MESSAGE TO YOU 😊
Thanks so much for being a part of our community. Learning English is an enriching experience that brings everyone all around the world closer together. Be sure to say “Hello” and write to us in the comments. We love hearing from all of you.
THANKS FOR WATCHING!
Once a week until the date comes up. I do workshops my topic is autism. I record my voice and I video myself. I pretend I am the audience and I ask myself questions. I practice less now because I know my topic and my audience.
Awesome! Thanks so much for commenting Evelyn. Recording yourself is such a great way to practice and self-evaluate your skills. I'd do this with teaching as well and record myself in the classroom. We appreciate your sharing with us. 😃👍
Hi ! My name is anderson from haïti, i'm really like ur pronunciation because it's comprehensible, so my problem in english is the lack of understanding when a native speaker speak fast, so how can i overcome it ?
Hi Anderson. Thanks for commenting & checking out the lesson. I think many learners share the same challenge as you. A great way to understand the fast speech of native speakers is to try and get more exposure to listening. For example, watch TV shows & movies using subtitles so that you can see the words that people are saying. This will help you pick up and understand word reductions as well idioms & slang. Hope you have a great day! 😃👍
Hi I'm Zuhal. I'm from Turkey and I really like your videos. I think they are effective for improving English. Actually, I think you speak understandably for English learners. Thank you very much for your efforts. I'm happy to find you in YouTube.
Thanks for commenting Paula. That's a great question. If you're not completely comfortable looking directly at people's eyes, you could look at people's forehead instead. It still looks as though you're making eye contact. 😃👍
Thanks for commenting & checking out the lesson. That's a great question. The words "freak" and "weird" can be used as synonyms depending on context. However, they can also be different. "Freak" is mostly used to describe a person and it is a derogatory word. "Weird" can be used to describe a person or situation, so it's a bit more universal. Hope you have great day! 😃👍
Hi Ajay, thank you for sharing. I'm glad to hear that you practice before the presentation or interview. It's so important to practice: it makes our speech flow better and helps us with our confidence. I hope you found the video useful. Have a wonderful day!
Hi. Thanks so much for your comment. We used to live in the Bay Area and would drive to LA from time to time. I've never been to Bakersfield, but I remember seeing signs for it off of I-5. Hope you have a wonderful week. 😃👍
Thanks for commenting. If talking about a presentation, then I think it's best to organize ideas the same way as it's done in writing. Present an idea & support those with details. Transition to the next idea and support that one as well. Often, when helping students prepare for IELTS speaking questions, I'd have them write down the information so they could try to organize their thoughts. Then we would discuss the questions. Now, if you're talking about a free-flowing conversation, it's a bit more difficult. In that case, the best way is just to practice, practice, and practice. Hope this helps! Keep up the good work! 😃👍
Hello, Wess! Someone asked me if it is correct to say: "I am very much enjoying my trip "or : "I am enjoying my trip very much ". Is there a rule in this case? In my opinion, it sounds better on the final part: I am enjoying my trip very much. What do you say?
Hi Maria. That's a great question. Because "very" cannot be used to modify a verb, we would use "very much." Both are grammatically correct. That being said, "very much" is often placed at the end of the sentence in more colloquial speech. When placed before the verb, it really gives emphasis to the emotion. 😃👍
In Germany it's the opposite of that; they expect you to be shallow in a job interview (Bewerbungsgespräch) and deep in a social setting. That's why I'm in such an intense culture shock; that and the fact I was sick for the first 4 months I was here. I was so sick I didn't notice some really important differences, like the fact that on any double bed they own they place two twin mattresses side-by-side, which makes no sense to me. Why don't they just get TempurPedic double mattress if they're so worried about movements irritating your partner? He asked me what's TemperPedic. That was hilarious. I hate to see what they'll think of doing to control snoring. Single mattresses on a double bed won't solve it. When I lived in the United States with my husband, he made me sleep downstairs just bc I snored. He used to say he thought a freight train was passing through the bedroom.
Hi Farida. Thanks for commenting & checking out the lesson. I hope you keep following us and watching our lessons to practice & improve your English. Good video 👍 I hoped that I could be an effective speaker because I'm going to take some videos to teach foreigner Chinese. So practice is very important for me. Thanks for your tips. I will try the way of talking in the mirror. Sounds good.
Thanks so much for your comment Ivy. That's great you're going to start teaching foreigners Chinese. This is wonderful because Chinese is becoming so popular around the world. I'm glad you found the suggestions useful. Keep practicing & keep up the good work! 😊

It'd be MORE effective for TRUMP, who decided to take a JOB where Public addresses were going to be a major part of the work. I took Public Communications in college to be a Paramedic. Back when I did it I couldn't even understand why they thought we'd need whole semesters of it, but I do now. And even that wasn't as much as a god blasted PRESIDENT has to speak. He says whatever he wants, HOWever he feels and whenever he likes, and his rogue mouth almost launched nuclear warheads. That's why I signed the petition to impeach him. After seeing his mouth almost start nuclear conflict I decided not to care if Tom Steyer, the billionaire who generated the petition, had "suspicious motives" for doing it. I signed it anyway, largely bc I was married to a nuclear scientist and he told me things that not even the media appears to ever know. I assume they've never heard it bc, believe me, it's not something any rational person would forget.
I think the president of America should be required to hear something like this.
I know that practicing speaking before do what you wanna is so important especially if we have presentation. But the question for me is when I wanna take ielts test how can I train before about topic which I don't know it.... Because I prepare for ielts exam... And this makes me confused.
Thanks for commenting. You're absolutely right. When trying to prepare for the IELTS or even a job interview, you don't know exactly what someone might as you. However, you can learn about the different topics that might be discussed and familiarize yourself with the information. For example, here's the site I showed in the lesson. 😃👍
