Here is what you'll need! Camp Food Hacks Spice Case MATERIALS 7-day pill case 7 spices (of your choosing) INSTRUCTIONS Open up your pill case and fill the slots with the different spices you would like to take on the go with you. Close the lids. Optional: Label the lids with the names of the spices. Coffee Bags MATERIALS Coffee grounds Coffee filter String INSTRUCTIONS Take a coffee filter and fill it with the amount of instant coffee necessary to make a cup of coffee. Tie the filter with a string to keep the instant coffee from falling out. Repeat step 2 as necessary. Pour boiled water into your mug or tumbler, then add the packet of coffee. Let the coffee sit and brew according to packaging instructions. This works with tea as well, just replace the coffee grounds with your loose leaf tea of choice. Portable Pancake Mix MATERIALS Just add water pancake mix Old condiment bottle Funnel INSTRUCTIONS Clean out an old condiment bottle. Using a funnel, fill the bottle approximately ¾ of the way with pancake mix. Keep track of how much pancake mix is in the bottle. At your campsite, add water to the mix according to packaging instructions. Shake the bottle until thoroughly mixed. Squirt the mix onto your pan and cook away! Open A Food Can Without A Can Opener MATERIALS Can of food INSTRUCTIONS Take your can of food and flip it upside down. Vigorously grind the can against a rough surface such as a cement floor, gravel floor, or flat stone. Rotate the can as you grind it against the surface to ensure all edges of the seam are being worn down. Slowly, liquid should start dripping out of your can. Flip it over to check if it is opening. Keep grinding the can until all edges are completely worn down and the lid can be removed. Mold Dinnerware With Foil MATERIALS Foil Dinnerware (that you would like to use as a mold) INSTRUCTIONS Take a large piece of foil and fold it in half. Use only as much as is necessary to make your mold. Take the item that you would like to make a mold of, and wrap foil around it. Mold it to the shape. Careful when placing hot food into your foil dinnerware, use a cloth or towel to avoid direct contact with the foil. Watch more How to Camp videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/508072-How-to-Plan-a-Beginner-Camping-Trip-Camping I wrote my book for women and also men who were reluctant campers, people who are born in cities, who never saw anybody camping. Like me. I didn't know anybody who camped as a kid and I just was never exposed to it and the whole idea of it seemed scary and gross and dirty and a chore. And then I fell in love with it. So the big thing I can tell you about planning a beginner trip is to make it manageable and plan it so that you still love camping after the first trip. For a beginner, a great first trip is car camping. It really gets you a little bit initiated to the great outdoors and suddenly you realize how nice it can be to be away from electricity and television and your cellphone and conveniences, and even your bed, but at the same time, you've got your car there, so if you forget something you can always run and get it. You can bring a lot of stuff, so you don't have to stress about packing. You can bring water, you can bring a cooler, so you can have the foods that you like to have. Car camping is a great way to get started as a camper. If you want to try a primitive camping trip, there's a couple of things I think you should think about. I would recommend just about a one- to two-mile hike in and what I mean by that is you park your car, you put on your backpack, and then you hike one to two miles in to where camping is permitted and that's where you set up. And then I wouldn't plan the kind of trip for a beginner where you're traveling. I would say you hike in, you camp, and then you hike back out. From home base, from your camp site, you can plan hikes, but you'll always come back, like the center of a tire, that's your home base and then you can take trips out from there. I think that makes a really nice beginner trip. I think it's just enough to feel that you accomplish something and you feel like you really tried primitive camping because there won't be a way to go to the bathroom, you'll just live off of what's on your back, so you'll have that really exciting feeling of doing that, but you'll also be so close to your car that you could run and get something if you needed to. And you'll have that safety of knowing that the car is not that far away. So a one- to two-mile hike in off of the trail head to your camp site, it gives you the chance to experience living off of just what's off your back. It gives you the chance to experience primitive camping, so there is no bathroom to run to, there is no outhouse with running water, a place to wash your hands. So you'll get to experience all of that, but you'll be close enough to the car that leaving is easy when you're done and you just want to get home. You have a quick little hike out, you're in your car and you're on your way to the conveniences of civilizations, and you also have the safety of knowing that the car is not that far away if you decide you hate it.

Sweet Potato & Chorizo Breakfast Hash Recipe Full Recipe:https://www.rei.com/blog/camp/camping-recipes-sweet-potato-chorizo-breakfast-hash Perfect for a chilly fall morning, this hearty breakfast skillet is a great way to start the day. The further we push into fall, the greater the motivation needed to get us up and out of bed. The nights are so long and the mornings are so cold that some days it seems impossible to get the day started before 10am. This is when having a warm breakfast to look forward to can be a crucial motivating factor. While this sweet potato & chorizo breakfast hash might seem like something you’d order off a brunch menu, it’s actually incredibly easy to make yourself at a campsite. Plan on making this, and getting up in the morning will become a whole lot easier. We used crumbly pork chorizo in this recipe, but beef chorizo would work as well. If you wanted to make the recipe vegetarian you could sub out the chorizo for soyrizo. Or, if you want to make the whole thing vegan, then use soyrizo and leave out the eggs. Ingredients: 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 medium-size sweet potato, peeled if desired 2 green onions 2 ounces crumbly chorizo (or Soyrizo) 1 teaspoon maple syrup ⅛ teaspoon (a pinch) of cinnamon 2 eggs Salt to taste Cut the sweet potato into ½ inch dice and finely chop the green onions (green + light green parts). Heat the oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, add the sweet potato. Toss to coat, then cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until just beginning to soften. Add the green onions and cook for an additional 5 minutes. Once the potatoes are tender, add the chorizo. Cook for 2 minutes or until cooked through. Add the maple syrup and cinnamon. Stir to combine. Make two wells in the hash and crack an egg into each. Cook the eggs to your liking - we cover our skillet with a lid for about 2 minutes to make sunny side up eggs. Serve + enjoy! Thanks, Fresh Off The Gride for the recipe: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtfkPHv8F3g36h3l8AvpWDg

On this video I am testing my new portable stove for hot tent winter camping and cooking, from a company called Gstove.com from Norway. This video is sponsored by them via product samples. You can buy the stove starter pack here: https://amzn.to/2jNDhaU Package included Stove and content + Tentprotector + 2 extra pipes + Sparkarrestor, you are ready to go camping with this set. Or go to their website to shop around: gstove.com The test was carried over 3 different days and weather conditions. I am proud to be one of their Ambassadors now. If you want to see what I'm up to elsewhere, follow me on: Gear I Use: http://nagualero.com/gear-i-use Patreon http://patreon.com/nagualero Instagram http://instagram.com/nagualero Facebook http://facebook.com/nagualero ___________________________________________________________________ PRODUCT DESCRIPTION ( from their website Gstove.com ) Gstove Heat is designed for the experienced outdoors enthusiast that needs low weight and more room for wood and longer burntime to keep you warm the cold nights. We have in Heat editions removed the integrated cookingstove that Gstove Cooking offers, this to make room for more and larger wood. If you have a larger tent, this is the stove for you. Gstove tent stoves is universal stoves that fits all tents and can be upgraded both in effect and use. Elevated edge: We have an elevated edge in the back of our furnaces, which creates a draw extraction and increased combustion and thus more power and less wood consumption. Door: At the door you will find the air intake in the form of a turntable. At full opening, the oven is quickly warm and red hot and provides good heat in the tent, but even at the lowest it will keep the fire in the oven. The door of Gstove can be slid off the attachment so that you can remove it and thus shake out all leftovers in the oven before packing together after the trip. Legs: The legs are folded while transporting to take less space and keeps the stove stabile under transport. They are fastened with sturdy splints in the legs to ensure that their legs do not clap or the stove tips over. If you want more height on the stove, we have 30 cm legs sold as an option, these are easily replaced with the original legs. Pipe: Standard pipes supplied provide a height of 234 cm. These are located inside the oven to save space during transport. There you will also find a top hat that distributes the smoke evenly to all sides and ensures that more heat is inside the tent while the smoke is searing out. You can easily adjust the pipe height by purchasing extra pipes to cover the height you need. We also sell bent pipes so you can use our stoves in any tent. Grates: Inside the oven you will find a grate that can be removed if you want larger wood cubes. The grate ensures that wood burns efficiently and does not form large coal bits, but instead becomes porous ash which can easily be scratched with the supplied ash scraper. Handle: The top handles can be used as drying stand or relief for cookingpans. They also make it easier to carry the oven on a trip. These are folded together during transport to save space. Ashscraper: In addition to the standard pipes and grills, we also include a ashscraper for cleaning the oven. This is located inside the oven during transport. The ashscraper makes it easy to clean under the grills when the stove is in use, this makes the stove always have good amount of oxygen and keeps the effect at maximum. Product Specification: Material: Stainless Steel Height with standard pipes and legs: 234 cm Stove Height: 20 cm Stove Length: 39 cm Stove Width: 22 cm Door opening Height: 16,5 cm Door opening Width: 13,5 cm Legs Height: 10 cm (Can be upgraded with 30cm legs) Pipelength Standard: 36,5 cm Handles/Drystand Length: 29 cm Handles/Drystand Width:: 13,5 cm Weight: 9,5 kg Reccomended to: 2-14 person tents Standard Content: 1 x Stove 6 x Pipe (36.5 cm) 1 x Grate 1 x Ashscraper 1 x Top Hat to pipe (20 cm) 1 x Door with glass window Buy it here: https://amzn.to/2jNDhaU Note: This is an affiliate link. Here is what you'll need! CAMPING MEAL PREP HACKS WATER Put a frozen jug of water in your cooler. It will act as an ice pack, and when it melts you can drink it! MEATS Precut your meats at home, then freeze them. Place them in your cooler. While frozen, they will act as an ice pack. Once they melt, you can cook them. FRUITS AND VEGETABLES Precut them at home and put them in your cooler. EGGS Scramble them at home, pour them into an empty water bottle, and pack them in your cooler so they’re ready to go with no extra prep. POTATOES At home, prep your potatoes by poking holes in them with a fork. Rub with olive oil and salt, wrap in foil, and bake at 300° F/150° C for 1 hour. Once you’re at camp, roast potatoes over the fire for only 15 minutes and they will be ready to eat! Watch more How to Camp videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/508087-Best-Camping-Foods-Pt-1-Camping What you eat when you are camping is going to be as individual as what you eat when you are home, for the most part. If you are primitive camping, and what I mean by that is, that you are hiking into a campsite a couple of miles in from the road, then you probably are not going to be able to bring a cooler unless you are camping with a bunch of people who are willing to carry a cooler that far. But if you are hiking in six, eight miles and the terrain is rough, then you’re definitely not bringing a cooler. So what does that mean? It means that stuff that you would normally need to refrigerate, you're not going to be able to. A situation where you are not going to be able to refrigerate, that's where the planning really has to come into play. If you’re able to refrigerate, or you are driving into your campsite, then your camping menu should include everything you love to eat. Ribs, steak, eggs, everything you love to eat. You can put it in a cooler, you can drive it in, you can walk it in, and it will be awesome. If you're not in a situation with a cooler or a car, then you need to plan. Here are some basics that I like to plan for. Protein is going to be not as plentiful, so I usually bring beans. I bring cans of beans. They are heavier, but they are easier. Dried beans in bags are light, they are a great source of protein, you just have to plan ahead with soaking them overnight. Those are really great for camping. Another good source of protein, believe it or not, is cheese. Cheese traditionally doesn't really need to be refrigerated. In the United States and in modern times, we refrigerate our cheese, but you don't really have to, at least for a couple of days, particularly with really dense cheeses. So, I always bring cheese camping, I think it's awesome. Rice and grains, any kind of dried grains are going to be great for camping, because again they are light to carry. Pasta is a great camping meal, because it's light. One thing I like to do, is for my first day, I will plan to bring stuff like maybe bacon, maybe even a steak, depending on how far I am hiking in, and I'll eat that stuff that normally has to be refrigerated that very first night. So, the first meal is awesome and it's all this stuff that you really can't usually have when you’re camping, but it will last long enough un-refrigerated for a couple hours. You can really treat yourself on that first dinner when you’re camping. Then from there, I usually just go to beans, beans and rice. In the morning, I do a lot of flapjacks and biscuits and oatmeal. I often bring a lot of seeds and nuts. Fruit is great for camping. Again, it doesn't need to be refrigerated. It's a great snack.

Watch more How to Camp videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/508089-4-Great-Campfire-Recipes-Camping I love cooking, and although when I'm camping I don't have access to things like lamb shoulder, duck, or bacon, all that good stuff that requires refrigeration, it's still super fun to cook when you're camping. These are just some easy recipes that'll make you feel like you're a good campfire chef and really will be super simple to make. The first is something that college kids all know, and it's what I call lazy noodles. It's just taking ramen, throwing out the spice packet, and making your own kind of pasta dish with the ramen. They're really easy to carry. They're really easy to make when you're camping. They just require a little bit of hot water, and then you can chop up some broccoli, chop up some onions, and throw a little soy sauce in. If you brought peanut butter you can even make peanut noodles with some hot sauce and it will taste like you're having sesame peanut noodles around the camp fire. Everyone will be impressed. Another thing that I like to make and that makes me feel like I'm somehow connected to ancient campers is bannock. Bannock is a native American staple. It's just flour, baking soda, oil, water, and salt. What I do is mix all the dry stuff and put it in a Ziploc bag before I go. Then I just mix a little water with it when I'm on site. Bannock can be fried up in oil. It can also be wrapped once you mix it all together and knead it up a little bit. You can also wrap it around a stick and bake it in the fire. It's a really fun thing to do. Kids really like it. Again, it just feels like you're connected to ancient campers when you make a recipe like that. It's an ancient recipe. Another thing that I really like, because I hate smores, is bananas stuffed with chocolate. So you can take a whole banana. Don't peel it. Just slice it length wise, tuck little bits of chocolate inside, wrap the whole thing in aluminum foil, and place it in the coals of the fire, not really in the flame but just in the warm part on the bottom just for a minute or two. Then eat the banana and chocolate out with a spoon. It's awesome.

It's an especially great meal for chilly mornings. It's cheap and easy to make. What more can you ask for?

Needed to get away from the city and found the perfect chance for a catch and cook. This time a wild trout with beautiful orange meat. Besides cooking the fresh fish, I got a chance to try a few different fishing techniques. How I caught the fish was with a size 8 hook, 3 split shots and a night crawler as bait. ... I used butter, salt, pepper, mesquite seasoning and that's it for the fish. It was delicious! Best pan fried fish I've ever ate! ...
