Cancer is an abnormal growth of cells. There are more than 100 types of cancer, including breast cancer, skin cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, and lymphoma. Possible signs and symptoms include a lump, abnormal bleeding, prolonged cough, unexplained weight loss and a change in bowel movements. Many cancers can be prevented by not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, not drinking too much alcohol, eating plenty of vegetables, fruits and whole grains, not eating too much processed and red meat, and by avoiding many cancer causing foods that we have listed below. Microwave popcorn bags are lined with perfluorooctanoic acid, a compound that has been linked to various types of cancer, including liver, testicular and pancreatic cancer. Canned foods allow you to enjoy your favorite vegetables throughout the year. However, if you are concerned about your health, avoid canned food, especially canned tomatoes. The cans used to pack tomatoes and other foods are lined with a product called bisphenol A, BPA, an endocrine disruptor that may mimic or disrupt hormones and increase the risks for breast cancer, prostate cancer, early puberty, metabolic disorders, infertility, and several other problems. Farmed salmon is nowhere near as healthy as wild salmon, and eating farmed salmon puts you at a higher risk of developing cancer. Farm-raised fish are fed unnatural diets and contaminated with chemicals, antibiotics, pesticides and other known carcinogens found in materials like asbestos. Hydrogenated oils are vegetable oils, which cannot be naturally extracted like olive oil, soy or canola oil, they are chemically extracted from vegetables and is again chemically treated to change the smell and taste. This process turns unsaturated fat into a stable solid fat, resulting in trans fatty hydrogenated oil which is considered to be the worst type of fat and is known to cause cancer, heart disease, and immune system problems. Potato chips are deep-fried in temperatures above 120 degrees Celsius, which causes them to create a material called acrylamide, a well-known carcinogen found in cigarettes. Genetically modified foods (GMOs) are a rapidly growing industry and have made their way into the majority of our foods like corn, potatoes, grains and soybeans. Such food products are grown using harmful chemicals and, when consumed, can lead to immune system, brain and liver damage. Refined sugar, artificial sweeteners and fructose-rich sweeteners like high-fructose corn syrup are not good for your health. These products tend to rapidly spike insulin levels and feed the growth of cancer cells. Refined White flour contains excess carbohydrates that are not good for your health and even increase the risk of cancer. During the milling process, white flour is bleached with chlorine gas, which is highly toxic for the body. Processed meats such as ham, sausage and bacon have chemicals and preservatives like sodium nitrates, which make them bad for your health. In addition, processed meat contains excessive salt, which is also not good for you. Pickled and smoked foods are delicious but, at the same time, very harmful to the body. In fact, smoked meats that pick up tar from the smoking process cause extreme harm to your body. Plus, most pickled foods contain nitrates that turn into N-nitroso, which increases your risk of cancer.

Breast cancer kills more women in the United States than any cancer except lung cancer. No one knows why some women get breast cancer, but there are a number of risk factors. Risks that you cannot change include Age - the chance of getting breast cancer rises as a woman gets older Genes - there are two genes, BRCA1 and BRCA2, that greatly increase the risk. Women who have family members with breast or ovarian cancer may wish to be tested. Personal factors - beginning periods before age 12 or going through menopause after age 55 Other risks include being overweight, using hormone replacement therapy (also called menopausal hormone therapy), taking birth control pills, drinking alcohol, not having children or having your first child after age 35 or having dense breasts. Symptoms of breast cancer may include a lump in the breast, a change in size or shape of the breast or discharge from a nipple. Breast self-exam and mammography can help find breast cancer early when it is most treatable. Treatment may consist of radiation, lumpectomy, mastectomy, chemotherapy and hormone therapy. Men can have breast cancer, too, but the number of cases is small. NIH: National Cancer Institute

What happens to cells for cancerous growths to occur? Your body is made up of millions and millions of cells. In fact there are between 50 and 75 trillion cells in the body. These cells are dying and being replaced all the time. Cancer can start when just one of the trillions of cells begins to grow and multiply too much. The result is a mass of cells called a tumour. The starting place of abnormal cell growth and division is called the primary tumour, and they can start almost anywhere in the human body. Changes take place within the genes of a cell or group of cells, resulting in the abnormal cell division. Genes are specific codes of DNA that tell the cell what to do by coding for specific proteins or an RNA molecule. Proteins and RNA together control the cell. They decide what type of cell it is, what it does, when it divides and when the cell will die. When cells divide by mitosis, the DNA is replicated and sometimes mistakes are made. These are called mutations. Lots of mutations are silent; they have no effect on the cell because they occur in non-coding regions of the DNA. But sometimes, mutations in certain genes may mean that too many proteins are produced that trigger a cell to divide. Or proteins that normally tell a cell to stop dividing may not be produced. The cells starts to grow out of control. There have to be at least about 6 or more mutations to coding DNA before a normal cell turns into a cancer cell. Cells are usually very good at repairing damage to genes; they have special repair mechanisms in place. But over time, the damage may build up. And then it can be a domino effect; once the cells start growing too fast and dividing rapidly, they are more likely to pick up even more mutations and less likely to repair the damage. So mutations do the damage, but what causes them to happen? Whilst mutations can happen by natural processes, they can also be triggered by lifestyle. For example, there are cancer-causing substances, known as carcinogens, in tobacco smoke. In fact, more than 4 out of 5 cases of lung cancer are caused by smoking. Genetics also have a role to play; faulty genes can be passed from parent to offspring. Most inherited cases of breast cancer are associated with two abnormal genes: BRCA1 and BRCA2. Other cancer-causing factors include exposure to radiation, exposure to UV radiation from the sun and some chemicals in the environment amongst other things. The difference between carcinoma and sarcoma is cell of origin. If it is the carcinoma, it arises from the epithelial cells, which are cells in the glandular tissue or intestinal tissue where there is an epithelial surface, which takes it forward. From these cells if there is tumor that is arising, we call it carcinoma there is another tissue called as mesenchymal tissue in the body which is the supporting tissue of all the organs of the body or the cells in the body. This mesenchymal tissue of the body arises from this mesenchymal tissue, we call it sarcoma. But they have certain pattern of origin and pattern of distribution of the disease once where they are carcinomas or sarcomas. Carcinomas spread by lymphatics, that is the spread of carcinomas spread by lymph nodes. But there are certain exceptions to this. Sarcomas spread by blood, but there are one or two exceptions to this also. But these are the rules that they follow when they start from these particular cells.

How to Examine and Treat Moles. There are all kinds of misconceptions out there regarding moles, suntan, and skin cancer most people still believe. It can be really dangerous for you, and if you want to protect yourself and your family and stay healthy, you have to know these important tips. We’re going to debunk the most widespread myths when it comes to moles, freckles, suntan, and melanoma. Only dangerous moles get removed. 3:19 A dermatologist will have no problem removing any mole if it bothers you physically or makes you self-conscious. For example, if you're worried about hurting it while putting on or taking off your clothes or if you don’t like how it looks on your face, you can always have a mole removed. And don’t worry, it's absolutely safe for your health. Just make sure you do get it done in a specialized establishment where it’ll be taken for tissue analysis. You don’t need sun protection if it's cloudy or rainy outside. 5:39 Ultraviolet radiation can easily penetrate clouds, which means it can still damage our skin even if it’s a cloudy day or pouring down rain. However, the intensity of the damage these rays can cause depends on weather conditions and the season. You can download a special mobile app that will tell you the daily UV Index and give recommendations on how to prepare your skin for a day outside. If you tear off a mole, you can get cancer. 7:58 There’s not really any definitive proof that a mole can be reborn into a melanoma after being ripped off. More often than not, an injured mole that turned out to be cancerous had already been growing as a melanoma. In this case, the process of tissue repair, which provokes the growth of any cells, simply speeds up the development of malignant tissue. Music: Quincas Moreira - Blues Infusion Vibe Mountain - AI 2 Dan Lebowitz - Bridges Unicorn Heads - Generations Away Vibe Mountain - Operatic 3 https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS Melanoma most often appears on the face or hands. 0:51 Big protruding dark moles are more dangerous than flat ones. 1:56 Only dangerous moles get removed. 3:19 They don’t remove moles with scalpels anymore. 3:59 If you have dark skin, you can go without sunscreen. 5:05 You don’t need sun protection if it's cloudy or rainy outside. 5:39 People born with a lot of moles and freckles don’t need to worry. 6:33 If you've damaged a mole, it needs to be removed. 7:30 If you tear off a mole, you can get cancer. 7:58 SUMMARY -Women are more likely to get melanoma on their legs and feet, while men notice it more on their back. -In its early stages, a cancerous growth looks just like your common mole: round or oval, brown or pink in color, about a quarter of an inch wide, with a smooth surface or a little dome shape to it. -A dermatologist will have no problem removing any mole if it bothers you physically or makes you self-conscious. -This might come as a surprise, but the most effective way to remove a mole nowadays is still a good ol’ scalpel. -Even people with dark skin tones should use sunscreen, wear hats, and avoid too much sun exposure on certain days. -Ultraviolet radiation can easily penetrate clouds, which means it can still damage our skin even if it’s a cloudy day or pouring down rain. -People with freckles are especially vulnerable to UV rays. As for birthmarks, most of them aren’t dangerous, but it’s still better to see a specialist to avoid risk of mutation from the sun. -If you’ve damaged a mole, clean the area with antiseptic to prevent infection, apply some topical ointment to speed up healing and see a specialist ASAP. -More often than not, an injured mole that turned out to be cancerous had already been growing as a melanoma. Watch more Client Videos videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/418228-How-to-Recognize-Breast-Cancer-Symptoms Over the course of a woman's lifetime, she may experience breast changes. While many end up being nothing to worry about, it's important to have any changes that you notice checked by a doctor -- just to be on the safe side. Here are the potential breast cancer symptoms to watch out for. Warning This video does not replace actual medical advice. Always consult your doctor with any questions or concerns. Step 1: Do a monthly self-exam Start performing a monthly self-exam as soon as your breasts are fully developed. Checking yourself regularly is important -- you need to know what your breasts feel like normally so you can recognize any changes. Examine yourself several days after your period ends, when your breasts are least likely to be swollen and tender. If you're no longer having periods, choose a day that's easy to remember, such as the first or last day of the month. Keep in mind that it's not uncommon for breasts to feel lumpy due to benign fibrocystic breast disease, cysts, scar tissue, infections, and other causes that have nothing to do with cancer. Tip For instructions on how to do a breast self-exam properly, go to "Breastcancer.org":http://www.breastcancer.org/. Step 2: Have lumps checked Know what you're feeling for: a lump that feels different from your breast's normal lumpiness, like discovering a pebble in your oatmeal. Though many lumps are benign, anything that feels new or odd should be checked by your doctor -- even if you've recently had a clean mammogram. Check for lumps in your armpits, too. Tip Cancerous lumps are more likely to be hard, painless, and unmovable. Step 3: Beware of dimpled skin Look for visible changes, like dimpled, puckered, thickened, reddened, or scaly breast skin, or a flattening or indentation on the breast. All are potential breast cancer symptoms that should be evaluated. Step 4: Note nipple changes Recognize the nipple changes that can indicate breast cancer -- pain; redness; scaliness; itching; skin thickening; the nipple turning inward; or discharge other than breast milk. Step 5: Have pain and swelling evaluated See your doctor about swelling in all or part of your breast, or breast pain. Though swelling and soreness are usually no cause for concern, these symptoms can be signs of a rare but aggressive form of the disease known as inflammatory breast cancer. Step 6: Get regular check-ups Have your doctor perform a breast examination at your yearly check-up, and begin annual mammograms at age 40. If you have a family history of the disease, tell your doctor: they may suggest that you start having mammograms at an earlier age. Knowing the signs of breast cancer -- and being proactive about knowing how to recognize them early -- is the best way to protect yourself. Did You Know? In a "Breastcancer.org":http://www.breastcancer.org/ survey of more than 2,200 women, 37 percent said they first detected their breast cancer with a self-exam.

Hi, friends. In this video, i will discuss about a chronic disease. That is Blood Cancer. Let's know about Blood Cancer. What is Blood Cancer? Blood is made up of different cell types including red blood cells for carrying oxygen, platelets to help blood clot and white blood cells that fight infections. They all originally come from stem cells, which have the potential to develop into any type of blood cell as they divide and mature. Problems in this process, known as ‘differentiation’, are at the route of all blood cancers. Different types of blood cancer depend on when and how these problems occur. Unfortunately, blood cancer affects a large number of people. Blood cancers are categorized into three groups. #1. Leukaemia. Leukaemia affects your blood cells, mainly your white blood cells and bone marrow. These cells often divide too quickly and don’t develop properly, which compromises your immune system and ability to fight infections. Many types of leukaemia are either ‘acute’ or ‘chronic’ based on how they behave. In general, acute conditions develop very quickly and need treating aggressively straight away. Chronic conditions usually progress more slowly and intensive treatment may not be needed straight away. #2. Lymphoma. Lymphoma is a type of blood cancer that affects your lymphatic system, an important part of your immune system that produces and transports white blood cells around your body. It also removes waste products from your blood. Lymphoma can develop in many parts of your body, including your lymph nodes, bone marrow, blood, spleen and other organs. #3. Myeloma. Myeloma (also referred to as multiple myeloma) is a blood cancer that affects a certain type of white blood cell called a plasma cell. These cells are made in your bone marrow and produce antibodies which help fight infection. I hope this video will provide you very basic knowledge about Blood Cancer. Human lungs are responsible for respiration. When two lungs are swelled to its full length, it makes the shape as wide as a basket ball. These lungs carry out the duty of reaching oxygen to blood separating from air. The total length of the airways running through the two lungs is 2,400 km. More amazing case is that there are at least 300,00,0000 alveoli, that means microscopic air sacks and if the sacks are flattened, that can cover the half of a tennis court. It’s a proven finding that mainly nicotine contained in tobacco smoke causes lungs cancer which damages lungs cells as it usually does. Next comes-- How much is the death toll caused by cancer? Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the world after cardiovascular diseases. As per concerned report of 2008—2012, 454 persons per 1,00,000 people are attacked by cancer, out of which, at least 171 per 1,00,000 die. Last question—how much is spent for cancer treatment? It’s a very expensive treatment process whose prime process is done through chemotherapy. According to Global trend report, global spending on cancer medication is 100 billion dollars per year. Still no prospect of surely curing the disease is yet at hand. But recently there’s been stunning news that a scientist has discovered cure for cancer from a tobacco plant. Yes! Cancer has now an answer. Mark Hulett, scientist at La Trobe University published a report. He proclaimed that Nicotinia Alata, an ornamental tobacco plant has a secret weapon in its flower; a protein that can bust human cancer cells. How it works: Mark Hulett and his research team say: It’s the magical function of a protein called Nad1. This protein is a type of defension, a molecule that targets and destroys cancer cells but leaves healthy cells unharmed. They found it in possibly the last place we could look for a cancer cure. Now they’re just waiting for its clinical form of application through the ongoing research. Preclinical trials are underway at a Melbourne biotech company. Caution: Note that not all types of tobacco, only that Nicotinia Alata—this tobacco flower’s is going to be the diamond tobacco plant. So, don’t take it otherwise and never think of smoking with pleasure until clinical drugs are developed and only alata flower is being used to as tobacco.

What Is Breast Cancer? Breast cancer starts when cells in the breast begin to grow out of control. These cells usually form a tumor that can often be seen on an x-ray or felt as a lump. The tumor is malignant (cancer) if the cells can grow into (invade) surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to distant areas of the body. Breast cancer occurs almost entirely in women, but men can get breast cancer, too. Breast cancers can start from different parts of the breast. Most breast cancers begin in the ducts that carry milk to the nipple (ductal cancers). Some start in the glands that make breast milk (lobular cancers). There are also other types of breast cancer that are less common. A small number of cancers start in other tissues in the breast. These cancers are called sarcomas and lymphomas and are not really thought of as breast cancers. Although many types of breast cancer can cause a lump in the breast, not all do. Many breast cancers are found on screening mammograms which can detect cancers at an earlier stage, often before they can be felt, and before symptoms develop. There are other symptoms of breast cancer you should watch for and report to a health care provider. It’s also important to understand that most breast lumps are benign and not cancer (malignant). Non-cancerous breast tumors are abnormal growths, but they do not spread outside of the breast and they are not life threatening. But some benign breast lumps can increase a woman's risk of getting breast cancer. Any breast lump or change needs to be checked by a health care professional to determine if it is benign or malignant (cancer) and if it might affect your future cancer risk.

Learn the basics about radioactive isotopes. The identity and chemical properties of any atom are determined by the number of protons in its nucleus. As atoms get bigger and heavier, the nuclei get bigger and heavier and the protons need a “nuclear glue” to help hold them together. Neutrons provide this glue and prevent the positive charges of protons from repelling each other, thanks to something called the strong nuclear force. Elements can exist with slightly different numbers of neutrons. We call these isotopes of an element. The number of protons in isotopes of one element will always be the same; this means that the element is unchanged and so will react chemically in exactly the same way. There is often more than one stable isotope of an element. Much of the world around us is made up of stable isotopes. However, sometimes there aren’t enough neutrons in a nucleus or there are too many for it to be stable. Nuclei will try to stabilise themselves. If there are too many protons or too many neutrons, the nucleus can spontaneously rearrange itself and throw out particles in the process. This is essentially what happens in radioactive decay. Isotopes that have unstable nuclei are known as radioactive isotopes or radioisotopes. The more unstable a nucleus, the faster it will try to rearrange itself into a more stable state. This is known as radioactive decay. Radioisotopes are often used in medicine to trace aspects of body chemistry or blood flow. Atoms of radioisotopes can act as “markers”, allowing chemists to follow how a reaction sequence occurs. Radioisotopes are also used in radiotherapy to kill malignant cancer cells. Dr Elias Jabbour, from University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, talks about the importance of identifying the different types of ALL that patients have. Thanks to improved techniques in subset identification, patient outcomes can be improved. For example, for patients with Philadelphia-positive ALL, survival increased from 1 to 3 years because we know they can be treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors added to chemotherapy.
