. “So many physicians are like, ‘Oh I can totally procure tissue,’ and they can’t,” expresses Dyer, seeming to indicate that abortion doctors must do the procedure in a special way to obtain useable fetal parts. Federal law requires that no alteration in the timing or method of abortion be done for the purposes of fetal tissue collection (42 U.S.C. 289g-1). “What about intact specimens?” asks one of the actors. “Oh yeah, I mean if you have intact cases, which we’ve done a lot, we sometimes ship those back to our lab in its entirety,” replies Dyer. “Case” is the clinical term for an abortion procedure. An “intact case” refers to an intact abortion with a whole fetus. “The entire case?” asks an actor. “Yeah, yeah,” says Dyer. “The procurement for us, I mean it can go really sideways, depending on the facility, and then our samples are destroyed,” she explains past botched fetal dissections, “so we started bringing them back even to manage it from a procurement expert standpoint.” Feticidal chemicals like digoxin cannot be used to kill the fetus in a tissue procurement case, so a fetus delivered intact for organ harvesting is likely to be a born-alive infant. “What would make your lab happy?” asks one of the actors. “Another 50 livers a week,” says Dyer. “We’re working with almost like triple digit number clinics,” Dyer explains, “and we still need more.” She later notes, “Planned Parenthood has volume, because they are a volume institution.” Dyer also agrees that payments to abortion clinics for fetal body parts should be financially beneficial to them. “Do you feel like there are clinics out there that have been burned, that feel like they’re doing all this work for research and it hasn’t been profitable for them?” she asks. “I haven’t seen that.” StemExpress publishes a flyer for Planned Parenthood clinics that promises “Financial Profits” and “fiscal rewards” for clinics that supply aborted fetal tissue. It is endorsed by Planned Parenthood Mar Monte Chief Medical Officer Dr. Dorothy Furgerson: http://www.centerformedicalprogress.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/StemExpress-flyer.pdf The sale or purchase of human fetal tissue is a federal felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison or a fine of up to $500,000 (42 U.S.C. 289g-2). The Sacramento Business Journal reported in June that StemExpress has an annual revenue of $4.5 million. The video is the eighth released by The Center for Medical Progress in its investigative journalism study of Planned Parenthood’s sale of aborted baby parts. “StemExpress is the ‘weakest link’ that unravels Planned Parenthood’s baby parts chain–they readily admit the profit-motive that Planned Parenthood and their proxies have in supplying aborted baby parts,” notes David Daleiden, Project Lead for CMP. “Congress and law enforcement should immediately seize all fetal tissue files from StemExpress and all communications and contracts with Planned Parenthood. The evidence that Planned Parenthood profits from the sale of aborted baby parts is now overwhelming, and not one more dime of taxpayer money should go to their corrupt and fraudulent criminal enterprise.” ### Tweet: #PPSellsBabyParts For more information on the Human Capital project, visit centerformedicalprogress.org. Here Is A Little Bit Of My Story...... I was introduced to network marketing in 1999 after meeting my husband, Gary. Our first meeting was a hilarious one. We first met at the Copacabana, an infamous nightclub in New York City. When Gary first approached me, he gave me his business card trying to prospect me for his business. Even though I did not give him my number, I called him back and we set up a meeting a couple of days later where he picked me up after work. I worked for a busy shoe store in the fashion district of New York City and I was totally wiped out from a long day at work. He asked me if I would mind going over to his office. I agreed. We headed to a busy office, where I sat in a room with about twenty other people. We sat through a business presentation for a company I had never heard of. When it was over, I was kind of drawn back because I had never before heard of the type of information that was presented. That is when I realized that there had to be something more out there for me. Here I was, a 22-year-old, single mother of one at the time. I was going to college full time and working a full-time job. I felt as if I were going nowhere fast. Gary invited me to a Saturday event and we drove a couple of hours to get there. I could not understand why this event was going to be so long. Sitting at the day-long training, I kept wondering what I was doing there. Everything changed for me when a couple went on stage to address the audience. The wife explained how the company had changed their lives so much and how she could stay home with her children without having to work a full-time job. I realized then that I was killing myself working and going to college full time—and for what? I was missing my son's first years of life because I had no time off. I was heading down a path that had not worked for either of my parents. I finally decided to join my husband, Gary to work together in our current company to help change our family and other family's destiny for generations to come!! The topics and teachings of this blog comes from what we've learned from our experience of over 16 years in network marketing. We have used these same techniques when we first joined our current company in 2008 and after just 3 years in the company we made the highest level in leadership. Each year since joining our current company, we have both DOUBLED our team and income EACH YEAR!!! Because of our successes in our current company, we've been asked to speak at Leadership events throughout the United States plus enjoy trips we've earned trips to places such as Orlando, Florida, an Alaskan cruise, New Orleans and most recently Oahu, Hawaii. For the past 15 years, the Center for American Progress has served as a creative engine for introducing bold solutions that advance progressive values on nearly every possible front. In the past year alone, we have defended the Affordable Care Act; outlined policies to create workplaces that support women and families; discussed the impact of race across a wide range of issue areas; and helped drive opposition to President Donald Trump’s tax plan. At CAP, we believe that ideas are the heart of all progressive change, but we also know that ideas aren’t enough. It takes grassroots advocacy and real leadership supporting those ideas to create true progressive change. As we celebrate our 15th year of big ideas, CAP is bringing together elected officials, policy experts, cultural influencers, and grassroots activists at the 2018 CAP Ideas Conference, where we will explore and unveil new ideas that can make America a place for every single one of us to thrive. The Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties (NACo) have announced the winners of its 2013 Digital Counties Survey. Many of the winners found ways to provide better information security, transparency, and citizen engagement with innovative uses of social media and advanced decision support tools. The annual survey, which recognizes leading examples of counties using information and communications technology, chose winners that overcame tough fiscal barriers to improve government services and efficiency. Here are some highlights from this year's first-place winners. Montgomery County, Md., launched major open data initiatives that provide constituents with access to a variety of county information and established a formal innovation program and appointed a chief innovation officer. Chesterfield County, Va. expanded its Wi-Fi network, with almost 90 locations available to citizens. Chesterfield started four social media outlets and other avenues for interacting directly with citizens. Catawba County, N.C. has leveraged partnerships with local governments to procure technology products. In continued efforts to maximize resources, the county is forging new public-private partnerships to recycle raw materials for energy production. Charles County, Md., implemented a new content management open source system that improved internal workflows. Charles County also reduced software costs by eliminating duplication in software functions by merging systems. The survey, conducted by the Center for Digital Government and Digital Communities program, in partnership with the National Association of Counties, identifies best technology practices among counties nationwide, regardless of size, in four population categories. "This year, counties found innovative ways to save money where they can by simplifying their information technology infrastructure and sharing systems with other governments," said Center for Digital Government Executive Director Todd Sander. "That is why we highlight their efforts and share their success stories with others. "Congratulations to all!" "Counties across the country are aligning technology initiatives with executive strategic priorities to provide vital cost savings and administrative efficiencies," said NACo Executive Director Matthew D. Chase. "The Digital Counties Survey identifies best practices and innovative uses of technology crucial with today's constrained budgets to maintaining and even improving service levels." This year's survey was underwritten by CDW-G, Dell, EMC, McAfee, and Sprint.
