Adopted at Bijli Vikalp Sangam at Bodh Gaya, Bihar, March 2016 There are several serious social, environmental, technical, and economic issues with implications for future generations, if the business-as-usual approach continues. We acknowledge that future energy scenarios must factor in realities such as limited natural resources, accelerated environmental degradation, growing populations, climate change, and high energy poverty. Roughly two thirds of India’s population do not enjoy energy security. About a quarter of India’s population has no access to any source of electricity despite a massive increase, of more than 200 times, in power generation capacity since Independence. Many of those with access suffer from erratic supply. The fact that Delhi’s per capita electricity consumption is more than 10 times that of Bihar is representative of the inequity in consumption in the country. Our continuing reliance on large centralized power generation, through conventional sources, will continue to exacerbate climate change impacts, displacement, biodiversity loss, water stress, destruction of forests, and pollution of air, land, water and sea. This commodification of our commons will further compromise our energy security and undermine the universal right to energy, including electricity. There is increasing evidence that nuclear power is neither clean, affordable, nor safe; coal power is not only dirty, but also adds greatly to our carbon footprint; and large hydro is massively destructive. Therefore none of these can be long term solutions for our country. The government, in its recent policies, has announced fairly ambitious targets for renewable energy, although much of it is centralized and corporate controlled. However, there are worrying indications of significantly expanding coal, nuclear and large hydro. While the grid is a reality of present day electricity access, a far more democratic and decentralized governance of the grid becomes an imperative. Unlimited growth and consumerist culture is incompatible with a finite world. We call for an urgent paradigm shift, from the currently dominant model of consumption-led development, to creating frameworks of human and ecological well being. This transition should be defined by the principles of sustainability, equity, and justice. This requires special attention to the needs of the most marginalized, including women, Dalits, Adivasis, small & marginalised farmers and particularly vulnerable tribal groups. Therefore, with respect to the electricity sector, we call for action on policies and practices to: Mainstream and prioritize renewable energy to meet all future electricity needs. This should include decentralized solutions including micro grids, stand alone systems etc. According to a UN report, this will also help in creating more green jobs than the conventional sector. Direct investments towards the above objectives Focus on ensuring sustainable, universal access to electricity, which is affordable. This will require a redistribution of available electricity, equitably, to facilitate a good quality of life Build consensus for a new energy paradigm driven by social and individual responsibility, to limit our energy consumption and make lifestyle changes, that are consistent with shrinking planetary resources Ensure that the new imperatives are integrated into all appropriate educational and skill development activities Improve efficiency of existing electricity infrastructure to match global best standards Prioritize demand side management and energy conservation, particularly of large energy guzzling sectors Develop a time bound transition plan to phase out coal and nuclear, while ensuring displaced workers are appropriately re-skilled and re-employed. No construction of large new hydro plants. True cost of renewables and energy efficiency is much lower when compared to the total cost including social, environmental costs of nuclear, coal and large hydro Make cumulative, sectoral, social and environmental Impact Assessment compulsory for all power projects including renewables. Technological and innovative transitions will be necessary across all sectors. These must take place through fair and equitable processes that avoid lock in. Though technology will play a role, solutions for society should not be techno-centric. Implement comprehensive cost benefit and options analysis, including externalities for any power related decision making Mandate free, prior, and informed consent of all concerned communities before initiating any power project The search for solutions should be guided by principles of direct, radical, and ecological democracy in which citizens, including the marginalized, are involved in decision making. This also requires providing mechanism and spaces for such direct citizens’ involvement.

A key focus for the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning’s (DELWP) Barwon South West Region has been to facilitate stakeholder input into strategic bushfire management planning through the establishment of stakeholder advisory and reference groups. Key to this has been engagement that considers a long term, strategic vision and direction, with a focus on developing fuel management strategies that better consider the range of values and interests at risk from bushfire. The Barwon-Otway bushfire risk landscape team convened a Bushfire Strategy Advisory Group (BSAG) to facilitate stakeholder input into the Strategic Bushfire Risk Assessment & Strategy Selection (SBRASS) project from late 2013 to mid-2015. As part of the project, the Advisory Group identified a range of options to manage bushfire risk, and values of interest that may be positively or negatively impacted by bushfire. The Advisory Group then participated in a structured decision making process to identify their preferred management strategies, the outcomes of which can now be used to inform the development of future fuel management strategies that reflect stakeholder aspirations and values of importance. In this video, DELWP Analysis and Monitoring Team Leader (Barwon-Otway) Tim Gazzard, Forrest Neighborhood House’s Gillian Brew, Parks Victoria’s Kate McMahon, and Surf Coast Shire’s Peter Ashton discuss the importance of engaging to better understand community values, increase people’s understanding of bushfire risk, and take a more integrated approach to bushfire fuel management.
Cities see great opportunities in the newest lighting technologies to embark on the transition towards energy savings and cost reduction, and at the same time contribute to other values such as city marketing or economical development. Visionary cities also see opportunities for societal challenges to drive new lighting innovations. However, the challenge for cities is to make the right investment decision keeping in mind costs, sustainability and societal impact on the short and longer term, that extends beyond public lighting alone. LightHouse developed an approach to create a vision and roadmap to support short-term decisions that will enable further development in the future and applied it in the city of Eindhoven. First of all a vision is created, involving insights from the quadruple helix. Interviews are held with thought leaders from industry, knowledge institutes and government to select and interpret trends that are most relevant and have the highest impact on a liveable city in 2030. An analysis of these rich interview data reveals three drivers for change. The first driver is the growing influence of information. To allow this driver to develop in the direction of a positive society, an ethical recalibration is a prerequisite, in which also a code of conduct is designed. The second driver, the changing perception of value, requires an economic recalibration, in which new forms of value beyond money are included. The third driver, the growing potential of people, asks for a social recalibration and redefinition of the city to a creative hot spot. Eindhoven aspires to be a front-runner in innovative intelligent lighting solutions that contribute to a high quality of life in the city. Combining this aspiration with the drivers for change leads to a desired scenario for Eindhoven in 2030 in which a smart lighting grid is provided as public utility. In this way the city creates space to co-design and test with citizens, to redesign public space into an extended living space instead of a traveling area. For instance with lighting solutions such as made-to-measure light that travels with you, or traffic safety features. To realise this future scenario, a roadmap was made together with the quadruple helix to plot the possible technological developments together with the corresponding timeline. Lighting technologies will evolve from a focus on technical performance improvement to adaptive and invisible systems. Technologies for smart cities evolve from a focus on infrastructure smart city systems including public lighting. The roadmap discussions also reveal required organisational changes: the changing role of the council from a lead user to a full partner in the quadruple helix. The roadmap connects technological options to societal drivers that determine the quality of life. At the short term a flexible smart lighting infrastructure needs to be implemented. The municipality will need to guard the public interest by ensuring openness on all levels of the system architecture. Last but not least, living labs are created where continuous innovation in the quadruple helix takes place. In this way the city becomes a creative hotspot where societal challenges drive new lighting innovations. What should the initial staff requirements of your new multilevel marketing company look like? I consult with a lot of different companies that are usually start up companies, every week. One of the things that companies are always asking me is, “What should our staffing requirement look like?” Well, if you’re launching a network marketing company, you’re going to wear a lot of different hats. In fact, of the things I’m going to talk about here, most of them you’ll be doing yourself at some point unless you’re well funded. You need to have a National Sales Director If you’re launching a network marketing company it’s probably either because you were successful in another network marketing company, or you saw the model and thought ‘this is a really good method of distribution for our products and services’. Basically, you want to be the salesperson. While I run through these other things you’re going to realize, you can’t be the salesperson you need to find someone who understands your vision, your vision plan and vision statement, where your company is going, and empowers them to be your National Sales Director. Your National Sales Director is responsible for your marketing. recruiting, meetings, events, conference calls and getting your vision about the opportunity and products out to the public. Customer Service Manager You need a Customer Service Manager, NOT an answering machine. Your customer service should not consist of customers calling you and going straight to an answering machine. These days with technology, you can outsource your phones. In fact, we have a company in Colorado that we outsource to when all of our representatives are on the phone and for about $150 a month, they answer the phones 24 hours a day if we’re not available. Spend a few dollars and give a good impression. Your customer service manager and representatives need to be well spoken and friendly. When they answer the phone, make sure they do it with a smile on their face. You can literally hear the difference in someone’s voice when they smile as they speak. They need to be able to properly manage schedules and have really good time management methodology. They also need to be really familiar with your MLM software and your back office because they’re going to be getting calls from distributors and customers asking a multitude of different questions about it. They need to understand how to set up your products, your enrollment options, work on your menu, pages, content, etc. Compensation Plan Manager Most company owners think that because they designed or decided upon the Compensation Plan, that they’re going to be the Compensation Plan Manager. Here’s the thing, your distributors are never going to call if/when they’re overpaid, but when you start getting distributors calling asking why they didn’t rank up, or receive their commissions, are you going to be the one wearing that hat? Along with all the other hats and tasks that you’re responsible for? You’re the President or the CEO, or Both. You’re not going to have time to do everything. You need a good compensation plan manager that understand the ranks, the requirements, and the rewards for those ranks. That understands how to look at the products and set up the commission value, the bonuses associated with those products, understands how people achieve ranks, be able to look at and determine why someone received a rank or didn’t receive that rank. Most importantly, they need to understand how to run commissions and how to close those commissions and get them paid. Warehouse Products and Service Manager If you’re doing digital products, you’ve probably integrated with 3rd third party for delivery and less concerned about warehousing, but you can’t be the president and answering the phones, and working on the website, and doing the compensation plan, and shipping out the products. Your warehouse manager needs to be able to work with product fulfillment, they need to be able to pull your product sales and data reports, they need to be able to work with the chosen shipper; whether that’s FedEx, UPS, USPS, etc. If you’re working with a 3rd party shipping company, they need to understand that shipping software. The need to be able to confirm most importantly when orders have been picked up or shipped and delivered to your customers and distributors and work with orders and returns. When you reach that point of maturity for a Multi-Level Marketing Company you’re going to have a lot more than just these 4 key people. But as a startup company, you should really be looking for these 4 key roles first. They could be friends, family, investors, they don’t even need to be full-time initially. They can be part-time roles until the job grows and requires someone full tim e.

In this emotional tale of Saul Indian Horse, Richard Wagamese tells the realistic story of a man whose life is drastically changed by one of Canada's most painful histories. When Saul was a child he was taken away from his family and forced into an Indian Residential School where he witnessed and experienced unimaginable abuses at the hands of the school's educators. In spite of the harrowing atrocities, it is at the school that Saul discovers his love of hockey, a game that, for a short time, serves as a means of escape. Saul's talent leads to a draft with a minor league team and a spot on Team Canada during the 1972 Canada-Soviet Summit Series. However, as Saul grows into a man, he struggles with racism and alcohol addiction. Saul's tumultuous adulthood eventually leads him back to his roots, where he confronts his past and begins a new journey towards healing. Richard Wagamese is an Ojibway author from the Wabaseemoong First Nation in Northwestern Ontario. He is the author of several fiction and non-fiction works including For Joshua: An Ojibway Father Teaches His Son, Runaway Dreams, and Indian Horse. Wagamese has also been a journalist and, in 1991, became the first Aboriginal Canadian to receive the National Newspaper Award for Column Writing. His most recent novel, Indian Horse, was chosen as the winner of First Nation Communities Read, and is on the Globe and Mail's bestseller's list as well as the Canadian Booksellers Association's bestseller's list. Among his awards, Wagamese's memoir One Native Life was listed as one of The Globe and Mail's 100 Best Books of 2008. In 2010 he accepted an Honorary Doctor of Letters from Thompson Rivers University. Wagamese currently lives just outside of Kamloops, BC with his wife, Debra Powell, and Molly the Story Dog.

Lockheed Martin, along with UK-based firm Wem Technologies, is reportedly planning to build a new facility for weapons integration for India’s light combat aircraft (LCA) Tejas in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The proposed weapons integration facility will be built in the West Godavari district at a cost of around INR21.35bn ($318m), The Press Trust of India reported. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was quoted by the news agency as saying: "We have decided to allot 350 acres of land for this facility spread over Vatluru and Bhogapuram villages near Eluru in West Godavari district. "In the first phase, they will invest Rs635 crore and provide employment to 650 persons. “In all, 2,510 jobs will be created when the facility becomes fully operational.” The single-seat, single-engine, lightweight, high-agility supersonic fighter aircraft Tejas has been manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the Indian Air Force (IAF). Tejas' night vision compatible glass cockpit features Martin Baker (UK) zero-zero ejection seats. The cockpit also has two colour liquid crystal multifunction displays, a head-up display and a liquid crystal return-to-home-base panel and keyboard. The aircraft can be fitted with air-to-air, air-to-ground and anti-ship mi$$iles, precision-guided munitions, rockets and bombs. Its hardpoints can also carry electronic w@rfare, targeting, surveillance, reconnaissance or training pods. Bono, Director, Defense Health Agency and Sezin Palmer, National Health Mission Area Executive, Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, discussed how different stakeholders are working to improve the interoperability of hospital technologies at South by Southwest 2018 in Austin, Texas. Patients are denied access to simple life-saving techniques purely because the technologies in our hospitals don't work with one another and can't integrate. In addition, the health industry is estimated to lose $750 billion each year because it hasn't solved the problem of interoperability. Several years ago, one of the best hospitals in the world partnered with one of the best systems engineering centers in the world to find a new way forward. We'll share what works and future visions. Brief History of DISA 1960s: The Defense Communications Agency DCA was established May 12, 1960, with the primary mission of operational control and management of the Defense Communications System (DCS). The initial headquarters for 34 DCA members was Wake Hall, one of a complex of three buildings (which included Midway Hall and Guam Hall) on the site where the parking lot of the Robert F. Kennedy Stadium in Washington, D.C., stands today. Navy Rear Admiral William D. Irvin became the first DCA director in July. In September, Rear Admiral Irvin moved his staff to office space in Building 12 at the Naval Services Center, 701 Courthouse Road, Arlington, Va., the site of the U.S. Navy's old Radio Arlington Station. DCA's first major tasks were to identify the DCS elements and develop an implementation and management plan. The DCS was essentially a collection of communications systems turned over by the military departments with considerable restrictions. Key among these responsibilities was the establishment of three common-user, defense-wide networks that would be known as the Automatic Voice Network (AUTOVON), the Automatic Digital Network (AUTODIN), and the Automatic Secure Voice Communications Network (AUTOSEVOCOM). For each, DCA sought to determine its overall system configuration and prepare the technical specifications necessary for the equipment for switching centers, interconnecting transmission media, and subscriber terminals. With the arrival of the space-age, DCA was designated as the "strong focal point" for development, integration, and operation of the space and ground elements of a number of satellite-based communications initiatives. The most important of these would be the DCA-managed Defense Satellite Communications System (DSCS). The Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962 showed the need for direct, timely, and private communications between the leaders of the world's two superpowers, the United States and the Soviet Union. A duplex cable circuit (later augmented by a satellite hookup) between the two capitals known as the Moscow--Washington hotline or "Red Telephone", became operational August 30, 1963. Program management and engineering for the "Hotline" was assigned to DCA. The system continues intact today with direct links to more than 40 foreign leaders. Another direct result of the Cuban Missile Crisis was the creation of the Worldwide Military Command and Control System (WWMCCS) to enable national command authorities to exercise effective command and control of their widely dispersed forces. While DCA dealt with the communication crises of the Cold War, a "hot war" was waging in Southeast Asia. America's commitment to South Vietnam led to the creation of a DCA Southeast Asia Region unit in 1964. DCA developed a plan to integrate the region's communication systems into a single modern network.
