I had a patient come see me in my office a few days ago. He had been taking 2400 mg of ibuprofen every day for months to try to get over an ankle injury. That amount of medication might be high for most of us, but we often use these medicines to try to decrease pain and swelling after an injury. When can taking these medications actually be harmful? And what should we do instead? Since we can buy medications like ibuprofen or naproxen over the counter, we might assume that they’re completely safe. Generally athletic people don’t have problems taking them occasionally for minor injuries, but they should take some simple precautions. Please remember, while I appreciate your questions, I cannot and will not offer specific medical advice by email, online, on my show, or in the comments at the end of these posts. HOW TO TREAT SWELLING Swelling can occur as the result of an injury, pregnancy, and other medical conditions. Left untreated, swelling can become frustrating and even painful. PART1, TREATING SWELLING CAUSED BY INJURY 1)REST THE SWOLLEN AREA. Whether your body is swollen from an injury or poor circulation, it is best to allow the swollen area a bit of time to rest. If you have a swollen foot or ankle, try not to use it in a strenuous way for at least a few days, until the swelling goes down. • If you have an injured foot, consider using crutches or a cane to take the pressure off the swollen area. • If you have a swollen arm caused by an injury, use the other arm to perform tasks, or ask for help from someone else. 2)ELEVATE THE SWOLLEN BODY PART. Any time you are sitting or lying down, prop up the swollen area on pillows, above the level of your heart. This prevents blood from collecting in the swollen area and aids in circulation. • Use a sling to keep your arm elevated if necessary. • If the swelling is severe, make a point of sitting down and elevating the swollen body part for a few hours. 3)APPLY A COLD COMPACT. High temperatures will make swelling worse, so do your swelling a favor by applying a cold compact. Avoid applying ice directly to the skin, but wrap an ice pack in a towel and apply to the swollen area. Do this for 15 minutes at a time, several times a day. 4)TAKE MEDICATION. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are medications that decrease pain and swelling. The most common variants are ibuprofen (common brands include Motrin and Advil) and naproxen (Aleve). Note that acetaminophen (Tylenol) is not an NSAID and will not reduce swelling. Talk to your doctor about what the best medication for your situation may be. PART2 TREATING GENERAL SWELLING 1)PERFORM LOW-IMPACT EXERCISE. Although you do want to rest the swollen area, refraining from movement for extended periods reduces circulation and will eventually make your swelling worse. Get up and walk around occasionally during your regular work day, and include low impact exercise in your weekly routine. These may include yoga, swimming, and talking walks. • If you sit at a desk all day, try mixing it up by using a standing desk sometimes. If that's not an option, make a point of getting up to walk around the office every hour or so. • When you are sitting, change positions often and keep your feet slightly elevated whenever possible. 2)MINIMIZE YOUR SODIUM INTAKE. High levels of sodium contribute to swelling, so avoid consuming foods with lots of sodium. In addition, drink lots of water to flush the salt from your system. • To increase the cleansing property of your water, try adding cucumber and lemon slices - both natural anti-inflammatories. • Whenever possible, choose water over beverages that contain sodium. Even sweet beverages often have high levels of sodium. 3)ADJUST YOUR CLOTHING. Tight clothing above your swollen areas can further restrict blood flow, which will worsen your swelling. Avoid wearing tight clothes (especially nylon stockings or garters), and try wearing supportive swelling stockings instead. 4)TAKE MAGNESIUM SUPPLEMENTS. If you suffer from a magnesium deficiency, your swelling may be worsened as a result. Purchase magnesium supplements from a local health foods store and take 250mg daily. 5)SOAK THE AREA IN TONIC WATER. The bubbles and quinine in tonic water can help to limit your swelling. Pour cold (or lukewarm, if you can’t handle cold) tonic water into a dish and soak your swollen areas for 15-20 minutes once daily. ______________________________________________________________ cure swelling, how to cure swelling, natural methods to cure swelling, cure swelling with natural methods, baba ramdev yoga, swelling, natural methods, cure swelling feet, remove swelling feet, swelling treatment, swelling treatment in hindi, swelling treatment cold or hot, swelling treatment in homeopathy, swelling treatment in ayurveda, swelling treatment face ________________________________________________________________ Google Plus- https://plus.google.com/u/0/115796018169736708219 Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/Self-Health-Care-555606237897236/ Twitter - https://twitter.com/selfhealthcare2 Reddit- https://www.reddit.com/user/bkrashid/ Blog - https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=3204012849514247540#allposts Pinterest- https://www.pinterest.com/selfhealthcareb/self-health-care/ Intro Video music - http://topfreeintro.com/ Voice : http://www.fromtexttospeech.com/ Watch More :Sel Health Care Videos_ Subscribe - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-SozdSnKgErDMj_B0I2IVQ Article Credit :http://www.wikihow.com/Treat-Swelling - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Edema: Causes, and Symptoms Causes of Edema Things like a twisted ankle, a bee sting, or a skin infection will cause edema. In some cases, like an infection, this may be helpful. More fluid from your blood vessels puts more infection-fighting white blood cells in the swollen area. Edema can also come from other conditions or from when the balance of substances in your blood is off. For example: Low albumin. Your doctor may call this hypoalbuminemia. Albumin and other proteins in the blood act like sponges to keep fluid in your blood vessels. Low albumin may contribute to edema, but it’s not usually the only cause. Allergic reactions. Edema is a part of most allergic reactions. In response to the allergen, nearby blood vessels leak fluid into the affected area. Obstruction of flow. If drainage of fluid from a part of your body is blocked, fluid can back up. A blood clot in the deep veins of your leg can cause leg edema. A tumor blocking the flow of blood or another fluid called lymph can cause edema. Critical illness. Burns, life-threatening infections, or other critical illnesses can cause a reaction that allows fluid to leak into tissues almost everywhere. This can cause edema all over your body. Congestive heart failure . When the heart weakens and pumps blood less effectively, fluid can slowly build up, creating leg edema. If fluid builds up quickly, you can get fluid in the lungs. If your heart failure is on the right side of your heart, edema can develop in the abdomen. Liver disease. Severe liver disease, such as cirrhosis, causes you to retain fluid. Cirrhosis also leads to low levels of albumin and other proteins in your blood. Fluid leaks into the abdomen and can also cause leg edema. Kidney disease. A kidney condition called nephrotic syndrome can cause severe leg edema and sometimes whole-body edema. Pregnancy. Mild leg edema is common during pregnancy. But serious complications of pregnancy like deep vein thrombosis and preeclampsia can also cause edema. Head trauma , low blood sodium (called hyponatremia), high altitudes, brain tumors, and a block in fluid drainage in the brain (known as hydrocephalus) can cause cerebral edema. So can headaches, confusion, unconsciousness, and coma. Medications. Many medicines can cause edema, including: NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen and naproxen) Calcium channel blockers Corticosteroids (like prednisone and methylprednisolone) Pioglitazone and rosiglitazone Pramipexole Symptoms of Edema Your symptoms will depend on the amount of swelling you have and where you have it. Edema in a small area from an infection or inflammation (like a mosquito bite) may cause no symptoms. On the other hand, a large allergic reaction (such as from a bee sting) may cause edema on your entire arm that can bring pain and limit your arm's movement. Food allergies and allergic reactions to medicine may cause tongue or throat edema. This can be life-threatening if it interferes with your breathing. Leg edema can make the legs feel heavy. This can affect walking. In edema and heart disease, for example, the legs may easily weigh an extra 5 or 10 pounds each. Severe leg edema can interfere with blood flow, leading to ulcers on the skin. Pulmonary edema causes shortness of breath and sometimes low oxygen levels in the blood. Some people with pulmonary edema may have a cough. There may be an indent or a “pit” that remains for a while after you push on the skin in some types of edema. This is called pitting edema. If the tissue springs back to its normal shape, it’s called non-pitting edema. It’s a symptom that may help your doctor figure out the cause of your edema. Treatment of Edema To treat edema, you often must treat its underlying cause. For example, you might take allergy medications to treat swelling from allergies. Edema from a block in fluid drainage can sometimes be treated by getting the drainage flowing again. A blood clot in the leg is treated with blood thinners. They break down the clot and get drainage back to normal. A tumor that blocks blood or lymph can sometimes be shrunk or removed with surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation. Leg edema related to congestive heart failure or liver disease can be treated with a diuretic (sometimes called a ''water pill'') like furosemide (Lasix). When you can pee more, fluid from the legs can flow back into the blood. Limiting how much sodium you eat can also help.

Keep any swollen lip clean and manage the swelling with cold and warm compresses. If you don't know what caused the swelling, or you suspect an allergic reaction or infection, visit the doctor right away. -Clean the area. While your lip is swollen and sore, it is vulnerable to injury. Sponge it with water gently, several times a day or whenever it gets dirty. Do not pick at it or wipe it. -Apply cold on the day of the injury. Wrap ice in a towel, or use an ice pack from the freezer. Place it gently on your swollen lip. After the initial swelling is done, warmth may encourage healing. Heat water until hot, but still cool enough to touch. Dip a towel in the water, then wring out the excess. Hold it to your lips for 10 minutes. Repeat once an hour, several times a day or until swelling reverses. -Take over the counter painkillers. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are medications that decrease pain and swelling. The most common over-the-counter variants are acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and naproxen. -Stay hydrated. What is bursitis? — Bursitis is a condition that can cause pain or swelling next to a joint. Most of the time, bursitis happens around the shoulder, elbow, hip, or knee. It can also happen around other joints in the body. A “bursa” is a small fluid-filled sac that sits near a bone. It cushions and protects nearby tissues when they rub on or slide over bones. These sacs, called “bursae,” are found in many places throughout the body (figure 1 and figure 2). Bursitis happens when a bursa gets irritated and swollen. This can happen when a person: ●Moves a joint over and over again in the same way, over a short period of time ●Sits on a hard surface or stays in a position that presses on the bursa for a long time ●Has certain kinds of arthritis, such as gout or rheumatoid arthritis, that can affect their joints and bursae ●Gets hurt near a bursa ●Has an infection that spreads to a bursa What are the symptoms of bursitis? — Symptoms of bursitis can include: ●Pain or tenderness ●Swelling ●Trouble moving the joint A bursa can get infected if a person gets a cut on the skin nearby. An infected bursa can cause a fever and the area around the bursa to be: ●Red ●Swollen ●Warm ●Painful If you have any of the symptoms of an infected bursa, let your doctor or nurse know as soon as possible. Is there a test for bursitis? — Yes. Your doctor or nurse will ask about your symptoms and do an exam. If you have symptoms of an infected bursa, your doctor might use a needle to remove some fluid from the bursa. Then he or she can do lab tests on the fluid to find out what is causing the bursitis, and if you need antibiotics. He or she might also order imaging tests, such as an MRI scan or ultrasound. Imaging tests can create pictures of the inside of the body. What can I do to treat my bursitis? — To treat your bursitis, you can: ●Rest, cushion, and protect the area – Try not to irritate the area that hurts. For example, people with very painful shoulder bursitis might need to avoid lifting or carrying heavy things for a while. They might also need to wear an arm sling. People with bursitis behind the heel might need to use a thick heel pad. This can raise the heel so that it does not rub against the back of the shoe. ●Avoid positions that put pressure on the area – For example, people with bursitis in the front of the knee should avoid kneeling. ●Put ice on the area to reduce pain – Use a frozen bag of peas or a cold gel pack a few times a day for 20 minutes each time. ●Put heat on the area to reduce pain and stiffness – Do not use heat for more than 20 minutes at a time. Also, do not use anything too hot that could burn your skin. What other treatments might I have? — Your doctor or nurse might use other treatments, depending on your symptoms and where your bursitis is. Treatments can include: ●Pain-relieving medicines called “nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs” or “NSAIDs” – NSAIDs include ibuprofen (sample brand names: Advil, Motrin), and naproxen (sample brand name: Aleve). These medicines can reduce pain and prevent the bursae from getting swollen and painful. ●Steroid injections – Steroid medicines help reduce inflammation. These medicines are different from the steroids athletes use to build muscle. Doctors can inject steroids into the area of the bursitis to help reduce symptoms. ●Exercises and stretches – Your doctor or nurse might recommend that you work with a physical therapist. A physical therapist can teach you stretches and exercises to help reduce your symptoms. ●Surgery – A doctor can do surgery if other treatments do not work and you have had symptoms for a long time. People with an infected bursa might also have treatment that includes: ●Antibiotics ●Having the fluid in the bursa drained – A doctor can drain the fluid using a needle and syringe, or by doing surgery. Can bursitis be prevented? — Yes. To help reduce the chance that you get bursitis, you can: ●Use cushions or pads to avoid putting too much pressure on joints – For example, people who garden can kneel on a kneeling pad. People who sit for a long time can sit on a cushioned chair. ●Take breaks, if you are using a certain joint too much ●Stop an activity or change the way you are doing it, if you feel pain ●Exercise ●Lose weight, if you are overweight ●Use good posture

Aleve is a type of drug classified as a Non-Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drug or NSAID. Such drugs are designed to relieve pain by reducing inflammation. ………………… Do you have carpal tunnel syndrome or wrist tendonitis? HERE’S HOW TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE: https://www.carpalrx.com/how-to-tell-the-difference-between-carpa-c1i7b ………………… The FDA warns that Aleve users should not take Aleve on a chronic or long-term basis due to its dangers. Rather, Aleve is recommended for acute or intermittent pain. That's because Aleve has some side effects when taken for a long time, such as: 1. Allergic reactions like swelling, wheezing, and difficulty breathing, skin rash 2. Stomach or intestinal problems like bleeding or ulcers 3. Congestive heart failure 4. Coma Thus, Aleve should be taken for short bouts of pain only. It is not a long-term treatment for any condition. If you have carpal tunnel syndrome, you should not simply kill the pain by reducing inflammation with Aleve. Instead, you should get rid of the problem causing the inflammation to begin with: pressure on your median nerve inside your carpal tunnel. If you already have carpal tunnel syndrome you must cure the problem of tendon inflammation directly. To permanently get rid of the inflammation, just removing pressure on the median nerve (like surgery attempts) is not enough. And it's one reason carpal tunnel surgery fails so often. Myofascial release therapy alleviates the inflammation permanently because it drains fluid while also breaking the adhesions that cause the inflammation. It’s 100% effective, but you need this therapy every day for 4 weeks. A therapist can do it -- or you can use the Carpal Rx. It’s calibrated to perform this same myofascial release therapy on your wrist and forearm automatically, at home, and every day for 4 weeks. So why visit a therapist every day if you can get the same treatment at home? Cure your symptoms permanently. Visit http://www.CarpalRx.com

If you have a fever, sore back or arthritis, it’s easy to reach into your medicine cabinet and grab a couple of ibuprofen to bring some pain relief. Millions of people do it, but Dr. Melissa Walton-Shirley says you should have full knowledge of all the side effects before taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID’s). Dr. Walton-Shirley, a cardiologist at Saint Thomas Heart in Nashville, says taking NSAID’s can increase your blood pressure and increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke, especially if you use it over a long period of time or take it in high doses. These NSAID’s, which include ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, and Celebrex (just to name a few), can also cause ankle swelling, ulcers, or stomach bleeding Dr. Walton-Shirley advices if you’ve been placed on an anti-inflammatory for a sore knee or back, and now you’re feeling better, you should get off the medication immediately. Gout treatment: How to Cure Gout in 24 hours Naturally: Treating gout Treatment for gout includes pain relief to help you cope with a gout attack, as well as medication and lifestyle changes to prevent further attacks. 💘 💘 💘 Subscribe here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnoWd1jdTMld8BQg6xqG81Q?sub_confirmation=1 Pain relief for a gout attack What to do during an attack 🎁 🎁 🎁 Gout: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzz0O1TmzPsaG6DUC3WdR3hfSsibJ7nBW You should: take any medication you've been prescribed as early as possible after you notice an attack (see below) – this should start to have an effect within two or three days rest and raise the limb avoid knocking or damaging the affected joint keep the joint cool – remove surrounding clothing and apply an ice pack, such as a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel ensure you're well hydrated 🎁 🎁 🎁 Gout diet - Gout foods to avoid: 13 Great Recipes If You Have Gout: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsfJHxWzq_4&index=1&list=PLzz0O1TmzPsaG6DUC3WdR3hfSsibJ7nBW Apply the ice pack to your joint for around 20 minutes. Don't apply ice directly to your skin and don't apply it for more than 20 minutes at a time because this could damage the skin. 🎁 🎁 🎁 Gout Symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, pathology: what is gout: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4tharJRj9o&index=2&list=PLzz0O1TmzPsaG6DUC3WdR3hfSsibJ7nBW&t=2s If necessary, you can keep reapplying an ice pack to your skin during an attack, but you should wait until your skin has returned to a normal temperature first. 🎁 🎁 🎁 NSAIDs Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are usually recommended as the first treatment for gout. They work by reducing pain and inflammation during an attack. NSAIDs used to treat gout include naproxen, diclofenac and etoricoxib. If you've been prescribed NSAIDs, it's a good idea to have them with you at all times so you can use them at the first sign of a gout attack. Continue to take your medication throughout the attack and for 48 hours afterwards. Your GP may also prescribe a medication called a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), to take alongside your NSAID. This reduces the risk of the NSAID causing indigestion, stomach ulcers and bleeding from the stomach. 🎁 🎁 🎁 Colchicine If you're unable to take NSAIDs or if NSAIDs are ineffective, a medicine called colchicine can be used instead. Colchicine reduces some of the swelling and pain associated with a gout attack. It's best to have it with you at all times so you can use it at the first sign of a gout attack. Your GP will tell you how long to take it for and how often. When taken in high doses, side effects of colchicine include feeling sick, abdominal (tummy) pain and diarrhoea. Corticosteroids Corticosteroids are sometimes used to treat severe cases of gout if other treatments don't work or you're unable to take an NSAID or colchicine. A short course of steroid tablets often provides relief, but they can't be used long-term in high doses as they cause side effects, including: 🎁 🎁 🎁 Corticosteroids can also be given by injection to provide rapid pain relief. This can be either into a muscle, a vein or directly into the affected joint. Medication and lifestyle changes to prevent further attacks You can reduce your chances of having further gout attacks by taking medication and making lifestyle changes to reduce the level of uric acid in your body. 🎁 🎁 🎁 Medication Medication to reduce uric acid levels – known as urate-lowering therapy (ULT) – is usually recommended if you have recurrent attacks of gout or you have complications of gout. Most people with gout will eventually need to have ULT, so you may want to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this treatment with your doctor as soon as you've been diagnosed with gout. 🎁 🎁 🎁 They should explain that while ULT can significantly reduce your risk of having further attacks, the medication needs to be taken on a daily basis for the rest of your life and there's a small risk of side effects. If you decide to start ULT, a medicine called allopurinol is usually tried first. If this isn't suitable or doesn't work, other medications may be used instead. These medications are described below. 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 🎁 Educate yourself Learn how your lifestyle impacts your health. How To Make Parsley Tea For Painful, Swollen Feet And Legs Most people have suffered at one time or another from swollen feet or legs. According to Mayo Clinic, the medical term for swollen feet and legs is "peripheral edema" and is the result of the fluid retention in leg tissue. The underlying causes of edema range from occurrences as serious as acute kidney failure to such mundane events as sitting for prolonged periods of time. Edema can be a symptom of heart failure, a blockage in the lymph system, a blood clot in the leg, or the swelling of the membrane surrounding the heart. However, edema can also be a side effect of hormone therapy, pregnancy, and pain relievers like ibuprofen and naproxen. If you experience swelling along with symptoms like chest pain lasting more than a few minutes, difficulty breathing, dizziness, fainting, or confusion, call 9-1-1 immediately. You may be suffering from a blood clot in the lungs or a serious heart condition. You should also seek immediate medical attention if you experience leg swelling after an injury, such as from a fall or car accident. However, if you believe your edema is caused by something less serious, you can treat the condition at home with parsley tea. Healthy and Natural World explains parsley tea works because it is a diuretic, meaning it improves kidney function and helps the body flush itself of excess water and salt. To make parsley tea, chop the fresh leaves and roots of parsley. Place approximately 1/4 cup parsley in an infusion basket and either pour a cup of boiling water over the parsley or submerge the basket into a tea pot full of boiling water. Let the parsley steep for 5 to 7 minutes. Then, simply remove the basket and enjoy the tea, adding honey and lemon if you like. If you suffer from chronic swelling or know you will be in a situation that is likely to lead to edema (i.e. a long plane ride, hormone therapy), incorporate foods with a high water content into your diet, as recommended by Progressive Health. These include watermelon, grapes, tomato, and cucumber. Eating high-water content foods while reducing your salt intake by avoiding processed foods is especially effective. You may also want to try wearing compression stockings that go up to the calf in order to reduce swelling. A study by the University of Vienna suggests this method is especially useful for those who suffer from swollen legs as a result of standing or sitting at work for prolonged periods of time. For pregnant women suffering from edema, vitamin C and B complex vitamin supplements can improve lymphatic circulation and decrease water retention, respectively. Natural Health Remedies 4 U says to reduce edema not just in pregnant women, but in all people, it is important not to cross the legs, wear comfortable shoes, exercise regularly, and lie down for at least 10 minutes daily with the feet elevated above the heart. That’s a very sad place for anyone to be. I know. I’ve been seeing patients for over 40 years. My name is Dr. Gary M. Levin and I’m a retired M.D. and Surgeon in the U.S. For more than forty years, I took great pride in running my own clinic, as well as teaching and supervising resident doctors at a facility at Loma Linda Univ School of Medicine. I completely understand how incredibly scary, painful and discouraging Lupus symptoms are for millions of people just like you. I have felt the pain of so many patients and their families. You take medications that may reduce asymptomatic acute attacks but they just don’t work when it comes to fully treating your Lupus condition. Levin, M.D. Discovered a Natural EFFECTIVE Treatment for Lupus In 1998, I had a heart ailment which required surgical intervention. While recovering in cardiac rehabilitation, I had the unexpected opportunity to work with a colleague who practiced allopathic and alternative medicine. I was very impressed with what I saw. Having been trained in the sciences, I decided to dive deep into this approach, serve a two-year preceptorship and actually test natural remedies and alternative treatments for diseases. It was here that I discovered powerful breakthroughs that would have profound impacts for Lupus patients. Here was the highly effective KEY to slowing deterioration, preventing attacks, and promoting regeneration.

So you just had a tooth removed. The dentist probably rattled off a list of directions for you to follow but was talking way to fast and may have confused you with all the information thrown at you after an anxiety producing experience. I try to avoid the information overload with my patients but it's not always successful. Today's video goes into detail about what to do after having a tooth pulled so you can listen again in the comfort of your own home if you are confused. I've also posted the printed directions we give to our patients summarizing the most important things to do to promote faster healing. Apply pressure with gauze to stop the bleeding After tooth extraction, it’s important for a blood clot to form to stop the bleeding and begin the healing process. That’s why we ask you to bite on a gauze pad for 30-45 minutes after the appointment. If the bleeding or oozing still persists, place another gauze pad and bite firmly for another 30 minutes. You may have to do this several times. If you run out of gauze, you may take a tea bag of any kind and firmly bite down on it for 30 minutes. Pink or blood-tinged saliva may be seen for 2-3 days following the surgery and does not indicate a problem. Minimize swelling to minimize discomfort Swelling is the body’s normal reaction to surgery and healing. An ice pack or an unopened bag of frozen peas or corn applied to the area will keep swelling to a minimum. Apply the ice to the outside of the face, 20 minutes on and then 20 minutes off, while awake for the first 24 hours. After the first 24 hours, stop using ice and use a warm moist heat compresses to relieve swelling and aid in muscle discomfort. The swelling will begin to decrease after the third day. Pain medication Unfortunately, it is normal to experience mild to moderate pain after a tooth extraction. Try to take some pain medication before the numbness wears off. Ibuprofen (Advil) or naproxen (Aleve), are both good over the counter medications to take that will also help to minimize swelling. Dr. Kamodia recommends 600mg of ibuprofen (3 tablets) every 6 hours for the first 3 days. If that is not providing enough pain relief, alternating the ibuprofen with extra strength Tylenol (500mg) will help. How to promote faster healing After the blood clot forms, it is important not to disturb or dislodge the clot as it aids healing. Do NOT smoke, suck on straws, or rinse vigorously for one week. These activities will dislodge or dissolve the clot and retard the healing process. Limit vigorous exercise for the next 24-48 hours as this will increase blood pressure and may cause more bleeding from the extraction site. Diet Your first day will consist of soft, cool foods such as: yogurt, applesauce, mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, and ice cream. Soup is a great option as long as it is room temperature. Avoid foods like nuts, sunflower seeds, popcorn, chips etc., which may get lodged in the socket. Focus on drinking lots of fluids and eating soft, nutritious foods. Long term healing The best way to prevent infection and ensure healing is to keep your mouth clean. Clean your mouth thoroughly after each meal beginning the day after surgery by rinsing GENTLY with warm salt water. Use a soft bristle toothbrush and toothpaste every morning and night to keep your teeth and the extraction site clean. This will speed healing and help keep your mouth fresh. After a few days you should feel fine and can resume your normal activities. If you have heavy bleeding, severe pain, or swelling that is not decreasing after 3 days please call our office immediately—(607)-785-1900.

However, the FDA warns that Aleve users should not take it on a chronic (long-term) basis due to its dangers. Rather, Aleve is recommended for acute or intermittent pain. That's because Aleve has some side effects when taken for a long time, such as: 1. Moderate-to-severe allergic reactions like swelling, wheezing, and difficulty breathing, skin rash 2. Moderate-to-severe stomach or intestinal problems like bleeding or ulcers 3. Possible congestive heart failure 4. Risk of coma Therefore, Aleve should be taken for short periods of pain only. It is not a long-term treatment for any condition. That means if you have carpal tunnel syndrome, you should not simply kill the pain by reducing inflammation with Aleve. Instead, you should get rid of the problem causing the inflammation to begin with: pressure on your median nerve inside your carpal tunnel. Releasing pressure on the nerve is exactly what the CPR does quite effectively. The CPR (short for Carpal Pain Relief) widens your carpal tunnel safely and without having surgery. It widens your wrist bones because it gently puts traction on your wrist joint. This gently stretches your carpal ligament, thereby relieving pressure on your median nerve. Pain relief is almost instant. The CPR is easy to use and you can even work while you’re wearing it. It’s the simplest, safest, most cost-effective treatment for carpal tunnel. Anyone who has the tingling, pain or numbness from carpal tunnel syndrome should use the CPR immediately to get rid of their symptoms for good. http://www.CarpalPainRelief.com

Naproxen /nəˈprɒksən/ (INN; brand names: Aleve, Naprosyn and many others) usually sold as the sodium salt naproxen sodium is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the propionic acid class (which puts it in the same class as ibuprofen) and is commonly used for relief of a wide variety of pain, fever, swelling and stiffness. It is the preferred NSAID for long-term use in people with a high risk of cardiovascular (for example, heart attacks or strokes) complications, due to its relatively low risk of causing such complications. Naproxen has an intermediate risk of causing stomach ulcers as compared with ibuprofen, which is low risk, and indometacin, which is high risk. In order to reduce the risk of stomach ulceration, it is often combined with a proton-pump inhibitor (a medication that reduces the production of stomach acid) during long-term treatment, in those with pre-existing stomach ulcers, or a history of developing stomach ulcers while on NSAIDs. The main cause of pain is the inflammation, a defensive response which leads to swelling in the tissues. Over 30 million Americans use drugs, such as aspirin, naproxen, and ibuprofen, to treat muscle cramps, headaches, sport injuries and chronic conditions like back pain, neuropathy, and arthritis. However, the problem with these drugs is that they cause some serious side effects. The good news is that there are natural remedies available. They are all-natural, safe to use, and extremely effective in reducing inflammation and soothing pain. 1. WHITE WILLOW BARK AND FEVERFEW White willow bark is extremely effective in treating headaches, as it contains a compound (salicin) whose effects are very similar to the ones of aspirin. It reduces inflammation like aspirin, but it is much gentler. It is recommended to take 120-240 mg standardized salicin every 3-4 hours. Please note that children under the age of 17 should not take willow bark. Feverfew provides a long-term relief and it helps prevent headaches. It has the ability to relax blood vessels in the brain, which in turn prevents constriction, the main cause of migraines. It is recommended to take 100-200 mg on a daily basis. It may take 1 to 2 months to see the benefits. 2. BOSWELLIA Boswellia, also known as frankincense, soothes both minor and chronic pains. Its active ingredients reduce the production of inflammatory compounds which are involved in many chronic diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis. You should take 750 mg on a daily basis in three divided doses. 3. CURCUMIN Turmeric contains curcumin, an active ingredient which inhibits inflammatory properties and improves body`s ability to fight inflammation. It has been scientifically shown that curcumin soothes chronic pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis. Take 400-600 mg of curcumin three times on a daily basis. 4. GINGER Ginger contains enzymes which stop the production of inflammatory compounds. For acute pain, take 2 grams of ground dehydrated ginger on a daily basis. For chronic conditions, reduce the intake to a gram of it daily divided into three doses. 5. ARNICA Arnica has been long used for medicinal purposes, because it contains compounds which boost immunity and reduce inflammation. Topical application of arnica soothes pain and restores joint functions, just as ibuprofen does. It can be also used to treat acute injuries, including bruises, strains, sprains, and postoperative healing. For that purpose, apply arnica gel or cream 3-4 times on a daily basis. 6. DEVIL'S CLAW Devil's Claw is a native fruit of South Africa and when used as a remedy, it can help to relieve pain. Recent studies show that this fruit is very effective in reducing back pain and arthritis. Devil's Claw contains active ingredients which have powerful pain-relieving and inflammation-causing properties. It is recommended to take 400mg dried devil's claw on a daily basis for natural pain relief.
