Can you actually make a disease disappear? Dr Rangan Chatterjee thinks you can. Often referred to as the doctor of the future, Rangan is changing the way that we look at illness and how medicine will be practised in years to come. He highlighted his methods in the groundbreaking BBC TV show, Doctor In The House, gaining him much acclaim from patients, his contemporaries and the media. He is the author of the international bestseller, The 4 Pillar Plan - http://amzn.to/2yGfpuB which has been released in the USA and Canada under the title, How to Make Disease Disappear - https://amzn.to/2GstJf6 Rangan’s 15 years of clinical experience in the NHS includes internal medicine, immunology and general practice. A pioneer in the emerging field of progressive medicine, he also uses techniques from other disciplines he has studied including movement kinetics and functional medicine. His own journey of learning was accelerated when family members fell ill and now Rangan is helping people to take control of their health by addressing the root causes of their illnesses, something which is often not achieved in 21st century health care, evidenced by a steady increase in the rates of chronic disease. Rangan is a super-generalist, looking at as many factors as possible which can create wellness or illness. His talk is testament to how our thinking around the concept of disease needs to change to help form a map for future healthcare. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Dying is a social and spiritual and cultural event, and only part of that is to do with medicine. This moving film tells the story of a good death.. and a good bereavement. Molly and Judy's story demonstrates how early conversations make a big difference. The film also shows what can happen when health and social care teams work together and communicate well. Only by talking openly - and honestly - with those closest to us, and those providing our care, can we help to ensure that our final wishes are me. All families should expect the same compassion, level and quality of end of life / palliative care shown in this film. For further information, please search "A good death - Molly's story" or visit the web pages below: This film will be useful for patients, families, GPs, clinicians, care staff, social workers, care managers, carers, community nurses, nursing staff and local Health and Wellbeing boards. There are nearly 2.6 million people in Australia who are carers. Carers provide unpaid care and support to people who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness or who are frail. These people may not call themselves 'carers'; they are partners, parents, siblings, relatives, other family members and/or friends. Carers come from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. They may be working or studying, as well as providing care. They may be any age. Caring can be a demanding role that requires mental and physical energy, commitment and dedication. Carers in outer regional and remote areas experience higher rates of disability or a long-term health condition themselves, and are more likely to experience financial hardship than carers in major cities. Indigenous people in rural and remote Australia are also more likely to be carers than non-Indigenous people in these areas. Caring for a person with a mental illness has particular challenges. The episodic nature of mental illness, the stigma still associated with it, the symptoms of the illness, and the struggle to obtain appropriate treatment and care for a family member or friend, can all contribute to a carer feeling overwhelmed. Carers need strategies to manage these challenges. Their experiences can predispose carers to mental illness themselves. In 2007, carers were found to have the lowest wellbeing of any large group recorded by the Australian Unity Wellbeing Index in The Wellbeing of Australians: Carer Health and Wellbeing. This program covers two main areas. Firstly, it discusses the experiences and particular challenges for carers supporting a person with mental health problems. The importance of carers as part of the care team, and useful strategies for supporting a person with a mental illness are included. Secondly, the program acknowledges the impact of caring on the carer's physical and mental health. It assists health practitioners to develop practical ways to support and encourage carers to look after themselves. Support, counselling and respite services are also examined. The program is introduced by Joan Hughes, CEO of Carers Australia. Produced by the Rural Health Education Foundation http://www.rhef.com.au/

A 104-year-old scientist David Goodall is all set to die. He is traveling to the Swiss city of Basel to an end of life clinic. The clinic has approved his application for euthanasia. The renowned academician wants to end his life as Switzerland has a programme of legal assisted dying. Goodall told reporters at Perth airport that he will fly to Bordeaux to see some members of his family before travelling to Switzerland. He says he has supported voluntary euthanasia for a long time. And he says that he's sorry for having to travel abroad to end his life. Goodall is an honorary research associate at Edith Cowan University in the West Australian capital of Perth. He does not have a terminal illness, but is seeking voluntary euthanasia. He wants to end his life because he believes his quality of life has deteriorated. "Dustin Snyder knows that he may have only days left to live. For the past year and a half, the 19-year-old has been battling a rare form of cancer called synovial sarcoma — undergoing treatments to remove the tumors, only to watch them return and ravage his body. Several weeks ago, doctors told him he had only weeks. So he turned to the person who had been beside him through it all — and asked her to spend the rest of that time with him. “I love her. She’s been there for me through this whole process,” Snyder said about his childhood sweetheart, Sierra Siverio. Seeming to labor during a short Friday afternoon phone interview with The Washington Post, Snyder said Siverio “means the world to me. I wouldn’t be able to get through any of this without her.” The couple married Sunday at the Big Red Barn, a farmers market with a private venue not far from home in Valrico, Fla. “I wouldn’t want to be standing here with anyone else,” Snyder told his bride during the wedding ceremony,” according to CBS affiliate WTSP, “because you are the love of my life.” “Sierra has given me the strength to keep up everything in my life,” Snyder told the news station, later adding that after his first surgery, Siverio never left his side. “That’s when I knew she was the one — and I didn’t want her to leave my life.” Snyder’s mother, Cassandra Fondahn, said the couple privately discussed the idea of marriage earlier last week — a milestone that she hoped would make her son’s final days memorable. He has been at home, with regular visits from hospice, and a pain-medication pump connected to his heart, she said. Snyder made the engagement official Thursday — treating Siverio to dinner, presenting her with roses and popping that special question. He asked her to marry him. Siverio, of course, said yes. “She’s the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with,” he told The Post, days before the two tied the knot. When word got out about the engagement, Fondahn said, Good Samaritans wanted to help — sending the bride-to-be wedding rings and a dress. A GoFundMe page created by his sister has raised nearly $39,000. “He really wants to marry the woman that has stuck by his side through all the sleepless night and now dealing with knowing he will pass any time soon,” the GoFundMe page says. “Dustin always said ‘She is a Keeper.’ Please lets help Dustin enjoy the rest of his life with his soul mate.” An update to the GoFundMe page said that the family had reached its crowdfunding goal for the wedding and additional funds would go toward “the cost for when the day comes for Dustin to be at rest.” It was a Monday in June 2016 — a day before his 18th birthday — when Snyder got the news." Many years. She was on social security disability. She was getting monthly disability checks. She was under her doctor's care. He ignored many of her complaints. Lyrics: Just gonna stand there and watch me burn End of life and all my wishes go unheard They just prolong me and don’t ask why It’s not right because this ain’t the way to die, ain’t the way to die Patient: I can’t tell you what I really want You can only guess what it feels like And right now it’s a steel knife in my windpipe I can’t breathe but ya still fight ‘cause ya can fight Long as the wrong’s done right—protocol’s tight High off of drugs, try to sedate I’m like a pincushion, I hate it, the more I suffer I suffocate And right before I’m about to die, you resuscitate me You think you’ve saved me, and I hate it, wait… Let me go, I’m leaving you—no I ain’t Tube is out, you put it right back, here we go again It’s so insane, ’cause though you think it’s good, I’m so in pain I’m more machine than man now, I’m Anakin But no advanced directive, I feel so ashamed And, crap, who’s that nurse? I don’t even know her name You lay hands on me, to prolong my life again I guess you must think that this is livin’… Just gonna stand there and watch me burn End of life and all my wishes go unheard They just prolong me and don’t ask why It’s my right to choose the way that I should die Doctor: You ever love somebody so much, you can barely see when you with ‘em That they, lay sick and dying but you just don’t wanna let ‘em Be at peace cause you miss ‘em already and they ain’t gone Beep beep, the ventilator alarms I swore I’d never harm ‘em, never do nothing to hurt ‘em Hippocratic oath primum non nocere now I’m forced just to torture ‘em They push full code, no one knows what his wishes were His sister heard him say once, “I don’t wanna be a vegetable” But no one agrees in the family, his caregiver Kate Wants him comfort care but Aunt Claire lives so far away That her guilt eats her like cancer So she answers, “Wait! I think he’ll wake” Maam, you ain’t even in the state! Palliate, relieve pain, get him home, explain Critical care? Just hypocritical when it’s so insane But they insist I shock his heart again so I persist Guess that’s why they say that love is pain. Just gonna stand there and watch me burn End of life and all my wishes go unheard They just prolong me and don’t ask why It’s my right to choose the way that I should die The way that I should die

"Desertification is a fancy word for land that is turning to desert," begins Allan Savory in this quietly powerful talk. And terrifyingly, it's happening to about two-thirds of the world's grasslands, accelerating climate change and causing traditional grazing societies to descend into social chaos. Savory has devoted his life to stopping it. He now believes -- and his work so far shows -- that a surprising factor can protect grasslands and even reclaim degraded land that was once desert. This is the family-friendly version of this song (so it's safe for work or public broadcast). For the uncensored version go to: https://youtu.be/a7VxKo9_scY The Making of “Someone Stole My "Beep'n" Truck” When 55-year-old Roger Burgess found out that, after a lifetime fighting the disease, he had terminal cancer, he created a bucket list of things he has always wanted to do. One of the items on that list was to be involved in a music recording and video. Roger’s friend, Mark Willers, had written a humorous song after his truck and tools were stolen a few years ago, and when Roger heard the song, he was pretty keen on it. Mark decided to pull together some of the awesome talent in our little village of Culburra Beach (in New South Wales, Australia) and everyone was happy to come on board to record the song and video. Studio time and engineering services were volunteered by Marcus Adamson and Luke Robins at Beachtracks Studios and everyone came together one Sunday to get the recording done. It so happened that on that weekend a bunch of Roger’s friends arrived (they had traveled 2000 km from North Queensland to visit), and they were all duly coerced into providing their services as backing singers on the day. There was a joyous feeling in the studio as each of the musicians laid down their tracks and the backup singers did their stuff. Roger played 12-string guitar on the recording, while Ernie Van Veen played acoustic guitars and slide dobro, Glen Duffield played drums, Marcus Adamson played bass and songwriter, Mark Willers, provided main vocals. The video was shot and edited by video producer Ernie Van Veen, partly during the recording session and also a couple of weeks later at the Nerriga Hotel. There was also a final session to film the stealing of the truck in Culburra Beach. Many hands were raised to play the role of truck thief. This project is a testament to the power of community and friendship. Everyone was more than happy to donate their time, and people from the community were coming out of the woodwork offering to be involved. With the project now complete, and the video available on Youtube - all that remains is to fulfil Roger’s next bucket list item and have it go viral! UPDATE: Vale, Roger Burgess. You were an interesting man and introduced us to a lot of interesting people, some of whom are now our good friends. Thank you for that, and for your friendship. When we left you at Sydney airport to embark on your trip home, you said it would be your final chapter. Little did we know you were already on the last page. I will miss your wry smile and wicked sense of humour. Rest in peace, brother. http://ThoriumRemix.com/ Thorium is an abundant material which can be transformed into massive quantities of energy. To do so efficiently requires a very different nuclear reactor than the kind we use today- Not one that uses solid fuel rods, but a reactor in which the fuel is kept in a liquid state. Not one that uses pressurized water as a coolant, but a reactor that uses chemically stable molten salts. Such a reactor is called a "Molten Salt Reactor". Many different configurations are possible. Some of these configurations can harness Thorium very efficiently. This video explores the attributes of Molten Salt Reactors. Why are they compelling? And why do many people (including myself) see them as the only economical way of fully harnessing ALL our nuclear fuels... including Thorium. This video has been under development since 2012. I hope it conveys to you why I personally find Molten Salt Reactors so compelling, as do the many volunteers and supporters who helped create it. Much of the footage was shot by volunteers. Hi My Name is Michelle Williams an Im here to share my story, on how my Tree's Are My Life Started. I am local girl from Perth, Western Australia. I started taking photo's of Tree's as a child, I loved how they stood so tall and how they we so high up an close to the heavens to My God. Three years ago my life started to change, I lived and survived through 10 years of Domestic Volience, an in 2009 I had the strength to say No more and Brake free. I had many of hurdles and bad things happen in 2009 and it took its toll. I endend up in Sir Charlies D20 where I spent just over 3 weeks an found out I had Bipolar. For years I sufferd with rapid mood changes constant extreme highs an the darkess lows and I never could understand why. So when I was told I had Bipolar it was still a shock but it did explain quite alot. I always say to people there is Me and there is the Manic Me An there is the Depressed Me. Ive lost alot of friends due to My Manic Moments my life has been turn up side so many times, Ive said and done things which I struggle to even understand why i did it, but when I have these manic moments I dont have control it's like I become this diffrent person. When I take my photo's its like God is talking to me thru the lens of my camrea. I remeber oneday in 2009 my whole life was just falling apart I had no control I wanted to die and I was struggling it was like My Bipolar owned my life. I made such a mess of things and I couldnt make it right.I prayed to God and asked him to Save me from myself. I just remeber getting this sudden urge to leave my house and walk and I walked for hours I ended up down near the Swan River and I just sat there praying for God to help me, On the long walk home as I came past Tomato Lake in Kewdale, I herd this voice "The Tree's are your life and the Lake is your Soul" I remeber I had to walk around the lake which I had done many of times before , but this time it felt diffrent as I walked around I came to this tree an the branches where twisted and it stood out from the other's This Tree was my life. As I walked home that day every flower looked so colourful and bright every tree stood so tall the sky was so blue it was like God wanted me to see, My Life is important, My journey is ongoing I still struggle with my Bipolar somedays but I thank, MY GOD for he is walking me thru this and he has blessed me with my photos an I hope by you seeing my photo's that you too will feel blessed. And I would like to say Thankyou to my Children and My Family and Closest Friends because without them I couldnt of done this! :)

National Geographic Channel takes you INSIDE one of India's most advanced tertiary care hospitals where doctors, nurses, support staff work around the clock to save lives!
Dr Kate Granger visited Google's office in Mountain View, CA to discuss her work on the #hellomynameis campaign, whilst facing a terminal illness and continuing her work as a doctor. During a hospital stay in the summer of 2013, she made the stark observation that many staff looking after her did not introduce themselves before delivering care. This felt very wrong to Kate, so encouraged and supported by her husband, she decided to start the #hellomynameis campaign to encourage and remind healthcare staff about the importance of introductions in the delivery of care. During this talk, Kate will speak to the power of social media to drive change in our world and her experiences driving the #hellomynameis campaign. Dr Kate Granger is a Consultant at Pinderfields Hospital in Yorkshire, in the UK. She was struck down with terminal cancer 4 years ago at the age of just 29 and has defied the odds by still being here today, as well as being able to work part time as a doctor. She has also raised over $270,000 for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre through the writing of two books amongst other things and changing both the NHS and global healthcare through a campaign called #hellomynameis. Her healthcare work has reaped many accolades including an MBE, an honorary doctorate, two fellowships from different royal colleges, a president’s medal, and various inspirational awards along with a woman of achievement award.
