By continuing to follow these outdated myths and this old-school advice you're definitely slowing down your progress and just making the fat loss process harder on yourself. Let's Jump Right In with myth number one....... you have to have a low-carb diet to burn fat and lose weight. Even though low-carb diets definitely work as far as fat loss is concerned there are plenty of other methods to get you to burn fat. The reason why low carb diets are so popular is because usually people are very impressed by the quick results that they experience in the beginning of low-carb dieting. I have to admit that you're probably not going to lose as much weight not Body fat, but as much weight in the beginning of any other diet plan. Carb-o-hydrates are called Carb-o-hydrates......... because they cause your body to hold a lot of water. So when you cut carbs you're going to drop a lot of water weight fast. This makes a lot of people feel good about the diet because they immediately notice pounds coming off the scale and their whole body will become less puffy because of less water retention. The problem with low-carb dieting is that a lot of people complain about a lack of energy and even feeling sick when they cut carbs too low. The cool thing is like I said it's a myth that you can only cut fat with low carb dieting. Low-fat low-carb and even low protein diets can all cut fat. Also you can burn fat while including all three macronutrients carbs protein and fat in one diet plan. You may not experience the rapid weight loss that you experience from all the water weight you lose when doing a really low-carb diet but the fat loss should even out over time. protein fat and carbs are all insulinogenic. Carbs are the most insulinogenic of the three however I've experimented with low-fat diets and with low protein diets and given the same amount of time I experience very similar results to low-carb dieting. So there are many different ways you can do this. Next myth is to not eat past 6 p.m. or past a certain time late at night. It doesn't matter what time you eat your food. You can literally have one giant meal per day in the middle of the night and you can still be burning fat. You just have to maintain an overall calorie deficit for the whole day the whole week in the whole month that you're cutting. When you eat past 6 you won't store any extra fat because you ate close to your bedtime. This brings me right into the next nutritional myth that goes hand-in-hand with this one and that's the idea that you have to eat small meals more frequently throughout the day to fuel your metabolism to burn more fat. Once again this is not true. It does not matter whether you eat one meal a day or 6 meals a day for the purposes of burning fat. When you eat 6 meals a day your insulin levels stay pretty stable throughout the day so as long as you're eating clean food and maintaining a calorie deficit you should be burning fat. When you only eat one meal a day your insulin levels are really low until you have that meal. Keeping insulin levels low is very beneficial for fat loss. Also because you're only having one meal or let's say two meals for the whole day it's pretty easy to stay under your total alotted calories for the day. Both methods work for fat loss. To gain muscle you need to eat in a calorie Surplus you may want to incorporate more meals because it's going to be tough to eat the amount of food that you have to eat to gain muscle in just one sitting. The next myth is an exercise myth that a lot of beginners have and that's if you spend more time at the gym you're going to get more results. This is actually not true you're way better off doing a much more intense workout for a shorter duration than doing an easy workout for a really long duration. A lot of people come to the gym and theyll spend 2 hours there and not accomplish much of anything. If you come in spin your feet on the bike do you a couple chest presses with 10 lb dumbbells move from one machine to the next and then 2 hours later leave without ever really challenging yourself you're wasting your time. In order to grow you have to challenge yourself. You should be struggling during your workouts and when you struggle during your workout and push yourself outside your comfort zone the longest you should be working out is an hour. An hour however is not the length of time that all your workout should be for example with a very high intensity workout all you need sometimes is just 15 minutes.

Then, kick your feet back behind you so that you end up in a push-up position. Once you’ve done that, bring your feet back under you into a squat, and jump up as high as you can. -Bend your knees and sit back, kind of like you're sitting in an imaginary chair. As you’re doing that, extend your arms straight out in front of you to help keep your balance. -Get down on the floor, place your hands directly under your shoulders, plant your toes firmly on the ground, and squeeze those glutes to stabilize your body. -Lift the dumbbells over your head until your elbows are locked. From this position, lower the dumbbells out the sides at shoulder-level and then, lift them up again. -Lean your torso slightly forward and bend your knees a bit. Then, raise your arms up so that your body forms the letter Y. Roast for 35-40 minutes at 350F or until softened. 5. Scrape out the insides until long spaghetti-like strands of squash begin to pile up. 4. Spread spaghetti squash evenly on the bottom of the dish. 5. In a separate small mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, seasonings, and diced tomatoes. Pour over the spaghetti squash. 6. Top with mozzarella cheese, mushrooms, pepperoni and then black olives. Place in the oven for 20 minutes at 350F and then set to broil for 1-2 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving. Training for strength doesn't mean diet goes out the window. You can absolutely maximize your results with what you eat and the supps you take. Here's how! Jim Stoppani's 6-Week Shortcut To Strength ► http://bbcom.me/2tcNvI2 Jim Stoppani's Recommended Muscle-Building Supplements ► http://bbcom.me/2tgZzZ1 Rule 1 - Eat Plenty of Protein Protein is the main driver of muscle growth and should be the number one priority in your nutrition plan. Strive for at least 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight, and consider going as high as 1.5 grams per pound, especially when following an intense training regimen like this one. Rule 2 - Eat (Protein) Frequently Recent research suggests that consuming protein every 4-6 hours is optimal to maximize muscle growth, not 3 hours like I've told you to before. Why? This timeframe supposedly provides your muscle machinery with the resources it needs to maximize growth while also ensuring it has an adequate "break" soon after before repeating the process. Rule 3 - Get Ample Fats If protein is your highest priority, fat is next on the list. It plays a major role in supporting muscle growth, health, and performance, so don't neglect it—period. My rule for fat intake is to consume half your body weight per day in grams of fat. That means a 180-pound individual will strive to consume 90 grams of fat per day. Rule 4 - Manipulate Carbs Everyone's body responds to carbohydrates differently, so after you set your protein and fat intake, experiment with your carbohydrate intake to determine what works best for you. Aiming for 1.5-2.0 grams of carbohydrates per pound of body weight (on a training day at minimum) is a solid starting place. Rule 5 - Macronutrients Over Calories I'm not a huge stickler on calorie amounts. Yes, calorie intake is important, but rather than focusing on a calories-first approach, I suggest building your diet from the macros up to ensure you're providing your body with the necessary fuel to support strength gains. If you follow my above rules, your caloric intake will come out to be 15-19 calories per pound of body weight. Rule 6 - Use a Protein Powder Blend For me, the only thing better than whey or casein is whey and casein. When you blend these two protein sources, the fast-digesting whey will ensure you rapidly promote an anabolic (muscle-building) environment, while the casein will help you sustain it for a long time—maybe as long as 6-8 hours. This will reduce the time you spend in a state of muscle breakdown and maximize the time spent in a state of growth. To fully round out your protein shake, I suggest the inclusion of medium-speed digesting protein, too. Rule 7 - Use Fast-Digesting Carbs After Workouts Carbohydrates are your muscles' primary fuel source during exercise. The greater the intensity and length of your training, the more the body depletes its carbohydrate stores. This happens! But when it does, you need to rectify it quickly. When used incorrectly, the weight scale often causes people more unnecessary stress than good. Here’s an example. You’re following an amazing workout program, nutrition plan, and following the workout schedule to ensure you’re getting enough rest and sleep to properly recover. So what happens to your motivation and drive when you step on the scale and see the number hasn’t dropped, or you’ve actually gained “weight”? And I use quotes around “weight” because many times, this weight is the good kind of weight. I bet if this happened to you, you would freak out, throw your hands in the air, and say a few colorful 4-letter words. You’re about to learn 4 super important tips on how to properly weigh yourself on the weight scale, while maintaining your sanity during your Live Lean journey. How To Properly Weigh Yourself On A Weight Scale 1. Step onto the weight scale only one time per week: You don’t need to check your weight anymore than once a week. So pick one day per week to be your weigh in day. I usually do it on Monday. 2. Ensure you step onto the weight scale at the same time of day every week: Fluctuations in the number on the weight scale is totally normal depending on the time of the day. Remember, there’s more to your bodyweight composition than just body fat. Fluctuations in how your body holds on to water plays a big role in what the weight scale says. The amount of water your body retains, can be affected by many things including the consumption of carbohydrates. For every gram of carbohydrate you consume, your body can hold approximately 3 grams of water. So if the weight on the scale goes up on a higher carb day, it does not necessarily mean this is added body fat or muscle. It could just be stored water. Also “backed up plumbing” (i.e. your poop) and food still in your stomach, can all add or take away a pound or two on the scale. I weigh myself first thing in the morning, after my poo, and before my first meal, on Monday every week. 3. Step onto the scale naked Clothes and shoes can add a pound or two, so always weigh yourself commando. Enjoy the freedom of being naked. 4. Ensure you use the same weight scale every week. Different weight scales can often show different weights. I used to weigh myself at home, then weigh myself at the gym, and the weight scale would be 3-4 pounds different. Now I only weigh myself at home. I’ve been using the same digital body analyzer weight scale from Vanity Planet for over 2 years now. I like it because it not only tracks your weight, but it also shows your body fat %, water weight, muscle mass, and bone mass. This way you can at least measure your progress in tracking if you’re losing weight or building muscle. Implement these 4 tips on how to properly weigh yourself on a weight scale to help you measure your progress and keep your sanity during your journey to lose weight. There are many people that say that reverse dieting is completely useless and others that take it to the extreme and have people reverse dieting for as long or longer than they were actually dieting for. I think both of these approaches are wrong. And the answer lies somewhere in the middle of the two. Just like we wouldn't want to cut calories drastically, we don't want to increase them drastically either. So we do need some sort of reverse diet after prolonged calorie restriction. On the flip side of the coin the metabolism is very adaptive and does not take anymore than a couple week maybe a month and half at the most to adapt to maintenance levels. So really long reverse diets except maybe in very rare cases are completely unnecessary. I want to start this video by talking about the problems associated with cutting calories too low for extended periods of time Thermic effect of food will go down, which means you won't be burning as many calories from digestion because obviously your not going to be digesting as much food. You will also experience a loss of muscle mass. These two alone account for the biggest loses to your metabolic rate. That's interesting to note because just by eating more good food and building more muscle we can have drastic effects on increasing our metabolism. Another adaption that occurs on restrictive diets is an Increased efficiency of your energy production system which means that you're body becomes better at converting food and body fat into energy. After dieting for an extended period of time your body will be very good at using and preserving every bit of the food you eat. Which is great for survival, but not so great for fat loss. Reduction in your thyroid hormone and leptin levels. These regulate your metabolism, and when leptin is low your appetite increases. Many times after dieting for a long time your hunger signals are out of control. And you'll be able to eat and eat and eat largely due to very low leptin levels. Other things that staying in an extremely restrictive calorie state can lead to include: Eating disorders induced by dieting In diets that are too restrictive women can lose their menstrual cycle Both men and women will experience lower libido Reduction in fat oxidation emotional distress and depression All of these adaptations set the dieter up for a phenomenon known as post-starvation obesity, or body fat overshooting. Or to put it simply you go right back to being fat because at the end of the diet the individual is left with a repressed metabolic rate, and an overwhelming desire to eat. To say that metabolic damage, metabolic slowdown, metabolic adaption, whatever the hell you want to call it to say that it doesn't exist is either perpetuated by ignorance or inexperience. Your metabolism will slow down on restricted diets this has been proven, and I've seen it in many clients. However, to treat it like an irreversible condition or a condition that at minimum will take several months to fix is a a little extreme. There is nothing permanent about your metabolism slowing down. As long as your behaviors change your metabolism will change too. In studies like the Minnesota Starvation studies and Even in anorexic studies when people recover their original body composition their metabolism recover as well. Everyone of them has reduced their body fat % to a low that is not normal nor healthy, and if you want to stay at 5% body fat forever you may have a body image disorder. Every natural bodybuilder at the time of their show has slowed their metabolisms down from where they were when they first started dieting. The really cool thing is that anyone can shoot their metabolism right back up by increasing their calories to their new maintenance levels while simultaneously building back muscle, and extremely lean people have to normalize their body fat % as well. Bodybuilders for example many times go below the normal healthy body fat %, so after a show almost every bodybuilder should increase their body fat percentage as the lean body mass percentage increases at the same time.

And this is really great because there are a lot of wrong ways to go about losing 20 pounds. Now even though theres more than one method to help you lose the 20 pounds of fat the principles for losing the weight and keeping it off remain the same. And those specific principles are what I want to touch on today. So let's get right into this because after spending over half my life training myself as well as thousands of people I've gathered some really great information that I really think will help. The first thing that you're going to have to do to lose the weight and keep it off is to approach your goal with the right mental disposition. What this means is that most people will approach weight loss as a temporary activity with a beginning and an end. That's why when a new client walks through my gym doors they will typically ask questions like "How long will this take," and "will i keep the weight off after losing it." And of course these questions are important, you want to burn the fat as fast as possible, and losing 20 pounds will be absolutely useless if you gain it all right back. But 99.9 percent of the time these questions stem from the mentality that we're going to apply a temporary fix that will give you the body you want forever. And that's not how losing weight to permanently look and feel the way you want works. With this type of mentality you will fail, and let me give you a quick example to illustrate my point. Wouldn't it sound silly to ask your dentist how long you have to brush your teeth to keep them white and never get cavaties again? You also wouldn't ask for how long after you're done brushing your teeth will they stay white and healthy. Because the action of brushing your teeth on a daily basis for the rest of your life is the very thing that gives you nice teeth and keeps them that way. The way your body looks and feels is very similar. We all have a physical body which needs to be taken care of physically or else overtime it will deteriorate. So the first step to losing fat the right way is to come to the conclusion that this is a lifelong commitment just like brushing your teeth. I say this all the time, what your body looks like today is the result of what you've done for the last couple days, weeks, months, and years. So treat this as a permanent endeavor and you will be permanently rewarded with a better body. Now since this is permanent we have to find a dieting approach that we can actually stick to. Understand that there is no one right diet. You can lose 20 pounds with a low carb diet, a high carb diet there's atkins, keto, paleo, vegeterian, and a number of different diet approaches like carb cycling and fasting. All of them can help you lose weight and just because one works better than the other for me doesn't mean that the same approach will work better for you. Now that might sound confusing, but it's absolutely critical that you find the best diet structure that works for you so you can actually stick to it. To lose weight and keep it off you don't have to avoid carbs, you don't have to eat 5 to 6 small meals a day, and you don't have to eat at specific times of the day. You have to create a caloric deficit, consume just enough protein to support lean body mass, and keep insulin levels low by sticking to whole single ingredient foods. You can find whole single ingredient foods just by sticking to the outside aisles of your grocery store. When choosing what single ingredient foods to include in your diet make sure you're choosing healthy options that you actually enjoy eating. All too often people will find out about a diet like the ketogenic diet for example and then almost immediately they're following this new plan without ever thinking about the long term success associated with adopting such a plan. The ketogenic diet can be great for people that love foods that are high in fat, but don't really enjoy eating a lot of carbohydrates. If you like eating higher fat foods like steak, bacon, eggs, butter, avocados, cream cheese, and low carb veggies like asparagus and spinach then a keto style diet plan can be a very good fit for you. However, if you love oatmeal, rice, potatoes, bread, and pasta then giving up those foods for the rest of your life with a keto diet structure is probably going.. (Without Dieting) Why do some people eat a lot but never gain weight? 'Metabolism' is the reason why they can eat everything without gaining weight, while others eat less and still gain weight. WHAT IS METABOLISM? Metabolism is the process by which food is broken down to release energy. Your metabolic rate reflects how much energy your body requires to carry out its basic functions like breathing, eating, sleeping, digesting food and more. If your basal metabolic rate (BMR) is high, you burn more calories, even while resting. Your metabolism is determined by multiple factors, including genetics, age, gender, thyroid problems and hormone levels. Women have a slower metabolism than men because women naturally have a higher body fat percentage. LIFESTYLE RELATED REASONS FOR SLOW METABOLISM: - Lack of exercise - Low muscle mass - Irregular eating habits - Eating too much fat - Crash dieting - Protein deficiency - Too much alcohol - Stress and lack of sleep HOW TO INCREASE YOUR METABOLISM? 'Increasing the metabolism' is the holy grail of weight watchers. It is a quick, safe, healthy, natural and effective way to permanent fat loss. Here's how you can do it: (1) Start Weight Training - BMR is much higher in people with more muscle. - The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn even when you are at rest. - Every pound of muscle uses about 6 calories a day, just to sustain itself, while each pound of fat burns only 2 calories. - So start lifting weights and build muscles in order to improve your metabolism. (2) Add HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) to Weight Training - Do 30 minutes Run-Walk workout: Walk for 2 minutes then run for 1 minute. Keep doing this for 30 minutes. - Some other HIIT activities are sprint intervals, treadmill intervals, kick boxing, jump rope, resistance sprints, football and tennis. - HIIT burns more calories in short period of time and improves your BMR. (3) Eat Every 2-3 Hours - Each time you eat, you stimulate your metabolism for a short period of time, which means that the more often you eat, the more you will increase your metabolism. - Eating small meals every 2 to 3 hours feeds muscle and burns fat. - Frequent eating doesn't mean eating junk food. - Make each mini-meal complete with a serving of vegetables and a healthy source of protein. (4) Eat More Protein - Include healthy sources of protein in your meals such as lentils (Indian dal), whey protein, spinach (palak), chickpeas (channa), kidney beans (rajma), broccoli, cheese, paneer, soybeans, yogurt, milk, lean beef, turkey, fish and egg whites. - It helps you build muscles. (5) Eat Metabolism Boosters - Eat a tablespoon of chili and pepper in your food to increase your metabolism. - Add ginger in food to speed up the body's digestion process. - Have a green tea 3-5 times a day. It can burn up to 80 extra calories without any effort. WHAT YOU SHOULD AVOID? (1) Crash Dieting The worst thing you can do to your metabolism is 'starve yourself'. Although crash diets may help you lose weight, but you will lose muscles mass as well. The lower your muscle mass, the slower your metabolism. (2) Late Night Eating When you sleep, your metabolism slows down because your body doesn't need energy. It turns any unneeded food into fat. (3) Too much cardio It will actually burn your muscle tissues. A better way to boost metabolism through exercise is to start a strength-training routine along with cardio. By then, he had given up on the idea of living a normal life—at least by society's definition of "normal." "I spent my days playing video games and trolling the Internet," remembers Jesse. "I was just all negativity, all of the time." Jesse's heaviest recorded weight was 653 pounds, but he probably weighed quite a bit more than that. He could only find a scale big enough to weigh himself with after losing weight for two months. The only thing more remarkable about the amount of weight Jesse lost—300 pounds—is the way he lost it—through help from strangers on the Bodybuilding.com forums. | 300 Pounds Down | Remarkably, Jesse's transformation started by accident. "It started off as nothing more than an ill-fated attempt to get a rise out of bodybuilding types," he recalls. Jesse created a thread called "Ask the fattest man on the misc [sub-forum] anything," posted photos of his then-obese body, and waited, fully expecting—almost inviting—a backlash. What happened instead set the wheels of change in motion. "[My plan] 'backfired' on me, and people started to try to convince me that it wasn't too late, that even at my weight, all was not lost," remembers Jesse. "I didn't want to hear it and made my usual excuses, like not having enough money for groceries or lacking the motivation. But the members of the thread didn't accept my excuses and even offered advice on how it could be done. They walked me through it, provided me with a platform to get feedback and take baby steps, and the rest is history!" "It really showed me that even on the Internet, the kindness of strangers can completely change your life.
