NEVADA RESIDENT DEFINED: NRS 483.141 - CHECK OUT (D)... PRETTY VAGUE!
NRS 483.141 "Resident" defined.
1. "Resident" includes, but is not limited to, a person:
(a) Whose legal residence is in the State of Nevada.
(b) Who engages in intrastate business and operates in such a business any motor vehicle, trailer or semitrailer, or any person maintaining such vehicles in this State, as the home state of such vehicles.
(c) Who physically resides in this State and engages in a trade, profession, occupation or accepts gainful employment in this State.
(d) Who declares that he or she is a resident of this State to obtain privileges not ordinarily extended to nonresidents of this State.
2. The term does not include a person who is an actual tourist, an out-of-state student, a foreign exchange student, a border state employee or a seasonal resident.
3. The provisions of this section do not apply to drivers of vehicles operated in this State under the provisions of NRS 482.385, 482.390, 482.395 or 706.801 to 706.861, inclusive.
(Added to NRS by 1973, 1569; A 1989, 706; 1997, 1221)
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR AN RV PARK EVERY MONTH - JUST THE ONE TIME. IT WAS USED TO ESTABLISH 'LEGAL RESIDENCE'
NO WRITTEN DRIVING TEST WAS NEEDED (FOR ME)
ONCE YOU ESTABLISH LEGAL RESIDENCY -AS I DID- YOU ARE A RESIDENT AND DON'T HAVE TO PROVE IT AGAIN.
SINCE I CAN'T USE BLM LAND AS AN ACTUAL ADDRESS, I WILL CONTINUE TO USE IT AS MY ADDRESS.
*OUR SOCIETY DOESN'T ALLOW US TO NOT HAVE STREET ADDRESS!!!! NO MATTER WHERE WE DECLARE RESIDENCY WE HAVE TO HAVE A STREET ADDRESS AND IF WE ARE NOMADIC, THAT'S PROBLEMATIC, SO WE DO THE BEST WE CAN WITH THE LAWS WE HAVE!
Hey wait a second, it's been quite a few years now and many can marry. I changes my last name. So not only women change last names. I've known several guys changing their name for their wife cause she wanted to keep that name. When I got married in Mendocino County it was very pain free to change my name. They are more welcoming in California I can def say if you do get married and they refer to it a same sex marriage (doesn't make sense, I don't here opposite sex marriage) but what do I know. I do know however that when I came home to Oklahoma to change my native tribal ID it was very interesting to say. I was the first male to change my last name with the Cherokee Nation. So that was neat. They were not sure how to change a males last name when they got married and changed their last name. I asked how do you do it any other way and they said we hit the delete button and change it. I said well simply do that on mine. They instead had to mail it to me cuz idk why. I do know that it's def much easier tho today cuz it is not something that is so new today anymore. I've been married 8yrs now. So anywho. I hope and wish everyone the best. Also when I lived in Texas it is NOT that easy to get a Driver License so be prepared. They have a rule that requires if you want a driver license and you own a car that you register your car first. Then you can get the DL. THE WAY AROUND that is to say you don't own a vehicle and you use your family or friends vechicle and believe it or not it is common that many folks do not own a car. The other thing in Texas is that you can register your car. You don't have to do a title change and many other things like other states requires. You can simply just get tags for your car so you are contributing to taxes for the roads and stuff. If you break down in Texas and register your car you get a kinda like road side assistance and that's a neat thing. If you break down the state of Texas dps will come assist you. With everything there are rules to that as with anything in this USA cuz of the rule breakers and loop hole crap that ruins a good thing for us all. I am however interested in this new real ID crap. IDK why we need to know who is real and who isn't. If you don't allow andoids or AI or whatever they are referring to them as then you won't need Real IDs and we can leave things alone. I know many will say that's not what that's for but if the old system of IDs have worked and now we have computer people then I can see why the requirements for Real IDs.
Carolyn, I wish we had seen this about two months earlier. We went through everything like you did except we did it in Clark County. (Had to do the smog test on my diesel truck). We also could not reserve a month's stay in our town because there were no vacancies for that long. We were going to have to leave the RV park in a couple days until somebody left unexpectedly and we were able to move up to long term. So we have our insurance, tags and licenses, but yearly smog tests. Wish we had gone where you did! Thanks for the videos!
Excellent source of information, Thank you! Just imagine how crowded the DMV is going to be in Nevada now lol! I'm building a Tiny, to register as an RV of course..my son lives in CO, I believe Nevada is going to be part of my traveling plans!
Please remember every state updates and enacts any changes to statutes each year. Best to bookmark their legislative website, learn the date for updates, what date they are enacted, and check back each year for any changes. Peace.
Check out the town of Elko Nevada very nice. Town to live or visit. Here is a positive thing. About living or visiting there. It is very easy to get help with food. And anything else that you need. At the local F.I.S.H. Thrift Store/Client Services. You also can use that thrift store. As a mailing address. And the another positive thing is. Go to lamoille Highway. And once you reach the summit. Which they call Lamoille highway Summit of. You will see the Ruby mountains. Of the East Humboldt range. Sprawl right out in front of you. You can hike to the Ruby Dome. Or ride an atv to. The summit of that range. Which is roughly 11,100 feet in elevation. The Ruby Mountains range is very Rocky and steep. It is considered the Swiss Alps of America. It was a great and fun experience. And in the Town of Elko there is hot springs. Stay away from the hot hole. That spring very deep and large and dangerous. Here the Google maps gps location of the hot springs. I'am talking about. https://goo.gl/maps/c4rtZD4nHBQ2 Look around by the old cabin looking building. On nearest side to the river. And you will see water running into a concrete tub. Explore around the hot springs area. And you will see water flowing. Right into the river to. You can put your hands in it. Or run pump to. To pump it to a portable small pool. Be careful about the watef. Flowing into the river. It can be very hot. She's right about Nevada. I lived in Elko, NV. For seven months. Love your video. Sorry that my comment was so long. Later peace.
Okay then I guess I have a problem because I lost my birth certificate along time ago but I guess it doesn't matter because it was from a hospital where am I supposed to get my birth certificate I was born in Fresno California.
I have now watched a few of your videos and can’t believe how many times you’ve put yourself in situations which could cause you harm. Why?
In my opinion you are very irresponsible and won’t be watching any more of your videos. Good luck to you!
I know how you feel about giving up your CA residence. I gave mine up two years ago when I moved to GA. I have been thinking when I start the nomad life, getting a NV residency. My niece and family are planning to relocate to Pahrump, NV. Owning a home in CA is no longer a dream and they are moving out of CA. My son currently lives in Las Vegas, NV. When I contemplated moving there, car insurance quotes were extremely expensive. Thanks for the valuable information. God Bless
FYI - my life as a "NONRESIDENT ALIEN ALIEN, without the United States", so as not to surrender my RIGHTS in exchange for LIBERTY (permission); this is why calming to reside "within" the corporate fiction, called Nevada who's parent company is the United States, requires the use of the fiction (person) shown on the Social Security Card. The only connection I have with Socialist Security, is that of an Agent.

Hey Carolyn, I so enjoy your videos While I doubt you see this or will respond because I know you have plenty of people to talk to. I just wanted to comment on what a "hospital birth certificate was. sometimes when parents name child while still in hospital they used to issue a birth certificate from the hospital just as a memento but it is not issued by the hospital since not issued by state they won't accept it. thanks for all you do
hi carolyn - what was that about budget surplus
my kids got a signed by the nurses and doctor's fancy birth certificate from the hospital. a month after their birth an official birth certificate came from the state. if you re-request birth certificates from the state you get the official ones too.
Carolyn, I'm wondering how you paired up Nevada against SD in your research? I have not pulled the nomad trigger yet but I have SD down as my state of residency from what I saw. I'm wondering if you could shed light on reasons for NV vs SD. Thanks!
Besides medical which I get.
You lost me on the PO box "Post Office box". Why do you need one when you're using a forwarder? Is it actually a Post Office box or is it a box at the forwarders location that just gives you a unique address?
I have everything BUT proof of marriage license/name change, so I have no idea how to get a copy of my old marriage license from 20 years back, my gosh I've been divorced over 16 years now...never thought I'd need to hang onto that!!!
I'm third generation northern Californian. Been Oregonian for 8 years and now New Mexican for 6 months. I want to be closer to the Sierra Nevada Mountains , my family and friends in California, and beautiful Oregon. I love Nevada. Thank you very much for an informative video. It answered all my questions.
Really interesting, this Brit has to become a California Resident if he wants to get a driving license there, you don't need a Social Security Number in California, so I'm considering trying to get my driving licence and take a driving test in California.
It's a lot easier learning to drive and taking a test in California than learning and taking a test in UK.
Thank you, Carolyn, for this informative video. I am not sure that I will ever be able to drive again legally. I'm working on it. Still, I am sincerely considering a move over the next year or so to Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado or Nevada. Nevada really appeals to me if I am able to resolve my transportation problems. I would love to be somewhere out in the country but close enough to a city to be able to get an occasional Uber ride my pony cart or my horse or scooter/bike/trike into town for groceries and such. I live in a beautiful place with awful transportation, as in pretty much non-existent. I would be OK with it if our legislators hadn't passed laws that made it so I have to "be seen" by my Doc to get my prescriptions filled. I also need to be closer to one or both of my daughters for those times when there is something to get done that my old bones will not let me do without help. I thought I would be in this place until I die. Now I am seriously considering having an estate sale before I die if I can get my license for even one more year, buying an RV set up for my kitties and me and moving my studio and craft library and equipment to the right piece of land in Nevada. Your informative video is a help in inspiring me to get with it and do the research needed to make the rest of my life where and how I want it to be. Thak you!
That all sounds great but can you answer one for me .. I am an American living in Canada and I have a Canadian Drivers Licence now how do I go about getting a new license for the state of Nevada because i am moving out of Canada and coming back to the states
I kinda considered the idea of finding a piece of cheap land, and planting a locking mailbox on it. Might be an idea to put an apartment box there, and sell "physical" addresses to folks who want a permanent address... and even a place to stop and rest on the way to somewhere. I'd even put up a couple camper shades and paint some rocks white. :)
Del Stanley - LOL. I’m not fond of the heat but I’m a whimp at 15 degrees. I’m only going to make SD my State of Residence with America’s Mailbox for mail and not a mailbox but a street address, car registration, car insurance, voter registration, Medicare supplemental insurance Plan G, no State Tax. Californication will lose a taxpayer. However, I will stay in the Southwest mostly Arizona as I have a 94 year old Mom in a care facility for Dementia 😢
I know I’m pretty late leaving a comment, but I just wanted to say thanks for this video! I’ve been following Bob Wells since 2007 on his website, and have been following a lot of full-timer RVers and vandweller vloggers on YouTube. You and Bob are definitely my top two. I’m hoping to become full-time very soon, trying to decide on my rig (van, Class B, or Class C). At any rate, just wanted to say thank you! Love all your videos, especially these super informative ones. Safe travels!
One of the reasons for RVs and travel trailer being able to live in, here in Nevada, is that with all the mining if they didn't turn a blind eye to it they wouldn't have workers. They don't have enough housing to go around in the rural areas. Whereas if all persons started saying they are residents this might change and make it a hardship in the future to those miners. Just a thought everyone.
🤗Congradulations and welcome to Nevada! We did the same two years ago and have never looked back. We did buy a home base(cheap manufactured home) in Lyon County. Nevada is a beautiful state that we have started to explore in our class C. Cut our driving time to our favorite places in the Sierras and beyond. Good luck and happy travels.
Not to sound negative by how can you spend time in 26 states in a year and not be on a working vacation. This is not a criticism but thru your own admission and videos, your videos are your income.all the videos are vacation videos. In this video you are admitting you do not plan on living in the park to establish being a resident. This video looks like you're teaching people how to loophole the law. You chose that town to avoid the smog check. Now you can smog everywhere you travel while the rest of have to obey the smog test laws. You put this video on you tube for everyone to view. So don't get mad if we viewers question your honesty. Anytime someone comments about a deed like this is considered a troll, a hater and that's not true.
Best video, ever!!! Thank you for sharing this. I'm a New Hampshire resident, but that must change this summer. New Hampshire makes it impossible for nomads to keep their residency, even though we are also income tax free (mostly). I'm considering all the usual states, and it looks like Florida may be the winner. Florida does not charge sales tax on vehicles owned for six months or more. That's a big deal for me, since NH has no sales tax either. Most states will charge sales tax on vehicles, if you paid less than their rate when you bought your vehicle! Something for nomads to consider, if they lived in a state with no sales tax, such as Oregon, Delaware, New Hampshire, and in sure their are others. Again, thanks for the great video!
Great Video, THANKS!!! Will be fulltiming next year, and like you a CA resident and worker now. I will be all over western US (like you I guess too!). NV is close and central in western states .... and being 55 next year if I did need a doctor NV not too hard to get to. Thanks again for the video! (and your others too, good channel!)
s lee - it wasn't an easy decision to make . I'm definitely not an absolutest in anything. . I sleep well at night knowing that my lifestyle and eating a vegan diet do a lot of good for the environment and knowing that sometimes we have to make difficult choices and pick and choose our battles accordingly.
Wow! That IS a big deal! Congratulations! Californian here as well with the same situation- Californian at heart and hard to let that go but it makes no sense as I’m rarely there yet have to drive back just for a smog check!
Thank you for this video.
Looks like more hoops than I can handle though, that’s a LOT of hoops! And paperwork!
👍Thank you for sharing the process.
For the cities, counties, states & feds...it’s all about the money...they want every person accounted for so they can “collect”...the whole system is “a business” they couldn’t can any less about us as a person. As I’ve done my research, I’ve come to understand that it’s next to impossible to “truly” exist anonymously...it seems to me that a person will have to “register” somewhere at some point for something. 😖😔
Hospitals issue birth certificates but are not considered valid state issued. State issued with a state stamp on it can be bought from your state of birth vital statistic c s office for average fee of $10.00
You can order from on line for many states. I hope this information helps. I responded with this information before finishing your video. I hope you found this data before my comments, but if not I hope it helps either way.
Thank you so much for this video!!! I am embracing the free life soon and will be choosing Nevada as my home state. You did all the homework for me! We will have to meet up sometime so I can buy you a coffee and say thank you!! (And maybe our dogs can have a play date-lol)
wow Carolyn, well done! So helpful. I live in Wa state currently but because of emission requirements here i'll probably go to Nevada instead (when I become full-time Rv) You did such a great job as always. i've been following you and like all your videos as well!
I'm not hurt at all. I learend in second grade to consider the source when insults are flung at me and as an adult I know enough about human nature to know when someone is unhappy and projecting out of insecurity. I am not hurt, really I feel sorry for you.
Carolyn, I love your videos! One safety point, for your cute dog. If the airbag ever deploys he will be seriously injured or killed if you can't switch the airbag off. If you can shut it off there is still the problem of him being injured or killed if you have to quickly apply the breaks or get rear ended. He will be thrown into the windshield or dashboard. What I have done to protect my furry kid is to put a sturdy harness on him, and buckle the seat belt and attach a short rope to the seat belt then to his harness. To make it easier for me to get him in and out of the seat I use a carabiner (used for climbing not the cheap-o kind) that I connect to his harness and to the rope that is attached to the seat belt. This is only if I can turn off the airbag.
The motorhome that I just purchased doesn't give me the option to shut off the airbag, so I took the door off his large hard plastic kennel, cut a hole in the side, to run the shoulder seat belt through so that I can lock the kennel in place. This way if the airbag deploys it won't crush him and he isn't thrown into the window. If you are interested I can send you pictures of the set up. I was on patrol for many years and it was so sad to see animals injured or killed during minor accidents. Have a save trip to Alaska!
I used to live in Nevada, I think all I have to do is get an address, then actually go into the DMV and pay the fees for my Drivers License.. I'm thinking anyway.. I have been away for 8 years.. So I don't know if I am correct or not.
Typical liberal, they turn 50 and there high minded values are out the door. Then they head for a red state fleeing taxes and laws they supported. It's you Berkley types that made Cali the cesspool it is today.
