So today I want to go over the 10 most effective exercises for weight loss that you could do right in your own living room. The exercises that i go over today require no equipment and the reason why theyre more effective than others is because they're going to work mulriple joints and muscle groups at the same time and theyre gonna get your heart rate and your breathing rate up way up. You can combine all of these exercises into one workout simply by using on and off intervals. The training style that I recommend for this type of workout is short intervals. 20 seconds on and then ten seconds off then repeat each exercise for 8 rounds before taking a minute break and moving on to the next. Training in a high intensity way like this will allow you to burn more calories in a shorter amount of time. Before I jump into the first one I do have to State the obvious and that's the fact that if you want to lose weight or burn fat you do have to make sure that you're keeping it clean in the kitchen as well. These arent magical exercises that was somehow counterbalance eating junk everyday. But by doing this work out a couple times a week and watching what you eat I'm sure that anyone can lose weight and body fat with these exercises. Let's start with number 1. its a combination of jumping jacks and burpees. Burpees are by far one of the most effective exercises to get your heart rate up while also working your upper and your lower body. Most people know how to do a jumping jack start standing straight up then jump your feet out and raise your arms over your head and you're going to do that 5 times. Then you would perform the burpee by bending your back and lowering yourself down to the ground. As you place your hands on the floor. Next you're going to jump your feet out and get into a push-up position lower yourself down for the push-up then hop your feet back in and jump up. If this is too advanced for you you can walk your feet out one foot at a time instead of hoping. Regardless of whether you're a beginner or advanced the sequence is five jumping jacks one Burpee 5 jumping jacks one Burpee back and forth. Next we have the mountain climber sit through drill. For this one you're going to perform 4 mountain climbers for every two sit throughs. Most people know how to do mountain climbers. These are the same mountain climbers that you've probably done in gym class. Every time that you hop one of your knees up to your chest it counts as one. So you shuffle your feet 4 times and then you do 2 sit throughs. The sit through is done by starting in a pushup postion then lifting one hand off the ground and your opposite leg off the ground. Bring your hand up to your head and kick your opposite leg through as you turn your hips and your body enough for your butt to barely tap the ground. Then return back to the pushup position and repeat for the other side. Once you're done with those 2 sit throughs go right back to mountain climbers. Next is the plyo step up. This one is not only great for your footwork, balance, and coordination, but it's also a great exercise to burn a bunch of calories. All you need is a step below knee level. You can use a low chair or even the bottom stair ledge in your house. Start with one foot on the platform, put your weight on that foot and jump up as you switch your feet. Do this back and forth repeating for the full time. I know it doesn't look like much, but like I said you will be breathing heavy after doing this one for 20 seconds straight and especially after eight rounds. If you have knee problems and can't jump up and down you can just alternate stepping up side to side. Moving on to exercise number four the spider man pushup. This one does require a lot of upper body strength so if you're a beginner just stick to regular pushups or you can also do pushups on your knees if regular pushups are too hard. The key with all of these exercises is to perform the exercise in the most intense way that you can and then regress as it gets harder. So you can start by doing a couple reps of the spiderman pushups and then when it gets too hard do regular pushups and finally when you start to fail and give out with those you can drop to your knees for a few more forced reps. But the spider man pushup is done by simply starting in a pushup position and then as you come down for a pushup bring one knee up to your elbow.

When used incorrectly, the weight scale often causes people more unnecessary stress than good. Here’s an example. So what happens to your motivation and drive when you step on the scale and see the number hasn’t dropped, or you’ve actually gained “weight”? And I use quotes around “weight” because many times, this weight is the good kind of weight. I bet if this happened to you, you would freak out, throw your hands in the air, and say a few colorful 4-letter words. You’re about to learn 4 super important tips on how to properly weigh yourself on the weight scale, while maintaining your sanity during your Live Lean journey. How To Properly Weigh Yourself On A Weight Scale 1. Step onto the weight scale only one time per week: You don’t need to check your weight anymore than once a week. So pick one day per week to be your weigh in day. I usually do it on Monday. 2. Ensure you step onto the weight scale at the same time of day every week: Fluctuations in the number on the weight scale is totally normal depending on the time of the day. Remember, there’s more to your bodyweight composition than just body fat. Fluctuations in how your body holds on to water plays a big role in what the weight scale says. The amount of water your body retains, can be affected by many things including the consumption of carbohydrates. For every gram of carbohydrate you consume, your body can hold approximately 3 grams of water. So if the weight on the scale goes up on a higher carb day, it does not necessarily mean this is added body fat or muscle. It could just be stored water. Also “backed up plumbing” (i.e. your poop) and food still in your stomach, can all add or take away a pound or two on the scale. I weigh myself first thing in the morning, after my poo, and before my first meal, on Monday every week. 3. Step onto the scale naked Clothes and shoes can add a pound or two, so always weigh yourself commando. Enjoy the freedom of being naked. 4. Ensure you use the same weight scale every week. Different weight scales can often show different weights. I used to weigh myself at home, then weigh myself at the gym, and the weight scale would be 3-4 pounds different. Now I only weigh myself at home. I’ve been using the same digital body analyzer weight scale from Vanity Planet for over 2 years now. I like it because it not only tracks your weight, but it also shows your body fat %, water weight, muscle mass, and bone mass. This way you can at least measure your progress in tracking if you’re losing weight or building muscle. Training for strength doesn't mean diet goes out the window. You can absolutely maximize your results with what you eat and the supps you take. Here's how! Jim Stoppani's 6-Week Shortcut To Strength ► http://bbcom.me/2tcNvI2 Jim Stoppani's Recommended Muscle-Building Supplements ► http://bbcom.me/2tgZzZ1 Rule 1 - Eat Plenty of Protein Protein is the main driver of muscle growth and should be the number one priority in your nutrition plan. Strive for at least 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight, and consider going as high as 1.5 grams per pound, especially when following an intense training regimen like this one. Rule 2 - Eat (Protein) Frequently Recent research suggests that consuming protein every 4-6 hours is optimal to maximize muscle growth, not 3 hours like I've told you to before. Why? This timeframe supposedly provides your muscle machinery with the resources it needs to maximize growth while also ensuring it has an adequate "break" soon after before repeating the process. Rule 3 - Get Ample Fats If protein is your highest priority, fat is next on the list. It plays a major role in supporting muscle growth, health, and performance, so don't neglect it—period. My rule for fat intake is to consume half your body weight per day in grams of fat. That means a 180-pound individual will strive to consume 90 grams of fat per day. Rule 4 - Manipulate Carbs Everyone's body responds to carbohydrates differently, so after you set your protein and fat intake, experiment with your carbohydrate intake to determine what works best for you. Aiming for 1.5-2.0 grams of carbohydrates per pound of body weight (on a training day at minimum) is a solid starting place. Rule 5 - Macronutrients Over Calories I'm not a huge stickler on calorie amounts. Yes, calorie intake is important, but rather than focusing on a calories-first approach, I suggest building your diet from the macros up to ensure you're providing your body with the necessary fuel to support strength gains. If you follow my above rules, your caloric intake will come out to be 15-19 calories per pound of body weight. Rule 6 - Use a Protein Powder Blend For me, the only thing better than whey or casein is whey and casein. When you blend these two protein sources, the fast-digesting whey will ensure you rapidly promote an anabolic (muscle-building) environment, while the casein will help you sustain it for a long time—maybe as long as 6-8 hours. This will reduce the time you spend in a state of muscle breakdown and maximize the time spent in a state of growth. To fully round out your protein shake, I suggest the inclusion of medium-speed digesting protein, too. Rule 7 - Use Fast-Digesting Carbs After Workouts Carbohydrates are your muscles' primary fuel source during exercise. The greater the intensity and length of your training, the more the body depletes its carbohydrate stores. This happens! But when it does, you need to rectify it quickly. People want to know if burpees are the best exercise for getting the job done. Others want to know if battle ropes or even jump rope are better at burning calories and burning fat. While all of them are at the top of the list for the most calories burned on a minute per minute basis, they still are not the best way to lose five pounds of body fat the fastest. In this video, I show you how you can never outtrain a bad diet. If you refuse to pay attention to the quality of your nutrition and the foods you put in your mouth you are never going to have the low levels of body fat that you desire long term. Sure, anyone can follow a short term diet that allows them to lose fat for a few weeks however if you can’t keep it up then you will never be satisfied with your body fat levels over the course of the year. Mistakenly, people look to exercises as the best way to drop body fat. While you definitely need to train, achieving fat loss is and always will be better accomplished via the right nutrition plan. This goes back to the comment about never being able to outtrain a bad diet. You simply cannot make up enough calorie burn via exercise (even the most intense) to overcome bad food choices. The 4 main goals of weight training are fat loss, hypertrophy (building muscle), Endurance, and strength. The first thing I want you to do is clearly identify your goal. There is a very specific style of training for each goal. The 3 factors that separate the style of training between all 4 of these goals are Rest time Tempo The speed at which you execute your reps (particularly the eccentric part of your lift) usually represented by 4 (sometimes theres just 3) numbers that is usually written like this 4-0-1-0 The first number (4) is the eccentric, or lowering, component of the lift The second number (0) means theres no pause at the midpoint or the bottom of the lift The third number (1) is the concentric, or lifting, component the fourth number (0) means theres no pause at the top of the lift Volume The number of sets and reps you perform in a given phase of your program Most people watching this video will either be interested fat loss or muscle gain The most effective way to train for fat loss is Mostly compound movements Medium volume (24-36 sets of 12-15 reps per week per body part) Low/medium weight (65-75% of your one rep max) a weight that challenges you but allows you to recover quick in order to complete the next set) Low rest 60-90 secs max With this style of training. Beyond what they call the "newbie gains” you won’t put on any new muscle and you will not improve your strength You will however maintain you current muscle which is key for people in a caloric deficit trying to lose fat. And you will also condition your muscles and create metabolic environment in your body that will cause you to burn fat pretty much all day. (Which doesn’t happen with cardio) Word of advice. Don't strictly stick to doing the style of training that I just described for fat loss. Yes this style of training will be your main focus, but For long term success in weight loss you will have to incorporate strength and hypertrophy style training as well. And based on the thousands of clients that I've worked with in my gyms and online this process can be broken down into 3 major keys that determine whether you will be successful with losing weight and body fat or not. So in today's video I want to give you these 3 keys so you can unlock your bodies full fat burning abilities. If you make sure that you do all three of these things you will burn fat faster than ever before and keep it off permanently. Let's start with the first key. The model for burning fat has always looked like this. If you take too many calories in from food and you don't burn enough calories from exercise you gain fat and vice versa if you have less calories than you burn you'll lose fat. Everyone knows that, we've been told that over and over again since we were little kids. That means that the traditional model suggests that the reason you have excess fat or your carry extra weight is because you have too many calories. And the unspoken reason behind this model for why you have too many calories is because of a lack of willpower. You have excess body fat because it's your fault for not having enough self control and willpower to just consume fewer calories. However, this doesn't match up with your experience. Based on you own personal experience you know that when you have fewer calories you lose a couple pounds and then you usually get stuck. You continue eating fewer calories and feeling like your starving yourself eating bland boring foods you hate, but you never hit your target weight. This goes on for a while...you get discouraged...and then you quit because no one can stay on a restrictive low calorie diet for the long haul especially when its not producing results. Well, guess what I'm here to tell you its not entirely your fault. And I don't mean that in some cliche cheesy way, I mean quite literally its not only because you don't have enough willpower or self control even though for some of you that may be a big contributing factor. Make no mistake you will need will power to burn fat, but this isn't the only cause. In reality if we only look at calories in and calories out your not addressing the core cause of the problem. You see burning fat and losing weight is not just about using willpower to starve yourself by eating less and exercising more, because your body is way too smart for that. Within just a week after decreasing calories coming in your body will automatically decrease calories coming out. Many people refer to this process as your body entering into a so called "starvation mode." This is where your metabolism will slow down causing your fat loss to slow to almost nothing. Not only does your body slow your metabolism and this is proven over and over again in study after study, but it also increases the production of a hormone known as ghrelin. Ghrelins role is to signal your brain to make you feel hungry. So to sum up this whole torturous dieting process up you now have less calories coming in, less calories coming out due to your body responding with a slower metabolism, you're hungrier because of ghrelin, yet you're not burning much fat. In fact the situation begins to feel like you need to keep cutting calories just to maintain your current body fat rather than to lose more. And that's ultimately what discourages you and causes you to quit. Starting the whole cycle over again months later when you're probably in even worse shape than you were before. So what are we missing? Well it turns out your willpower is actually not the core cause of this problem it's actually also a hormonal problem rather than just a calorie problem. Once you understand this fat loss becomes easy and keeping it off is even easier. People think that when calories come in they keep going out until you eat too many calories and then your body starts storing those excess calories as fat. Even though this is part of how fat loss works unfortunately it's not so simple. When calories come in your body chooses whether it will store a portion of those calories even if you didn't cross over your total daily calorie allowance. There are many people that say that reverse dieting is completely useless and others that take it to the extreme and have people reverse dieting for as long or longer than they were actually dieting for. I think both of these approaches are wrong. And the answer lies somewhere in the middle of the two. Just like we wouldn't want to cut calories drastically, we don't want to increase them drastically either. So we do need some sort of reverse diet after prolonged calorie restriction. On the flip side of the coin the metabolism is very adaptive and does not take anymore than a couple week maybe a month and half at the most to adapt to maintenance levels. So really long reverse diets except maybe in very rare cases are completely unnecessary. I want to start this video by talking about the problems associated with cutting calories too low for extended periods of time Thermic effect of food will go down, which means you won't be burning as many calories from digestion because obviously your not going to be digesting as much food. You will also experience a loss of muscle mass. These two alone account for the biggest loses to your metabolic rate. That's interesting to note because just by eating more good food and building more muscle we can have drastic effects on increasing our metabolism. Another adaption that occurs on restrictive diets is an Increased efficiency of your energy production system which means that you're body becomes better at converting food and body fat into energy. After dieting for an extended period of time your body will be very good at using and preserving every bit of the food you eat. Which is great for survival, but not so great for fat loss. Reduction in your thyroid hormone and leptin levels. These regulate your metabolism, and when leptin is low your appetite increases. Many times after dieting for a long time your hunger signals are out of control. And you'll be able to eat and eat and eat largely due to very low leptin levels. Other things that staying in an extremely restrictive calorie state can lead to include: Eating disorders induced by dieting In diets that are too restrictive women can lose their menstrual cycle Both men and women will experience lower libido Reduction in fat oxidation emotional distress and depression All of these adaptations set the dieter up for a phenomenon known as post-starvation obesity, or body fat overshooting. Or to put it simply you go right back to being fat because at the end of the diet the individual is left with a repressed metabolic rate, and an overwhelming desire to eat. To say that metabolic damage, metabolic slowdown, metabolic adaption, whatever the hell you want to call it to say that it doesn't exist is either perpetuated by ignorance or inexperience. Your metabolism will slow down on restricted diets this has been proven, and I've seen it in many clients. However, to treat it like an irreversible condition or a condition that at minimum will take several months to fix is a a little extreme. There is nothing permanent about your metabolism slowing down. As long as your behaviors change your metabolism will change too. In studies like the Minnesota Starvation studies and Even in anorexic studies when people recover their original body composition their metabolism recover as well. Everyone of them has reduced their body fat % to a low that is not normal nor healthy, and if you want to stay at 5% body fat forever you may have a body image disorder. Every natural bodybuilder at the time of their show has slowed their metabolisms down from where they were when they first started dieting. The really cool thing is that anyone can shoot their metabolism right back up by increasing their calories to their new maintenance levels while simultaneously building back muscle, and extremely lean people have to normalize their body fat % as well. Bodybuilders for example many times go below the normal healthy body fat %, so after a show almost every bodybuilder should increase their body fat percentage as the lean body mass percentage increases at the same time.

(Without Dieting) Why do some people eat a lot but never gain weight? 'Metabolism' is the reason why they can eat everything without gaining weight, while others eat less and still gain weight. WHAT IS METABOLISM? Metabolism is the process by which food is broken down to release energy. Your metabolic rate reflects how much energy your body requires to carry out its basic functions like breathing, eating, sleeping, digesting food and more. If your basal metabolic rate (BMR) is high, you burn more calories, even while resting. Your metabolism is determined by multiple factors, including genetics, age, gender, thyroid problems and hormone levels. Women have a slower metabolism than men because women naturally have a higher body fat percentage. LIFESTYLE RELATED REASONS FOR SLOW METABOLISM: - Lack of exercise - Low muscle mass - Irregular eating habits - Eating too much fat - Crash dieting - Protein deficiency - Too much alcohol - Stress and lack of sleep HOW TO INCREASE YOUR METABOLISM? 'Increasing the metabolism' is the holy grail of weight watchers. It is a quick, safe, healthy, natural and effective way to permanent fat loss. Here's how you can do it: (1) Start Weight Training - BMR is much higher in people with more muscle. - The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn even when you are at rest. - Every pound of muscle uses about 6 calories a day, just to sustain itself, while each pound of fat burns only 2 calories. - So start lifting weights and build muscles in order to improve your metabolism. (2) Add HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) to Weight Training - Do 30 minutes Run-Walk workout: Walk for 2 minutes then run for 1 minute. Keep doing this for 30 minutes. - Some other HIIT activities are sprint intervals, treadmill intervals, kick boxing, jump rope, resistance sprints, football and tennis. - HIIT burns more calories in short period of time and improves your BMR. (3) Eat Every 2-3 Hours - Each time you eat, you stimulate your metabolism for a short period of time, which means that the more often you eat, the more you will increase your metabolism. - Eating small meals every 2 to 3 hours feeds muscle and burns fat. - Frequent eating doesn't mean eating junk food. - Make each mini-meal complete with a serving of vegetables and a healthy source of protein. (4) Eat More Protein - Include healthy sources of protein in your meals such as lentils (Indian dal), whey protein, spinach (palak), chickpeas (channa), kidney beans (rajma), broccoli, cheese, paneer, soybeans, yogurt, milk, lean beef, turkey, fish and egg whites. - It helps you build muscles. (5) Eat Metabolism Boosters - Eat a tablespoon of chili and pepper in your food to increase your metabolism. - Add ginger in food to speed up the body's digestion process. - Have a green tea 3-5 times a day. It can burn up to 80 extra calories without any effort. WHAT YOU SHOULD AVOID? (1) Crash Dieting The worst thing you can do to your metabolism is 'starve yourself'. Although crash diets may help you lose weight, but you will lose muscles mass as well. The lower your muscle mass, the slower your metabolism. (2) Late Night Eating When you sleep, your metabolism slows down because your body doesn't need energy. It turns any unneeded food into fat. (3) Too much cardio It will actually burn your muscle tissues. A better way to boost metabolism through exercise is to start a strength-training routine along with cardio. So if you’re a beginner and you want to start lifting weights, but unsure where or how to start, be sure to watch this video through. 1) Dumbbell Squats Muscles: Glutes, hamstrings, quads and core. Weights: Between 5 – 8kgs each or more. 2) Alternate Overhead Lunge Muscles: Glutes, hamstrings, quads, core & shoulders. Weights: Between 5 – 8kgs 3) Bent-Over Row Muscles: Back & Biceps. Weights: Between 5 – 8kgs 4) Chest Press Muscles: Chest, Shoulders & Triceps. Weights: Start with 4 – 6kgs each. 5) Bicep Curl to Shoulder Press Muscles: Biceps, Shoulders & Triceps. Weights: Choose something lighter but not too light, between 3 – 5kgs each. 6) Tricep Kickbacks Muscles: Triceps. Weights: Go for a lighter weight, between 2 – 4kgs each. 7) Reverse Fly Muscles: Upper Back & Shoulders. Weights: Go for lighter weights, between 2 – 3kgs each. 8) Full Extension Muscles: Upper & Lower Abs. Weights: Between 4 – 6kgs. 9) Russian Twist Muscles: Core and Obliques. Weights: Between 4 – 6kgs. Perform all 9 exercises as a Total body strength-training workout in about 45 minutes. Follow them in the sequence I’ve laid out in this video. Aim to perform between 12 – 15 repetitions per exercise. If you can do more than 15 reps, then the weights are too light and you need to increase them If you are an absolute beginner, then complete 2 sets for each exercise before moving on to the next exercise. As you progress, aim to complete between 3 – 4 sets. If you’re looking to buy dumbbells, as a beginner, I’d recommend buying 2 pairs of dumbbells. One heavier pair, between 5 – 6kgs each and another lighter pair, between 3 – 4kgs each. It’s always better to buy a heavier pair because then you can train and progress into lifting heavier. You don’t have to spend your money on buying really light dumbbells, because you can easily make them at home using water bottles. All the best! xx
