If you reach for a bottle of Tylenol when you come down with a fever, you'll actually prolong your illness, make yourself more susceptible to infection, and increase your chances of passing on your illness to others. In this video we look at the science behind the use of antipyretic drugs like Tylenol (acetaminophen), Advil (ibuprofen), and aspirin for suppressing fevers, and how they can impair your body's immune response. We'll Talk About: 1) What happens when critically ill patients with fevers are randomized into either a fever suppressing treatment or no fever treatment at all? Which group has more survivors and infections? 2) What happens when children with chicken pocks are given antipyretics? 3) What happens when adult volunteers injected with rhinovirus or influenza are given these drugs? Check out this video to learn more about the science of fighting fevers. Help us caption & translate this video! http://amara.org/v/H5I1/

This week Reactions is looking at the science and chemistry behind Tylenol. Acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol™, is one of the most popular pain relievers in the world, selling more than 27 billion doses in 2009 alone. It can reduce fevers, eliminate aches and pains and relieve cough and cold symptoms. But how does it work? The truth is, no one knows exactly. This week, Reactions examines the theories about the popular pill. You mentioned that you're nursing a baby, and you have a cold, and you're wondering what you can drink or do to support yourself through this. I'm sorry to hear that you're not feeling well, and generally speaking, colds last about 7 to 10 days, so hopefully you're on the downslope and you start to feel better soon. But in the meantime, there are a couple of things you can do. The most important things to do are to get plenty of rest and to stay well-hydrated. So drink a lot of water. And if you're looking for something that's a little soothing, you can get some hot lemon water and add a little bit of honey, and sip it. And that can be very soothing. Another thing you can try is a hot shower. Just sit in there for a few minutes and inhale all of the warm steam, and that will moisturize your nasal passages and make it a little bit easier to breathe. When it comes to over-the-counter medications, it's always best to check with your pediatrician first and make sure that they're safe while nursing. Many of them are safe for you and the baby, but there are certain ingredients in decongestants, specifically pseudoephedrine, that can cause your milk supply to dry up or to decrease. So again, talk with your pediatrician. They can help you decide what you should take and what you shouldn't take. I hope you feel better soon, and if you have any other questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/IntermountainMoms, and recommend us to your friends and family too.

Lean is the name of a codeine-based drink that has become popular within some strands of hip hop culture in the US - and now it has made its way to Bristol. It is made with prescribed codeine-based cough syrup, but, when mixed with alcohol and other drugs like Xanax, it poses an extreme overdose risk. Here, Drugsland highlights the dangers of Lean, as well as meeting some musicians from Bristol who consume the drink. -- Click here to subscribe to BBC Three: http://bit.ly/BBC-Three-Subscribe Did you know that we’re up to other things in other places too? My daughter and my husband both started having flu symptoms so my mom reminded me of the onion in the sock home remedy. I jumped on Pinterest and read a few different ones. I had a yellow onion but they recommend a white onion. Anyhow, I cut the ends off to use on my daughter so that it didn't get too messy. She had the aches, her throat was hurting and her temperature went up to 104. Around 1 am she had only dropped down .1 degree so I must admit that I got scared and gave her Tylenol. But my husband never took any medicine and when they woke up, they were both perfectly fine!!!! That sure beats taking a trip to the emergency room, visiting a doctor and paying all that money and then having to get a prescription! We paid less than a dollar for one onion and all is well in less than 24 hours! I'm a believer... (For those who say, BUT YOU GAVE HER TYLENOL!) you are right, I did, but we all know that Tylenol only covers the symptoms! I would have had to keep giving her Tylenol if I hadn't used the onion. Well, I hope this works for you too...

Codeine is an opioid found naturally in Papaver somniferum, the opium poppy. It's somewhat misleading to call it an opioid since codeine primarily functions as a prodrug, offering little of its own activity. Morphine seems to be its primary active metabolite. The drug is typically a controlled substance, yet it may also be available over-the-counter (OTC) in certain combinations. Its name comes from the Greek word "kodeia," which means "poppy head." Medically, codeine is used as an analgesic, antitussive, and antidiarrheal. It's also taken recreationally, often at higher doses. ALLERGY RELIEF Tea: https://youtu.be/ihePYDVItPc SLEEP REMEDY TEA: https://youtu.be/_bo8UNfmGHY SUBSCRIBE for more Lifestyle Vids: http://bit.ly/WatchHoneysuckle INSTAGRAM Follow me: http://instagram.com/honeysucklecatering BLOG: http://www.honeysucklecatering.com/ As the weather turns colder I am more prone to getting sick with a bad cold or flu. So I often make this Honey Citron Turmeric Tea to help me feel better. It tastes so much better than the drugstore cough syrup and it really works! I’ll explain how but in the meantime be sure to follow me on Snapchat at HoneysuckleBee and on instagram at HoneysuckleCatering to follow my behind-the-scenes snaps. Honey Ginger Turmeric Citrus Wellness Tea Recipe (30 servings): - 2 Lemons - 1 Orange - 2 inches Ginger Root - 1 Tbsp Turmeric - 1 cup Raw Honey I’m using 2 small lemons that i’ll thinly slice and add to a bowl. I’ll be sure to take the seeds out though cause I don’t want any of that in the tea. The citrus in this recipe is loaded with vitamin C, which is known to support the body’s natural defenses. Lemon and its juice is known to decreases the strength of the flu and the cold virus and it also reduces phlegm. Then I’ll take a whole orange and thinly slice it then I’ll add it to my bowl. I’m leaving the rind on because that’s where all the natural oil are and it will really help flavor the tea later. Orange boosts immunity. Next, I have a knob of ginger about 2 inches long that I’ll peel. Then in my mortar and pestle I’ll grind it up and add it into the bowl. The ginger will soothe your scratchy throat after coughing. My next ingredient is slightly unusual but super powerful. I’m adding in 1 tbsp of turmeric. Turmeric is a spice that can be found in most grocery stores but it’s been used in ancient Ayurvedic and Chinese medicines to clear infection and inflammation. Feel free to adjust the turmeric based on your preference. It can be quite strong. Finally i’m adding 1 cup of raw, organic honey. Raw organic honey is minimally processed and contains many nutrients. It’s like liquid gold that helps with that incessant coughing, and it really helps with sleeping. It contains tryptophan so this is great to get some rest! Once i’ve added all the ingredients together, I’ll give it a good mix and store it in a jar. The honey will draw out the liquid from the citrus and it’ll become very syrupy. I first experienced homemade healing tea when I was really sick and my mom made me this concoction of lemon, rosemary, and honey. Rosemary has its own medicinal properties for coughing but I really wanted to use Ginger and Turmeric so I came up with this recipe. Whenever I’m not feeling well I’ll take a heaping tablespoon of this tea mixture and add it into a cup of hot water. Not only does it taste great, I can feel the honey coating my throat making me feel better. Have you guys tried a homemade remedy tea like this? How has it worked for you? Comment below and don’t forget to subscribe. Thanks for watching and cheers to a happy and healthy new year. Bye! Making things Fun, Pretty, and Delicious! If you like my video then do subscribe to my channel. Please leave me a comment for any tips you want and give a thumbs up. Follow Body and Beauty: https://www.facebook.com/BodyandBeauty11/ Many babies will have cold during their first few months of life, and the average baby will have atleast 8 to10 colds before their first birthday. Colds affect your baby's upper respiratory tract, causing a runny nose, nasal congestion and a sore throat. Unless pneumonia or another complication develops, colds are generally mild and clear up within 10 days. Babies under the age of 6 months, however, have very weak immune systems and so are more vulnerable to potentially serious complications. you want baby to feel better, but what should you do? Here are some ways that are recommended by doctor: Try saline drops in the nose to moisten the mucus and make it easier to remove. Treat mild fevers with acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Encourage the baby to take plenty of fluids (meaning breastfeeding as often as possible for a young baby, and perhaps adding water or diluted juice for a baby on solid foods or formula) and to rest. Use a cool mist humidifier to help baby with a stuffy nose, but be sure to wash and dry it thoroughly each day to prevent contamination from bacteria and mould. Giving your baby a warm bath or sitting with her in the bathroom while the shower runs can also help soften the mucus in her nose. Raising the crib mattress (by putting something underneath it, not by using a pillow under the baby) so that the baby’s head is higher than his body may also help him sleep more comfortably. If your baby has a lot of mucus in his nose, it may help to soften it with saline drops, then use a suction bulb to remove it. But when the baby has soft-tissue swelling in his nose, the suctioning is likely to irritate the tissue and make things worse, so be gentle. Pay attention as well to how long the cold is lasting. “Colds are caused by viruses,” . “They run their course in five to seven days. But children can start off with colds and end up with bacterial infections that definitely require treatment. If your child’s cold symptoms last longer than 10 days, be sure to see the doctor.” And you might want to keep this article and list of suggested treatments handy: Expert doctor says even healthy children can get eight to 12 colds a year. See a doctor if your baby has a cold and: is under three months is having trouble breathing is not eating or drinking seems lethargic and sleepy has a persistent fever over 38.5°C /101.3°F (rectal) has a persistent wet cough An ounce of prevention Since cold viruses are highly contagious, keeping your baby away from people with colds is the most effective way to prevent infection. Of course, this isn’t easy when it’s your own toddler who is coughing and sneezing near your new baby. Parents—and anyone else who comes in contact with your little one— also wash their hands frequently as this is the most common method of transmission.

For more info: https://draxe.com/sore-throat-remedies-fast-relief/?utm_campaign=Youtube-Jan-2015&utm_medium=social&utm_source=youtube&utm_term=sorethroat In this video I’m going to share with you my top natural remedies to get rid of a sore throat. There are four main items that can help you kick a sore throat very fast. The first product that can help ease your throat is olive leaf extract, which can kill off any bad bacteria and fungus in your body as well as function as an anti-viral. Secondly, colloidal silver is great for a sore throat because it has powerful anti-bacterial and anti-viral activity in it. My favorite way to use colloidal silver is through a throat spray. I would recommend using it every 30 minutes if needed. Sea salt is the third ingredient I would recommend because it has natural soothing effects to the throat when consumed, which naturally treats a sore throat. Start with mixing sea salt and water and gargling this mixture three times a day. Lastly, using essential oils like lemon, oregano, and peppermint will help your sore throat. These three oils are the most effective oils for treating a sore throat. You could also add these oils to your throat spray to make it even more powerful. In addition to these four natural remedies, getting plenty of rest and consuming a nutritional diet are important. Sleeping 8 + hours is vital to helping your immune system fight your virus and consuming a lot of fruits and vegetables, bone broth, and avoiding sugars and grains will help you overcome your sore throat fast. *This content is strictly the opinion of Dr. Josh Axe, and is for informational and educational purposes only. Your stomach is like a muscle. When it's filled with large meals three times a day, the dispensability (amount your stomach walls can stretch) increases. When you head in the other direction - eating many small meals throughout the day - your stomach's capacity goes down. Intermittent fasting will make you eat fewer meals, resulting in your stomach shrinking and less caloric intake. People will indulge in a less than healthy meal and feel overly full after – don’t have room for veggies as stomach shrinks. Less Calories: Most people who try intermittent fasting end up cutting weight. You might plan big meals, but consistently eating them is difficult in practice. Even if you tell people that they can eat two large meals at lunch and dinner, they typically end up eating fewer calories than they would at 3 or 4 normal meals. Most people lose weight while intermittent fasting because when they cut out meals, they don't make up for it with bigger meal sizes. Even if you tell people that they can eat two large meals at lunch and dinner, they typically end up eating fewer calories than they would at 3 or 4 normal meals. Creamer: A “fasted state” is merely a definition of a specific metabolic state — no food (calories) whatsoever in the gut. Any food or drink with a caloric value will cause a spike in insulin because insulin is the hormone that regulates whether you store fat or release it. In a fasting state, the metabolism draws a significant amount of its energy from stored fat, any small amount of calories coming in (cream in your coffee, for example) would nudge the body away from metabolizing fat until those calories are used up. Also breaking the long term effects of a fast. By maintaining low levels of insulin throughout your fast, you ensure that the body has a chance to release — and use — fat stores. Enough calories would elicit enough insulin that fat metabolism would diminish, since insulin discourages lipolysis (2) BCAAs: A 2011 study, from the Journal of Nutrition, looked at the effects of branched-chain amino acid supplementation on plasma concentrations of free amino acids, insulin, and energy substrates in a group of men aged 22-25. On the first day, the participants arrived at the laboratory after an overnight fast. A baseline blood samples was acquired and then the subjects consumed the beverage with 1 g of BCAAs. Seven additional blood samples were acquired during the subsequent 3 hrs. Five days later, the same participants repeated the procedure with a beverage containing 5 g BCAAs. Found that plasma insulin levels transiently spiked after BCAA ingestion and spikes in insulin can be detrimental when fasting – halts the fat burnings effect (1) Study Links: For BCAA study: Full Study (Journal of Nutrition): http://jn.nutrition.org/content/136/1/324S.full Summarized versions: http://easacademy.org/research-news/article/effects-of-branched-chain-amino-acid-supplementation-on-plasma-concentrations-of-free-amino-acids-i https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21512300 Drinking Enough Water: When fasting, your body goes through a process known as apoptosis where your body doesn’t have to digest food, so it begins getting rid of dead or broken cells. Without enough water, your body is unable to transport and excrete what it needs to. On top of that, the majority of your energy needs are being supplied by breaking down fat stores during the fast . Fat is the storage site for most toxins your body encounters, and releasing a bunch of this fat will also release a bunch of toxins in your bloodstream. Mineral Consumption: Adding the right kind of salt, in the form of sea salt, to your diet during your fasting eating period is important when reducing caloric intake because every structure and function of the body needs minerals to function properly. If you're a nursing mother and have questions about what medications are safe to take while nursing, including over-the-counter medication, prescription medications, and herbal supplements, call your baby's pediatrician and talk with them first before taking it. While many medications are safe while breastfeeding, there are some that can be harmful to a mother or her baby, and the concerns that we have about medication are different while a mother is nursing versus when she was pregnant. And the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that a woman always take the smallest amount possible and the lowest dose possible to achieve the necessary outcome, and to only take medication when it's necessary. In addition to calling your baby's pediatrician, you can also check out LactMed (https://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/newtoxnet/lactmed.htm), which is a database full of information that we do know about medication safety while nursing. If you have more questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/IntermountainMoms, and recommend us to your friends and family too.

Josh is sick. He's really sick. He actually had to cancel classes that day because he just couldn't make it through the day. Check out some of his symptoms and solutions for the common cold! TRANSCRIPT IN ENGLISH: INTRO This day One English teacher will tell you how he feels So you will be able to tell others how you feel VIDEO There is not a whole lot to say on days like this. If you can hear my voice, you can see I'm a little bit under the weather, to use an expression. I am feeling like crap. I'm sick. I got a fever. Cough-cough-cough. I have a terrible cough. It's a deep, lung-splitting cough. It's a cough that splits my lungs. It's a lung-splitting cough. There is a compound adjective for you to compound my problems. Congested nose. My ears are stuffed. I'm bald. S-I-C-K as a dog. I'm sweating. I'm a mess. Oh, yeah. Before I forget, a lot of my viewers want to see a preview of the next video. Here it is! I've got a runny nose, runny eyes, a sore throat. It hurts to swallow. I'm pushing through. I'm overcoming adversity; overcoming viruses and bacterias and internal attacks on my immune system. And hopefully I won't make all of my students sick too. And then I'll be out of a job for a couple of weeks. And I have to shave too. What do you do? How do you get better? But, how do you get better? How do you get better? Time. Time heals all. Time will tell. They say, I guess. Hopefully. We'll see. What kinds of things do you do to make yourself feel better? Well, you can take some medicine. Maybe some Tylenol, some aspirin, some acetaphetamine. I think that's what they call it. You can rest, lay down in bed, eat chicken soup. But, really, basically, the only thing you can do is give it some time, and it should heal itself; your body should heal itself and you'll get better. But it's awful. I feel, like... I feel just... like, bad. Seriously?

Sorry for the not so great video quality, I couldn't download the video to YouTube any other way so.. Anyways, this is the video of my Smartclip braces process of getting them on. I suggest taking Tylenol before getting them put on because they will be pretty sore afterwards. You know that feeling when you're eating popcorn and a kernel gets stuck in between your teeth? Well it feels similar to that but on every tooth. Pretty tight. xD It's been a day after I got them put on and they're already feeling less sore then yesterday. ALSO if your gums are sore then use ice and just rub it over the area, it will numb it and help with the inflammation. Cold water can work too. If you guys have any questions then feel free to comment and I'll answer as soon as possible, subscribe if you want to see my updates and yeah! Till my next video, bye guys. :)) _______________________________ I own nothing shown in this video, everything goes to it's rightful owners. If your earache is further reduced or if extremely painful to the point where you can not concentrate on anything else, it is a good idea to pay your doctor a visit. That said, here are some things you can try at home. Ear infection treatment 1 Apply heat This can be done through a number of ways. Regardless of how, heat can relieve pain. Just be careful not to burn! 2 Take Tylenol or ibuprofen This is a general pain reliever will make the real ear pain disappears, but will make the pain subside. And in a few minutes, too. 3 Use olive or baby oil Although it may seem strange, olive or baby oil can be a useful substitute for eardrops. They are lubricants and can help ease your pain. 4 Be creative with garlic Almost all the garlic-and is considered by someone to help with earaches. If you have any shape, consider using it. 5 Use the remaining onions in the fridge Other vegetables to the rescue! Cut the onion, squash, and tightly wrapped in a clean, thin cloth. Lay beside her, holding the wrap around your ear. 6 Try basil or mint These are the herbal remedies really. It is therefore necessary to extract the juices. This involves crushing and exposing them to a little heat. However, peppermint oil must be applied around the ear, while the basil juice can be applied in the ear. 7 The use of aromatherapy Although it may sound a little hooky, some people swear by it. Dilute an essential oil (such as lavender oil) in a little olive oil and rub it on the outside of the affected ear and down the neck lymph nodes around. 8 Get antibiotics If just not going to disappear on its own, or is accompanied by other symptoms or you are just plain out in a lot of pain, consult your doctor. 9 Determine if it is due to the accumulation of mucus Coughing and nose blowing can irritate the inner ear, ultimately ending in an earache. 10 Whether the earwax is the cause Although it is there for your benefit, too much can lead to earaches. If earwax is the problem, the doctor will be able to take care of it for you.
