Living the full time RV Life Dream: A short video showing you my gorgeous boondocking location just outside of Winnemucca, NV. where I camped for free just a mile from the interstate and had great internet so I could work as a digital nomad too!
A day of gratitude and celebrating my freedom!
NOTE: STILL LEARNING HOW TO DO THIS WHOLE SHOOTING VIDEO THING, SOME OF THE SCENERY SHOTS ARE A LITTLE ROUGH.. BUT HOPE YOU ENJOY!
Thank you for watching.
We are heading West soon and all of this free camping in BLM areas is going to be new to us. Is it safe to leave items such as solar panels out while we are away sight seeing? We have a TT and our solar panels are placed on the ground.. we really enjoy watching you on You Tube. Thanks for a great job.
I am a traveling surgical tech and my first assignment was in Winnemucca. i totally fell in love with it an spent a year there....as an east coaster i never realized just how amazing the west is. Once my son graduates nezt year I'm off on another assignment out west and this time I'm rving it!
On dec 2nd I was just pulling in to Yuma after waiting 5 years to go there. I loved it and stayed til it got too warm on feb 3. Went thru Q and on to Havisu for a month til it got too warm. Then over to Barstow and north. Now in Fallon and it's been chilly! I found your blog by accident looking for boondocking in Winnemucca. Damn girl you can write! I wish I had your talent. I can talk but can't write like that. Reading about your brakes and hunting a site made me feel right at home. Been there...
I intend to do a lot of this when I go full time; particularly over the first year or so. All the money that would have gone to pay parks and such will simple accrue in the bank towards purchase of land/property somewhere in AZ. We want to have some kind of home base but I will still largely be out in the RV as much as I can.
Relatively new subscriber and trying to catch up on your earlier videos. I've never been drawn to the desert over the mountains, but your videos make me want to go. Thanks for the time you put in to sharing with us. I want BLM land in the east 😩😩😩!
I was cold just watching you. When I think desert, I do not think snow. I'm looking forward to meeting up with everyone at the 2018 RTR. Need to find my van and get it ready. Your videos and Bob's videos have been a great source of information. Thank you.
Hey Carolyn I just wanted to say that I admire you for doing what you wanna do with your life and finding true happiness. I'm only a 26 year old guy with 2 young daughters and I struggle every single day to provide a decent life for them so when I see someone being free and truly happy it makes me feel like what am I doing? I've always wanted to travel and do the RV life and hopefully one day I will. Keep posting these videos because they're amazing in every way. I just stumbled across your channel and I'm so glad I did. Keep up the good work and we'll all be here to watch and support you along the way. Much love from Ohio!
I'm sorry. I should spell that stuff out.. Bureau of Land Management = it's mostly barren land that no one wants (most of Nevada, for example) and people can camp on it for free.. (with some limits usually, by district).
I wish i could be as Free as you Guys ... but I protect and feed Too many Folks to be missed so easily unnoticed ... I wish i could Love one person and just think of them and there well-being... to be free is.........................
Years ago, while heading on a trip from New Mexico to the Sacramento area, we diverted through Northern Nevada. The drive through the Big Smoky Valley was spectacular. I found this site that has great photos from several adventures you can take through that part of Nevada - my favorite part of the state. Enjoy! http://www.exploringnevada.com/scenic-drives/big-smoky-valley.php
I'll be out there in April of next year! Most of that land is owned actually, and is parceled and sold off... which is no biggie. Most of "us" land owners out there don't mind if you camp on our BLM land... WiNk~ I own about 100 acres out there, in the exact spot where you're at. About a half hour out from Hwy 80 ;) Reason why, is that they have future plans in building development housing, etc, because of the lithium plants, Tesla car plants, etc. It's going to be the next lining of a city soon... So enjoy it while it's still there! (I 'd seen the surveyed parceled plans... You'd be surprised what people own out in the boondocks.... ;) PS. And there's another reason why they've been surveying this BLM land out and selling it off in huge parcels... Because of OUR national debt! The government owns something like 91% of the land out here in Nevada. So this makes sense why they are and have been selling it off since Obama's been in office. And we get to keep ALL of the mineral rights of the property TOO! That just does NOT happen here in Nevada very often. They've been selling this BLM property since the 1950's actually. However, the BLM land $ells are booming today!
Questions: How far off the a main road do you go? Do you always make sure that you have a cell signal? (That might have been a safety tip as well). How can you tell if it is a place where you are allowed to stay? How much do you budget for each day? Point me to previous vlogs if that's where this was already answered.
1. it depends.. I try to go as far off the main road as i can, but since i need to work, i need a cell signal.
2. no. Some days I go completely off the grid for my sanity :-)
3. National Forest and BLM land is free and you can camp just about anywhere. there are maps and phone apps
4. I don't really need to budget. What I spend, depends on whether I'm traveling or staying put. I just put $5400 into Matilda for a new transmission, so my budget is BLOWN . lol
I will be doing videos and blogs on a lot of this stuff. So stay tuned. I hope those answers helped.
What an amazing view! Found your channel today and subscribed. Great videos and good content. I'm so jealous - would love to do what your doing. Maybe when the lil one is on her own, I can go adventuring. Please keep sharing!
I would be out there with my metal detector having a blast, and cooking a jucy tender ribeye steak on an open fire. Then I would take a shower and run around half naked looking for a little old lady to harass!...LOL "Just Kidding!"
Yep.. a little cold never hurt anyone and I love getting to really see and experience differnt places along the way. Everyone is in such a damn hurry these days!
This life is teaching me to slow down and enjoy the journey! :-)
thanks for the comment!
I am in Nevada and there is some beautiful spots here. I'm disabled and having to work on the renovation of my trailer it has been a long process but I can't wait to be on the road and possibly join this tribe. I'm loving your channel.
I would be afraid to be out there alone!! it is beautiful though but I'm thinking I would want three or four other camping people with me I understand the campground concept it's because it's more safe in a campground this scenery reminds me of the movie Casino when they killed Mickey and the desert hahaha LOL no thanks I wouldn't be out there alone
I am just curious Carolynn do you have a family, children. Just curious. Stay warm, wish you a safe drive to Quartzite. Not sure if I will make it this year, looking still looking for a safe van.
Thanks for your videos they are great.
Yes, complete rebuild plus some. $5400.. If interested, I blogged about the whole long drawn out fiasco.. http://www.carolynsrvlife.com/2016/11/22/rv-living-breakdown-transmission/
Another cautionary tale!
Great video! Winnemucca--I always think of that song when I hear that name. You know the song with the 'dry and dusty road' and the 'high and canvas-covered load'? Heh! Hank Snow did the best version of it. I bet if you type in 'Hank Snow' and 'Winnemucca' you'd find the song :)
so jealous so jealous I won't be able to do anything until middle to end of 2017 but definitely looking forward to it.
can you do a video explaining your internet so you say that you're able to work on BLM land are you able to upload videos access the internet excetera if so would love to hear how you're doing that
The middle of 2017 will be here in no time and you'll be out here enjoying the free life with the rest of us!
the next big video will be my rig tour and then I'll do one on working and internet. Lots of people asking =- so thank you!!! Thank you for watching! - C
