Bio-Identical Hormone Therapy After a Hysterectomy - Karyn's Testimonial

03:30
TRANSCRIPTION: Hi my name is Karyn. I am 41 and about five years ago I had a complete hysterectomy. Since then I had a bad tumble. About six months ago I came into contact with Dr. Shel and it was the best decision that I could have made. Whenever I saw Dr. Shel for the first time I was physically and mentally exhausted. I wasn't sleeping at night. I couldn't handle the stresses of family and work. I would lose my temper very easily with my family, with my co-workers, and it just wasn't me. So, I had gone to my gynacologist to get reevaluated to see if an adjustment of my hormones needed to be to be made. I went there, I got some sort of adjustment and it just wasn't working. So, the ultimate was whenever my family found me passed out on the floor. I literally could not tell you what happened for three days. I was exhausted, my body had hit bottom. So, I have a dear friend recommend coming to see Dr. Shel. She had great success with Dr. Shel so I decided to call the office. My first conversation with them was in desperation. They could tell that it was not a good situation and I was able to see Dr. Shel the same week. My first impression of Dr. Shel was genuine and sincere. I was a mess whenever I came into her office and she spent a lot of time with me asking questions, wanting to get to know who I was and ultimately who I wanted to be. After a lot of testing of hormones and thyroid and food sensitivities we both together came up with a plan to get me back on track. She is very sincere. She takes the time to not only look at test results on paper but she listened to your symptoms and your concerns, and she goes by that. Whereas most doctors will look at the test results on paper and treat the results on the paper. That's not always true when it comes to women and their hormones. That was six months ago. Now I am resting. I having much better relationship with my family. I have a better balance. Dr. Shel had taught me that it is ok to take time for yourself. It's needed, and now I agree. So, I really thank Dr. Shel for giving me my life back. My family thanks you, my friends thank you, and you have a patient for life. Learn more at http://www.drshel.com/

Hormones are secreted by various glands and organs including your thyroid, adrenals, pituitary, ovaries, testicles and pancreas. The entire endocrine system works together to control the level of hormones circulating throughout your body, and if one or more is even slightly imbalanced it can cause widespread, major health problems. In this episode of Ancient Medicine Today, Jordan Rubin and I share foods, essential oils, herbs, spices, nutrients and supplements to help naturally balance hormones and manage menopause. Menopause Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

06:02
There are two parts to menopausal symptoms. The first is all of the estrogen -related symptoms that women are familiar with, hot flashes night sweats and vaginal dryness. But also low testosterone occurs in menopause and these symptoms include low libido, lack of energy, depression, loss of muscle mass and gaining fat. HRT in women is a very specialized area and should only be done by someone who is man, familiar with bioidentical hormones not the conventional Prempro that is taught in medical school

Your Cancer Risk: Estrogen Replacement After a Hysterectomy

23:01
*Your Cancer Risk: Estrogen Replacement After a Hysterectomy* This Friday on May 15th at 9 pm PT, we will be talking with Dr. Philip Sarrel about estrogen replacement after a hysterectomy. A new study shows that using estrogen alone may not influence breast cancer risk in the same way as the combined therapy of estrogen and synthetic progesterone. Estrogen use in women with hysterectomy is associated with a reduced risk for breast cancer and that if you stop estrogen after having hysterectomy that benefit of breast cancer reduction is lost over time. Hormone replacement therapy, or HRT, is used to relieve menopausal symptoms. A woman on hormone therapy usually takes both estrogen and synthetic progesterone, known as progestin. Women who have had a hysterectomy can take estrogen alone. Join Medical Director Dr. Jay Harness and guest Dr. Philip Sarrel as they discuss estrogen replacement after a hysterectomy this Friday, May 15th at 9 am PT/12 pm ET. It's free and very enlightening. CORTISOL Low cortisol is when one has either a stress event (including losses). This could trigger alopecia (an autoimmune condition). It could be both high and low cortisol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66ujydlh40A HIGH ESTROGEN This can also effect the hair by lowering the thyroid function. High estrogen blocks thyroid function. This could happen during the pregnancy when estrogen is spiked. However, right after the pregnancy, the estrogen drops and this can increase androgen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZDUoRjQWyw INSULIN Increase insulin can trigger the increase of androgens, which turns into DHT effecting the hair. High androgens can cause PCOD, but its high insulin that causing that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTjDi2ZO0n8 MENOPAUSE At menopause, estrogen drops, but not as low as testosterone, so the ratio makes testosterone higher; this converts to DHT, thus effecting hair. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4uojf4y72Q THYROID Having a slow thyroid can effect hair. But most thyroid issues are secondary which means it's really not a thyroid problem itself. If the gallbladder is a problem, then T4 will not convert to T3. Also if estrogen is high, the thyroid will be inhibited. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3z9pNBFnpM TESTOSTERONE If testosterone is high, it can turn into DHT thereby blocking the growth of hair. Or, the lower amounts of estrogen can make the testosterone appear to be too high. Natural Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women

31:07
http://drhedberg.com/natural-hormone-replacement-therapy-for-women/ Learn everything you need to know about Natural Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women including all of your options, symptoms, best testing methods and much, much more. Dr. Nikolas Hedberg discusses natural hormone replacement for women. Dr. Hedberg is a board-certified naturopathic physician and is board-certified in nutrition. He works with many women with hormone imbalances, thyroid problems, adrenal gland imbalances, and what we would call sex or reproductive hormone imbalances. This video also discusses hormone replacement therapy. This is a popular topic. Dr. Hedberg also discusses Adrenal imbalances, which are extremely common in our society today because we’re overworked and overstressed. If you do have low progesterone, progesterone replacement can provide some good benefits, someone may notice their mood gets better. Then these issues with estrogen, like uterine fibroids, endometriosis, fibrocystic breast, where there is usually too much estrogen, progesterone will help to balance that. Progesterone does facilitate the thyroid, so some women will notice improvements in their metabolism, their body temperature, better sleep. That’s because progesterone has an overall calming effect on the brain, on the nervous system. It helps to calm women down. That’s why a lot of women like to take it at night to sleep better, better blood sugar metabolism. It really helps with many of the menopausal symptoms, especially hot flashes. It’s a natural diuretic, so if you’re holding a lot of water, it can help there. Progesterone really helps to build bone. Estrogen helps to maintain the quality of the bone and testosterone makes sure that the bone is very rigid and very hard. So you need a healthy balance of all three of those. Then, if you’re still cycling, progesterone can help with PMS. Your body makes actually three different types of estrogen, estrone, estrodiol and estriol. This is about the actual percentages that your body makes. Premarin is primarily estrone. Estrace is 100% estradiol. Note For the Hearing Impaired: This video contains accurate Closed Captions. Beat Menopause Belly Fat by Starving Your Fat Cells (Not Yourself)

11:16
You can beat menopausal belly fat. Watch as Dr. Becky shares the foods to eat and avoid to starve your fat cells (not yourself). Click Here for Dr. Becky's Weight Loss Coaching Program http://www.drbeckyfitness.com/coaching When you reach menopause your body wants more fat because fat is a source of estrogen. You don’t want those extra pounds, so in this video I’ll show you how to keep belly fat under control by starving your fat cells, without starving yourself. Menopause changes two things: 1. It change where fat is stored on your body (i.e. more gets deposited in your midsection and less in your lower body). 2. It changes where estrogen is produced. The ovaries no longer make estrogen, but your fat cells do, so higher body fat% is not frowned upon by your post-menopausal body. Cortisol is another hormone that is not automatically thought about with menopause, but it contributes to belly fat. Think of cortisol as the stress hormone, physical or emotional stress, even a lack of sleep causes an increased release of cortisol. Bottom Line: you have to work with your body during and after menopause to get it to do what you want. The trick is to starve your fat cells without starving yourself. In this video I show you how with the right food choices and time-restricted eating. Pelvic Floor Exercises Routine For After Hysterectomy

09:33
Learn how to start your Kegels or pelvic floor exercises after hysterectomy. This gentle routine is ideal if you're seeking to safely strengthen your pelvic floor after your surgery. Pelvic floor physical therapist Michelle Kenway guides you through starting out & progressing your exercises. Scroll down for written guidelines & more information. Get your Complete Hysterectomy Recovery Exercise Pack by visiting https://www.pelvicexercises.com.au/pelvic-exercise-products/pelvic-exercise-books/hysterectomy-recovery-pack/ Physiotherapist Guide To Pelvic Floor Exercises After Hysterectomy When to Start Pelvic Floor Exercises? Most women start pelvic floor exercises around 4-6 weeks after hysterectomy but only with their surgeon's approval as this can vary from one woman to the next. Seek your surgeon's approval before recommencing your pelvic floor strengthening exercises after hysterectomy surgery. Pelvic floor exercises after hysterectomy or any pelvic surgery should be pain free during and after exercising. This video demonstrates 2 positions for returning to pelvic floor exercises after hysterectomy surgery; lying down and sitting upright. Ideally commence your exercises lying down. Pelvic Floor Exercise 1: Lying Down Position Position your body so that you are either lying down on your back with a pillow under your knees, or on your side with a pillow between your legs for comfort. Lying down eliminates the downward force of gravity making this a useful position for pelvic floor exercises after hysterectomy. Lying Down Pelvic Floor Exercise Technique Before starting out make sure you understand how to find and feel your pelvic floor muscles see https://www.pelvicexercises.com.au/where-are-pelvic-floor-muscles/ * Try to picture your pelvic floor muscles wrapping in and around your 3 pelvic openings. * Very gently squeeze and lift inside around your 3 pelvic openings. * Keep squeezing and lifting for a few seconds. * Gently relax and lower your pelvic floor muscles back to resting position. * Breathe deeply to relax your pelvic floor muscles and rest. * Repeat this exercise again for a total of 1-3 repetitions. Pelvic Floor Exercise Mistakes to Avoid After Hysterectomy Some of the common mistakes made doing pelvic floor exercises include: * Drawing in or pulling in the abdominal muscles strongly * Squeezing the buttocks or thighs * Holding the breath rather than breathing normally. Pelvic floor exercises can be performed daily and kept within the range of personal comfort - avoid overdoing your exercises especially when starting out. If you experience any discomfort during or after your pelvic floor exercises after hysterectomy stop and let your body heal before recommencing. If any pelvic floor discomfort persists have this assessed by your doctor. Sitting Upright Pelvic Floor Exercises Doing upright seated pelvic floor exercises after hysterectomy helps to encourage the pelvic floor muscles to lift upwards against the downward force of gravity. Upright exercises can be used as a progression position from lying down pelvic floor exercises. * Sit upright on a comfortable chair ideally a dining chair rather than a soft lounge chair. * Check you have the correct posture for pelvic floor exercises: your spine should be lengthened and you should have the inward curve in your lower back. * Feel your pelvic floor openings against the surface of the chair. * Squeeze and lifting in and around your 3 pelvic openings for a few seconds. * Relax your pelvic floor back to resting position and breathe into your belly. * Repeat 1-3 exercises in a row within your range of comfort. * Try to avoid the mistakes listed above when doing seated pelvic floor exercises. Progressing Your Pelvic Floor Exercises After Hysterectomy Pelvic floor muscles become stronger when challenged to work harder. This challenge needs to be applied gradually over time as your body heals after surgery. Techniques to progress pelvic floor strengthening: * Doing more exercises up to 8-12 consecutive exercises (up to 3 times daily) * Holding for longer during each exercise up to 10 seconds at a time * Contracting your pelvic floor muscles strongly * Doing your exercises standing upright * Decreasing the rest between exercises * Contracting your pelvic floor to hold up against the downward force of a cough or sneeze. HysterSister - Recovering from a hysterectomy

05:27
Yup I'm a HysterSister now! Yes, I'm baaaaaack...after a long break. If you've been wondering where I've been, I've actually been recuperating from surgery. A pretty major one actually. And as I write this, today (April 4th) marks 4 weeks post op for me. I've decided to sit down and let you know what's been going on and share a wesbsite (of course!) that I found is helping me get through it. If you haven't figured it out yet, a Hyster Sister is part of a big club of women who's had a hysterectomy. (ok guys, here's where you can check out if you're not interested in hearing about female reproductive organs getting removed!) lol, but actually on a serious note, you might want to read on because chances are you'll have a wife, girlfriend or even a daughter that might be going through it soon enough. Like many things in life, we don't discuss "everything" with each other and I suppose we shouldn't have to if we don't feel comfortable doing it. I certainly didn't...at least initially anyway. That's why I'm thankful for the internet because there's so many resources and websites available that can make you feel like you're not alone. Thank goodness for Hystersisters.com. I had sooooo many questions and concerns before my surgery and there were a couple of friends at work that shared their own stories of having a hysterectomy but they didn't really go into great detail. And after I came home from the hospital, I had even more questions, so thank goodness for Hystersisters.com. Now, I'm not saying this website should take the place of your doctor, because your doctor should always be there for you to ask ANY questions you might have, but having that e-community be part of your support system, well, it really helps. Everyone heals differently and all the effects of any type of surgery, so this website helped me tremendously when it came to understanding some of the things I went through afterwards and still am. If you or someone you know is about to or just had a hysterectomy, tell them to check this site out. I do have to admit that it is a little bit confusing at first when you get to the home page and to find what you're looking for...but take some extra time to look at the different tabs and you'll find your way around soon enough. I love how it emails you your hysterectomy checkpoints. It gives you an idea of what to expect each step along the way as you prepare and recover from surgery. I particularly appreciated the different forums too. Especially the ones that were in line with your scheduled surgery. So, instantly you have this group of women, going through the same things you are! You can ask them if they're feeling this way or that way...it really helps! I'm planning to go back to work at 6 weeks post op... though my doc is recommending 8. I've had plenty of rest, thanks to my family and I'm hoping to be close to 100% by the time I get back to work. I'll plan to still to take it easy for quite sometime as even now, it's still a little exhausting to be up and about for more than a few hours. I can only imagine after a full day's work. From what I've been told and also have read, many women don't feel like themselves again for at least 6 months to a year. Physically and emotionally. So hang in there girls! So with that, I hope you'll be patient with me as I get back on the saddle so to speak and I will also be patient with myself. Check out hystersisters.com. I know it helped me a lot and it just might help you too! Aloha from the newest Hyster Sister, Maria

How to Naturally Balance Your Hormones with Essential Oils

04:16
For more info: https://draxe.com/10-ways-balance-hormones-naturally/?utm_campaign=Youtube-May-2015&utm_medium=social&utm_source=youtube&utm_term=hormones In today’s video I’m going to talk about how essential oils can naturally balance your hormones. I will talk about specific oils that can benefit progesterone balance, estrogen balance, thyroid issues, and naturally boost low testosterone. The three main essential oils we will cover are clary sage, thyme oil, and sandalwood oil. Clary sage’s biggest benefit is that it helps balance estrogen in the body. If you have infertility or estrogen-induced cancer, clary sage helps balance your estrogen levels and hormones. Thyme oil benefits the body by producing more progesterone, which helps balance the body’s hormones. Finally, sandalwood oil helps balance testosterone levels in both men and women. A few additional essential oils that help balance the body’s hormones are rose oil, lavender oil, and chamomile oil. And for thyroid issues, one of the best essential oils to use is frankincense oil.
