Today, Information Technology and Systems (IT/IS) play a significant role in the business performance. The IT/IS department should analyze and interpret the organization's plan and strategy to be able to design a strategic plan aligned with the objectives and goals established in the organization's plan. This department should also evaluate existing systems and technology and IT infrastructure in order to identify the need for technology solutions and provide recommendations to the company in order to improve its execution and help create new sustainable competitive advantages. Strategic planning provides a theoretical framework, so that managers and executives of organizations can be able to outline the actions to be taken to direct the companies towards the future they envision. It is through strategic planning that executives map out actions and manage resources and human capital, based on a mission and a clear vision of the organization and its destination. In this course, students will learn about the importance of information systems as useful tools that contribute to the achievement of the organization’s objectives and goals and the importance of strategic planning in IT/IS. They will also learn to analyze current technologies and systems, and to identify the needs for improvements or the acquisition of new technology solutions. Global aerospace major Boeing announced its expansion of engineering and technology centre here and said it would accommodate another 1,000 new employees to drive aerospace innovation. The “newest phase” of Boeing India Engineering and Technology Centre (BIETC) inaugurated here yesterday would double the existing footprint and accommodate another 1,000 new employees, who will work on cutting-edge technologies that will drive aerospace innovation from India, Boeing said. The centre has increased its employee count from just 100 when it was inaugurated in early 2017, to over 1,000, the company said in a statement here. As the centre grows over the next few years, it will develop into a team of over 2,500 employees in specialized fields of IT, engineering and R&D, it added. The facility will help Boeing to scale up its aerospace, R&D and engineering activities in its existing facilities, the statement said. The facility will also have an integrated lab for IoT, Analytics and Mobility, a 3DX lab to develop 3D experiences, a Systems Integration Lab and a Proof of Concepts Lab. “Over 25 collaboration areas in the centre will enable teams to develop, scale and deliver aerospace innovations with agility. The facility will also drive strategic initiatives like Digital Transformation,” the statement said. The teams will innovate in digital aviation, electrical, mechanical and systems design and provide support for lab and flight testing for aircraft. The company is also developing skills in the Indian aviation sector by partnering with vocational training institutes, industrial training institutes and its local partners to train workers for the aerospace industry. “The new centre reflects an agile and driven Boeing in India, one that inspires people to collaborate and accelerate step-change innovation,” Boeing India President Pratyush Kumar said. A large group of civil society organizations including experts, energy practitioners, think tanks, peoples’ movements, academics, and entrepreneurs - came together as part of Bijli Vikalp Sangam in Bodh Gaya, between 4th to 6th March 2016. We reflected upon and explored sustainable equitable practices on energy, with a focus on electricity. This was aimed at building a continuing critical dialogue with the state and other stakeholders in order to build a just and equitable energy future. With respect to the electricity sector, we call for action on policies and practices to: Mainstream and prioritize renewable energy to meet all future electricity needs. This should include decentralized solutions including micro grids, stand alone systems etc. According to a UN report, this will also help in creating more green jobs than the conventional sector. Direct investments towards the above objectives Focus on ensuring sustainable, universal access to electricity, which is affordable. This will require a redistribution of available electricity, equitably, to facilitate a good quality of life Build consensus for a new energy paradigm driven by social and individual responsibility, to limit our energy consumption and make lifestyle changes, that are consistent with shrinking planetary resources Ensure that the new imperatives are integrated into all appropriate educational and skill development activities Improve efficiency of existing electricity infrastructure to match global best standards Prioritize demand side management and energy conservation, particularly of large energy guzzling sectors Develop a time bound transition plan to phase out coal and nuclear, while ensuring displaced workers are appropriately re-skilled and re-employed. No construction of large new hydro plants. True cost of renewables and energy efficiency is much lower when compared to the total cost including social, environmental costs of nuclear, coal and large hydro Make cumulative, sectoral, social and environmental Impact Assessment compulsory for all power projects including renewables. Technological and innovative transitions will be necessary across all sectors. These must take place through fair and equitable processes that avoid lock in. Though technology will play a role, solutions for society should not be techno-centric. Implement comprehensive cost benefit and options analysis, including externalities for any power related decision making Mandate free, prior, and informed consent of all concerned communities before initiating any power project The search for solutions should be guided by principles of direct, radical, and ecological democracy in which citizens, including the marginalized, are involved in decision making. This also requires providing mechanism and spaces for such direct citizens’ involvement. We resolve to take this message to a nationwide audience. This group looks forward to constructive engagement with the decision making process of public policy.

The future of the University of Wyoming is being driven by three Initiatives currently underway that will shape the look and culture on campus. Learn more about how the Top-Tier Science Initiative, Tier-1 Engineering Initiative and Trustees Education Initiative is going to impact UW and the state of Wyoming. The UW Science Initiative began in 2014 when Governor Mead and the Wyoming Legislature challenged the University of Wyoming to develop a plan to address outdated science laboratories at UW and improve the quality of instruction and research in the sciences. A task force, appointed by Governor Mead and informed by faculty representatives, developed a transformational vision for UW's core science programs in Botany, Zoology & Physiology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, and Physics & Astronomy. The developed plan charts a clear course for these science programs to rise to top-tier status in the nation and builds upon Wyoming's STEM initiatives (the location of the NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center in Wyoming, the construction of the Enzi STEM teaching facility, and the Wyoming Governor's Energy, Engineering STEM Integration Task Force). In May 2012, Governor Mead, the State Legislature and the Wyoming Governor’s Energy, Engineering, STEM Integration Task Force articulated a vision to propel the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) and the University of Wyoming (UW) to the realms of excellence in instruction, research and service. UW’s leadership, faculty and staff are committed to this vision; and equally important, UW’s industry partners have embraced this vision and will help actualize it. The film was produced by Open Channel students Lisa Maza, Aretha Briggs, Tim Church and Arthur Jackson working with industry mentors Alan Collins ACS, Rima Tamou and Peter Worland. Living in Two Worlds gives voice to the 'Parkies', a group of mostly indigenous people who congregate in the park. It also follows Dave Arden, a proud Kookatha/Gunditjmarra man and well renowned songwriter/musician, who also spent time in the park. They come together at Yalukit Wilam Ngargee Indigenous music festival, where the 'Parkies marshal, and Dave and his band play. These unique stories highlight family, culture, identity, connection and the resilience of people living in two worlds.

"Assert, Defend, Take Space: Aboriginal Youth Conference on Identity, Activism and Film" was a day-long conference on issues of concern to Aboriginal youth. Artists from the Claiming Space: Voices of Urban Aboriginal Youth exhibition were joined by young filmmakers and activists from across Canada. Building off of the screened films, panelists discussed themes of youth identity and politics, the objectification of Indigenous women, and environmentalism and youth activism. "Claiming Space: Voices of Urban Aboriginal Youth"" is an exhibition that looked at the diverse ways urban Aboriginal youth are asserting their identity and affirming their relationship to both urban spaces and ancestral territories. Unfiltered and unapologetic, over 20 young artists from across Canada, the US, and around the world define what it really means to be an urban Aboriginal youth today. In doing so they challenge centuries of stereotyping and assimilation policies.This exhibit will leave visitors with the understanding that today's urban Aboriginal youth are not only acutely aware of the ongoing impacts of colonization, but are also creatively engaging with decolonizing movements through new media, film, fashion, photography, painting, performance, creative writing and traditional art forms. Lockheed Martin, along with UK-based firm Wem Technologies, is reportedly planning to build a new facility for weapons integration for India’s light combat aircraft (LCA) Tejas in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The proposed weapons integration facility will be built in the West Godavari district at a cost of around INR21.35bn ($318m), The Press Trust of India reported. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was quoted by the news agency as saying: "We have decided to allot 350 acres of land for this facility spread over Vatluru and Bhogapuram villages near Eluru in West Godavari district. "In the first phase, they will invest Rs635 crore and provide employment to 650 persons. “In all, 2,510 jobs will be created when the facility becomes fully operational.” The single-seat, single-engine, lightweight, high-agility supersonic fighter aircraft Tejas has been manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the Indian Air Force (IAF). Tejas' night vision compatible glass cockpit features Martin Baker (UK) zero-zero ejection seats. The cockpit also has two colour liquid crystal multifunction displays, a head-up display and a liquid crystal return-to-home-base panel and keyboard. The aircraft can be fitted with air-to-air, air-to-ground and anti-ship mi$$iles, precision-guided munitions, rockets and bombs. Its hardpoints can also carry electronic w@rfare, targeting, surveillance, reconnaissance or training pods. In this emotional tale of Saul Indian Horse, Richard Wagamese tells the realistic story of a man whose life is drastically changed by one of Canada's most painful histories. When Saul was a child he was taken away from his family and forced into an Indian Residential School where he witnessed and experienced unimaginable abuses at the hands of the school's educators. In spite of the harrowing atrocities, it is at the school that Saul discovers his love of hockey, a game that, for a short time, serves as a means of escape. Saul's talent leads to a draft with a minor league team and a spot on Team Canada during the 1972 Canada-Soviet Summit Series. However, as Saul grows into a man, he struggles with racism and alcohol addiction. Saul's tumultuous adulthood eventually leads him back to his roots, where he confronts his past and begins a new journey towards healing. Richard Wagamese is an Ojibway author from the Wabaseemoong First Nation in Northwestern Ontario. He is the author of several fiction and non-fiction works including For Joshua: An Ojibway Father Teaches His Son, Runaway Dreams, and Indian Horse. Wagamese has also been a journalist and, in 1991, became the first Aboriginal Canadian to receive the National Newspaper Award for Column Writing. His most recent novel, Indian Horse, was chosen as the winner of First Nation Communities Read, and is on the Globe and Mail's bestseller's list as well as the Canadian Booksellers Association's bestseller's list. Among his awards, Wagamese's memoir One Native Life was listed as one of The Globe and Mail's 100 Best Books of 2008. In 2010 he accepted an Honorary Doctor of Letters from Thompson Rivers University. Wagamese currently lives just outside of Kamloops, BC with his wife, Debra Powell, and Molly the Story Dog.

Bono, Director, Defense Health Agency and Sezin Palmer, National Health Mission Area Executive, Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, discussed how different stakeholders are working to improve the interoperability of hospital technologies at South by Southwest 2018 in Austin, Texas. Patients are denied access to simple life-saving techniques purely because the technologies in our hospitals don't work with one another and can't integrate. In addition, the health industry is estimated to lose $750 billion each year because it hasn't solved the problem of interoperability. Several years ago, one of the best hospitals in the world partnered with one of the best systems engineering centers in the world to find a new way forward. We'll share what works and future visions.
