Juan Carlos Ruiz we don't usually use narcotics (USA actually abuses them) so idk I've never bought them in my life, the thing we abuse is antibiotics (cuz they are really cheap and super easy to get) and you can get them everywhere

Such a nice videos mate, I watched trying to show my English gent what to do in Mexico city, I know you're from England as well because you accent, so I will appreciate if you can tell me some nice pubs or things to do at night in a save zone, please. To be honest, I'm Mexican, but I use to live in London, so the last time I been in CDMX was at least 5 years ago (bloody hell I just realise it). Cheers mate!!

Every time I watch one of your videos, I get all fluttery and nostalgic, because I've lived there all of my life (almost 20 years!) until this summer. I always remember little scenes with my friends or familly, exactly where you're exploring! For example, the day I got my widsom teeth removed, my dad bought me ice cream at the Liverpool food court from this video. It brings me back memories. Saludos desde Yucatán! :D

I'm Mexican, but I live next to the USA border. And your work it's also a great way to practice the hearing English. Greetings from the North, good man ;)

Nice videos and I'm a foreigner (I'm from a small town in a state near the DF but I feel like that, I've been almost a year and my town was as 'big' as one of the Delegaciones here in Mexico City) and I always like the way people from other countries feel like in the very distinct lifestyle we have here in Mexico. I'd like to get in touch with you to share my experiences with you. Do you have any Facebook or Whatsapp? I have met a lot of people from other countries (my best friend is German) and he is always saying that we have a rough life here. Same for British and Australian people. Maybe I could give you ideas for new videos, and if I'm useful for you, it'll be a pleasure.

DshockW (2 years ago)
I've noticed most Britons say "go to hospital", while you say "go to the hospital". Any particular reason?
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+DshockW No worries. Though when I go back to the UK I definitely start to speak more 'English'. I think it's the same for anyone who lives away from where they were raised and go back.
DshockW (2 years ago)
+True Mexico Aaahh, that makes sense, thanks. I figured you had picked up some North American English during your travels.
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+DshockW I am emphasising that people don't need to go to the hospital because they can go to the clinics. So I think you naturally say a/the to emphasise. I see why you mention this because you are thinking of eg 'I need to go to hospital' which Brits would say in that situation/context, which is different to the context in the video. Hope that helps.
Tomás Salinas (2 years ago)
Great job mate! Your vids are looking sharp! What app did you use for the time lapse?
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+Tomás Salinas That's cool to know! My pleasure knowing them :D
Tomás Salinas (2 years ago)
+True Mexico Awesome! Thanks for that! By the way, I showed my 10 year old daughter your vids recently and she absolutely loved them! In fact the other day she asked me if you had any new videos to watch because she wanted to see more. Thanks again for sharing the True Mexico with everyone. Cheers!
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+Tomás Salinas Cheers man, trying to improve the quality a bit, I know you have been watching True Mexico a while and appreciate the support! It's called Framelapse and I am using a Samsung Galaxy S4. I know the timelapses could be better but I am really impressed a phone camera and free up produced this.
tankgirl00x (2 years ago)
I love your videos. I really appreciate the way you present my awesome city and country. There's a lot more to Mexico than what's shown in the news. Having been away for almost 4 years, watching your videos is like eating ice cream. Every time.

+tankgirl00x I'm happy you are enjoying your Mexican ice cream! Thanks for your support.
THEBIGHORNYMAN (2 years ago)
hey my friend, you are so close in the video to the most biggest comic book store in méxico, the name it's fantastico over the felix cuevas avenue, after to come to universidad avenue in zapata's metro station, if you have a curiosity going to this store, in méxico a lot of people collects anything, incluiding expensive things, another places in city ti's the "friki" plaza, fan center plaza, over the eje central, here you may see cosplayers and a lot of anime and manga merchandise, for a last in metro hidalgo the saturdays is there a tianguis called the rock show, whit a lot of collectibles XD. I mentioned that things because is interesting for a tourist this places, mainly curiosity, greetings my friend, see'ya.
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+THEBIGHORNYMAN Thanks for that amigo. I love it when people tell me these kind of places I would never usually know about. Another viewer also recommended Friki Plaza, I will do a video there at some point.
Manuel Monge (2 years ago)
one thing, some foreigners tend to shock when they see the prize of medical checking... 35 pesos or 2 USD, in Arizona my family pay 20 USD for a regular checkig in the clinic (they sometimes prefer to go to a border city to do that).... so a checking in a private clinic in Mexico is around 100 to 150 pesos, but sometimes pharmacies doctors earn more because they have a lot of clients!, specially those pharmacies clinics in the suburbs!
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+Manuel Monge Yes you are right. I also believe even when scaled doctors in Mexico earn less than in the US. US doctors earn a LOT of money compared to other countries even when it's scaled compared to cost of living. This makes Mexico healthcare even cheaper. Mexico has top universities and known for medicine so it is definitely a good deal when foreigners come to Mexico and need treatment.

Todavia uso mi Samsung Galaxy S4 camera pero espero que pronto voy a comprar uno nuevo camera y puedo grabar videos en mejor calidad.

That sign says $3.25 for stitches. I paid $100 (which was my deductible) when I accidentally cut my finger and required stitches.
Elderp (2 years ago)
+True Mexico No, I was talking about when I cut my finger in the USA.
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+Elderp You cut your finger in Mexico and a hospital charged you that right? If so good job it was deductible.
Jonnathan ortega (2 years ago)
the slogan of Farmacias Similares is "the same but more cheap" jaja
supersuato123 (9 months ago)
True Mexico Really??? Genéricos intercambiables are a reeally big thing in Mexico, every big pharmacy sells them, Similares, Benavides, Farmacia Guadalajara, Farmacon, etc. Everyone has its own brand or genericos. They are really cheap for example Tempra (brand name for paracetamol) is like 150 pesos for a box, generic Benavides brand 30 pesos.
Ariel Cortez (1 year ago)
Jonnathan ortega pai. ?
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+Jonnathan ortega Ja, yes. I forgot to mention the video they don't sell brands, but copies that are the same formula. It's a cool idea that does not exist in UK.

+nacho501 Thanks for the nice comment. Mexico City is waiting for your return!
flor de primavera (2 years ago)
Another nice and informative video!, thank you Paul, I´ve gone to some of those clinics attached to Simi´s pharmacies aswell when I catch a cold or a simple earing pain and I like them too and the best is that medical service is fast, cheap and efficient. Lindo video Paul, hasta luego :)
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+xhonavsky A pleasure as always! Exactly... fast, cheap and efficient, better than a 3 hour wait at IMSS ;)
Jose Ambriz Belman (2 years ago)
Yeah, you're right, Actually these consult clinics are better than the IMSS, which is the medical service in Mexico, one time i had a hard fever and when i went to emergency at IMSS they put me in the line for almost 3 hours! when they attended me just gave me "paracetamol" and injected me "Suero", thats all the Fuc"#$% IMSS do when you have any problem; The next time i had fever again, i went to Similares, waited for 10-15 mins and the doctor prescribed some drugs and i felt better quickly
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+Jose Ambriz Belman Exactly! You explained exactly what I mean. You can go to a doctor and all they will do is what you said...you can just go to one of these clinics like the one in the video for that. So much better! Now if it is serious stuff...or problem continues, yes the hospital is better, but I know at least in the UK doctors' time in a proper clinic/hospital is wasted on small things.
MGMX (2 years ago)
Near the place you made the timelapse footage was my secondary school. Here in mexico elementary (primaria) is 6 years, then 3 yeras of "secundaria", 3 years of high school and there the college. BTW, i'm suggest you to go to the frikiplaza. Is in fron of the Latino tower. Is a plaza for all the geek and otaku culture (most otaku)
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+MasterGeekMX This is great stuff thanks for explaining it to me. It will help me give the video context.
MGMX (2 years ago)
+True Mexico Before you go let me give you some context. Anime introduced in Mexico many years ago back in the 60's. Animes like Remi, Candy Candy, Heidi, Astroboy and Speed Racer (here called Meteoro) was popular and my parents remember them. The back in the 80's-90's some "second rush" came. This time with other kinds of anime: Ranma 1/2, Dragon Ball Z, Sakura Card Captor, Yu-Gi-Oh!, etc. This was the shows that I liked when I was a kid. Lately some public channels tried to air thw two most popular animes now: Naruto and One Pice, but fo some reason they get oddly inserted in TV schedule: changing the air hour constantly, gettting episodes in random order, etc. Losts of people here in Mexico and Latin America loves anime. Mostly young people in the ages between 15-30. But as here the anime is hard to get, most people watch it via "pirated" DVDs or downloaded from sites. Both are ripped from original japanese DVDs and they get subtituled by fans wich have goregous japanese skills. And from a couple of months some mangas are avilable in majority of magazines locals.
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+True Mexico Update. just googled it and can see now. Thanks for a great video suggestion as always :)
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+MasterGeekMX Sounds like it can make a great video, I have heard about it but never had a proper look, I think I went in but just saw more computers etc as the plaza technologia there too right, what kind of stuff are they selling there?

Great video and really cool timelapse.
parrish6696 (2 years ago)
+True Mexico I want to recommend you the band I think was our best CAIFANES, because they mix the rock sound with our folkloric sound like prehispanic, mariachi or even cumbias, very original and they got a great sound, another is "La maldita vecindad" they made rock ska but they wrote about our way of life good and bad, Mana was from the same era but it was more like pop music thats why some rockers dislke mana, and a band you should never hear is moderatto XP we call them kindly MODER-ASCO the worst of all, wannabes, posers and only bad made covers.
True Mexico (2 years ago)
This is great stuff. I will be going on YouTube and checking them out. I know Juan Gabriel and Mana but not the other stuff. Thanks for this!
FinalViewer (2 years ago)
Well.. nothing weird in wanting to go and see Luis Miguel, he is the best mexican singer and the most famous. Going by the bands you mention, I think you might like some songs of bands like Cafe Tacvba, Motel, Playa Limbo or Alek Syntek. Mana is like the mexican Nickelback, hated by most of us but they have a lot of fans outside Mexico, check some of their songs. Also, check some songs of Juan Gabriel, he is like our Elton John, queer and flamboyant but he's one of our top 3 best lyricist of all time, in case you're wondering the other 2 are Agustin Lara and Jose Alfredo Jimenez.
True Mexico (2 years ago)
To be honest I have yet to specifically get into Mexican music. I now know a lot more salsa songs and artists but it is not like I am a big fan. Weirdly I would want to go and see Luis Miguel because he is a classic star. Feel free to recommend some cool Mexican bands! I like bands such as Coldplay, M83, the Killers, Calvin Harris..to give you an idea.
FinalViewer (2 years ago)
+True Mexico Yes, that's correct. It was in his 2013 visit. Can I ask you something? Being from England, the place where all the good music is made, what's your opinion about our music? What kind of our music do you like the most?
Juan Gomez (2 years ago)

True Mexico (2 years ago)
+Juan Gomez Gracias! In DF there are so few FARMACIAS GUADALAJARA but they do look good ;)
Sandrine Dloch (2 years ago)
Hello, I was wondering if you follow a Mexican guy named Leo who has a channel called Japanistic here in youtube; your videos are soooooo similar to his, however he lives in Japan, but you guys follow exactly the same format, it's so funny!! I definitively recommend his channel, give it a try. love your videos and your point of view about my beloved city. Keep it on, I'm your faithful follower. What is the name of the first restaurant/café that appears at the beginning?
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+Sandrine Dloch Yes it's a great place and very popular! I don't show my face but perhaps one day I will. For now I like the style without my face because the focus is on Mexico and not me :)
Sandrine Dloch (2 years ago)
Thanks for the info, I will be visiting DF in December so I will go to that place, it looks very appealing. I knew you followed Leo!! Do you ever show your face?
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+Sandrine Dloch The restaurant/café is the top floor of Liverpool on Insurgentes. It's a great place to hang out and also has a roof garden. Of course I follow Leo! I got into YouTube videos for practicing Spanish listening. I lived in Japan too so his channel is great. And the quality is amazing. Part of doing these videos is to keep improving and learning filming/editing and his channel is a benchmark for me. I only started this hobby about 5 months ago. I am still only using my Samsung S4 Galaxy phone and have yet to invest in better cameras like Leo uses, BUT making myself learn to use what is a normal phone camera in the best way possible is good practice for when I get a better camera. Thanks for your kind words!
heavytransit (2 years ago)
Man you are raising the quality of these videos a lot. I hang out a lot around that area its fun to look at it from a foreigners perspective. Also i never actually thought about the convenience of Mexico until i went to Canada, Sundays up there are quite boring nothing's open and there's not a lot to do.
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+heavytransit DF traffic is crazy. Rush hour is every hour ;)
heavytransit (2 years ago)
+True Mexico Yeah its really bizarre how much there is to do always, my only gripe is that the traffic is always bad.
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+heavytransit Cheers for that, I see making these videos as an opportunity to always learn new filming/editing techniques. I am still only using my Samsung Galaxy S4 camera phone but you can see just spending 70 pesos on that tripod means I can do some cool stuff. Eventually I will invest in a proper camera. When I leave Mexico and go back to the UK for a trip I miss the convenience here a LOT like you in Canada.
Agapey (2 years ago)
awesome time-lapse clips!
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+Agapey Thanks! I am using a Samsung Galaxy S4 and that tripod your saw in vid, plus a timelapse app. When I buy a proper camera the quality will improve.
True Mexico (2 years ago)
Ja, that's the funniest thing I've heard all day. I really wish the UK had OXXOs...yes there are places like Tesco Express but they are different to OXXOs, 711s etc.
Manuel Monge (2 years ago)
OXXO needs to buy Tesco Express !
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+Manuel Monge Ja, cuando yo estaba en inglaterra en Agosto, yo extrañaba los Oxxos tambien ;)
Manuel Monge (2 years ago)
True Mexico (2 years ago)
+Eduardo Leistenschneider Es mi placer! Asi es, la conveniencia en Mexico es algo especial.
