Collagen Protein: A Good Whey Protein Powder Alternative?

354 ratings | 8128 views
Collagen is one of the most beneficial things that we can consume as human beings. This powder that is derived from the bones, joints, skin, and ligaments of animals. This little source of protein has some really big benefits for your health, and your quality of life. From helping to improve the thickness of your hair, to reducing the amount of joint pain that you have collagen protein shake can help. Hydrolyzed Collagen Amino Acids Collagen is a protein that makes up a lot of the extracellular matrix, and connective tissue in the cells of animals. (1). Collagen has a very unique profile of amino acids that lead to the health benefits that it has on the human body, of which the most significant ones that make up the collagen molecule is glycine, proline, and lysine.(2). Glycine has to be one of if not my favorite amino acids that we have discovered in mammalian bodies to date. The more that I look into this amino acid the more benefits that I tend to find that it has. It has been shown in numerous cases to -help with sleep quality (3,4,5) -help to decrease inflammation (6,7) -stimulate secretion of growth hormone (8,9,10,11) -help protect and improve function of the liver (12,13,14,15) -helps increase uptake of glucose (helping with insulin sensitivity) (16) -is used in biosynthesis of creatine (17) - helps improve metabolism and thyroid function (7,10,18,19) - and even helps with proper neuronal function (20,21) The next best amino acid that we find in collagen is proline. Proline is like that guy who comes second every year in the competition. He is better than everyone there except for the champion who doesn’t really have anyone to compete with because he blows everyone out of the water and is completely dominant. The champion amino acid in collagen is glycine, and proline is without a doubt the next best one. Proline has been shown to -increase growth performance (22) -act as an anti-inflammatory (23) -and helps with neuronal health (24,25) Finally we have lysine. Lysine is an amino acid that you really don’t hear much about. When you have two superstars like glycine and proline attached to you on to make up a molecule, it is easy to get overshadowed. Lysine as many benefits as well which include -lowering blood pressure (26) -fighting her(27) -reducing anxiety(28) -and possibly helping in insulin resistance(29) Benefits of Collagen Putting all of these amino acids together you get collagen, a powerhouse of a protein. As mentioned before collagen is one of the most abundant proteins in the body and makes up a large portion of the extracellular matrix and connective tissue. Some of the benefits that you get when you consistently consume a good collagen supplement can be very subtle at first but make a big difference over time. It has been shown that consuming collagen has a tremendous impact on on the health of joints, and can significantly reduce the amount of joint pain that you have even in osteoarthritis patients. (30, 31,33). But it doesn’t just help with medical related joint pain it has also been shown to help athletes with joint related issues as well.(32). The most significant benefit that many people love about collagen is the anti-aging effect that it has on the skin of the human body. Collagen has almost a magical way of bringing the skin back in years. Allowing it to look, and feel younger every single day. (34,35,36,37). On top of the benefits that collagen has on the human body, it can also be extremely effective in helping with weight loss. It has been shown that collagen can help to increase satiety and thus help individuals adhere to a weight loss regimen (caloric restriction). (38). With most collagen supplements having only 80 calories per serving jam packed with 20 grams of high quality protein, this powder can really be a good tool to use. Collagen has a great amino acid profile. With these amino acids having phenomenal benefits to the health of the human body on their own, when put together to form the collagen protein molecule they become an absolute superhero for your health. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK21582/ https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS744US780&q=list+of+amino+acids+in+collagen&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjYhPerm9vcAhUGrFMKHdz0DusQ1QII5gEoAA&biw=1282&bih=667 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3328957/ https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1479-8425.2007.00262.x https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK11084/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20929994 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24144057 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/622050 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7376793 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24081740 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14609312 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14581719 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22913202 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21175814 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11395604 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12450897 http://aminoacidstudies.org/glycine/

Faithful Gal (19 days ago)
what do you think of essential oils?
Christopher Walker (18 days ago)
Depends which ones because some of them are very estrogenic
innerlocus (20 days ago)
Collagen, however, is a unique type of protein. It is not complete, meaning, it does not have all 9 essential amino acids that a complete protein requires.
Christopher Walker (20 days ago)
It only lacks tryptophan which isn't always a bad thing.

Can you give us NATURAL SOURSE OF COLLAGEN, LYSINE, AMINO ACIDS and the rest. NOT FROM A STORE BOUGHT PACKAGE!!! Thanks
Seb Hazel (24 days ago)
Chris what’s the difference between buying “Master you T” as a book ($19) and as a course ($99) on the truth nutra website?
Christopher Walker (24 days ago)
One is the test shock program and one is Master your T, you can get all the benefit you need from the Master your T and the thermo diet ( thermo takes precedent when it comes to diet)
Mitchell Boring (24 days ago)
I have a question that I cannot seem to find on my own research. I am not sure when, but I remember that you said that your supplement, Redwood is now made with real vitamin C. My question is, What constitutes as real vitamin C and how is it better (If it is) than synthetic options?
Art Lego (25 days ago)
Hi Christopher, is this product made from organically raised animals?
Christopher Walker (24 days ago)
Yes it is
kieran McLaughlin (25 days ago)
Hi Chris, what’s your opinion on cocoa butter? Has high mono/low polyunsaturated fats and was wondering if it would be a good food to eat?
kieran McLaughlin (24 days ago)
Christopher Walker Brilliant, thanks Chris! Also wanted to ask if vegetable supplement capsules are safe to take? (there are organic soy free ones but I’m worried they might contain PUFAs)
Christopher Walker (24 days ago)
Definitely just make sure it is organic and doesnt contain any other kind of oils and youll be good to feast!

Crappy whey protein ??????? Why use the no 1 protein in bioavailabilty, which is whey, use instead a non digestible protein that will add 0 to your muscles or why not just take jello or gelatin for cooking from the supermarket which is the same thing if you want to keep your joints healthy
No God Nor Master (25 days ago)
Whey protein is very well researched and has the highest score in Biological value especially whey Isolate . I would like to see the research that proves that Collagen protein is superior to whey protein in biological value , better for the joints yes, but still I would go with jello.
Christopher Walker (25 days ago)
Actually collagen is going to be more bioavailable to the human body, and has a whole host of benefits that far exceed whey in terms of anabolism and overall health.

Arman Nadim (27 days ago)
Yo chris a couple years back you did a podcast with ian and ali and you said you had a couple micronutrient deficiencies ecspecially with potassium sodium etc. did you end up fixing those and if so how’d u go about it
Christopher Walker (26 days ago)
You can get a test done at resetyourself.com/testshock
Christopher Walker (26 days ago)
Yes, I got a micronutrient test every 3-6 moths to test my levels and used strategic supplementation and foods
Christopher Walker (26 days ago)
Yes I fixed them, I took those specific supplements for a few weeks in the most bioavailable form, plus I drank exclusively high-mineral content water like Gerolsteiner
Mike Oxtinks (27 days ago)
I’m in Canada and this doesn’t appear to be available here. Can you recommend a reputable brand from Canada Christopher?
Josh Lockie (26 days ago)
You didn’t try very hard, they sell it in the grocery store dude. Sobeys and superstore both have it for sure.
Christopher Walker (26 days ago)
We actually do ship to canada my friend!
pspjerry (27 days ago)
I heard whey are free-proteins and bad for you
Christopher Walker (26 days ago)
that is why I truly recommend switching to collagen which is very beneficial for your health, and is free of anti nutrients like lactose and mycotoxins
louis borselio (27 days ago)
OKAY Christopher, What proof can you refer me to that your collagen protein powder is better than anyone else's. How long do I need to be on it before I see results. Do I take it after a workout only? Do I take 3 times a day? Is it a first meal protein?, a before bed protein? And is it safe on my kidney's? And how would I make it work in conjunction with Testro X and Redwood?
Christopher Walker (26 days ago)
Take it as much as you want (in correlation to total daily protein don't go overboard) anytime throughout the day, noticeable results will be seen after the first bag for sure. Just continue doing everything else the way that you are.
J Smith (27 days ago)
What if I just eat beef and pork feet?
J Smith (26 days ago)
Thanks! Sometimes I do eat pork or beef feet. I first cook them in a pressure cooker, then I saute them with homemade BBQ sauce for example. The broth that results from the pressure cooking is gelatinous. If you put it in the fridge it hardens like jello. It is quite tasty.
Christopher Walker (26 days ago)
Not a significant source compared to this for the pro metabolic amino acids
Christopher Walker (26 days ago)
you can. You can also boil them into a broth to get all those nutrients
Marquel Revely (27 days ago)
Can I take after a workout?
Christopher Walker (26 days ago)
Oh yea
E. Kelbell (27 days ago)

Soldier957 (27 days ago)
Sounds good. But why is it so expensive?
buba ba (26 days ago)
In other words this collagen is derived from comercial farmed beef, and chicken on hormones and antibiotics..so much for the highest quality.
Christopher Walker (26 days ago)
Also, we offer an unbeatable bulk discount on this page truthnutra.com/pages/total-collagen
buba ba (27 days ago)
On the lable it says that it's derived from cows.fish, chicken, egg membrans...are those from organically raised animals?
Glyne Martin (27 days ago)
@dlayne21 _"Good things no cheap. Cheap things no good."_ - Yoda.
Christopher Walker (27 days ago)
WE make sure to use the highest quality ingredients available. We could lower the price but that would mean using less effective forms of the ingredients and thus we would be cutting our customers short.
dlayne21 (27 days ago)
What makes your collagen protein better than the Vital Proteins brand I've seen you use before, other than it being your own?
dlayne21 (27 days ago)
+Christopher Walker interesting, thank you!
Christopher Walker (27 days ago)
It has all the collagen types in it from several different sources to ensure we get the best of the best bioavailability and quality
Christopher Walker (27 days ago)
dlayne21 I formulated this one to have all the different fiber types your body needs. The vital Proteins is only type 3. Also I added hyaluronic acid for skin health. Compare the nutrition panels
Gary Nann (27 days ago)
You can mix collgen peptides with wheatgrass juice powder
sooooooooDark (27 days ago)
lystine, the aminoacid vegans have never heard of xD
Garrick Bisogno (27 days ago)
Can you still take it if you dont have herpes? 😂😂😂😂 Jk. Im approaching 40 years old and am definitely going to include this in my diet. Thanks Christopher!
greveeen (27 days ago)
Garrick Bisogno do you put it on the penis for herpes? Loled when I heard the herpes thing, like ” it helps for joint pain, bowl health, herpes, muscle building” 😂
TooToo246 (27 days ago)
I'm a Muslim, how do I make sure the collagen protein im using is kosher or halal or doesn't come from porcine sources?
Bob M (26 days ago)
Get fish collagen
greveeen (27 days ago)
TooToo246 only if it is slaughtered the correct way according to islam then it will be considered halal. Its not about being meticulous really, thats why I gave you the previous answer as I though you asked for halal. Simply eating any meat besides pork doesnt automatically make it halal.
TooToo246 (27 days ago)
+greveeen honestly I don't care about the slaughter method, I'm not that meticulous. As long as it's not porcine, I'm fine with it
Genuine_user (27 days ago)
This one is halal and kosher too: Hydrolysed Collagen Protein Peptides Powder https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06XR32F98/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_CjvOBbYRDF67T
greveeen (27 days ago)
TooToo246 no bro, if the cow isnt halal slaughtered then you cant eat it. Even if its from an animal considered halal to eat. If it was from fish collagen or gelatine then that would obviously be halal because fish arent needed to be halal slaughtered

Khaled Alselaimy (27 days ago)
*Do u no de whey?*
greveeen (27 days ago)
Khaled Alselaimy but can u show me da wey?
Tim G (27 days ago)
I quit using whey and most proteins all together. The whey was causing me to get backne and it would itch or "prick" at times. The most proteins part was due to the fact that I learned that I was pissing most of it away anyway... literally. My body responds to resistance and action for it's growth. Almost exactly how prisoners bulk up although they don't have the ideal diets found outside of jail.
Tim G (27 days ago)
+Christopher Walker Yeah dude, I found that out after tearing up my gut. The symptoms were horrible. Anyway, you know your stuff.
Christopher Walker (27 days ago)
Yes, that is also a symptom of lactose intolerance, but collagen is lactose free so there is no concern there, if anything it will help prevent the acne
Ox Kero (27 days ago)
Chris, have you ever thought of making your own clean protein blend with the idea of maintaining testosterone?
Christopher Walker (27 days ago)
This is as close as we can get to be honest
Sergio Zzz (27 days ago)
The problem with your collegen protein it has 20 servings!? For $44 a bag
TheStarbrazer101 (23 days ago)
The bag says 20 servings. I've wanted to buy his products ever since I started following him, but I won't, because the serving sizes are most always 20 and the products are expensive. If they were 30 servings, I might actually consider.
No God Nor Master (25 days ago)
Gary Even collagen is non digestible protein and even 30 servings for $44 a bag is like throwing money away. It's good for your joints but so is gelatin from the supermarket which is the same and a whole lot cheaper.
Bob M (26 days ago)
Thats $2 per serving. Reasonable
Christopher Walker (26 days ago)
This is the best collagen formula available on the market. It's highly absorbable and has all the fiber types your body needs, plus hyaluronic acid for added skin support. Compare that to Vital Proteins which is just a Type 3 fiber, and for not even much of a price difference. Also, we offer unbeatable bulk discounts (akin to getting a free bag, for the 3 bag option) - truthnutra.com/pages/total-collagen
louis borselio (27 days ago)
Considering almost all whey proteins are a ripoff and we only fool ourselves into believing it really does anything for us, maybe this collagen is worth the price if it works. I mean what good is it if you get 40 to 50 servings for only 30 dollars if doesn't do anything for you.
eric yam (27 days ago)
Collagen protein? a good way to make a quick buck?
eric yam (26 days ago)
My dad bought infowar's Caveman chicken collagen supplement lately to support Alex Jones. I have put it in smoothies and it is good so far. Collagen definitely has benefits due to high glycine content.
Christopher Walker (26 days ago)
Thanks Eric. I'm not really into making a quick buck. My intention is to make the highest quality supplement brand and to find the truth about optimal health for humans, even if that means coming under fire from people who are critical of my ideas - it takes years of constant work and reinvesting into the brand and resources I need to overcome the challenges with it
eric yam (27 days ago)
+Christopher Walker that too. I respect the hustle though.
Christopher Walker (27 days ago)
It is a really good way to optimal health and healing your body as well
Fernando Antonio (27 days ago)
Hydrolyzed collegan is advertised as being more easily digested than normal gelatin, but the process by which it is often made—sitting in a vat in chemicals or minerals to break down the proteins, has the side effect of turning proteins into peptides, which are fragments of protein. All peptides, proteins, and amino acids have stimulatory effects, and in different combinations cause different effects depending on the particular combination of amino acids. Randomly breaking proteins into peptides and amino acids has the danger of creating random peptides which often cause unwanted stimulatory effects and are a very real consequence of poorly made collagen products. I have seen so many people have migraines, bloating, and other problems from using bad collagen.

Has anyone tried Chris collagen Protein, and can therefore what has been their experience?
Bob M (26 days ago)
Very true. Ive read reviews on collagen supplements and lots of people complained about skin itching and rash.

goodmorning1221 I use Great Lakes. You can get it on amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Great-Lakes-Certified-Pasture-Raised-Grass-Fed/dp/B01A1GDC34?ref=ast_p_ep&th=1
goodmorning1221 (27 days ago)
Thanks. Are you aware of some non-hydrolyzed gelatin companies ?
Old Generation (27 days ago)
If you would ship to europe i would buy it 😂🤔
Christopher Walker (27 days ago)
Lol perfect
Old Generation (27 days ago)
Sounds awesome because im from Germany
Christopher Walker (27 days ago)
Working on it. First we have to stay in stock in the US. Then, I met some founders of a major ecommerce platform out of Germany so I will begin European manufacturing out of Amsterdam and ship everything from Germany, which should get it to the EU countries fast and inexpensively.
Will Smith (27 days ago)
