Avro Vulcan Foam Build: This is my first model airplane built out of flat-foam board and the free plans were obtained from: http://www.modelaviation.com/avrovulcan. Building your own park-ready delta wing out of 6mm foam board is easy and you get to enjoy flying a model with a slightly scale look, plenty of power, and maneuverability that will inspire you to want to build more flat-foam models. Personal Modifications: All foam parts were covered in packing tape & edges sealed with aluminum tape; markings were printed on plain paper using a inkjet printer & glued on with puzzle glue; a Velcro strap was added to secure the battery; wing tips were used to serve as landing skids; & the motor mount was reinforced with plywood braces.

Building a wing from folded 6mm depron using the Experimental Airlines method, with a few tweaks. Leaving the sub-trailing edge about 8mm thick means the aileron blends in nicely to the overall airfoil. 19mm thick x 190mm total chord giving a 10% section with the max thickness 30% back. 1.5m wingspan in 2 halves joined with a Skyshark P4X 7.5mm spar. Finished weight with 2 x TGY9018 metal gear servos and push rods - 250g I buy bulk depron from tradewarehouse.com.au The 20 double sized bulk pack for about $212 delivered makes it $5.30 per standard sized board. Packing tape was from Officeworks. Here is a step-by-step demonstration of the simple method used to pre-cover foamboard and Depron with thin colored packing tape. This covered foamboard forms the basic raw material for the Experimental Airlines construction technique for scratchbuilt RC airplanes. Also shown is the method for pre-covering for two-tone colored wings. This method requires only a blade, a ruler, a marker, a gift card, a cloth, and a smooth working surface at least the size of the foamboard, preferably with a edge drop-off at one or both ends. Some builders modify the process using tape dispensers and pressure rollers but the method shown can be done with basic materials most guys already have. Tape pre-covering gives a shiny, water-resistant, durable, high tensile strength finish to Readi-Board (aka Dollar Tree foamboard) and other foamboards so they are better suited to RC airplane construction. It adds only 20 grams (0.7oz) per 20"x30" foamboard, which amounts to only a 17% increase in weight if using Readi-Board. A 100m (110 yd) roll will realistically cover 9-10 foamboards of this size on one side. The original tape covering video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNqFnzmm0vI&feature=endscreen&NR=1 Experimental Airlines buys all tape for this procedure from TapeBrothers.com http://www.tapebrothers.com/Colored-Carton-Sealing-Tapes-s/218.htm Depron is available in most of Europe and also in the Americas - but at a price! Here's one I built up just for fun over the past few days. It's a single sheet of foamboard, a friends design. Check out his thread on RCGroups here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1442309 I built this one up with gear I had sitting around, so it's got a lot more power than it was originally designed for... lol I have a Suppo 2217-06 with a 7x6 APC-E prop, running on a 1300 Gens Ace 3S and a 30A ESC. It will go vertical like a rocket! Loads of power... and fun! lol Counting the foam, tape, glue, and all electronics, I have about $50 on it not including the transmitter. I kinda half expected it to blow apart on the full throttle passes! :D . _____________________________________ Support my channel and my efforts to bring you better content, every little bit helps! http://paypal.me/keithluneau Donations are never necessary but always appreciated, and always go directly back into the channel! _ You can also help to support my channel by clicking the affiliate links below: Banggood - https://www.banggood.com/Wholesale-Toys-And-Hobbies-c-133.html?p=8P130427854382015100 . eBay - http://ebay.to/2r7k3mb . First flight of the SSD, "Simplest Simple Delta" flying wing. I was nervous about flying an elevon control airplane but my fears were unfounded. It's a great elevon trainer. Not twitchy at all. It's made from foam poster board with the paper left on. If it crashes, no big deal. It only takes a couple of hours to build. Not my design, though I made a few changes to the original. I put the motor up front and added landing gear. Plans and instructions are at: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2145562 Thanks to "Balsa or Carbon" on RCGroups.com for the original. Part 0 (a basic intro to the Armin Wing concept). A really quick and simple way to build an actual airfoil for an RC airplane wing. For a rectangular wing it's at least as easy to make and as strong as a KF airfoil and has the proven high-lift design approximating the "Clark-Y" airfoil used on many real and RC airplanes. Videos to follow will include improvements that take a little extra time but will make the wing more aerodynamic, water resistant, and have an integral control surface for flaps and ailerons. This is just the wing construction - overall airplane design is up to the builder! Here is where I get my colored packing tape: http://www.tapebrothers.com/Colored-Carton-Sealing-Tapes-s/218.htm

Main foam material =$5 + a little dollar tree foamboard and thin plywood + $10Blue Wonder Motor + $10 ESC +Radio System + 2 $5 9gram servos. Also hot glue and packaging tape and "music wire" (for push rod) I apologize that the title of the referenced video is misleading as the cost of materials in not $5. When I originally made it, I only had to buy a $5 sheet of foamboard and all the other materials I found laying around my parents house. The name has since sorta sunk in and I'm not sure I can undo it. I made the "$5 trainer" while on Christmas vacation at my families house home from college. I wanted to do a project with my little brother. I had been doing some rather tedious and complicated projects (chainsaw plane and I put an autopilot on my big flying wing but didn't make a video about that) and I wanted a break and to do a simple project to get back to my roots and demonstrate that you don't need to do a whole lot to make an airplane. Sorta confession: This plane flew pretty badly! It has come to my attention that many of you see my finished result and are discouraged. At first, this plane, even with my experience, flew pretty funny. But after some tuning, it flew like this. I stretched some layers of tape along the bottom length of the wing to prevent it from bending so much, I also needed to really shove the battery up to the front so that it balanced at 1/4 of the wing chord (distance from front to back of wing from the leading edge). It is my hope that this video inspires people to try and make an airplane themselves. Please ask questions! This was a fun, cheap, and easy build. To demonstrate the freedom of scratchbuilding RC Planes. I had my little brother cut out the fuselage and wing because he wants to learn and try stuff. Wing/foam was cut using my DIY Hotwire Foam Cutter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIxyyTnT-hM&list=UUcIbMAd5E6cOaJRuIliW9Lw But an even cheaper way to make a wing is to fold foamboard and use Ed's style from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=karr67ZYho4 Building materials =$5 + $10Blue Wonder Motor + $10 ESC +Radio System + 2 $5 9gram servos.

This is the first day of flying my custom built slow fly plane. I kinda winged the build and guessed for a lot of stuff so I am very happy with how it turned out. It has a wingspan of 4 foam board sheets long which gives it tons of wing flex. I don't think this one will handle any loops without the wings folding. I tried to keep the weight down to a minimum and I used a modified under cambered airfoil to make it fly very slowly. It weighs less than some of my other park flyer aircraft and it travels very slow so it's okay to fly carefully at this field when people are not around. On board Runcam Camera Footage: https://youtu.be/uBYFS0FYvaI EDIT: I made a second version which is a triplane. It uses lighter foam and a lighter battery and motor. It is significantly slower than this one. I have had difficulty storing it and it has been damaged significantly already in the garage. It has gone out for 2 test flights and has performed very nicely. Hopefully I can film it sometime to upload a video.

Let's build an airplane that has no definite fuselage. An RC flying wing, some people call it zagi wing but it's the same, these kind of aircraft are very unstable and need a special airfoil to help have a stable flight, so CG is critical as well to help, I struggled a bit balancing and experimenting with it and its stability, but in the end I managed to have a decent stable flight. The simple glider is a, well, very simple build that can be done in under an hour, and produces hours of fun for next to nothing! The only materials needed are hot glue, tape, a couple of pennies, and of course, foam board. Review video https://youtu.be/Y7wvNxPWsJs I don't have digital plans for this model yet but the center section of the wing is a 8" by 3 1/8" and the wingtips are 4" by 3 1/8". The horizontal stabilizer is 2" by 5". Finally the fuse length is 10". You can experiment with fuse designs, but this video it will give you a basic design of the fuse I used and had success with. My friend had me maiden/trim his new scratch built plane. He enjoys modifying and making his own designs. The foam used is $1 per sheet material from the Dollar Store (two sheets). He made his own wood motor mount. The other electronics he had from an old plane. The Lipo is a 6yr old 3S 2200 Nanotech that I gave him (can fit 3 more batteries easily). It flew awesome.
