A large group of civil society organizations including experts, energy practitioners, think tanks, peoples’ movements, academics, and entrepreneurs - came together as part of Bijli Vikalp Sangam in Bodh Gaya, between 4th to 6th March 2016. We reflected upon and explored sustainable equitable practices on energy, with a focus on electricity. This was aimed at building a continuing critical dialogue with the state and other stakeholders in order to build a just and equitable energy future. With respect to the electricity sector, we call for action on policies and practices to: Mainstream and prioritize renewable energy to meet all future electricity needs. This should include decentralized solutions including micro grids, stand alone systems etc. According to a UN report, this will also help in creating more green jobs than the conventional sector. Direct investments towards the above objectives Focus on ensuring sustainable, universal access to electricity, which is affordable. This will require a redistribution of available electricity, equitably, to facilitate a good quality of life Build consensus for a new energy paradigm driven by social and individual responsibility, to limit our energy consumption and make lifestyle changes, that are consistent with shrinking planetary resources Ensure that the new imperatives are integrated into all appropriate educational and skill development activities Improve efficiency of existing electricity infrastructure to match global best standards Prioritize demand side management and energy conservation, particularly of large energy guzzling sectors Develop a time bound transition plan to phase out coal and nuclear, while ensuring displaced workers are appropriately re-skilled and re-employed. No construction of large new hydro plants. True cost of renewables and energy efficiency is much lower when compared to the total cost including social, environmental costs of nuclear, coal and large hydro Make cumulative, sectoral, social and environmental Impact Assessment compulsory for all power projects including renewables. Technological and innovative transitions will be necessary across all sectors. These must take place through fair and equitable processes that avoid lock in. Though technology will play a role, solutions for society should not be techno-centric. Implement comprehensive cost benefit and options analysis, including externalities for any power related decision making Mandate free, prior, and informed consent of all concerned communities before initiating any power project The search for solutions should be guided by principles of direct, radical, and ecological democracy in which citizens, including the marginalized, are involved in decision making. This also requires providing mechanism and spaces for such direct citizens’ involvement. We resolve to take this message to a nationwide audience. This group looks forward to constructive engagement with the decision making process of public policy.

PLANNING A VISION FOR LIFE Dr. Tracy Gaudet, of the VA's Office of Patient-Centered Care & Cultural Transformation, is championing an integrated, comprehensive model to address behavior change objectives. "The real opportunity for transformation of healthcare in this country," explained Gaudet, "is not doing consumer initiatives over here and medicine over there, but really looking at the whole." But, Gaudet concedes that a different paradigm is needed to bring about a shift within the established healthcare industry from starting with the disease [our current state] to starting with the person [desired future state], effectively from problem-based to patient-centric approach. "When you start with what matters to the person, what do you want your life for, what do you want your health for, in service of what?" exclaimed Gaudet, "then everything changes." Gaudet called for something far greater than improving current delivery systems and having healthcare providers show greater empathy for patients. She stated the need to leverage service and technology innovation to empower patients to plan around their personal mission and vision for life. "'Planning' is a trigger point by which we can catalyze change in a pretty significant way," articulated Gaudet, "it is an organizing principle that can drive a different outcome in health." When a personalized health plan starts with a person's core values and life goals and then combined with "skill-building and support," described Gaudet, "now that's a different idea.". Since most of what is needed is self-care, Gaudet advocated for skill-building that focuses on creating mindfulness, reducing stress, eating well and exercising. She characterized support services as integrative health coaching, or "deep coaching" that starts from mission and values; as well as buddies and social groups. Gaudet suggested that the Veteran's Health Administration (VHA) is uniquely set up for this shift because our veterans know about things like mission planning and training, and because of the nature of the system itself. "The VHA is positioned to do something because of size of the system, because it has one database, because of other reasons," explained Gaudet, "and we have opportunity to model things and demonstrate them, and capture the data that just isn't possible in the private sector." However, Gaudet noted that a general goal for healthcare systems to optimize health and well being in the service of what matters to the individual, is an aim that is eminently achievable by other providers than just the VHA. Gaudet's talk was given at Consumer-Centric Health: MODELS FOR CHANGE '11, a conference that featured more than 20 presentations on all facets of health behavior change. The presenters represented diverse fields of medicine, employer health, mobile technology, health insurance, gaming, public health, research, and anthropology. The 1½ day conference, held at Seattle University in Seattle, Washington, began with an opening keynote on Oct 12, with the main sessions on Oct 13, divided into three sections (1) WHAT'S WORKING IN BEHAVIOR CHANGE; (2) HOW TO SCALE BEHAVIOR CHANGE; and (3) WHAT ELSE IS NEEDED TO MAKE BEHAVIOR CHANGE MORE EFFECTIVE AND SUSTAINABLE. Models for Change '11 was convened by Health Innoventions with support from Bastyr University's Center for Health Policy & Leadership and Seattle University's Organization Systems Renewal Program. First we look at a science unit on experimentation with variables that required the use of digital photography, creation of a blog for record-keeping and the production of a Voice Thread as a culminating assessment which was peer assessed based on a rubric outlined at the start of the unit. Finally, a more cross-curricular unit involving formal writing learned in literacy and knowledge of urban green spaces as studied in social studies is integrated in the creation of pamphlets produced using MS Publisher before a school-wide contest to determine the best brochures and the best parks.

Hastings, Jr., acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs, described strategic communication as "the synchronization of images, actions and words to achieve a desired effect." Communication is strategic when it is completely consistent with the organisation mission, vision, values and when it is able to enhance the strategic positioning and competitiveness between their competitors. It is important to understand the concept of communication strategy, it should be seen from the organization’s perspective and no one else beside them. As a result of this communication, strategic communication should follow ‘The nature of organisational communication in general, and strategic communication in particular, is defined as the purposeful use of communication by an organisation to fulfill its mission’ stated by (Hallahan et al., 2007). Therefore, the Strategic Communications Framework should be lay out to aim the objectives of communicating to the audience/organisation. The deliberate application of the specific content will help achieve the business goal clearly.

What should the initial staff requirements of your new multilevel marketing company look like? I consult with a lot of different companies that are usually start up companies, every week. One of the things that companies are always asking me is, “What should our staffing requirement look like?” Well, if you’re launching a network marketing company, you’re going to wear a lot of different hats. In fact, of the things I’m going to talk about here, most of them you’ll be doing yourself at some point unless you’re well funded. You need to have a National Sales Director If you’re launching a network marketing company it’s probably either because you were successful in another network marketing company, or you saw the model and thought ‘this is a really good method of distribution for our products and services’. Basically, you want to be the salesperson. While I run through these other things you’re going to realize, you can’t be the salesperson you need to find someone who understands your vision, your vision plan and vision statement, where your company is going, and empowers them to be your National Sales Director. Your National Sales Director is responsible for your marketing. recruiting, meetings, events, conference calls and getting your vision about the opportunity and products out to the public. Customer Service Manager You need a Customer Service Manager, NOT an answering machine. Your customer service should not consist of customers calling you and going straight to an answering machine. These days with technology, you can outsource your phones. In fact, we have a company in Colorado that we outsource to when all of our representatives are on the phone and for about $150 a month, they answer the phones 24 hours a day if we’re not available. Spend a few dollars and give a good impression. Your customer service manager and representatives need to be well spoken and friendly. When they answer the phone, make sure they do it with a smile on their face. You can literally hear the difference in someone’s voice when they smile as they speak. They need to be able to properly manage schedules and have really good time management methodology. They also need to be really familiar with your MLM software and your back office because they’re going to be getting calls from distributors and customers asking a multitude of different questions about it. They need to understand how to set up your products, your enrollment options, work on your menu, pages, content, etc. Compensation Plan Manager Most company owners think that because they designed or decided upon the Compensation Plan, that they’re going to be the Compensation Plan Manager. Here’s the thing, your distributors are never going to call if/when they’re overpaid, but when you start getting distributors calling asking why they didn’t rank up, or receive their commissions, are you going to be the one wearing that hat? Along with all the other hats and tasks that you’re responsible for? You’re the President or the CEO, or Both. You’re not going to have time to do everything. You need a good compensation plan manager that understand the ranks, the requirements, and the rewards for those ranks. That understands how to look at the products and set up the commission value, the bonuses associated with those products, understands how people achieve ranks, be able to look at and determine why someone received a rank or didn’t receive that rank. Most importantly, they need to understand how to run commissions and how to close those commissions and get them paid. Warehouse Products and Service Manager If you’re doing digital products, you’ve probably integrated with 3rd third party for delivery and less concerned about warehousing, but you can’t be the president and answering the phones, and working on the website, and doing the compensation plan, and shipping out the products. Your warehouse manager needs to be able to work with product fulfillment, they need to be able to pull your product sales and data reports, they need to be able to work with the chosen shipper; whether that’s FedEx, UPS, USPS, etc. If you’re working with a 3rd party shipping company, they need to understand that shipping software. The need to be able to confirm most importantly when orders have been picked up or shipped and delivered to your customers and distributors and work with orders and returns. When you reach that point of maturity for a Multi-Level Marketing Company you’re going to have a lot more than just these 4 key people. But as a startup company, you should really be looking for these 4 key roles first. They could be friends, family, investors, they don’t even need to be full-time initially. They can be part-time roles until the job grows and requires someone full tim e.
