If you reach for a bottle of Tylenol when you come down with a fever, you'll actually prolong your illness, make yourself more susceptible to infection, and increase your chances of passing on your illness to others. In this video we look at the science behind the use of antipyretic drugs like Tylenol (acetaminophen), Advil (ibuprofen), and aspirin for suppressing fevers, and how they can impair your body's immune response. We'll Talk About: 1) What happens when critically ill patients with fevers are randomized into either a fever suppressing treatment or no fever treatment at all? Which group has more survivors and infections? 2) What happens when children with chicken pocks are given antipyretics? 3) What happens when adult volunteers injected with rhinovirus or influenza are given these drugs? Check out this video to learn more about the science of fighting fevers. Help us caption & translate this video! http://amara.org/v/H5I1/

Lean is the name of a codeine-based drink that has become popular within some strands of hip hop culture in the US - and now it has made its way to Bristol. It is made with prescribed codeine-based cough syrup, but, when mixed with alcohol and other drugs like Xanax, it poses an extreme overdose risk. Here, Drugsland highlights the dangers of Lean, as well as meeting some musicians from Bristol who consume the drink. -- Click here to subscribe to BBC Three: http://bit.ly/BBC-Three-Subscribe Did you know that we’re up to other things in other places too? My daughter and my husband both started having flu symptoms so my mom reminded me of the onion in the sock home remedy. I jumped on Pinterest and read a few different ones. I had a yellow onion but they recommend a white onion. Anyhow, I cut the ends off to use on my daughter so that it didn't get too messy. She had the aches, her throat was hurting and her temperature went up to 104. Around 1 am she had only dropped down .1 degree so I must admit that I got scared and gave her Tylenol. But my husband never took any medicine and when they woke up, they were both perfectly fine!!!! That sure beats taking a trip to the emergency room, visiting a doctor and paying all that money and then having to get a prescription! We paid less than a dollar for one onion and all is well in less than 24 hours! I'm a believer... (For those who say, BUT YOU GAVE HER TYLENOL!) you are right, I did, but we all know that Tylenol only covers the symptoms! I would have had to keep giving her Tylenol if I hadn't used the onion. Well, I hope this works for you too...

Codeine is an opioid found naturally in Papaver somniferum, the opium poppy. It's somewhat misleading to call it an opioid since codeine primarily functions as a prodrug, offering little of its own activity. Morphine seems to be its primary active metabolite. The drug is typically a controlled substance, yet it may also be available over-the-counter (OTC) in certain combinations. Its name comes from the Greek word "kodeia," which means "poppy head." Medically, codeine is used as an analgesic, antitussive, and antidiarrheal. It's also taken recreationally, often at higher doses. Braces Explained: Pain Management In this video, I will be answer the question of "how to deal with orthodontic pain?" I start off by describing that orthodontic pain can be divided into two categories: 1] dental, which is the pain related to your teeth and 2] soft tissue, which is the pain related to your gums/cheeks To manage dental pain, I recommend doing everything you can to decrease inflammation. This includes eating soft food and keeping your mouth as cold as possible by eating cold foods. Also, anti-inflammatory medication can be used but they do slow down tooth movement. Tylenol is a great alternative for decreasing the pain and not having any impact on tooth movement! I recommend taking Tylenol or some anti-inflammatory one hour before your adjustments that way by the time we perform the necessary adjustments, your body has already absorbed the medication! To manage soft tissue pain, which is caused by the braces irritating your gums/cheeks, you can use a number of things. Wax is the most commonly provided item by orthodontist and can be used to make braces smoother and push your cheeks away from your teeth and allow for your cheeks to hurt. Also, you can use a topical anesthetic (link below) to numb up your cheek until the pain goes away. To do this, just dry the area of your mouth and put just a bit of anesthetic in the area until the pain goes away. Lastly, you have got to keep your teeth clean. When your gums get inflamed, they become puffy and more food gets stuck, the brackets become more irritated. This is a vicious cycle so please please please make sure to brush and floss to make sure your teeth stay healthy! If you're a nursing mother and have questions about what medications are safe to take while nursing, including over-the-counter medication, prescription medications, and herbal supplements, call your baby's pediatrician and talk with them first before taking it. While many medications are safe while breastfeeding, there are some that can be harmful to a mother or her baby, and the concerns that we have about medication are different while a mother is nursing versus when she was pregnant. And the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that a woman always take the smallest amount possible and the lowest dose possible to achieve the necessary outcome, and to only take medication when it's necessary. In addition to calling your baby's pediatrician, you can also check out LactMed (https://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/newtoxnet/lactmed.htm), which is a database full of information that we do know about medication safety while nursing. If you have more questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/IntermountainMoms, and recommend us to your friends and family too.

http://voc.tv/1l7rWdv In the United States today, more than 12 million people abuse opioid prescription drugs like like Oxycontin and Oxycodone. Vocativ got access to two Oxy users who are at the heart of the epidemic, and they allowed us to film as they smoked pills and discussed their addiction. Users Nalu and Jango talk candidly about why they started on oxy, and describe the physical effects of using this opiate substitute. Oxy is colloquially called "hillbilly heroin" because of its high abuse rate in poor Appalachian communities. In actuality, it is a very expensive drug to use. Many oxy addicts eventually turn to actual heroin since it's cheaper to procure. The higher Nalu and Jango get, the more detail they divulge about the extremes they go to for the money to feed their expensive habit. Both men tell us they hope to eventually quit, but with few resources and a powerful physical addiction to kick, their futures seem unclear. Reducing the fever takes a little bit more. Warning Consult your doctor before giving a baby any medication. Step 1: Reduce the fever Reduce the baby's fever by giving them a bath or sponging them down with lukewarm water. Step 2: Stay hydrated Keep the baby hydrated by giving them plenty of water, breast milk, or formula. Step 3: Avoid overdressing Avoid overdressing or bundling them up before they go to sleep. Step 4: Give them medicine Give your baby ibuprofen or acetaminophen to reduce a fever only if recommended by your doctor. Tip Measure all medication with an oral syringe to make sure the right dosage is given. Consult your baby's pediatrician if you're unsure. Step 5: Call a doctor Call your doctor if your baby's temperature rises above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit, if they lose their appetite, look pale or flushed, or are unusually irritable. A doctor is always on call to answer your questions. Did You Know? Most people's body temperatures change throughout the day. They are usually cooler in the morning and warmer in the evening.

For more info: https://draxe.com/sore-throat-remedies-fast-relief/?utm_campaign=Youtube-Jan-2015&utm_medium=social&utm_source=youtube&utm_term=sorethroat In this video I’m going to share with you my top natural remedies to get rid of a sore throat. There are four main items that can help you kick a sore throat very fast. The first product that can help ease your throat is olive leaf extract, which can kill off any bad bacteria and fungus in your body as well as function as an anti-viral. Secondly, colloidal silver is great for a sore throat because it has powerful anti-bacterial and anti-viral activity in it. My favorite way to use colloidal silver is through a throat spray. I would recommend using it every 30 minutes if needed. Sea salt is the third ingredient I would recommend because it has natural soothing effects to the throat when consumed, which naturally treats a sore throat. Start with mixing sea salt and water and gargling this mixture three times a day. Lastly, using essential oils like lemon, oregano, and peppermint will help your sore throat. These three oils are the most effective oils for treating a sore throat. You could also add these oils to your throat spray to make it even more powerful. In addition to these four natural remedies, getting plenty of rest and consuming a nutritional diet are important. Sleeping 8 + hours is vital to helping your immune system fight your virus and consuming a lot of fruits and vegetables, bone broth, and avoiding sugars and grains will help you overcome your sore throat fast. *This content is strictly the opinion of Dr. Josh Axe, and is for informational and educational purposes only. It can be extremely challenging to know when your cat is in pain. Cats hide their pain very well - it stems from their origins and their survival instincts. In the wild, a sick or injured animal is vulnerable to attack so survival can depend on the animal's ability to act like everything is fine even when something is terribly wrong. Fortunately, there are some signs you can look out for that indicate possible pain: 1. Mobility changes and hiding. Cats experiencing pain often move around less and hide; 2. Changes in grooming habits. You may notice an overall decreased amount of self-grooming in cat experiencing pain; 3. Bathroom changes - cat that stopped using a litter box could be in pain; 4. Loss of appetite. Cats in pain often eat and drink less; 5. Sleeping a lot more and/or sleeping in only one position; 6. Changes in vocalisation; 7. Changes in personality, overall irritability and crankiness. Don't ever give cats human painkillers! Cat metabolise drugs differently than most other species, so human painkillers can be toxic to cats unless they are given in the proper does and at the proper intervals. While some pain is related to pain or injury that can be treated and resolved, in older cats the pain is often related to a chronic condition, such as arthritis. Pain in cats can be caused by illness, disease, debilitating condition, injury, surgery, infection, inflammation etc. The general rule is - if it is painful for you, it is painful for your cat!
